Terrible experience trying to discuss about transfering home clubs. The website to sign up is obnoxious, and will automatically choose a random gym. I needed to transfer the gym over the phone, and constantly kept going around in circles. Instead kept insisting I come to this specific gym to settle the issue, that's a 40 minute commute. So as unhelpful as this experience was I just decided instead to just cancel the membership and find something else.

Somehow my review was deleted, but I think it’s important people to know how shady this company is. I just wanted to cancel my membership and went into the location as they make do instead of simply “cancel membership” online and or app. This alone should be illegal. Walked in straight to counter and saw a person person there whom I made contact with, right from that moment was bad customer service experience with NO “hello, how can I help” attitude face not even a fake smile. I said I was there to cancel my membership and proceeded to tell me to do it on my app. First of all, if it were that easy I wouldn’t have bothered to go in. I told him this, gives me attitude look. He said to check in and I did, then asks if I know about the balance, I’m thinking I guess it’s one month fee. NOPE! They were charging me almost $90 dollars. He told me if I cancel, this amount will be there if I try to open a membership again. I said absolutely not! I’m not paying that amount to close my membership. Long story short, Latin manager lady repeats what he just told me and I said yes I know I just want to cancel. This unprofessional calling herself manager says” well I’m just letting you know and DO NOT INTERRUPT ME”!! I could not believe it!! Walked away with no membership cancelled, upset and calling her a not so nice name . Now they will charge me again for even though I literally went in there to cancel. It’s unfortunate and sad how bad people can hate their jobs but still be there and spread their hate to others. Filing civil claim.

I went in to cancel my membership, they said they had to wait a day and cancel, took down my information and said that it will be taken care of. Turns out they never did and have been charged for a couple months. Will never use planet fitness again with their scummy tactics.

Edit: The fact that I was told everything was taken care of and my membership was canceled then see I've been being charged for months is the reason for this review. Doesn't matter if I cancel online or in-person, if someone tells me it was successfully canceled then that should be the end of it.

Shavonnah is the best, she's always cleaning when I'm visiting this gym. She keeps the ladies restrooms/ shower area clean and smellong fresh. She's the only one I've seen with that vacuum on her back making sure the floors are clean. She always greets the customers coming/ going with a smile. She is very pleasant and professional. She takes pride in her job. This is very important. I'm so thankful for her.

Almost perfect gym to get a regular basic workout. The staff is friendly and responsive. A few months ago I noticed the bottom of the lockers getting pretty nasty from when folks were putting their work shoes in the lockers to change into their workout gear. I mentioned to one of the staff that the lockers were looking grungy from the dirt and residue on the bottom of people’s shoes. Guess what? Next time I went the lockers looked cleaner and have looked better ever since. That’s the sign of a responsive staff. Kudos and thanks to them.

Like I said a nice basic gym. No pool, aerobics classes or courts. The only other issues I’ve encountered were not with the gym but some of the people working out there. Some don’t know gym etiquette and will hog machines. They will either sit on a machine and talk on the phone, place a water bottle or towel at one machine while going to workout on another or do excessively long repetitions which can be an issue if you need the bicep curl or leg press machines to complete your workout since they only have one of each. They solved the problem of not having enough Smith machines last year by adding more which is another sign of their management’s responsiveness.

Overall some patrons need to be more considerate of others. Learn some gym etiquette and how to workout properly spending a half hour at one machine is not going to burn fat from that specific area of the body the machine is working. Maybe the staff can help by asking folks not to hog more than one machine at a time or advise people not to spend an excessive amount of time on one machine especially when there are more people there.

This is my "home" club. As I recall, it was the third location I had visited ever, and it quickly became my favorite. Now I've been to at least seven or eight other locations, and Oak Ridge is still my favorite, even though there are locations closer to my house. I like the layout of the floor, the way cardio and weight equipment is set up. I particularly like the locker room, which maximizes the usable space. Most of the cardio equipment has individual TV sets. Over the years the staff has been consistently friendly. The Black Card "spa" area is extensive, and they offer a wide variety of drinks. When equipment breaks down it is typically repaired in a reasonable time frame. This branch is a model for other Planet Fitness locations.

I've been telling in front desk this situation, but apparently we can't escalate to other management level in order to be heard and nothing happened to improve this service. The citadel mall is the unwanted step child of all the Charleston PF franchises. I’ve been coming here more than three years. First, the staff is excellent, but revolving. After a half million dollar renovation, the roof no longer leaks, and the interior looks fresh like the others. But that never bothered me. What becomes annoying to no end is the same bench missing a handle so you have to yank on the bare threads, for YEARS... What bothers me is when they open after 3 months (never stopped fees) and one of the squat racks is still broken. Is bothers me that they’ve added a second water fountain… but removed and walled over the original… still just one. Was this to help sell water bottles? Dumb. They’ve added tens of thousands of dollars of treadmills but you can come at the slowest times and all the squat racks and benches are taken. There are always more people lifting weights or cables at this location than cardio or any other room combined, but gets the least attention. General management here must lead with the eyes closed and ignore staff. Please walk around your gym.

Great staff.. very helpful.. club manager is awesome as well another lady who is always in there helping. Not sure if she is an Assistant but she has shorter blonde and gray hair. These two make this club better than the rest. At other clubs in the area they stand around on phones. I drive 23 miles from home just to come to this club.

I enjoy Planet Fitness when traveling as I have find they are all very different. This location is perfect for someone interested in cardio as they have more cardio equipment in one gym than I’ve ever seen. They have extra smith machines so when I went in the morning there was not a wait for anything. They are not open 24/7 so be mindful of the operating hours on the weekend before heading to the gym.

I especially like the Lunk Alarm! There is no-one grunting or dropping weights. Dropping weights annoys me; if you don't have the strength to bring down the weights gently, why do you even lift weights?

I called three times to get my account transferred and no one knew how to do their job. Spoke to the manager at 2:53 on 6/17/24 and she did not give me her name, but instead told me that it wasn't the staffs job to know how to transfer accounts. Everyone I spoke to, had a bad attitude. The alleged manager “Jazmine” refused to reimburse a $50 charge that was charged to my bank account and walked away using profanity without cancelling my membership. I began videotaping the incident and she grabbed my phone and took it away. The police got involved and I was banned from their location. I wasn’t planning on ever reforming anyway because they’re scammers and abusive.

This gym is okay. They need to update and/ upkeep their equipment. Most of the seated bicycles on the left hand side of the gym, click when you pedal. I've brought it to their attention, but nothing has been done. The staff at the door are supposed to greet the members, but I know one who doesn't. He's into his, watching his car, or going out to his car. He has a mustang? I don't know if he's crying to show off, but paying attention to who's coming in and responding to those who greets you he should be able to do.

All clubs are good but the showers in this one really impressed me. Two shower heads and a separated area to change inside the shower!!!This is a high class neighborhood and I guess the Planet fitness is held to the same standards. They have ruined my expectations for other clubs. Keep up the good work!

Seemed like a nice place. I wanted to join, still do. However, they only sell you a membership if they have access to your bank acct. I was willing to PREPAY for an entire year but was told "they don't do that or they don't know how to ring it up". I guess I'm just old fashioned but that seems like turning down money is bad business. Live close by and I had been going to Crunch Fitness off of Rivers Ave for the past 4 years. After joining PF here I noticed how clean and maintained it was. I eventually dropped my Crunch membership mainly because of the opposite experience I had there.

I wish PF had a few free weight squat racks and mirrors throughout the breakout spaces to focus on form, but I know a franchise probably wouldn’t allow it. Otherwise im happy I cancelled Crunch and made the switch.

Typically, I love this gym. I started coming here in the morning because it’s closer to work & WAY less crowded than the other locations in the area. The staff is friendly & the gym is kept clean. Unfortunately, there are some downsides to this location, too. When something breaks (both weighted row machines & half of the stair masters, currently & I’ve been told one of the men’s showers) they usually don’t get repaired. I’ve had to sacrifice half of my cardio time to give someone else an opportunity to get theirs in- which would almost never happen if there were six machines available like there should be.
The situation today, however, is by far the most disappointing experience I’ve had here. It’s Monday at 6:30 AM (they’re supposed to open at 5:00 AM) & the windows are dark, door is locked- nobody here but angry wannabe gym goers in the parking lot. Which is upsetting because I was looking forward to my workout and now I’ll have to go to work without a shower & get dressed in my car. I hope someone just overslept and there’s no crazy emergency, obviously. But this is not ideal for paying customers.

Editing to add: apparently the closer did not put the key in the lockbox from the previous night. The employee has been here, but we’ve been waiting on a locksmith this entire time.
