I love it when a 24 hour gym doesn't open until 7 AM. - For the love of God please take your sign down that says 24 hours. I am in town visiting and got up for my normal 5 AM workout, drove to this location because it was a few minutes closer than the next location, only to find out they were not open. So now I have to drive to the other side of town to a different one that apparently understands the concept of being a 24-hour gym.

Thank you for your reply. I tried to call you back at the "24-hour" gym after your post. Unfortunately, you were closed at 6 pm.

The Black Spa area is in need of more frequent and more thorough cleaning. The equipment, sanitizing stations and floors are not being cleaned well enough to feel comfortable using the services.

It use to be so clean- now it’s filthy! For 2 weeks now I have avoided two of the four toilets in the ladies locker room bc there is nasty body fluid (either old blood, puke or poo) running down front of the bowl. Sinks have a layer of mold and funk around rim where it meets the counter. The lobby had sand scattered everywhere and large dust bunnies. Can’t get certain dumb bells bc they gather them up for “private training”

5/7/25 update- Not sure what happened in 2 days. Paper towels empty in stretch room- told Dominique (name started with a D) after I had to get her attention out of a book. She didn't seem concerned. Tried to get on massage table twice and it wasn't working. She told me she would put me on #4, I told her that was taken. She tried 3 again- didn't work. I left frustrated as I had to get to work and wanted my morning workout to be peaceful. Girl at desk was more concerned about writing in a book- (looked like a study) and drinking her power drink vs engaging with customers.
5/5/25- After paying membership and not going for over a year (foot issues)- I finally went back this morning. I was surprised how many were there at 5:30am. Its a rough start. Place still looks nice and it's clean.

Wow! This place is beautiful. I did the Black Card membership. To end the night with the hydromassage was icing on the cake! Staff is very nice and I love the layout.

I was harrassed by a predator in the early morning hours inside the fitness center. What's worse, I was unable to leave or ask for help because the person working the desk was MIA. I will be canceling my membership because there are too many sketchy people at this location.

I’m uncomfortable going to the Folly rd location. I had to be signed in and was ask, “Didn’t you sign up at the West Ashley location?” That made me feel like I was not welcome there. And I saw the facility is predominately, Caucasian. I stopped going there.

Always a lot of nonsense here. Closed down for a little bit of rain, drove around and all other gyms are open! Aside from that, they do not make people follow the rules. People doing anything in there but working out.

If you’re even semi serious about working out this is not the gym for you.

The equipment is good quality and basically brand new. The space is gigantic, and it doesn’t feel crowded. Locker rooms are spacious. The price is impossible to beat. Without a question the best value for your money gym in the Charleston area

Tell me why an elderly man in a wheelchair was being pushed into the women's locker room 2 days ago to use the handicap stall? If he cant use his arms he has no business at a gym. Y not tell the old woman to bring him into mens. I'm 39, felt Immediately uncomfortable. In a locker room full of college aged girls, university students, n everyone goes silent. I locked eyes with a girl with a shocked face, old enough to be my daughter! HOW DARE U LET THOSE CREEPS IN THE LADIES LOCKER ROOM! Shame on the whole staff that evening

I like getting in my early morning workout while watching HGTV. The Black Card perks aren't bad because if I'm having an "I don't want to do this morning," I get a massage. Then, I workout a little. The early morning staff are very friendly at the James Island PF.

We wanted a place to hit the gym while we were on vacation and weren't disappointed by this Planet Fitness. This location might be one of the biggest Planet Fitnesses I've ever been to, and there wasn't really a wait to get onto any of the machines. Everything is very well kept and clean.

Place is awesome, and it just blew me away today. Greg is always at the front desk in the morning, I introduced myself couple months ago. Everytime I see him, he knows my name and says hello. Today is my birthday, he wasn't even at the front desk when I came in. As I was leaving I saw him and said hello. He wished me a happy birthday. He took the time to look that I checked in and saw that. Friendly staff is an understatement.

Went to the Charleston, SC Planet Fitness and it is Amazing!! Spacious, up-to-date equipment in Huge Areas of exercise separate from treadmills and other equipment. Bathroom is huge with large changing areas. Hydromassage area and tanning area is spacious as well. If we lived there in SC, we would definitely be members.

This is a great new Planet Fitness, and is a welcome addition to the James Island area. I have never had a problem with any Planet Fitness and have been a member for over 10 years with multiple locations in various states. This location is bigger than the one at the Citadel mall, and obviously still has that “new gym feel”. Try it out, will not be disappointed

I took a tumble when I was walking out to see the Morris Island Lighthouse and while I have a change of clothes, I couldn't get rid of all the sand. I had sand in my EARS!

Rather than keep trying to get it out of my ears and hair and other places, I popped in to this PF and went straight to the showers. I'd already gone to the PF in North Charleston this morning, so I wasn't needing a workout.

Plenty of hot water, a really comfortable space for changing and showering and drying off. And sure, there's a huge space with treadmills and ellipticals and all sorts of torture devices facing a bank of televisions tuned to a dozen different channels, but I skipped all of that today.

This is a clean and well staffed planet fitness. Everything works as it should. I gave 4 stars only because no water bottle refill station. The fountain water was terrible and you made a mess trying to refill. Good, quality drinking water is critical to overall fitness. Water bottle refills stations are eco friendly. Hope you consider getting one. :)

I switched from the West Ashley/Rittenberg site to the James Island site in November during their grand opening. Plenty of new equipment to meet everyone's preferences. Bathrooms/locker rooms are spacious and clean. The best part of the site is the staff. The site is corporate owned; and they were able to hire some of the old staff from the West Ashley/Rittenberg site.

The new staff that I was unfamiliar with are awesome; very welcoming. I applaud Planet Fitness for focusing back on the customer experience - and, in some ways - have gone back to old school ways on how to treat customers. Bravo.

Yes, and I would recommend that people who are interested in joining a gym - consider joining the JI Planet Fitness site. No, I'm not being compensated in any way......lol.
