This place is wild. Young boys piling up on equipment, playing with each other's chest and pinching nipples. Couples just sitting on equipment, making out and not even exercising, 7 people rotating on one machine, each with a different setup, taking the machine for an hour or so. Just doesn't make sense. Woman sitting on the leg curl machine for 45 minutes and not doing a single rep. Guys in the restroom with phones out, clearly making videos and taking photos. This isn't a gym, its a nightclub for kids. The cheap membership should have been a good indicator, but I have visited multiple locations and never see anything like the insanity happening here. Very poorly managed, go somewhere else. The Citadel location is much better in my experience.

This location requires a photo, an email address and a waiver disclaimer for a guest to be signed in. A requirement I have never had at any other PF location since I began my membership with the black card 7 years ago. Will never be back to this location, I just wanted to go in and work out, not waste 25 minutes of my time giving you more of my personal information so you can market to me. While my guest and I were trying to sign in (black card membership) a young lady and her friend who was not a black card member were allowed to scan in and come in as well. If your going to enforce your own rules, make sure everyone follows them, not just new faces.

Amended review: really unhappy with the changes that took place a few days ago to the layout and the equipment. Fewer of the more popular machines now on the floor, the new machines seem like they were built for humongous bodies (I literally watched a little elderly man get lifted off the seat). The weights are heavier. What I used to lift I now have to cut it down for the same feel. Tried to scan a QR to get to the tutorial and it just took me to the planet fitness app. Do you not see everyone walking around wondering how to use the equipment? Very frustrated and unhappy.

My previous 5 star review:Always a good workout here. I try to go over on my lunch hour so the crowd is not too bad. Busier in the summer and when kids are off school. Lots of machines to choose from both cardio and weight. Not a lot of judgement and doesn’t feel like a meat market. Also clean and everyone is good about wiping down the equipment they just used. For $10 a month it’s a steal.

I Honestly wish I can write a one star I have been a planet fitness member for more than 4 years my monthly fee is withdrawn from my account even if I don’t go to the facilities for months which I’m fine with as theses are the terms that i agreed to I came into the location as I just relocated to Charleston Sc from Dallas Tx and wanted to go for a workout it is after 7:00pm the Manager Moises I’m assuming stops me abrupt “I cannot let you in here there is a fee “ mind you I am a member but with a basic membership understandable but why would I pay a fee when I can just transfer from my home gym here?? he Responds well this is not your home gym and the fee is 5 dollars…. I responded and waited in the lobby area for about 40minss on hold calling my previous home location for a transfer to the Summerville Location Customer until he decided to now allow me to work out my interactions with the employed here not so great as the employed working on the shift as well smiling while this is taking place as if it’s funny considering cancelling my membership

Very good club all around except when people won't use a machine and move on and instead sit on it checking their cell phone for what feels like an eternity. If you ask them if they're done, the usual reply is something like: "I just have a few more sets". Using it correctly, a person who knows what they're doing can be on and off in 90 seconds. Too many people hogging machines and doing absolutely no work. I told one arrogant individual that "checking your cellphone is not an exercise". He acted like I was the one being rude. Do the exercise and get out of the way for those who are serious!

Planet fitness in Summerville is one of the larger planet fitness gyms I have been to. I liked how they had multiple machines so you don't have to wait for someone to finish their workout. I go for a quick hour workout several times a week to stay in shape and increase my strength. I'm not there to do body building so I can't say how well it holds up for that but for what I want it's great.

This planet fitness has the older style equipment. I guess we're spoiled from our home PFs, but these older machines don't have the same range of motion as the newer style machines. Other than that, staff and atmosphere was friendly.

Update: For folks that will undoubtedly run into the same issue/situation as myself. Corporate will ask for documentation and make you do all the legwork through emails and it will fall to the corporate waste side. They’ll hide behind their bureaucratic policies instead of taking accountability.

I’m a retired military member with over 16 years of experience in human resources and customer service, so I don’t take writing negative reviews lightly. But this situation was unacceptable.

I came in person to cancel my Planet Fitness membership because I’m in the middle of a major move. Their system was down, and no effort was made to take my name, note my visit, or provide an alternative. I was simply told to cancel online—despite telling them I had no access to a computer or internet at the time.

I came back a few days later to complete the cancellation, and even though I was still well before the next billing cycle, I was told that because I came in on the 11th and not the 10th, I would still be charged for another full month starting the 17th.

Front desk staff said there was nothing they could do. I called the corporate number, only to be told they have no control and to speak with the manager. When I did, I was put on hold, then questioned as if I was making the story up. I explained the situation clearly and honestly—that their system was down and this was not my fault—but it was clear he had already made up his mind.

This is not how you treat people—especially those who go out of their way to follow the process and communicate respectfully. There was no accountability, no effort to help, and no ownership of a system issue that caused the delay. All of this over $25.

If you value basic professionalism or actual customer service, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Still a great gym but when they come and tell you your small bag has to go in the lockers when there are water bottles larger than your bag on the floor COME ON. If you have size standards for what can and cannot be on the gym floor make it for everything not just a small bag inside your workout area. If you want to enforce anything enforce people to re rack the weights, cleaning up behind themselves and cleaning off the equipment after use.

Such a clean gym! There’s no “Lunk Alarm” which is easily the most judgmental thing in a “no judgement zone” but that isn’t taken into consideration here which is very nice. Some of us are really trying to grow and get stronger! Staff is very friendly, facility is very very clean and they’ve got enough equipment to get very strong. Dumbbells only go up to 75lbs though and there are no barbells, but that’s to be expected from PF.

Lots of machines and lots of room to exercise. The employees are always welcoming and the overall environment is gladly for the most part friendly. The age range of people that go here seems pretty evenly split between young adults to mature adults, maybe 19-60 years of age. The ratio of men to women is also somewhat even, there is possibly more women. Everything you need, from free weights, machines, treadmills, and more is here. Locker rooms and areas for stretching and calisthenics is a big plus. Definitely a place you can get the best workout in and feel satisfied walking out.

Wasn’t welcomed when I walked in. Before leaving I wanted to us a massage chair with my black membership and waited about 5 mins as both the staff just went away chit chatting with other customers about random daily life activities. Completely ignored providing any service to other people waiting in line. I don’t care if you talk to customers but if there are those who need service provide that before just talking a storm about nothingness. As I was leaving the male staff who ignored me as I was standing right in front of him did the same thing as I was walking out. Been around the country and 95% of the time everyone at min is greeted and said bye to when leaving.

I’ve been a member at 5 different PF locations, and this one has by far the worst service. From the first week, I was harassed by another member, & when I spoke to Brianna about it, she didn’t offer any apology or empathy that this was my introduction to this PF — her response was cold & dismissive, as though I was a bother.
She then told me that I couldn’t use the 360 room on Mondays and Fridays while I was there because a trainer had classes in that room.
The entire room is closed off for these classes, where this trainer leads beginner-level members through workouts that are far beyond their ability. I overheard a woman complaining about being sore from the Monday class, and she could have gotten rhabdomyolysis. The circuit room would be a much better space for these workouts, given the fitness levels of the participants.
Then, the assistant manager approached me rudely about carrying a backpack, while another person had a duffle bag. I explained that I needed it for a towel and fan due to a skin condition from excessive sweating. I use both to stay dry throughout my workout, and neither would fit in a fanny pack. Not to mention, this location has a known issue with car and locker break-ins, so I prefer to keep my valuables with me.
I left a note for Briana at the front desk asking her to call me about my membership cancellation since my $49 annual fee was pending. She didn’t respond until the next day, and when we spoke, I told her I didn’t want to cancel but was hoping to discuss possible solutions in person—maybe a compromise on the backpack issue. However, Briana wasn’t interested in any kind of conversation.
When I decided to cancel, Briana was once again cold and unhelpful. She didn’t try to keep me as a member or suggest any ways to improve my experience—her only response was, “if that’s your choice.” It wasn’t really my choice, but the lack of respect and support made it clear I wasn’t valued as a member.
She also refused to refund my $49 annual fee, despite me being a member for only a little over 30 days. I know from past experience another PF location had refunded me, but Briana didn’t even offer to look into it or try to help. She showed no empathy, and it was clear she wasn’t going to make any effort to resolve the situation. Honestly, it seems like she’s just going through the motions—doing the bare minimum to collect a paycheck.
I am hoping that an amicable resolution by the franchise owner is made based upon my unfortunate experience.
****UPDATE****
I spoke with Alicia, who was just as rude as Briana. I was harassed at this gym, unable to use the entire gym (as per my contract) & after only using this gym for 35 days was charged an annual fee that Alicia (regional mgr) refused to reimburse. I am speaking with corporate directly as this franchise fails to provide customer service and seems to do business by scamming people. I am filing a complaint with BBB for fraudulent business practices.

No sanitizer bottles in the shower. I’ve been coming here occasionally for about 6 months. They had them at first, even had a chair in the handicap for you to sit down if needed other than the wet bench after someone has used. The small changing room no longer has the chair or a hook for your gym bag. Had to put it on the dirty floor… hair and grossness because the dressing room corners are never clean here.. Some people need a place to sit to put their shoes on. Idk why they took the chairs out. Been to many Planet Fitness and this is the only one that doesn’t have sanitizer bottles for the showers.

Took a shower tonight in cold water. There was no hot water when there should have been because according to the asst. Manager the store uses endless hot water. Asst. Manager said they were having plumbing problems. Since when do the pipes have anything to do with the heat...hmm. Obviously, I'm pissed about this. Worked very hard all day and was very much looking forward to the massage chair and a hot shower before running off to do errands.

I had a billing issue and they wanted to charge me $15 for a late fee. Thankfully, Claire who is one of the managers I believe was able to give me great customer service and waive that fee as long as I updated the routing number and acct number. I work in customer service for T-Mobile and I have to stay I am impressed with her customer service she provided me. Highly recommend speaking with her if you have any issues SHE IS VERY FAIR AND ALWAYS HAS A SMILE ON HER FACE. Thank you Claire!

Easily the worst gym for several reason. They don’t care what so ever about you or your property. My truck was broken into and a gun stolen and they told myself and the police sorry can’t get ahold of the building owner for the cameras. Also someone smashed a car door into the side of my expensive truck, we were told the same thing.

Next i had someone put a lock on my locker and had to fight to get them to cut the lock. I could prove everything in the locker was mine but they told me I would have to wait 24 hours to give the lock owner time to remove it. Long story short after an hour I got them to cut it and proved my belongings to them.

The gym staff doesn’t clean anything it’s a pretty gross place. They pretend but watch them mop, no thanks. The equipment receives no maintenance and when it’s broken that’s just how it is.

Lastly after the ordeal of cancelling my membership I was told cancel it before the 16th so you don’t get charged. Come to find out they bill on. The 11th so I waisted an entire month by canceling it on the 12th. Everyone’s sorry but no one cares. Honestly I havnt had any good experiences at this gym. If I could give a 0
I would.
