OMG! I have dreamed about working out at a gold's gym. My son has a membership in colorado, and I have been so jealous because where I live here in north carolina. There isn't one anywhere near me. I did my last leg day before I headed to master's u s a in las.Vegas this last weekend. Thanks for the pump and a third place win!

If you are a female looking to join a gym or switch gyms, I would pause on joining Golds until you confirm that the women’s locker room is fully functioning. Currently the air is broke, and due to the air being broke for some reason they say they can’t turn the ceiling fans on, the sauna has been broke for a couple of weeks now and usually several times a year is broken. One toilet and a hand dryer have also been broken for an extended period of time. From what I’ve heard from some of the male members, the men’s lock room is fully functioning!

This gym is reasonably good. Although it has some areas for improvement, including the temperature of the drinking water, the accuracy of the clocks, the availability of the pool, and the maintenance of the toilets, it offers a welcoming space for weightlifting, without fear of judgment or discrimination, and features a diverse range of machines and weights.

The water in pool is freezing cold. When opening a pool, it's crucial to ensure the water temperature is safe for use, as cold water can pose health risks, particularly for elderly individuals. Please, guys, fix it. We pay for it.

Once AGAIN, I get there at 2 AM and the doors will not unlock. I was told several times in the past when this happened a thunderstorm will knock their system off-line and shut down the QR to unlock the door. Apparently it does not reboot until someone actually gets there at 6 AM. I’m to the point now I’m afraid to go every time we have a little rain shower and waste a trip.

The pool has reopened! It's scrupulously clean and the staff members are friendly. Update: Just took my first water exercise class. I loved it! Things I have difficulty doing out of the pool, like lunges are much easier, and I got a lot of cardio in.

Equipment will be broke for months at a time. My wife told me that the hand dryer in the women’s bathroom has not worked at all in 2025. The general manager of this gym has a “I don’t care” attitude so it will continue to go downhill.

Only 2 stars because pricing, otherwise its a good gym. $50/month 2 year contract is really high from my experience in multiple bigger gyms I've trained. Yes, it has good machines, its clean, its not crowded (I'm assuming bc pricing). They charge $20 extra per month to bring guests and $10 per month for 24/h access (cant bring guests 24/h). Is it the best gym around my area to not drive far, yes. But the high price doesn't match the commodity for their members in my opinion. Perhaps if the guests and the 24/h was included in the $50/month, then sure, it'd easy be a 4 star.

After 17 years with SportClub, I switched to Gold’s Gym in about six weeks ago. The staff is very helpful in providing information and addressing customer concerns. The general manager truly cares about her facility and her customers. The weight machines are more robust in design and are more reliable than my old gym. The equipment and facility are very clean. The parking is ample, and the parking lot is clean. The customers are courteous and do not use the machines as lounge chairs. The attachments for the machines are well organized. The “riddle of the day” on the sandwich board at the front desk is a little feature that makes a big difference to a geezer like me. I paid a year in advance, so I am sure I will not be disappointed.

If I could give Gold’s Gym zero stars, I would. This place is the definition of a scam. We have been trying to cancel my husband's membership since August 2024—yes, you read that right, over six months ago—and they continue to charge him every two weeks with absolutely no resolution in sight.

My husband moved to Deep Fountain Inn, which is outside the 25-mile cancellation radius. He provided this information to the desk representative in person, only to later find out that the employee never bothered to update his account. Strike one.

We were assured by the front desk staff that his membership would expire on November 2nd—yet, here we are, in February, still being charged. Strike two.

We have called countless times, each time being told, "You're on the list to be canceled and reimbursed." Yet, surprise, surprise—nothing has happened. The manager even admitted over the phone that our cancellation request was submitted in August, yet now they’re claiming the contract doesn’t end until February because we haven’t paid?! How does that make any sense? So we’re forced to keep paying for months of a membership we rightfully canceled? Strike three.

At this point, it’s clear that Gold’s Gym thrives on deceit and terrible customer service. Their cancellation process is an absolute joke, designed to keep charging members long after they’ve left. If you’re considering signing up here—DON’T. Find a gym that actually respects its customers and their time.

This gym is horribly understaffed and not taken care of. We signed up because they said one of the amenities was childcare. We signed up in December and we have got to work out a total of 4 times because they can’t keep anyone in the daycare. The daycare staff is apparently way underpaid and they only get 4 hours a day. The pool just opened and the hot tub is still broken. The only reason I signed up was for the childcare. If you don’t have childcare then I can’t work out! What am I paying for? One of the personal trainers signed me and my husband up and we asked if we cancelled would we have to pay anything? She said no. Well, I call to cancel because I can’t use my membership due to no childcare and they tell me I have to pay 2 years up front. I would rather go back to the YMCA and drive the extra 10 minutes. If you are charging for the amenities have to e amenities or lower your price. This place is a rip off. Also the roof is leaking near the front desk and it looks horrible.

Don’t get a membership here. Used to be such a great gym, truly my favorite. Management changed and now it’s not worth the headache. My price has been raised 3 times in the 3 1/2 years I’ve been here. All with the promise of a pool that’s still not open, 24 hour access that only works part of the time, and a guest policy that is impossible to follow as they don’t stick to their own posted staff hours, you just have to gamble each day whether or not they are going to charge you more fees or let you in. Not worth the money anymore, and the manager is rude when you come with complaints. Canceling my membership. I hope golds can get someone better in there before it’s run into the ground because golds really is a good company. Just not this location anymore.

I used to love this gym. The price was affordable, the amenities were clean, and the options were robust. However, they have since changed ownership and I cannot justify staying or recommending any longer. Their pricing model is borderline predatory and it feels like they no longer value their customers.

For those considering a membership, just know that they now charge on a BIWEEKLY schedule so that means 2 months a year you will be charged 3x a month. Not only that but they have begun to charge ridiculous fees.

So between membership prices doubling, nonsensical additional fees, ridiculous billing schedules, and forcing new members into 1-2 year contracts in order to lock in the more “affordable” rates, I can no longer support this establishment. I hope ownership changes sooner rather than later.

I relocated from Greenville, and tried canceling the membership. What a nightmare. Things really changed when the ownership changed. Price and the fee s really got out of hand. It's not what it used to be under the former ownership. The fee is set up to be biweekly, and reading through the other recent bad reviews it seems I'm not the only one who has dealt with this problem.

Hopefully others don't share my experience. Very disappointing. I actually had to go talk with my bank to straighten this out.

Been enjoying this gym for about a year now and since ownership change it has been a wreck, really was enjoying having the kids club open up after several months of false promises (along with the pool that has yet to open due to manager not being able to keep employees) but now my daughter has gotten a fear of GABY that works mainly nightshift, she doesn’t fear anyone and is a sweetheart. I will be pursuing this with experts to make sure my daughter was not harmed. Does the new owner not care about his recent investments?? Is 7 new locations too hard to handle? Get a grip guys!

My husband and I have been searching for a gym since moving to SC. I could not believe they try to sneak in that they charge a bi weekly payment versus a monthly membership, and then have plenty of other fees they charge after being more than twice the price of other gyms in the area.

I'm glad we did not enjoy the one time we went, especially after reading how difficult they clearly make the process to cancel your membership. After reading the experiences others had I'm glad we were diduaded from doing this gym.

Few of my husband's veteran friends recommended that he try this gym, but he told us there really was a place for an older vet at this gym.

More importantly, he told our family it's the only gym he'd ever seen that charges bi-weekly instead of monthly. After looking up their high prices it's obvious their rates are more than twice that of several other gyms around.

After scrolling through these reviews I figured I'd share our experience. Seems like many folks are unhappy, disappointed, and finding a better gym to give their business.

The gym is nice, but my wife and I have had a horrible experience with their billing department. We’ve tried to cancel for the past three months, yet they keep billing our card even after we thought we were cancelled, and they kept coming up with random reasons why we continued to be billed. One of them being that there was a late fee after we thought we had cancelled and waited the 30-day period. Their billing customer service is unprofessional and difficult to communicate with, so we will never be going back. Do not sign up; it’s not worth the hassle if you ever try to leave.

Golds Gym facilities are great but think twice before you become a member as you will have to go through hell if you want to cancel your membership. Golds gym payment processing company Peak Payment won’t accept your cancellation request and will continue to bill you, then when you put a stop payment on your account they will double the balance they say you owe every week - malicious, predatory and downright dishonest I would strongly recommend that you consider joining another gym as I wouldn’t wish what I’ve gone through with Golds Gym and Peak Payment on anyone.

The facility is always clean and the classes are great. Equipment is in good condition.
Can’t give it 5 stars because new ownership has doubled the prices for membership! No longer affordable. $35 a month (previously $15 a month) in addition to the bi weekly gym fees to access the “advanced” classes and you have to sign up for the classes before in the app and often they are full weeks in advance. Loved using the gym before, hope the new owners re-consider these unaffordable rates and unreasonable policies (have to sign 1-2 year contracts).

This isn't the same Gold's Gym I joined before the COVID thing. Pool has finally been re-opened, but the Jacuzzi has not. Prices have doubled, but the amenities have not. Front desk people use to be very friendly and customer service oriented, now they are not.

I was going to rejoin my family, just so we could have use of the pool again, but I'm not going to pay that much and get into such a long contract, for a facility that isn't great. I'll keep my $25.00 a month membership from right down the road at PF. At least there I don't see guys shooting up steroids or selling enhancement drugs in the men's bathroom.

I've been going to this gym 5-7 days a week consistently for almost 3 years. I used to love it. Everyone that worked there was so friendly and welcoming. Since the new management took over this gym has been trash. This morning we brought our kids with us to the gym expecting to have child care until 12pm like what is advertised. They did put out an announcement that kids club closed at 10am but I didn't log into the app so I didn't see it until after we were at the gym with our kids. I asked if my 2 well behaved kids could sit on the bench while we did a quick workout but the worker refused to allow that. I just cancelled my membership and I'll go elsewhere especially now that I am now being charged $70 more per year and not getting any extra benefits. Maybe make sure you have employees to cover the shifts for kids club before you start charging extra money for the membership.

Overall the gym is alright. And for a while they've had free reign in the Area. But a new gym is opening down the road and they need to stay on top of everything. 1) one of the stall doors has been broken in the men's room for at least 2 months and twice I've personally seen a line for the toilets during the morning rush. Simply find a handy man and get it done. Also fix any broken tool dispensers. For the cost I cannot justify it over the newer and cheaper gym that if it were me I'd be doing the most to retain my members. Sometimes it's the.little things.

If you are looking for a good gym facility, look no further than Gold's Gym in Greer. It is a huge place where you will find all the equipment you will ever need. I am sure there are other gyms in our area that have the same equipment. But the things that separates Gold's Gym from others are the instructors and staff. They are very friendly and are willing to help and answer any questions. The front desk people always have a smile on their face when they check you in. I guess being helpful and cheerful at the same time are innate characteristics of all Greer city residents.
I especially want to mention Will Motes, John Fournier and Rick Bramos. I mentioned these three names because I happen to come in contact with them when I needed help at random times. If these three people are representative of other staff, I am sure all instructors are equally helpful.
I would highly recommend visiting Gold's Gym and find out for yourself.

Great facilities, Personal training staff is fantastic. WHEN YOU CANCEL THE ACCOUNT BECUSE YOU ARE MOVING FOR WORK THEY WILL LIE, RIP YOU OFF AND THEN REPORT YOU TO CREDITORS.

Because I was moving for work went in to the Golds and canceled my account agreeing to pay the next month because it was out of my thirty days. I asked that my membership be dropped from the amount I was paying for personal training to a standard access membership and completed my cancellation of service. I did eat the cost of 2-3 personal training sessions but that was fine. I was told "No problem" and "if there was a problem they would call me" Mind you I had no contracts all my services were pay in advance month to month. well while moving I I get a bill for well over $300 so I call into the gym, They say they have the message and will call me back. I am trying to figure out why my bill is over $300 because THERE IS NOT A SERVICE THEY OFFER THAT COSTS THAT MUCH ALSO ALL MY BILLING WAS UP TO DATE ON AUTO-DRAFT!!! so I proceed to call them again. Still told they have the message and they will be contacting me shortly. FIVE TIMES I CALLED IN AND LEFT MESSAGES! since they do not want to talk to me I canceled the auto draft payment from my credit card. Now they reported me to debt collectors.

Now you want to put me on blast for your crookedness this is going onto any review site I can find as well as your corporate and to the Better Business Bureau.

Late Edit Update - after investing this issue with the BBB the decision was sided with me. The creditors never called again and the debt cancelled. In the end it was just another crooked gym.

If this gym wasn't in such a busy area, it'd be fantastic. It's just too small for the amount of people that come during peak hours. You hardly can get a bench if you come after 5pm, squat racks are usually always taken up, and it just feels crowded. When I go during slower hours, it's always been fantastic. It's just so difficult to get through a workout if you go after 5pm. I think the other Gold's in the area closing has contributed to it being so packed.

I am not big on crowds! I'm also kind of upset that they charged me $30 after they said they wouldn't because I went one time for 15min and had anxiety about the amount of people there.

Manager here is super nice and helped me set up my account so I wouldn't be charged after I cancelled (an issue with other Gold's locations). There's a lot of space and the equipment is great quality and clean. Lots of motivated lifters and people in great shape so there's good vibes in the gym. The music could be better and there's too many tvs everywhere, that's the main downside and then a few customers are loud and annoying (seriously what's up with people playing videos on their phone without headphones in public) but generally most people here are quite friendly. It could use more power racks but there's 4 squat racks, a lot of benches and a crossfit area so you rarely have to wait too long for anything. If you're in this area I would definitely recommend this gym. Price is reasonable also.

I have a degree in exercise science, played collegiate sports, and am an avid lifter. However, the environment at Gold's in Greer is easily the worst I've ever been subjected to. It's basically a size-up competition the entire time you're there. It's probably a serviceable gym for those in the market to compete at bodybuilding. But for those looking for functional training or athletic performance, this is not the place. I cancelled and went elsewhere in the first month.

I had to leave a review because the woman that is there every morning during the week at 5 am is always so friendly and cheerful. I’m embarrassed I never got her name! Only 4 stars due to how crowded the gym gets.

Crowded. They closed the Gold's gym close to my house on South Pleasantburg here in Greenville SC and the Cherrydale location as well. So now I have to drive 22 miles one way to go to a decent facility which now has members from the other 2 closed locations and then the Gym closed the swimming pool and hot tub PERMANENTLY! I think I may just invest in another Gym. 🤔

Absolutely a scam, don't try to cancel because they won't let you. If you do try to cancel your payments through your bank, they'll go after your credit.

My husband joined, then the gym closed for corona. He never ended up going back so after a few months of charges he went in and cancelled his membership.

After you cancel, they wait a few weeks and charge you a $49 annual fee which you can’t get out of, and then they charge you one more monthly fee on the 29th day after cancellation.

BEWARE BEFORE YOU JOIN!!

I'm sure some people love it. To me, they're missing a few vital pieces of equipment. They could use an hammer strength incline press. They could use a nautilus pullover. The music stinks. The positives are that its clean and the staff is very friendly. The price is okay too. Its the best actual gym in the area, but not perfect.

I have tried other gyms that were slightly less money but came back to Golds. I'm 51 yo pudgy woman but I love the staff and the quality of the equipment. I also really love the broad mix of clients that use the gym. Every time I visit I feel like I accomplished something and I smiled or spoke to someone. I also pay for the private trainer sessions and work out with Anna Kat once a week. She is amazing. Just the perfect amount of push.

While I didn't mind the facility, but if there is ever any chance of you switching gyms, don't expect to cancel your membership with ease. We relocated from Greer SC to Florida and since there is no local gym, we tried to cancel our accounts. My wife spent way too much time trying to get ahold of the right person to get on to a website to cancel that didn't even work. She went back and forth with someone there and when we finally moved, we thought every thing was settled. Well unfortunately Gold's Gym memberships are a rash you can't get rid of. We moved and continued to see the charges a month after cancellation. More back and forth and we were assured it was corrected only to find the next month I was still being charged. They wouldn't acknowledge the conversations my wife to address both our accounts, even though they finally fixed and refunded her for the month prior, so I had to play phone/email tag with the Manager to try and get it resolved. He assured me it wouldn't happen again, but I was supposed to eat yet another month of fees (nevermind earlier this year I ate a $500 dollar personal training fee because I cancelled it after 3 months at the front desk but that never got into the system). Well it happened yet again and so I am taking the dispute up with my credit card, this review and the BBB because I shouldn't have this experience with cancelling a service in 2020.

Equipment layout is atrocious. I've lifted in strip mall gyms that haven't felt as cramped as this one and it's only compounded by the fact that it was perpetually packed. Any square foot in here that's not taken up with a machine is reserved for some form of fitness class or already in use. To make matters worse, now that the other locations in Greenville are closed (the Pleasantburg location was actually solid), I can only imagine it's going to get worse.
To top it off, Gold's Corporate is notorious for bad billing practices and giving you no way to communicate with them. Question about a vague charge on your account? Good luck getting in contact with an actual human being. Try to have it figured out through your credit card company after you're unable to reach anyone? Slapped with a charge dispute fee. Just signed up and paid your original onboarding fee? Get ready for another charge that comes along with their "annual account maintenance fee" that has nothing to actually do with the annual renewal of your membership. I've emailed this gym ([email protected]) 3 times since the closure of my original "home gym" asking about how to freeze/cancel my account (I've been working out of state due to COVID) to no avail.
There are better gyms (on all accounts) in the area I would highly recommend looking into. Your money is better spent supporting small and/or local businesses that focus on more than the best ways to turn a profit.

Golds closed my location in Greenville due to Covid and automatically transferred my membership to Greer. I requested to end my membership as the distance is too great from where I live, I received a confirmation email stating I would be refunded for unused personal training sessions and not charged. I was not refunded and today spent 40mins on the phone with my credit card company because THEY CHARGED me for Greer when I no longer have a membership and have never even been to the Greer location. The unprofessionalism of Golds is pretty sad considering how long they've been around. It's a shame. I was a member over a year and always paid on time etc. They should be ashamed for making it so hard to stop paying. I've probably sent them 7 emails before getting a response AND STILL GETTING CHARGED.
