Worked out at the MUSC as a guest while vacationing in Charleston. A $20 guest fee for a nice facility & friendly staff was well worth it.

Ever since 2020 the experience/offering have been on a decline and the membership has been on a steep increase. Basically doubling in price and have less to offer. They stopped towel service, very limited hours, paid parking, many machines in cardio room don’t repond to the touch screens. I believe it is a non profit gym so kinda surprised they increase price and cut costs so much. They fired most of the long term staff and now have students running most of it. The staff is very nice but operation, maintained and cleaning need a lot of work

This gym has the worst culture I’ve seen when it comes to wiping down equipment. Which is shocking whenever you consider that it is connected to a hospital. Some machines are poorly placed, with several facing away from mirrors, making it difficult to monitor form. By the evening, the weight plates are rarely organized, which makes it difficult to find basic plates like 10 lbs.

All of the good instructors with long years of experience and enormous integrity have been pushed out. The new management of the Wellness Center are out of touch with the needs of clientele. Very sad. .

I joined online today and when I went in for a tour, found out the pool is now drained and closed for the next 5 months. They do not provide towels either, though it says they do online. Bummer.

They just rearranged all the gym equipment in the weight room, and it’s a mess now. Whoever planned it clearly didn’t think it through. Nothing at this place ever seems to work right, and they managed to ruin the one thing that was actually good.

Nice gym but shuts down often to do basic maintained they could be doing after hours instead being unable to provide the service members pay for. Also increase the membership about once a year. Seems like something is always breaking g down such as AC, sauna, pool heater etc

Wonderful facility with many programs. However as members pay an annual parking fee which allows them to only park for two hours, it’s difficult to enjoy all services MUSC Wellness has to offer. Not a good customer experience. Not a good value in light of the monthly dues.

I bought a week pass here while I was on vacation, as it was just a short walk from where I was staying. Very friendly and helpful staff, and wonderful facility. I only came to use the weight room, which had a wide variety of equipment, some of which I never even seen before. As well, there is another larger area consisting of mostly cardio machines, a pool, courts for racquet sports, a spin room, an outdoor area including a track, and much more. It’s easy to get lost in there, there’s so much. I really enjoyed my time there, and although the week pass was a bit costly, I didn’t mind paying it for the value I took from it.

This is a really great facility. I especially love the pool and the aquatic classes and all of the Stae Fit classes. It's really too bad This place could be great, but they just don't want to do what it takes Place is NEVER fully operational Steam room, sauna, pool heat pump, showers, all broken at different times and took forever to fix so months and months of something always not working Now, no hot water, and pool heat not working no end in sight Ask when it will be fixed, get a shoulder shrug

Management is indifferent. Paid parking of little value because gates never closed; anyone can park limited spaces for free. Closed Labor Day and other holidays. Good and clean equipment but this is of no value if the place is closed and has limited hours open.

Considering it is supposed to cater to healthcare workers, who generally work 5 am to 6 pm (plus weekends and holidays), the hours are EXTREMELY poor and unaccomodating.

They are perfectly capable of having a badge-in 24-hour model. They can even lock the pool and steam room if lifeguards are an issue.

Honestly not worth it for the ridiculous asking price. There are 24-hour gyms just as well equipped within 10 minutes (for less than half the price).

Massive gymnasium floor laid out with every weight machine and free weight you could want. cardio equipment also very extensive in the next room. Less amenities due to restrictions but $20 day pass for just using the gym is not bad in my opinion because the gym is top notch. Will return if I’m ever back in town!

Went from being the top gym to one of the worst in Charleston. Their rules and hours are draconian and prohibitive. For nearly a year now all amenities that set this gym apart have been removed, towel service, locker room showers, sauna, steam room, and full sized indoor basketball court. There's no mirrors for weight lifting. But the cost is still the same. The only thing they have reopened is the pool, but you can't shower. The majority of patrons are MUSC students and faculty who would like to go to the gym during lunch break but can't without showering. It’s been nearly a year and we aren't dealing with the same situation as we were last spring. I think it’s time to let your own paying members decide if they want to use showers, towels, and the sauna. They were always optional to begin with. They've been on reopening Phase 1 for a year now and during that time have actually imposed more restrictions such as silly separate Entrance and Exit doors, and have offered no hint at when we could expect to move into further phases. I personally have moved to a different gym that offers showers and sauna. Sadly I am still paying for a membership since it comes out of tuition. There has been a decline in membership because of this. A word of advice- start talking to your patrons and see what they want, because they’re the ones paying. But that probably doesn’t matter to you since all the MUSC students pay for a membership anyways, so who cares what they want?

Every other gym in the area has the ability for its members to shower. If you do not have to wear your mask while you are at the machine working out, or swimming, or running, why can't you shower. Someone needs to re-evaluate this dumb policy.

Really enjoy the pool and pickleball amenity, but really don’t use anything else. Kevin and Martha are amazing ambassadors for the MUSC Wellness Center. One suggestion would be to have a smoothie bar for people on the go, which is a nice amenity and also adds revenue to your bottom line.

Tried to cancel my membership since the facility was shutdown at the start of the pandemic. There was no one to answer phones and no one responded to my voicemails. I tried to get a refund for the months that I've been charged, despite trying to cancel, and I'm told that I did not fill out the optional gym credit form. Apparently members were given an "option" to be reimbursed for the charges that continued while they were CLOSED. I never saw this email and when I asked about it they avoided the question. It's sad that they feel they need to take advantage of people during COVID. Wouldn't recommend this gym to anyone

I sent an email cancelling my membership due to Coronavirus. I apparently did not fill out the paperwork correctly so it was not honored though they can see from their records I have not visited a single time since that email. For a place promoting health and wellness, I was quite saddened by the Director's decision not to honor my written email to her citing 'auditing' requirements.

Will not let me cancel my gym membership even with coronavirus circumstances. I work at MUSC with COVID patients and do not feel right using a gym right now. However, because I signed 12 month contract they will not let me cancel. I am a frontline worker paying for a gym I cannot use (out of respect for others) and I feel there should be some flexibility with the contract given the PANDEMIC. I feel that this is a real disservice to the community and I will absolutely not be rejoining.

Unfortunately if you live downtown you have few options. It's the only pool (which for some reason is never cleaned). They raised prices and told no one, and then had maintenance problems all winter that left the pool area with no heat. Nice people, just really poor maintenance. Charleston needs a good YMCA. Don't try to drive there except on the weekends.

After being a member for 24 years they raised the prices to $76 with no
advance warning. I have made many friends there and the staff is wonderful. There is plenty of ways to cut cost in a business. Never mess with your guaranteed revenue stream. Mgt. made a mistake in my opinion and I'm disappointed.
I only used the gym 2-3 days a week. You guys just lost a wonderful 24 year guaranteed annuity stream. I'd love to have someone explain to me how this makes good business sense. Planet Fitness here I come for 19.95 a month.

We thought of the wellness center and all of its staff like family - it was such an amazing community and I was excited for my kids to grow up being part of it. Staff are nice but for the price tag, not really worth it if you are a self directed gym goer. There's a plethora of cardio equipment and raquetball courts, but the weight area is tucked away on the lower level and is dingy and full of rusty and broken equipment. There are nicer, cleaner gyms with equipment that is better kept for more reasonable prices all over Charleston. Additionally the hours are very limited so if you're a morning gym person and have to be to work next door at the hospital for an early morning shift , you're not going to have enough time for a hard or long workout.

I enjoy the classes at the gym however am really disappointed by the lack of evening classes. Having the latest class everyday be 6 or 6:30 pm makes it extremely hard for those with jobs to make it to the gym in time for the class. For me, and several other members and non-members I've spoken to this is the biggest downside to this otherwise good gym. Group X please please consider slating some later classes.

First rate gym. Best in CHS hands down. Nice indoor basketball court and good cardio equipment. I have a parking card and never have issues with getting a spot. Busy Saturday AM's sometimes the lots get filled, so maybe that is what people are complaining about.

My only real gripe with them is that they run kids camps out of the gym and they last all summer and every long holiday (Christmas) it is jammed up with children. I love kids I have 3 of my own. I dont love when I come to work out, play basketball and they have the whole court taken up with kids and members arent allowed in gym. The fix would be simple, look out for your members FIRST and keep kids camps off basketball courts.

Every weekend the older lady iS working she is always telling me to take my sunglasses off, or to stop playing on my phone, and checks every single time that I lock my box which is fine I understand that's her job but to only do it to me I'm getting singled out and picked on by this lady it's really irritating when she doesn't do it to anybody else but always wants to tell me something if it's her job to always do that then she needs to do it to every single person that's in that clinic instead of just only me I feel discriminated every time she's there
