My experience getting a sports massage with Tonya was amazing. I’ve had tendonitis from running for years, and she was extremely knowledgable providing me with tips and stretches I’ve begun to work into my routine at home. Tonya is the Swiss Army Knife of trainers! I started seeing her when I needed guidance and accountability to get back into lifting after a major injury to my dominant arm. And since then, she’s been able to adjust my routine based on whatever my body throws at her-from challenging pinched nerve to pesky running injuries-and she does it skillfully and on the fly. She also helps my body prepare for athletic feats like running relay races and multi-day kayaking trips. She’s incredibly knowledgeable about the body and generously shares her expertise with her clients. I love watching her create plans for everyone’s individual needs and goals. Her massages are great, too!

Energy fitness is the perfect name for the gym-Tonya brings a ton of energy to her practice and makes sure you are optimizing yours both inside and out of the gym. And the community atmosphere she creates is full is positive energy, too!

Okay, I’m not a guy that runs around giving 5 star reviews to every business I support You have to earn it and WOW did they earn it !!! I have played sports my whole life ( hanging on with golf and pickleball these days) and my workouts consisted of looking around at what other guys were doing in the gym. I’ve been lugging around an extra 40 pounds for many years and it was taking a toll on every aspect of my life. Enter Tonya at Energy Fitness !!! She performed a thorough evaluation and created a specialized plan covering nutritional advice as well as a challenging workout regimen that has resulted in both fat and weight loss as well as increased energy, sounder sleep and I’m crushing both the golf ball and my pickleball opponents. She may not always tell you what you want to hear but it’s what you need to hear. As she says : You’ll thank me later. On top of all this, I have had several excellent massages but the one I received from her was on another level.

I was recommended to Energy fitness by a friend So I had Tonya take a look at my shoulder. She asked me questions and help me do some stretching and movement exercises to check my flexibility. I was extremely tight, She gave me a massage And did some cupping on problem areas. I must say she’s the most knowledgeable therapist I have ever had. If you’re really serious about working out and getting into good shape, Energy Fitness is the place. Tonya is an extremely knowledgeable trainer, with years of experience, and it shows.
Tonya is no nonsense, and will push you to your limits, we even have some laughs while she’s kicking your butt. But you can’t argue with the results. Just finished my first three months and I have no complaints, looking forward to my next three months.

I hobbled in on a cold December day in hopes I could get relief from bursitis in my hip. I was also overweight from medication I had been taking. Tonya was encouraging and professional in guiding me through phase 1 of a fitness plan to get me on track to walk correctly, be flexible in playing golf and jogging again. I felt so great that in the spring I was confident enough to wear a slender sleeveless dress!! I am still working the plan with Tonya and enjoy every workout! I've been seeing Tonya (and other members of her team) for almost a year and it's been the best personal training experience I've ever had. Tonya is beyond knowledgable about the body and when something hurts or doesn't feel right, we intentionally find ways to work around it or incorporate PT, massage and other treatments to heal before moving forward. Anytime I have a question about why something feels out of the norm, she has an answer and addresses it immediately. I originally joined to get myself ready for my wedding in September. In less than 2 months Tonya was able to reduce pain in my lower back and hips to a level I did not think possible! The workouts are challenging without feeling excruciating and leave me "sneaky sore" in places I didn't know existed. I started working out with Tonya in December 2022. I had a big horse show coming up in October and wanted to lose weight and be at my best. I am 65 and also have severe osteoporosis in my lower spine so I know weight lifting would help.
I accomplished my goals by August and had lost 25lbs yet gained muscle and strength! My show is over now and I am still continuing. Tonya gets it done! She doesn't play around and it amazes me how she can give you an excersise where you are working several parts at one time. I have really enjoyed my time as a client of Energy Fitness. Tonya and Jennifer know how to push and motivate you! I simply would NOT have the discipline to do this on my own. My workouts are always challenging and use the principal of "muscle confusion" to insure that my body doesn't get used to the same old thing.

My personal trainer, Debbie, is amazing. I have used personal trainers in the past but none of them has pushed me as hard or encouraged me as much as she has. Of course, my real struggle is with staying accountable for exercising on days when I don't meet with Debbie.

I do think Energy Fitness could be more effective if they addressed the needs of a wider audience of clients. I feel like most of the people I see are already in pretty good shape and just need some fine-tuning. There is a lot of emphasis on the protein shakes and vitamins which is great but I wish there were more variety and choices. For example, I cannot tolerate protein shakes so what are some other options for me?

Suggestions:

1) Consider an monthly in-service with the nutritionist(s) so the clients can meet them and see if they are interested in those services
2) Train staff on food addictions and offer more information on these and other other chronic medical conditions (i.e., diabetes, asthma).
3) Include a session (if desired) where personal trainer and client(s) can discuss what is working and what is not working for the client. Have suggestions and choices available with regards to nutrition, exercising at home, accountability issues, medical issues, etc.

Why do I work out at Energy Fitness in downtown Memphis when I could do it for free at work? I exercise a LOT harder in a shorter amount of time with the Energy Fitness trainers than I ever would do on my own and they NEVER let me get in a rut. There is always a different exercise that I'd never think of too. Most importantly, they make sure I do things correctly. I'm a bit of a klutz and used to hurt myself from time to time on my own. I've learned a lot on how to do things correctly, how to stretch, and warm up stuff so I don't injure myself. Tonya has also inspired me to start running (I never ever liked running before...even in school) and I completed my first 10k last year. The nutritional plans are also a great aid in helping improve my health. It's worth every penny!
