Last night we had the most amazing time at Palmetto Dunes pickleball courts! WAHHI hosted a tournament at night and it was fantastic! Chris Johnston coordinated a smooth, well run event from start to finish. We are so thankful for his patience, knowledge, and support. Herding 80 women with a smile on his face! Pickleball pro, Paul, was jumped in to warm up players with the ball machine. He showed his love of the game and cheered on all of the players until the bitter end. Our evening ended with Big Jim’s pizzas and drinks. Our servers Rachel and Brandon Lee were delightful and on point. Thank you Palmetto Dunes for hosting us and being exceptional.

My husband and I have been coming to Palmetto Dunes for the last few years and have recently started to play pickleball. We took lessons at Palmetto Dunes Tennis and Pickleball Center. We came down for a long girl's pickleball weekend staying in Palmetto Dunes and playing pickleball for 5 days. We had Nancy Clause 2 days for lessons (along with Rick and Andy) and the private sessions were truly worth it. Nancy was ready for us (all 12 of us) with concise instruction and drills for all of us to work on. Moving right along, she had us constantly working on practical techniques that we could literally then take and put into practice in our games. Plus, she was super sweet always chatting with us when she would see us at Round Robins or playing on our own. If you are into pickleball, you should definitely go play at Palmetto Dunes. With 24 outdoor courts, they have have a lot of room for you/your group and definitely do the Round Robins where they use every court -- 96 people! -- and there are people on the wait list!! Super fun and organized by level. I also want to thank Chris who runs pickleball there -- thank you for all your help setting up our group with our lessons, round robins and court time and for helping get all 12 of us registered and paid, etc. Everyone is great to work with -- very accommodating! And the culture there is positive and fun. Great trip -- we will be back next year (get ready!!). XO

Large number of well maintained pickleball courts. Staff and coaches are friendly and attentive. Paking is close to courts. I've been taking lessons with Coach Nancy Clouse for over a year and have been able to transfer my work directly into successful play. Nancy is very observant and quick to make adjustments in my technique or court positioning so I'm getting the best result from my lesson. I own property here, and the noise ordinance says 7am to 10pm. The pickleball court maintenance comes out at 5:30am and makes all this noise and wakes me up. Im an insomniac so its hard for me to fall asleep and stay asleep. I tried reaching out but apparantly they are exempt from the towns noise ordinance, but if you're a resident, you must follow the rules. It is absolutely disrespectful, and infuriating.

My family and I decided that while we were on our vacation to Hilton Head Island that we would learn Pickleball. We have been coming to the area for years, so we knew how popular pickleball is and especially at the Palmetto Dunes tennis and pickleball center.
A little nervous we ventured over to the center to inquire about getting a court, watching others and having lessons. Kathy in the pro shop was amazingly helpful, patient and warm in welcoming us. She shared information with us and ideas of how else we could get the best out of our time in Hilton Head. She was very encouraging. We played everyday, sometimes twice a day. The locals were extremely welcoming. We had a session with Nancy…. Amazing! So so beneficial. Chris, who we interfaced with at one of the open play events was so encouraging. The amazing thing about Nancy and Chris, we would see them while playing on open play night or at one of the round robins in the morning, helpful tips, a thumbs up or a quick piece of advice, totally unsolicited.. To say we are hooked, under statement. The staff at Palmetto Dunes really went above and beyond and really made us feel like we belonged and that is huge when you’re a bit intimidated going into something new. Thank you so so much. We had the pleasure of working with Chris Fitzpatrick for a series of private and group pickleball lessons for our 7 year old daughter during our vacation at Palmetto Dunes. Patrick has a true gift for working with little kids, and I think most would agree he’s a Palmetto Dunes legend. Our daughter, who is almost 5, attended his Short Shots Tennis Clinic for ages 4-5. He made every session both fun and educational. At first, our daughter didn’t want to do tennis lessons at all, but Patrick changed that within the first minutes of class. He made the lessons so enjoyable that she was laughing and giggling the entire time. He skillfully incorporated fun games alongside teaching some fundamentals, which kept the whole young group engaged and excited. Our daughter couldn’t wait to come back each day, which is the most important goal to accomplish. We’re so grateful for Patrick and can’t wait to return next year for more lessons, hopefully adding some privates to our schedule.

Coach Patrick Walker made learning tennis fun! The junior clinic was an excellent experience for our 14yo. He boosted her confidence with consistent positive reinforcement, helped fine tune the shape of her strokes, and progressed instruction using mini-lessons within the clinic structure to ensure they were getting what they needed when they needed it. Coach kept the pace up to provide a great workout and simulate match conditions. We’ve never had an easier time getting our teenager out of bed in the morning when the junior clinic was on the agenda.

My husband and I planned a getaway to Palmetto Dunes with the goal of learning tennis, even though we’re at very different skill levels (he’s intermediate, and I’m a total beginner). We couldn’t have picked a better place! Over three days, we each did three clinics and one semi-private lesson with Eric Wammoc, and we were both blown away by the quality of instruction.

Eric is an incredible teacher - he gives clear, specific feedback to every player, regardless of the size or level of the class. He even uses video analysis to break down your strokes, which was a total game-changer. For example, I had no idea I was swinging too early with my racket face open, but after Eric pointed it out (always in a friendly, light-hearted way), I finally started to improve. He has a real gift for making everyone feel comfortable and confident, and somehow manages to coach players at varying levels within the same clinic.

Each 1.5-hour clinic included 5-7 different drills, focusing on techniques like offensive and defensive lobbing, volleying, and shots near the net versus deep in the court. The variety kept things fun and challenging.

The facilities are top-notch with plenty of well-maintained courts, and every staff member we met was kind and welcoming. We’re already talking about our next trip back. If you're thinking about learning or leveling up your tennis game, Palmetto Dunes is the place to do it!

Had a great lesson with Tripp Hawkins. He has slots available in the evening time which worked perfectly for my schedule since I work remotely during the day. We did drills, rallied and then spent time working on my serve. He has great suggestions and tips on how to improve. My son and I had a lesson with Dino using the ball machine. Neither of us had ever used one before so had no expectations except fun. Dino created a great learning experience for both of us. His style of teaching is great! He talked through some observations, demonstrated, and made suggestions. Pickleball was a lot of fun at palmetto Dunes. They have a pickleball pro named Dino who I did two lessons with inbetween the round robins. Dino is a natural pickleball teacher. He knows what he’s talking about and is able to point out exactly what needs worked on to improve your game. I would recommend to take private lessons with Dino if you’re wanting to improve your game. It will make a positive difference. Recently home from 4 days at Palmetto Dunes where we (12 women friends) were there for the pickle ball clinics and round robin play. Everybody working in the pro shop and manager, Chris were very helpful. This was our 3rd year doing this and were so fortunate to get Dino as our instructor 2 consecutive days! Wow! The level of expertise from Dino Dinopolous! We were blown away. Beyond any coach we’ve had! We extended our lesson another 30 minutes and then booked him again for the next day with the rest of our family.
My son in law later told us, “I don’t know what we’ve been playing but it wasn’t pickleball!” Dino explained technique as well as tactics to really understand the fundamentals. If you are a 4.0 or higher rated player and are accustomed to playing more than 3 hrs, this is not the place for you. First, daily round robins are only “1.5 hrs”, open play is only 1 day per week and last 1.5 hrs. The competition is not there. When the organizer split up the 90 players, only 8 people participated in the 4.0 and up group. This place is great for food, golf, and bike rides on the beach.

Evan Dinopoulus, aka “Dino”, served up a perfect 1-hour pickleball lesson at the Palmetto Dunes pickleball courts on the 2-handed backhand shot that I, Mike McGrath, had to experience to believe. He has a knack for teaching in that he breaks down the component parts into easily assimilated pieces. No easy task. Plus he is fun, full of positive energy that’s infectious and obviously loves to teach and play pickleball. I would take a lesson from him again in a heartbeat. Took two cardio clinics from Patrick. He was so good. Instruction was spot on. The cardio part was fantastic. So fantastic I considered not going back, ever, but did because it’s good for me. It was fun, fast, and he kept us moving. If you need to borrow a racket, they have them in the pro shop. I didn’t bring my tennis shoes either, just wore my running shoes. Not a lot of cutting or pivoting during the cardio - mostly shuffling and running forwards and back, so running shoes were fine. Next time I’ll bring my own stuff!

On a planned trip to Hilton Head, I wanted to find a tennis center where I could get instruction from trained professionals and get a few tips on how to improve my overall game - I'm a 3.5 rated player). After researching several tennis centers on the island, I chose Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center (and absolutely glad I did). Palmetto Dunes offered me the opportunity to choose a variety of clinics (at my level) and get private instruction at a wonderful venue. I registered for the Grand Slam and Doubles clinics on my first day of the week. My instructors were Eric W. and M.C. Both did a fantastic job of mixing the drill work with instruction, and explaining the strategic reasoning for the techniques we were taught. Truly just great instruction and drills that undoubtedly will help me improve my game.

After my first day of clinics, I decided to go ahead and book lessons with Eric. I'm a junior varsity tennis coach at a high school in rural Missouri, and a self-taught player. I will say that I learned more from the instruction that Eric provided (at clinic and privately), than I've learned in all of my years of coaching, watching YouTube videos, reading, and playing. Eric is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor; one who has a gift of communication (mixed with tons of humor). Eric's ability to diagnose small imperfections (okay, maybe big imperfections) in my forehand, backhand, and serve have already helped me improve my own practice sessions and have allowed me to self-diagnose my errors - I hit a lot by myself, usually with a Lobster (ball machine). Eric used a combination of his well-trained eye and video analysis of my strokes to help me recognize my areas of weakness and inconsistency ("okay, John, here's your forehand; here's Roger's....what do you notice?"). He also has a wonderful knowledge of strategy - things I really never thought about. In addition, Eric is a genuinely friendly person who makes you feel at ease the entire time you're working out - not that he won't let you know what you've done poorly, he will; but he'll always reward you with a resounding, "YES!" when you've made an improvement. Really, just tons of fun.

So, if you're looking for a great place to get instruction, regardless of your level, I highly recommend visiting Palmetto Dunes and signing up for clinics and/or lessons. I simply can't thank Eric and M.C. enough for the great instruction and enjoyable experience I had during my week of tennis at Hilton Head. What a blessing it was for me to be guided in their direction. Also, such an enjoyable experience to hit with the others (players) who signed up for the clinics, I'm sure all of them would express the same sentiment as I have. Finally, I also had an enjoyable experience interacting with the girls and guys working in the pro shop.

This was our 5th year of coming down with family to do a beach/active sports trip, folding in tennis clinics for my wife and I and the kids playing pickle with beach time in between. We have just finished two weeks of the Short Shots program for 4-5 year olds with Coach Patrick. Our son had previously never played tennis previously but these days we’re the highlights of his trip. Coach Patrick makes the game fun all while teaching the basics of tennis. I could not recommend this program enough or Coach Patrick enough. My condo came with two hours per day of play. Courts are in great shape and offer some shade. Late afternoons are wide open for court reservation and there are usually beginner level round robins in the morning. If you are looking for 4.5-5.0 play you'll need to contact people on the island to set up a game as there aren't really open play options and most people playing there are LLPs. Easy to get to from anywhere in PD with a lot of parking, but biking is just as quick.

Never played Pickleball before and immediately upon arriving, I wanted to learn how to play. I started out with a quick 101 and 102 lesson and was fortunate to be taught by Christine Fitzpatrick. She took the time I ask relevant questions based on athletic ability and recommended best practices and drills to get started. Immediately I felt great and confident playing. We were here for 5 days. I signed up for a couple of tennis clinics for our first couple of days. And then I couldn't get enough. The coaches are fantastic, the clinics are all interesting - they keep you moving and give you a lot to work on for when you go home. Two Sessions with Two Excellent Pros!

My wife (4.0) and I (3.5) were at Palmetto earlier this month. We did two 90-minute sessions. One with Eric Wammock and one with Patrick Walker.

Our session with Patrick was great! He got my wife to swing a with a little more power. She still has to practice it more to maintain consistency (as with any change) but it's needed as she sometimes place up at 4.5. The biggest takeaway I had is 11 more mph on my serve - no joke - I measured it on a speed clock when I got home. One little hitch correction on my swing made a world of difference to the power.

Our session with Eric was also great! We did some drills and then he found an area we both needed to focus on... the smoothness and timing of our court movement - especially on balls that are farther away / harder to track down. We did a great drill that made us realize a little slower is OK. We could still get the ball and depending on shot selection get back into the play or go for a winner. Really helped us both. For me during a match I'm not tearing around the court as much now like it's do or die to get a ball to keep the play going (a little more control and a little better shot selection can work in these situations).

I cannot say enough about this place and these two pros!

I have had tennis lessons at Palmetto Dunes over the years. Patrick Walker, Head Tennis Professional, has been great to work with. At 80 and still 4.0, he assists me with valuable tips and drills to reinforce his instructions. I am grateful for two tips he gave me on increasing forehand speed and ball toss placement. During a recent week in Hilton Head, we participated in 3 “Daily Dose” Pickleball clinics at the Palmetto Dunes Pickleball Center. We were blessed to have Rick Hobson as our coach for all 3 classes. Though some of our classes were rather large with varied skill levels, Rick dedicated one-on-one time with each of us. He has an incredible amount of patience, playing skill and coaching ability. Palmetto Dunes is by far the best tennis and pickleball facility we have ever been to! My kids are 4 and 6 and they absolutely LOVE the tennis clinics. Patrick Walker is an incredible instructor. He keeps the kids engaged and having fun while they learn proper technique and advance their tennis skills. The improvement we saw over a two week span was incredible! Additionally, my husband and I also took lessons from Patrick and he’s just as adept at imparting advanced skills and knowledge to adults as he was with children. We have been coming to Palmetto Dunes for almost two decades. The quality of tennis instruction and clinics has always been excellent, and the staff is amazing! Unfortunately, in the last few years there has been a noticeable decline in the maintenance of the tennis courts. This is very sad to see as PD Tennis Center enjoyed a well deserved reputation as one of the country’s finest clubs. Hopefully this situation can be improved for the betterment of the club and its reputation.

Best tennis facility I’ve ever been to. I took clinics everyday the week that I was in town and had the pleasure of working with both Hank and Patrick. I’m a beginner so I loved how much they focused on good form and provided tips about playing in general. I also enjoyed how much I got to move around the court and actually get a feel for playing. Awesome, unique drills and many opportunities to hit the balls (major plus for me since it takes me a few tries at this level). I left each day with a great workout. I signed up for cardio tennis every morning of my spring break trip last week and not only was it a great way to start everyday but it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing tennis. I took three different clinics/drill sessions while visiting HHI this February. I got to work with Eric, Patrick, and Hank. Overall, I had a great experience with all three. They each have their own style & personality and hers is how I would categorize each.

Eric is the fun uncle & supportive mentor, Patrick is the high energy encourager, and Hank is the drill instructor (in a good way, gets a lot out of you).

The doubles strategy clinic with Patrick was very helpful, I came away with several tips that will immediately improve my game.

Eric ran the serve clinic. He used video recordings of our swings to help breakdown our form and give each participant one or two things to focus on.

Hank ran the Daily Duo clinic/drill session. I came away with a much better backhand slice (focus of the clinic portion) and a better understanding of how to diagnose miss hits. Only “complaint “ is that the clinic portion of the daily duo is supposed to use video analytics but it didn’t. That’s alright with me, I still took a lot away from the clinic.

I’m already counting the days till I’m back and can learn more from this great staff.

I definitely give the highest rating for the pickleball club at Palmetto Dunes. I had a lesson with Nancy earlier this week which was very, very helpful. She listens to you and is very easy to understand, Hopefully, I will find that my serve and 3rd drop shot have significantly improved. Next, the staff at the front desk (a man and a woman, not certain of their names) are very helpful and pleasant. It makes signing up for lessons and round robins very helpful. -- Life is good. Contentment is not fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of what you already have.

Fantastic Pickleball Courts. My wife and I happened to be staying across the street from the Palmetto Dunes Tennis and Pickleball Center and decided to reserve a court to play Pickleball for a while. We were really amazed. There are 24 courts in perfect condition with all levels of players on different courts. The price was very reasonable and we'll be playing again during our vacation.

I was on vacation and took several consecutive days of the Pickleball Daily Dose Clinic followed by a round robin. It was a tremendous learning experience and so much fun. Sara Minton is an excellent instructor who is very relevant in her teaching. Her perspective is healthy and fun while giving you all the intelligence to be an accomplished pickleball player (no matter your level).
They have a great staff from the pros like Noah to the pro shop staff. They are lots of fun and very knowledgeable. I would 100% recommend to everyone. I’ll be back on our next trip to HHI.

Ok clay tennis courts, pretty new pickleball courts. They have lights to plat at night. You buy token to turn on the lights. Buy them at the Pro shop before it closes. Use the tokens anytime for night pickleball. You can also reserve and walk on for courts too. I suggest bringing your own set of paddles and balls. Have fun!

I suggest you stay away from these tennis courts as they are not being properly maintained with water. The courts are very dry and desperately need watered. They have been neglected for several weeks and are very slippery, I know this firsthand as I slipped and fell on a routine return, the surface feels like small pebbles on concrete. Play at your own risk!

If you love tennis, this is the place to be on Hilton Head! Daily round robins, great competition, excellent pros, variety of clinics. Coach Patrick is an excellent addition. Traveled there yesterday. It's $15/hr to rent a pickleball court. Maybe I'm cheap but that seems high considering it's $8 to play all day on a court in Macon, GA(ofc Macon is no Hilton Head but still) The courts seemed hard, I think they were asphalt based. I can tell because my knees will hurt sooner on a harder surface. Please resurface using the newer Decco-Turf type substance, which I would expect for such a nice area. There was freshly laid asphalt next to our court, which I hope a layer of Decco will be put on. I guess the bottom line of my review is that for such a nice area I was dissapointed with the pickleball courts. Griffin, GA, a much poorer area, has better courts with the proper surface. For another example of the proper surface look at Virginia Beach Tennis and Country Club or Harry G. Daniel park near Richmond. Really if you have the reputation as the best Tennis club in the Carolinas by Tennis magazine it doesn't show on the pickleball surface. You could probably sell a Monopoly boards worth of land in that area and get the 20-40k necessary to upgrade. I am by no means knocking other aspects of the club, just the p-ball surface.

during the past 2 weeks we went to 5 of the 2 hour morning supervised pickleball round robins. the staff work very hard to match you with others at your skill level. met lots of nice people and lots of great pickleball. it was often busy but never had to wait long to play again. their pickleball program has been very successful and as it grows more courts will be needed. they currently have 16 courts but could fill 24 in the future.

Planned trip Hilton Head in February for a trip in April to play tennis and enjoy the beach. No mention on Palmetto Dunes Tennis Facility website that they we’re hosting a tennis tournament the same weekend of planned vacation. When we arrived they said there would be no courts available until after five and to check back then. When I check back they said they closed at six and there were still no courts available. What are are the purpose of the lights. They advertise night playing. You would think they would try to be accommodating for vacationers who had paid thousands of dollars to visit Palmetto Dunes. I not come back and will make all my tennis friends know how we were treated.

Wow we had so much fun playing pickle ball at Palmetto Dunes. We had self taught ourselves pickle ball and wanted to take a beginner lesson -it was well worth it - one hour with three instructors gave everyone plenty of time to ask questions and learn the basics. When we signed up for an instructional clinic we had no clue what Pickleball was, however after 1 hour with Mark Anders as instructor the whole family fell in love with the game. We had an excellent experience here introducing our 5 year old daughter to the sport. We tried a single one-hour session and came back for the rest of the week as she got very engaged! Coach Jon was excellent to work with. He started out with the basics, and a lot of confidence-building exercises for the kids. Groups were always small, typically three kids with a group of six for one session. Jon did a great job keeping them engaged which is definitely a challenge with the age group.

The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the facility kept clean and tidy even with a few morning downpours.
