My mother and I visit this gym regularly, as is it local to us. There is plenty of equipment and there is plenty of space. The YMCA has a variety of amenities such as saunas and showers in the bathroom, they host seasonal events and activities like the Pumpkin Run and have vendors come like KonaIce and a Bounce ouse for kids. There is also a splash pad in the back of the establishment that is open in the warmer seasons. They have sports teams as well for Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, and Swim.

I came here 5x/week with my two toddlers for over a year before we moved out of state.
Great facility with awesome programs, and the childcare team does a great job. I found such a great support system and found the staff and fellow gym goers friendly and always happy to offer a spot. Loved this gym!

Visited this location for the first time today being a new member to the jeep rogers location I thought I would check out the Irmo location as well. Gracie was too busy having a conversation to stop and greet me but made time to say” nation wide” no hello, welcome in nothing. Y’all may want to revisit customer service training with her. Otherwise the gym was nice and the equipment was also in great condition. That interaction just rubbed me really wrong. I will just stick to my home ymca where I feel my member ship is valued and I’m treated with courtesy and respect.

Took My Littles to watch their cousin's basketball 🏀 game. It was great (We won 😉). Will definitely be returning.... also to find out if a membership is required to enjoy their beautiful facility. Pool, basketball court, inside track, weights, small playground for the kids..... It's definitely worth looking into!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I used to love this location and enjoyed my daughter playing volleyball . That is until this season when my older daughter volunteered and did t ball and soccer for 3-5 year olds . She was asked to coach 14-17 year old volleyball and her sister was added on to this team most of the girls are so sweet . The group has gotten along very well . Sadly the parents have free rein to treat the coaches however they want and I guess whoever bullies the most wins the prize at the end . With two games to go my daughter was sent a dismissal letter from volunteering stating that she had hung out with minors without their parents permission . So that was against the y rules so she was let go immediately. No one spoke to her . The letter was very offensive and not true . She even lost her job coaching the 3-5 year olds . She had gone to dinner with these girls 2 times with the permission of the parents and her sister . The letter seemed to imply something I didn’t like . Ironically both she and. I were bullied by the rude lady on Monday but by Wednesday I guess the bully one and so something was made up about my daughter and she was dismissed . Several parents came to her defense . Did that help ? No . I as a parent of a child in the group was told that i wasn’t allowed to talk to the parents . Then another message went that said the parents weren’t allowed to talk to each other . So parents are saying nice things about my daughter and the sports director is trying to stop that ? Why would you do that . Once he realized his letter wouldn’t work he said that she had commited multiple violations and told a parent who liked her that she had admitted to breaking multiple violations. Wow but yet you could tell me what the violations were . I know you let the bully moms win on this one . You asked my daughter to help even though she was out of her league and all you have to say is well she could have said no . You were desperate . She was doing the best she could . I’m waiting on my copy so I can see all the things she did wrong . You should have sat down and had a conversation with her . She was a volunteer . Thank God she passed on the chance to apply to work for you all . I can see now why you are so desperate for volunteers and I’m expecting a retraction of the offensive letter you wrote about my daughter . Maybe I should have been a big bully and harassed people to get my way then things would be fine . I have never seen anything so awful and my youngest doesn’t want to come back . I can’t even believe you would suggest that . I will be waiting for a retraction for the letter you wrote but remember you just tossed her in there alone with a team who had no coach so I’m glad that with 2 games to go you made a stand to a 20 year old girl . My advice .. do not ever have your kids volunteer there because no one has theirs back . Thumbs down so many people were so kind but let’s just fire the volunteer and not ask questions and not know the policies either . Disappointed in the Y I give it 2 thumbs down

Extremely disappointed with the communication and customer service. I signed up for an adult volleyball league but never received any info because the email on file was incorrect. I reached out via email the same week the games were starting—no response. I followed up with a voicemail weeks later—still nothing. It wasn’t until I posted on Facebook that someone finally got back to my initial email (proving it was delivered), by which point the league was already halfway over. I asked for a refund, and now it’s been over six weeks and I’m still waiting. Very frustrating experience all around.

Beware the fine print and indifferent staff!

Wanted to bring a guest to swim, they said it was fine then on the day the said guests weren't allowed in the pool.

Pool was completely empty (and open) the whole time we were there but I couldn't have my friend swimming with me, what a stupid rule!

Also they will steal an entire month from you if you cancel after the 25th, with zero exceptions. Of course they didn't tell us that or even bother to answer my email.

They were literally closed for Christmas that day and closed at 1pm the day before, and they require you to come in person to cancel

$55 down the drain for a place with a pool that is always reserved and an extremely indifferent staff. Pass.

Good exercise equipment and large facility, but the childcare area is in desperate need of an upgrade and a cleaning.

It just felt sad. When I got there, there were 6 kids and all of them were just..standing around. No one playing with toys. No smiles. One of the babies was left in the carseat. It was depressing.

The whole environment is really anti-kid with the cafeteria tiles and florescent lights. It needs a deep clean, some rugs, a paint job, and some friendly wall art.

Would not leave my kids here and will not be coming back to this Y.

Do not sign up any 4 or 5 year olds for their swimming lessons or summer camp. The summer camp has teenagers as their counselors and they are not trained to deal with them appropriately and you will not get your deposit back. The swimming lessons is unorganized and I had registered my 4 year old to take the swimming lessons while he was at camp , but apparently they just want to take your money and not help your child get acclimated to the water. Since my children were not apart of the summer camp anymore, they kept my money for the swimming lessons as well.

It's a nice facility and I enjoy working out there with my wife in the evenings. The biggest complaint I would have is that younger kids and younger adults that will set on the workout machines and almost commandeer the machine while they're playing on their phones not using the equipment. It's becoming a bigger problem.

Signed up for infant swim class indoors. 60 bucks. When my son and I got there today, it wasn't organized at all. Didn't know what was going on, then when we did get into the water it was absolutely freezing. An indoor pool you would think would be semi warm. I'm amazed anyone stayed and put their infants through that. My child was shivering and crying as soon as he went in, and I felt the same way. Waste of money, couldn't even do the class. Not putting my child in ice water.

The best Y in the area. Great family/child programs, clean, helpful and cheerful staff. I use primarily for the pool, and it can be difficult to get a lane depending on the timing, but people are generally courteous and lane sharing is common. This Y is a great community feature that I recommend to family and friends.

$81/month for a family is an absolute joke! I don’t think people have any context of price vs value, or quality of resources.

Just for context the St. Cloud YMCA is bigger, newer, cleaner, staff is way way way friendlier. Fitness equipment, including cardio, weight training is newer, there’s more of it, there’s plenty of space, with plenty of space. Pool and pool area are way way cleaner nicer and warmer. Saunas and steam rooms are cleaner and nicer, well maintained, and don’t smell like sewage and mold. Kids play area is cleaner nicer bigger with newer equipment and staff is better and nicer. The cost for a family, $59.99!

The YMCA of SC should be ashamed of itself for the condition of this facility vs it’s pricing structure. People need to demand better!

Went on Sunday night, 10/22, to play PB with a group. 1st time check-in was way too long/slow (10 mins). No monthly or yearly PB pricing; only available PB singular option is $5/day.

Similar to 7 Oaks Rec Center (Irmo) or Crooked Creek gym (Chapin), but at least they have a yearly option of $40. I do understand that membership to any YMCA IS acknowledged by this YMCA.

The courts are nice. Bring your own equipment, balls, towels, sunscreen and glasses, no paddles or balls provided.

Typical outdoor play. Courts are new and very clean.

Did not take any pictures yet.

This is a great gym I enjoy working out at, but today, December 23, I walked in and the entire facility reeked of paint. Even worse, they were not airing out the basketball courts that had just been repainted, causing the smell to just sit. I’m not sure about everyone else, but for people who have asthma, this is a massive issue and can trigger asthma. This is honestly a health issue that should’ve been planned out in advanced, meaning this should have been done during a time in which paying members should not have to breathe in toxic air.

Ashley confirmed that they allow kids to identify as whatever gender they see that they are. This means that they will support a girl that claims to be a boy, to participate against boys, and will allow boys to compete against little girls if they "think" they are a girl. How about that?! Isnt the YMCA something? You are forcing young children deal with this nonsense and worst of all, the coaches will have to support it. We will never allow our children to be involved with any organization that doesn't take a hard stance on identity nonsense, especially one like the YMCA that is supposed to help mold and strengthen our children, not confuse them

The “month to month” membership is a lie. I tried to cancel at the end of the month (would’ve sooner but I was bedridden with COVID for over a week) and was informed that you must cancel by the 25th or you’ll be billed for another month! This seems like a really slimey way to take more money from people who may be cancelling for a variety of reasons including financial emergencies. The facility itself is okay. The locker rooms are not very clean so I wouldn’t recommend showering there unless you want athletes foot (even with shower shoes). The child watch center leaves a lot to be desired as well. There were some excellent employees there however one in particular made it clear she did not like my son (who is ONE) and basically let the children run wild…they were rummaging through cabinets when I came to pick up my kids once. Not very safe if you ask me.

Customer service is terrible, and very unorganized. I had to go up to management just to get a start date on my kids soccer, because no one in the front desk new. None of the soccer fields are labeled so good luck finding your team. Our coach dipped out on the last day, and was supposed to take team pics (she didn’t), and she didn’t put anyone in charge when she left so I literally had to step in and help coach. Did I mind, no, but what else was I supposed to do. The other team was running scrimmages, and our kids were sitting around the field picking flowers 😑.

In addition, for some reason we had only 6 players in our team, which meant they had to play the entire game. Mind you, I have a 6 year old….there is no way in hell she can play an entire game. The other team had so many players, so many I lost count…I think I counted 11. They could easily switch out players when they got to tired. So on our last day we were forced to forfeit in the middle because our team was too tired to continue 😢. The other team stayed and played a game with their own team, it was pretty messed up. My daughter was upset because she couldn’t understand why we had to stop the game 😡.

The saddest part, while we loaded up the car one of the parents rushed over to hand over a medal for her. Apparently a director (I’m not sure who) handed them to her. It did cheer my daughter up, but sadly not everyone got a medal because they had already left by the time medals were handed out.

Hopefully they’ll actually read this and make the proper changes, and have a better way to educate coaches of their responsibilities.

Re: Feeling Devalued as a Patron
NW YMCA canceled my mbrship without providing a simple courtesy call or sending a simple mailer notifying me of payment issues. What was the purpose of providing my address and phone if you were not going to use it? To add further fuel to the fire in the theme of no value Based Customer Service, when I inquired as to the reason I wasn't called I was given a cookie cutter answer that the YMCA has 30,000 customers across Columbia (although not at NW location)that make it impossible to provide courtesy calls. Their policy is to send emails. Not once did I get an empathetic I am sorry or I apologize for the inconveniences. It is an inconvenience to get stuck with a $30 charge off that could have been prevented with a simple call. Needless to say, I have taken my business elsewhere rather than feel like a number. My message to the NW YMCA is that every customer has value.

Friendly employees, a wide range of activities, and very nice facilities. Aside from the normal exercise equipment, they have a pool, sauna, gym, indoor walking track, classes, and they even have child care! The only reason this isn’t getting 5 stars is because the people who go here don’t do what they’re supposed to and clean the equipment when they’re done so if you want to have clean equipment then you have to clean it before you use it.
