In all my years of working out, this gym is by far the worst. It feels outdated, with old equipment that often doesn’t work and facilities that aren’t well maintained. The 24-hour access scanner is frequently broken, which makes things even more frustrating. For the premium price they charge comparable to or even higher than gyms with modern equipment, cleaner environments, and reliable systems you would expect much better. The only reason this location seems to stay in business is the lack of competition in the area. Do better, your customers deserve it.

The AED inside was last serviced over 3.5 years ago ... I guarantee that battery is deader than their customer would be

Also since they changed ownership all the machines are collecting dust. I guess they lost their housekeeper?!

..... A week after this was posted, someone back-dated the AED inspection to the month prior... So it at least appears to be inspected, but with the backdating I still don't trust it...

Overall the gym has what you need, but they are a little limited on dumbbells and benches, lack a real box set or weight sled, etc. I’ve mostly been a member out of convenience since I live in Tanner. The limited equipment would only warrant a one star reduction but when I wanted to switch somewhere else when I pay extra to not be on a contract I got told I’d have to pay another bill even when I shouldn’t get billed for a couple weeks because “it’s a 30 day cancellation process”, no reason it should take that long. At least they don’t make me mail in a stupid letter or something.

Pivotal is the best gym network in the Lowcountry. I have been a regular member of both their Knightsville and Hanahan locations and they are by far the best gyms in those areas. The ones in West Ashley, Summerville, and Mt. Pleasant are even better since they’re larger and have even more equipment. I honestly can’t recommend any other gym to someone living in or around Charleston.

Just signed up at the pivotal in Hanahan a few weeks ago with two other family members. Justin was very friendly, helpful and made us feel welcome. He keeps the gym in tip top shape and is constantly cleaning. Not a big gym but has everything that someone could need here. So far very pleased. The trainer Laura was also very friendly. Would recommend to serious gym goers.

This was a great find! Don't let the size fool you, this is a smaller gym with all the state of the art equipment you need for a great workout. My boyfriend and I have been working out here for about a year. It has pretty much everything you could want or need but lacks a little of leg equipment like a traditional leg press. A male employee has been there the last few months and he is outstanding. Super personal, warm and welcoming. We had to move and cancel our membership this month and he was extremely accommodating. He’s constantly cleaning and fixing things (he’s the best employee I’ve ever seen at a Pivotal and I go to all of them in this area).
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because sometimes younger teens come in in the evening and it’s really annoying because they are messy, don’t re-rack and I would appreciate a little more oversight with that.

I just joined last week. I saw where I could get entered in a drawing for a free year if I left a review. As it happens, I have Silver Sneakers (for seniors) through my insurance company so I don’t have to pay anything anyway but I still wanted to leave a review. I really like this place a lot. They have lots of great equipment and a nice floor space to do workouts. Also, everyone who works there has been very personable and helpful always. I hired a personal trainer there to help me get started and the price was very reasonable and the trainer knows what she’s doing. I am very motivated to keep coming back.

We just moved here a few weeks ago and were eager to find a gym. The first gym we looked at did not offer all the equipment we desired, so we called up Pivotal Fitness. The manager was super kind and had us come in to give us the full tour. We were sold and signed up for a couples membership right then and there. I have to give it to pivotal fitness they are wonderful when it comes to customer service and personal training. I personally train with Darby in the Hanahan location. She is wonderful, very thorough and I always have a confidence boost when I leave after training with her. She is extremely professional and knows her stuff! Text messages and a big message board when you walk in to “Leave us a 5 star review, and win a year free”. They are pushing hard for a “5 star review”

Place hasn’t changed much from ESAC to O2, to now Pivotal. Men’s room is absolutely disgusting and hasn’t changed in cleanliness in YEARS. Use either toilet, and you will probably get a staph infection.

They charge a “Club improvement fee” every year plus your regular dues monthly. This resulted in a few pieces of new equipment, but same torn up and nasty benches and a squat rack from the 70s.

Staff during the day is hit or miss and if you do bring up a concern, they go right back to playing on their cell phone. Only plus is it’s 24 hours

My husband and I have only been members for a few months. Location is within walking distance which makes it very convenient. When we first inquired the staff was very polite, accommodating and professional. We always get a smiling face and a hello when we enter the building. 2nd week since the beginning of the year (it’s March now) that the gym has gone unstaffed. Covid compliance? Ha. Paper towels, hand sanitizer, hand soap remains unstocked. Can’t wipe down equipment. The kicker is the broken (or deliberately unplugged) water fountain with a sign above asking $2 for small bottled water which is of course kept in an unattended locked fridge. If you want to work out here be sure to bring your own water, soap, and towels. The “new” equipment is a third cable machine (why fix the current one) and more cardio equipment. The convenient location is no longer convenient.

Updated from 1 to 3 stars: The aforementioned issues have been remedied, but the overall equipment leaves much to be desired when compared to other Pivotals in the area.

They are super friendly and personal. The only reason I gave four stars is because there is no functionable water fountain. You have to purchase at the front. It's very inconvenient if you workout outside of staffed hours. It'd be cool if there was one of the fountains that's motion sensored that refills your bottle that conserves water. A water fountain is absolutely necessary for a gym. Maybe offer protein shakes/sports drinks/preworkout drinks in addition to water for purchase.

I called to cancel my membership (been a member for many years) due to the covid crisis. Was told I have to come and cancel in person (which is unsafe and the reason I am cancelling) and have to pay for the next 30 days and a $50 cancellation fee. This is not only bad business but puts me at risk by forcing an in store appearance. Very unhappy and will definitely not join again once the pandemic is over.

Update - I have been emailing the only email I was given by the manager (Pivitalcares@...) for over a week and received no response. The manager would not give me anything other than the first name of her distrcit manager and the generic email. No last name, no work email for DM, no phone number for a corporate office. Terrible communications and policies from this place.

The facility is poorly-maintained with run-down equipment. The bathrooms are never clean, and the regular staff are unable to do anything but launder towels -- any question I've ever had about my account was met with a stone wall of ignorance from front-desk personnel and required multiple trips to catch a manager onsite.

Things have only gotten worse after the Pivotal Fitness acquisition. After being charged dues while the gym was closed during COVID lockdown, I have been trying to cancel my membership for two months. I have a been a member for almost 5 years at this point and am on a month-to-month agreement. Phone calls are met with deferrals to customer service e-mail, which has gone unanswered after multiple attempts to reach out.

Pivotal no longer appears to be receiving mail at this location, nor staffing it according to posted hours.

As of 6/1/20, the air conditioning has been out for two weeks. Inquires to the front desk result in no answers as to what the problem is or when it will be fixed. Emails to [email protected] go unanswered. Now there's an oxymoron, "PivotalCares", it's obvious they don't.
If you're thinking of joining this gym you're probably better off getting your exercise by running away from it.

I've been to other O2s that are WAY nicer. This one is too small for the cost. Water fountain consistently broken. Treadmill machines often broken (and only one or two that are actually decent). Membership cancellation policy is unclear, so you get charged for a month you're not using if you don't cancel a month in advance. Don't waste your money. I was a member for years, but I'm so disappointed in the equipment and customer service from corporate. Glad I've left.

Wow what a mess. I go to O2 fitness in Hanahan. First, they charge an arm and a leg for everything. 55 a month for a couple, fees for this, fees for that, membership fees out the wazoo. Oh, you can do a month to month contract but it costs 100 dollars if you dont autorenew because you not returning to the gym is a huge inconvenience for them, obviously. The equipment in this gym is terrible! It's old, torn to shreds, squeaky, rusty, falling apart. It looks like it was found in someone's yard before trash pick up. The cardio machines are CONSTANTLY broke. O2 told me after ESAC left things would get better. They haven't. O2 is not a good gym to belong to. They charge way too much money for the product. All the fees are completely unnecessary, and the service you get is not worth it. It's WAY TOO much money. Stay away from O2. They are not worth it. I give it one star because I cannot rate a 0.

I'm giving them one star because zero is not an option. I was texting with the person from the gym who offered me a $199 paid in full year option. When I showed up the next day after having told the person I would be there the next day they proceeded to tell me it was $299 and that the $199 deal expired the day before. For the location it's in I would expect bigger and better. This place is very crowded. It also is very dirty and just has a run down look to it. The schedule for employees to help you is very limited with no other options. I will be getting a refund and talking my business else where. Also after the staff is gone lots of people bring there friends who clearly don't have a member ship making it even more crowded. The TV on the machines would only stay on one channel. Also they said there would be towels provided but there aren't any. The bathrooms do have a shower but there isn't really any room if you just want to go in there and change.
