Years ago, I gave Planet Fitness, at the Inlet Square Mall, a 5-star rating when they were located inside the mall and the facility was smaller. It was appealing and enjoyable to use. Then, the employees were excellent at keeping the machines and other areas of the facility clean. It was common place to see someone always cleaning. The employees also were signing up new members and offering fun contests. The facility was cozy and inviting for all ages.

Now, at the new facility at Inlet Square Mall it has been a disappointment and is industrial looking and severely lacks in the areas of cleanliness and appearance. The glass doors are usually grungy with visible finger prints. It presents a bad image before you even walk in. At any given time, there are several staff members at the check-in desk personally chatting and/or looking at their cell phones. It's a little extreme to see 3 or 4 young staffers crowded behind the counter when only 1 or 2 is sufficient to assist people as they enter. The others need to be on the floor cleaning and stocking. Paper towel stations often do not have paper. So, without paper towels many of the members don't bother to walk over to a different station to get a towel and clean the machine. The bathrooms are not as clean. The Hydro Lounge machines are frequently in need of repair. There is no way to provide any feedback inside the facility as before.

At one time, it was the best in Murrells Inlet.

The area around the check-in desk is so lake luster with very little furniture, stark lighting and what furniture they have is metal and uncomfortable. There is space for more comfortable furniture in here. Seating in common areas is scarce.

The BLACK CARD area is a disappointment with lack luster seating area. Not enough seating. Broken machines and frequently no paper towels. The lighting is too bright in the Hydro lounge room and when you are on the beds you're looking up at bright lighting. Not relaxing.

Changes are much needed at this facility.

Planet Fitness has not been keeping their equipment in working condition for its customers. I have been a member for a year but cancelled today because over the last year they have managed to have made membership difficult for paying customers. Last summer they gave teens free gym time which added twice as many people in the gym and at peak times! That meant paying customers couldn’t get in or had to come back. Gym leaks from ceilings during rain storms, potholes all around gym (mall management has made no attempts to fill in and they’re getting progressively worse), and limited hours. If you want to join a gym check out somewhere else! This is NOT the place. High turnover on staff and new manager doesn’t seem to care if equipment gets fixed or not.

Its ok to use when you on vacation. Dumbells only go up to 75 lbs. Never busy to the point you have to wait for anything. Their ab machines are really good. I enjoyed all of them

This review reflected my opinion months ago:
Love the front desk folks... Dylan, Grayson, and Eileen, however, the management is terrible at maintaining the bathrooms and showers. I make every effort to never have to use those dirty toilets. I clean my own shower best I can, but there is hair and other "leftovers" that I see for months. No way these showers ever get a thorough clean😓Many times equipment is left broken for weeks. Some of the TV channels don't work with the equipment.

Most recently, I upgraded my membership so that I could go tanning prior to my upcoming trip. THREE out four tanning beds have MOST bulbs out😭, yet they keep sending people back there as if they will actually get tan. Ridiculous. One bed has 12 out of 60!!! bulbs that work; that means 48 DON'T, in just one bed. See photos. It blows my mind.

This location is closer to my house and I also like a lot of the people I work out with, but the Socastee location is much better managed.

You have to have the app and use it to enter. The QR that shows you are a valid paid member is not enough because I think their main business is tracking and selling your info. They want your app on. floors and showers often not cleaned daily. Some staff are rude. Too crowded

Responding: Then why is the person at the desk hassling me about using my Qr the identifies me? I asked if it’s required in the small print and the PF employee didn’t answer. I checked in with my Qr probably 100 times before, why is this happening? Btw PF tried to add another monthly charge 24 hours after I cancelled my membership. Hope this is not spite. That’s all for now, going to workout. Falling behind in my fitness schedule.

Update: yeah they could have not charged me for an extra month since the facilities are not cleaned and service was rude for no reason at all but they want to beat me out out of another $15 bucks. Awful experience all together. Zero star branch.

A Few months ago, I would have given terrible feedback about my Murrells Inlet planet fitness experience. Soon after they moved to the new location, there was a large number of tread mills out of order along with many bikes, elliptic machines and wight equipment as well. To top it off, all the Televisions were out of order for at least 3 weeks. Nothing was being done, despite repeated complaints to the then manager on duty. That is no longer the case. The new manager (I believe her name is Megan) really does a good job in maintaining all the equipment in good working order. Since she took over, we rarely see a machine down for more than a couple of days. Furthermore, she is the only planet fitness manager I have ever seen that actually CLEANS THE EQUIPMENT HERSELF! This is something rare to find and she should be rewarded by Planet Fitness Corporate for doing such a great job. Beyond that, the new staff is pleasant and polite and always available to assist with any customer's needs.

This is the second year in a row we have used Planet Fitness in Murrell's while here on vacation and we've had an excellent experience! From the moment we walked in, the staff has been incredibly welcoming and helpful—especially Eileen, who consistently goes above and beyond with her outstanding customer service. She's friendly, knowledgeable, and always makes sure members feel comfortable and taken care of.

The gym itself is always spotless—cleanliness clearly is a top priority here. The equipment is not only in great condition but there's also a wide variety available, so no matter what time I come in, I never have to wait long (if at all) to use a machine. Whether you're just starting out or a regular gym-goer, Planet Fitness offers everything you need in a supportive, judgment-free environment.

UPDATE: Intermittent AC outages, roof leaks regularly after rain, allowing teens in for free over the summer. When you workout you need to focus. Sweating in a hot and muggy facility and being overcrowded by teens for no obvious reason are the reasons I have cancelled my membership and will workout elsewhere. For those new to working out who don’t have gym standards, this may be fine. Unfortunately for me, it’s not. Just some things to consider if you are a novice to advanced person at the gym.

If you are a beginner to working out and want a lowkey, easy to navigate gym, this place is for you. It’s clean, staff is friendly and there are plenty of cardio machines. If you are more experienced you may not like this franchise, but you likely know that already.

I've had nothing but issues at the location since moving to SC. First it was a transfer issue bc no management at this location or my previous state location, on weekends. Then they charged a late fee they refused to lift. Now I'm trying to place my account on hold and unlike anything anyone I know has experienced, I'm told I have to do it in person. That's the issue, I can't. SO now they're going to continue charging me for something I can't use. Now let's get to the store issues. Filthy. Always dirty, the tanning beds are always dirty. Not just the last person wipe down, but under the glass and around the entire beds, cracks, crevices, vents etc. The floor always covered in sand. Many lockers smell. I've visited other cities and states and not seen anything like this. If COVID had been real, everyone in the place would be dead. Equipment is always crowded. Wait times every time on tanning. There's 4 in the MB area and I was told the same owner runs them. Only 1 of the 4 stores is actually 24/7 although we are still paying the same bs charges across the country for a service we aren't receiving. I knew from the beginning it was a Blackrock Vanguard company but I enjoyed the setup so I stayed. The only reason they're really still open is bc the MILITARY is frequenting these gyms and they personally want them to stay open but enough is enough. Also, I've seen people with their cameras in the locker room which I seen on PF site, supposed to be against policy. As well, one of the other 4 stores, had Equipment so close you can't put your foot between the treadmills, and many people have no gym etiquette to leave an empty treadmill between you. Again, if covid was real, PF would have killed everyone. Maybe you should actually have employees that clean the buildings. But they're usually in huddles at the desk.>>>Furthermore, I've been able to sign IMPORTANT LEGAL documents via online, but can't place a hold on my acct online or by phone.

I’ve noticed that employees do not clean the tanning beds at the Murrells Inlet, SC location. They leave it to the goodwill of the patrons, which is a huuuge health hazard. I clean them twice before use because I have never physically seen an employee clean them. I’ve actually had them tell me to notify them at the front desk when the person ahead is finished, so that I could enter. They did not clean in between.

I signed up for a free month of black card and after 2 weeks I already receive a renewal charge of $25 so I went to cancel and found out it was too late to stop a charge for $50 for the annual membership fee (6 weeks from the date I initiated the free trial!) I called the club and spoke to manager Megan and she says to stop in and she could help me. I explained I was out of town but could come in the next day. I went in the next day and the first employee said the charge was already pending and it was past the date to cancel, so I explained I knew that, but Megan said to come in. Megan came over and stated the same thing about being too late which was ridiculous because why tell me to come in person to tell me she couldn't do anything? Then the 2 conferred for a moment which definitely tells me something could be done but they just didn't want to help me. I suggested they just refund my money since the charge was already set to be removed. I tried calling corporate but they put you on a continuous hold. I just want my $50 refunded

This was such a wonderful gym! I spent the weekend in Murrell's Inlet and stopped in for a quick workout. The place was more full than I was expecting, but didn't feel cramped at all. The space was clean, well lit, and had ample equipment available. The staff member at the desk as I was leaving was so warm and kind, asking if she'd see me Monday (which she wouldn't because I was heading home before then, but honestly I wish I could visit that location again!). All around lovely experience and a great workout!

The lack of management and communication in this gym is horrendous. After my car being hit on Sunday, I spoke with a team member who let me know a manager would be in Monday to review. After however many hours I called back, spoke with the same team member who told me the manager looked on the cameras and saw the car but not a license plate number. I told them I was on my way, and when I got there the story completely changed. When I showed up Monday, the manager stated that nothing was able to be seen, no license plate or anything “so basically it’s out of our hands and it’s a hit and run” perfect. I stated I would need to see it so I could file a police report and THAT changed everything. She than proceeded to tell me to show her where my car was, AGAIN tell her my information, the color of my car, etc. she said she would look tomorrow because she had no more time today. Again this was after her “ummm well maybe I missed something, um I need to definitely go second by second” as if she didn’t know at 9am to the 4:30 that I got there. I stated I worked all day Tuesday so Wednesday I would be back. After a full day to review, and now we are here Wednesday, she called me to inform me that there was no way to show what’s on the camera without a police report. Why didn’t you say that Sunday? Monday? Tuesday? Only now Wednesday? Spoke to HP and the officer decided to call and speak with the “manager” who stated to him “there’s nothing there”.

This place is horrible. The management at this location is horrible. Be careful with your cars here because they do nothing to help you. The lack of knowledge on their policies and everything else will cause so many problems for you in the future.

Needless to say, I went in straight after the phone call with the officer, cancelled my membership, and went to anytime.

The new place is very nice and they improved the parking lot, which was also nice to see. I do NOT like the NEW layout compared to the previous design however. Things are too spread out! The focus seems to be on the treadmills, but they don't need to walk between sets of different exercises & machines, so lump them together at the other end or something. Way too many of them! I would have placed them at the other end and placed MOST of the machines together for upper body, kinda like you had before with dumbells in front of the benches for incline work etc. There is a lot of room when you walk in to kind of rectify this I hope. Additionally its ridiculous, that all the TVS in that long row ONLY face the treadmills! I've learned that I shouldn't always RUSH through my sets. I am impatient, so its tough but Im trying, and it would be just as helpful for us to turn & look at the TVs behind us as well for a minute. Then do the next set, to help me not rush into the next one! Sometimes fast is good, other times, not so much when training. To slight all the weight lifters and you dont have just 3-6 TVs turned facing our section where lifters are, is kind of ridiculous & annoying. Not sure how difficult it will be to FLIP a few our direction, just saying. With all that space, and it being 2024, grant it I once played college football so a NECK MACHINE was always valuable, but even for older people who sleep awkwardly, or have bad pillows and neck problems, strengthening neck muscles is VERY important! Please consider adding a neck machine!

The newly relocated and updated
Planet Fitness within the soon to be former Inlet Square Mall is better now because of the layout and because there will be windows to the outside world which will let some natural light into the gym. The gym is clean and well lit. Locker rooms are smaller than before, yet not in a way that will interfere with changing, showering or whatever. There are several new machines which are a welcome sight. They will have a cryo therapy lounge thing in addition to the lounge massage machines that they had when the gym was across the hall. Temporarily you access the gym through the old mall, but the parking lot will be completed soon that will allow access directly from the parking lot. Staff members were pleasant and helpful today.

New/remodeled PF in Murrells Inlet SC is beautiful and clean, but I was so disappointed to find no ABS ROOM. Some of my favorite machines are GONE! I'm too short to fit onto the New ones so what now? Why did you do that? No lectures about upgrades please. Several patrons who spoke with me expressed the same thing, missing abs machine previously at the facility.

Ask yourself this: Who would you give unlimited access to your checking account? Planet Fitness would not accept cash or credit card to join. Even when I said I'd pay everything in advance. They wanted my checking account number and routing number, essentially granting them access to my banking. If you think that every employee is as careful with your account security as you would be, go ahead and join.

Was visiting from another PF while on vacation. Wasn't greeted upon entry. Difficult to locate entrance of gym since Inlet Square is being remodeled. This facility was not clean. Recumbent bikes were filthy and Sand in track so moving the seat was difficult. Women's locker room needed attention. Treadmills were dirty. Not up to Planet Fitness standards 😔

Nice facility overall. Need better hygene products. Paper towels don't do the job for disinfecting equip. The Murrells Inlet facility does not have a trainer.

The staff is super friendly that's the ONLY reason I gave it 4 stars! The standup tan needs a good clean ALL the bulbs are working.
The total body enhancement machine had 6 bulbs out. Definitely in need of a good clean and maintenance
