Do not come here if you want to use the child care! The child care at this specific location is not safe for children. Every time I dropped our 2 little ones off child care workers are more interested in scrolling their phones then engaging your kids.

Our 2.5 year old has been significantly bitten twice and not a single child care worker noticed. We called and emailed the child care director and nobody seems eager to help us ensure that this won’t happen again. Never have a been to a ymca where I don’t feel comfortable taking my kids but this is one that I would stay away from

Awesome place to be to do your kind of workouts. The staff is great to help in any way they can. It is also a great place for health education and to meet and greet. I love the atmosphere and chatting with others.

The camp program is amazing ! My daughter loves all the counselors and has an amazing time when she is there. Peace of mind for a working mother. Love hearing about her adventures at the end of the day. All the staff are outgoing, welcoming and provide great customer service. The front desk get to know you and can call your child’s name without telling them. We love the YMCA!

I’ve used nicer pools at hotels. This one is small, the chlorine burns your skin, and all the lights are off so you get to swim in the dark. Lifeguards were nice but whoever was changing the toilet paper in the women’s locker room was so rude and got angry because my toddler had to use the potty while she was refilling the toilet paper. I’ll be going out of my way to go to a different location from now on. Very disappointing for $80/month.

If you're like me, from out of town and looking for a Y with a gym this is it. Most of the reviews talk about a festival for some reason. Good weight room with machines and free weights. Pretty good cardio area as well.

I had a membership here for a whole year. I never used it once. It’s impossible to come if you have kids because it will be a scheduling nightmare for you to work out. The childcare was always full and wasn’t worth the hassle. On top of that, their lack of compassion for their members is very disappointing. The YMCA I came from would call you and check to see why you’re not using your membership or what they could do better. They never did this here, they didn’t care as long as they were getting paid and when I questioned them about that, their response was we sent you emails. If you don’t have any kids, and you find the value to be greater than other gyms, then this is the place for you.

During an active shooter situation today, the pool staff stayed calm and professional. They kept us up to date and moved us to the child care center who also did a great job securing everyone, remaining calm and professional. GREAT JOB!

Their hours were very difficult for us to work within. We never got a chance to use the pickle ball court. The cancelation policy requires you to be there in person 10 days before the end of the month, or else you get charged for another month. This is antiquated & burdensome.

I wanted to give this YMCA 5 atars so bad!!! But the lack of compassion for members who pay $75 a month for the past 5 years is insane to me! As a Monday-Friday worker I saigned up for this place to take my daughter swimming on the weekends….EVERY single weekend there is some kind of β€œPRIVATE PARTY” and the pool is closed!!!! It is January 2023 and I couldnt take 1 saturday or sunday without the pool being open for only hour before it closes for a private event!!! I have given this place $5,000 over 5 years and they frequently have these parties even though it isnt posted on the schedule so you drive all the way there for nothing! Are you kidding me YMCA? Really shameful in that regard

We went to an event and signed up for the membership based on the programs that they said they had. Once we came home and looked at the programs everything was full and there was not anything open. They had open swim which is not something we need. We called and cancelled the next day. With much back and forth they are refusing to give us a refund. We should not be paying for a membership for service they are not able to provide. At the event they should be disclosing that their programs are extremely limited and full so they are not charging their customers for programs they cannot offer. People should be aware of this when signing up at events.

We had a family plan and used to visit the gym regularly with our children, we hated the schedules though, always closes so early and opens late, weekend schedules are the worst… also never got to use the pool because cannot handle the strong smell of Clorine inside the building and the old paint in the pool makes it look green, not appealing… We were also disappointed because I signed up and used to take my 8 year old to yoga class with me as well, he was always on point and NEVER caused trouble, until one day, the wrong person was at the front desk and suddenly there is a liability issue with kids under 10 joining the classes…. That day we changed our membership to single because I thought I could continue to join the yoga classes (which are really nice) and my husband went back to his 24/7 gym. It’s been around 2 months and because of the difficulty with the times of class I haven’t been able to come back, yesterday I decided to terminate my membership and was told that the Y asks for a 10 day notice , so now they will charge me for another month because I was 8 days before my next payment… wondering what the need is to charge me for an extra month when I haven’t even logged in to use the gym since we changed our membership… not like it’s cheap either!

I am very disappointed in the YMCA flag football program. It is a one person show and a one coach organization. Meaning there is one coach who works for the YMCA who stacks each of his teams for each age group ensuring they win every game. This same coach also comes along with parents on the sidelines who yell constantly at the coaches, children, and refs. I can't think of a more discouraging atmosphere for children who wanted to pick up a fun activity. From witnessing the behavior at games you can see that the children playing are being taunted, yelled at, and ridiculed. I don't think this program is what the YMCA stands for. A positive, uplifting, community atmosphere is no where to be found.

I signed my daughter’s up for swimming lessons last year July-October 2021. I paid out of pocket and turned swimming vouchers in. I was informed that I would be reimbursed. I turned vouchers in at the end of September 2021. I’ve never had to call so many times to inquire about money that is owed back to me. I gave them a month. No one contacted me or followed up. I reached out on November 9, 2021 and was informed by Susan she would forward to the appropriate person since everything was submitted. On November 10, 2021 I was informed to allow 7-10 business for processing of my refund. Ymca is full of it. I received nothing within their processing time. I followed up yet again on December 1, 2021 still not getting my reimbursement. I was informed that Jill the supervisor would follow up with me in regards to the process. I guess Jill didn’t care because it wasn’t her money, no follow up or explanation was made. On December 3, 2021 I received a partial refund not even one full swimming lesson fee for one of my daughter’s. How in the world they came up with that amount is still unclear to me. I reached out again that day trying to understand where was the rest of reimbursement. I ended up having to call multiple times leaving messages, being transferred back and forth with no results. I reached out to the CEO Joe. He followed up with me a week prior to Christmas 2021 and informed me that they could get a check sent out to me. It’s February 7, 2022. I still haven’t received anything. I’ve contacted Joe once in January 2021 and most recent being February 4, 2021. I have yet to get a call back. THIS YMCA LOCATION IS UNORGANIZED, LACKS EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS, DOES NOT HOLD UP THEIR END OF THE BARGAIN. I paid out of pocket for my girls swimming lessons and turned around and submitted vouchers that covered swimming lessons. The YMCA GAINED DOUBLE. The only person who lost out was me. They received two form of payments and it was only one service provided. I reviewed a partial refund that did not equal to one full swimming lesson payment. I want the rest of my money!!!

I have recently rejoined after many years, primarily to use the Downtown Pool and participate in a few classes. So far I"ve enjoyed the classes. Sadly the pool needs some serious maintenance. It is very rundown and appears to not have had much done to it in the last 10 years. Such a shame.

They also get together outside of the gym . You become friends. They have a daycare. Water aerobic for those that need to start out slow. But just because its water. Dont think you dont work.. best gym in town not just a workout but you become family at the YMCA

Had a great time! Wild Bills Soda is the best...I did think the
vendor selling the Shrimp, Fries and Alligator Meat should post
their prices. You order and then get this price that is totally ridiculous (very high). When it comes to food, it should be mandatory that vendors list their prices...

It was a giant street fair. Nice all around with food and crafts and a few kid things. I went with a stroller and it was chaotic and hectic to get around with it. Also it was supposed to be a kids fest on the day I went but I never got around to finding it, and I went all the way down to the park. Perhaps I missed it, bit still not what I expected for the supposed kids day. Overall it was nice but harder for parents going with younger kids since maneuvering around to stalls with a stroller will be difficult at best.

Flowertown festival is always nice. I do wish some of the nicer vendors with unique items could be on the main road.
Also the people who sell alligator meat, they are price gauging big time! 3 years ago, nice pieces of alligator meat with fries was 7 dollars, today we got 3 plates of alligator meat and fries, it was $49.00!!!!! For breaded meat, you could barely even taste the alligator! Hell, I could have gone to Chophouse for a nice steak for that price. They failed to advertise menu and prices. The young girls seemed like they were making up the prices.

I've been going to Flowertown festival every year since 2010 but I believe I will pass on the alligator bread next year!!!

I am not sure where they got the picture of the pool. The downtown pool is actually an indoor mini pool (15y length) - better for aerobics than lap swimming. They do operate a proper 25y outdoor pool (Oakbrook) - but it is opened seasonally. This is the first YMCA that I have been a member that did not have an indoor lap pool for a town of this size; and I have lived all over the USA and Dubai. Secondly, they did away with the small towel service which was nice - I assume to cut costs. Yet, I am still paying an egregious 70 USD/month. Thirdly, they eliminated the paper towels in the bath rooms - again, I assume to cut cost. In short, the price you pay for the Summerville YMCA does not align with the value you receive from its services. My prediction is when the seniors can no longer attend (that make up a majority of the membership), the Summerville YMCA will be out of business. Already companies like planet fitness are increasing their membership and offering a good value. And there will we more competition as the town continuers to grow.

Nice facility, good share of cardio and weights. Reasonably priced. Only issue is it is constantly slammed.

I joined this YMCA during my 7 month stay in Summerville while husband was deployed because of the child care, the gym was great, very helpful coach. However I cancelled after 2 months because the teenage baby sitters are a joke. They don't care about the kids and act like they aren't getting paid to watch these kids. They are on their phones most of the time. I took my 1 year old and 7 year old, my 7 year old told me my 1 year old fell numerous times during 30 mins and the girls just laughed. I hired a nanny and they stated home while I still went to the gym and paid attention to the toddlers room and needless to say I cancelled that month because I shouldn't be paying that much to be worried about my kids not being in good hands. Mothers you are better off paying a baby sitter and a cheaper gym for care you can trust!

This will be our second and our last year with this YMCA and ANY of their programs. Came home after picking my kids up from their camps and was told by my 11 year old that he watched a youtube video with swears. Did not pay to have them watch inappropriate material. Have had a few other problems through out our time with this YMCA but this was the last straw. My question to them is what else are they doing there besides this that doesn't get brought up?

They have a pretty decent gym at an affordable family rate, they tween room, my oldest enjoys.

Now for their toddler room, this is a different story, like i cant explain how un caring and un responsible the teens are that watch them in the afternoon/evening. The only thing you hear these kids say is, if you dont behave, im getting your parents; if i get your parents they will be mad. These teens dont want to do any work or any effort, they sit around and talk to each other and claim a paycheck.
