I visited the Dutch Square Planet Fitness today to upgrade my membership to a Black Card. I had a promo code from my local organization that waives the annual fee, which is valid at Columbia locations. However, the manager on duty, Kody, informed me that he could not refund my recently charged $39 annual fee (drafted on March 3, 2025) because he had “maxed out” on refunds for the month and had received an email from Corporate restricting further refunds.

Additionally, despite my promo code being listed as valid for Columbia locations, Kody claimed that the Dutch Square location was not included and denied its use. Instead of offering a reasonable solution, he was quick to cancel my membership without refunding the 2025 annual fee, recommending that I try another Columbia location instead.

This was a frustrating and disappointing encounter, as I was simply trying to upgrade my membership while utilizing a promo code that is meant to support local employees. The lack of flexibility and customer service in handling this situation left a bad impression. I hope Planet Fitness improves its consistency in honoring promotional offers and providing better support for its members

Shady business practices. I signed up for the $20/month plan, with billing on the 17th. However, they charged my card randomly, claiming it was due to insufficient funds, which isn't true. They also charged me $49 a month early and added a $10 late fee, taking more money than they should have. I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing this, and I plan to share my experience on social media. Pathetic.

The gym itself is very roomy and clean however, there was no apparent staff working. I wanted to use the massage chair and hydro massage chair after my shower but I could not find any staff to be able too. I also felt very uncomfortable with someone in the womens locker room on their laptop as well as call another person while I was showering to judge me about using the shower. Again, no staff to even tell about the uncomfortable situation either. This is the first location that i have had these issues with. I do not pay for a black card membership to feel unsafe and not be able to use all the amenities! I would not recommend this location if you value privacy and good service.

They lie about having pizza and bagel nights, on top of that canceling is such a hard process. It's cheap which is the only thing good about the gym. They offer very little room for weight lifting but instead have 2/3 the place be for cardio machines that are never past 30% capacity.

This is easily the overall best PF in Columbia! The location is great for parking. Not only does it have a ton of machines, but the variety of them is better than any other locations - particularly for lower body.

The tanning beds could be better, with some of them having bulbs that are out. Some of the lay downs have dirt and hair trapped under the plexiglass where bulbs changes have happened, and it just looks... gross - even though the part you're laying on is clean. I prefer Harbison if I'm just tanning (their beds are brand new from opening in Novmever 2023).

However, the staff here is awesome! They're very helpful and friendly without being intrusive. I see them go around to inspect machines and clean regularly. I've seen them help members figure out how the machines work. They could just tell the members to scan the QR code for tye isntrucruonal video, but they don't and never seem bothered by requests for help.

The people that go here are also very nice and you'll always feel welcomed.

Look it's a cut rate gym. Don't go expecting the royal treatment. The employees don't have great customer service (sometimes they even seem to go out of there way to give bad customer service). Years ago I even had an employee intentionally bump into me and keep walking. Like he was trying to pick a fight or something. This was at the GF location to be fair though. Also sometimes there are long waits for equipment.
I've been a member for many years and have worked out at several Columbia locations. They all have problems, mostly staff related IMO. Honestly though if you look at some of the employees it's obvious this is just a job to them. Fair enough. I don't go to planet fitness expecting anything other than a good workout. All that said I'm proud of the progress I've made working out at pf. In the end if we didn't have planet fitness the community would be much worse off in many ways. It would be hard to duplicate service they provide.

This one is the closest to me but I rather go all the way to the planet fitness in Cayce because they keep the rest rooms and showers very clean there. Over the past 3 weeks I have used the showers at this location and the same nastiest stuff caked up on the wall for the past 3 WEEKS! That lets me know they are not cleaning the women’s shower or someone is just not doing a good job. I thought it was a one time thing but when I came a WHOLE week later and the same dirty shower like it never been cleaned. I will drive the extra time just to get a clean shower at the Planet Fitness in Cayce.

Moved to this area recently & this PF seems newer at glance but the equipment seems old and uncared for, the layout is so unorganized and somehow cramped even though the place is huge. The equipment also has a weird grime to it. I went to the one on Garner’s Ferry and they were on top of their game with cleaning, making sure there were paper towels so people could wipe things down and vacuuming/mopping areas regularly. This one seems unkept and they do seem to be minimally staffed. I’ll keep going to this one until the one on Harbison opens, I hope that one will be better because it’ll be closer to me.
