This Karate Dojo is life changing . My son is 5 years old and attends this Dojo as not just as a kid that goes to after school care but as a student of Karate. The care and attention that they give their students is bare none and you can’t find a better place to send your child. From when you walk in the doors and Ms. Laskowski greets you to when you child is on the mats with The Peña family and the Merchant family is remarkable to watch. When my child talks about Sensei Peña , Ms. Peña , Ms. Merchant the light in his eyes is breathtaking he want to do better for him and for them he wants to push himself and he is 5. The respect and love he has for this staff and for his teachers is amazing . He always says how much he love Ms. Tessa and how she take care of him in his care room. At the age of 5 he tells us at the diner table how the Pena family and the Merchant family are super hero’s in real life for him. Just the other night after fight club he told us he wanted to be just like Mr. Merchant when he grows up that’s when I knew my family and I choose the right place for him and you should too. I’m so thankful we chose Karate Dojo for our son’s after school care. I have been so impressed with the whole staff. This is not just a place for him to go after school. This is somewhere he learns and is challenged. He had done great with karate and it has given him confidence and leadership skills. When he was dealing with some behavior issues, they partnered with me right away to make sure we were consistent and that he would be successful. Went to an Award/ HOF ceremony July 31,21.... My dad was an inductee.... IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! I have been in and around the martial arts community for nearly 30 years. The amount of knowledge and compassion shown by not only Mr. Pena but his staff showed....along with the integrity of the event was top notch! I was so honored to have had the chance to not be allowed to be there for my dad, but also the numerous other inductees. Some lady I'm gunna call karate Karen, informed me the one bench in the entire plaza was reserved for parents only...so I get up and then dojo Donna walks over to scrub trends and makes a customer come out to move her car bc apparently Karen owns the bench, the sidewalk and the parking lot...she was extremely rude avoid the bench but don't worry Karen while I stood there not one person walked by, or even attempted to touch your bench ..I mean it's February the parents are pulling and the kids are getting in the car....rude lady

Brian is an incredible mentor for his students and community. He truly is an inspiration in the karate industry. I’ve watched him grow since meeting him 30 years ago when I started working for the Irmo police Department. I’ve helped him by providing security for two of his tournaments and his reputation in the karate world is incredible. His management and organization of the tournament was flawless. I left a local restaurant one morning wearing one of his never give up t-shirts and was stopped by an elderly gentleman. The time my daughter has spent at the Karate Dojo have been absolutely priceless. My 7 year old is genuinely a sweet girl but has always gotten into trouble at school for not focusing or just not listening. We started at the dojo for the school year and saw a big change very quickly. When we had sudden changes to the school year the dojo staff really stepped up to provide a safe daily routine for our kids. They don’t skip a beat. They have a lot of kids but they treat them all like their own. If you think your just another kid among many you’re wrong. They make a point to know all of their dojo families. They truly aren’t a daycare they teach these kids the importance of discipline, humility, and patients. Self defense is important in their training. My kid’s not going to get away with being slack, misbehaving, or not following directions while feeing lives at the same time. We are so glad to find a home at the karate dojo. My Grandchildren attend the Karate Dojo for after school camp and summer camp. They will attend here for all day virtual school when school begins. The instructors are very passionate with instilling good values along with karate class. They truly love their students and it is very obvious through their interactions with the children. I started my 5 year old son at Karate Dojo this summer. He’s really struggled the last couple of years with his speech delays. In other environments he has either been labeled as a bad child or one that sits in a corner by himself and doesn’t know how to play with others. At Karate Dojo he has absolutely thrived! Hello : Martial Art world! I recently made a visit to Brian Pena's dojo. I found myself surrounded by humility and love. The dojo was immaculately clean and well kept. I visited the Karate Dojo for a Special Ceremony several years ago. I was greeted with a warm welcome by Brian Pena, his staff, & students. it is evident this dojo teaches the Karate Way of Life. Brian and I have been friends since middle school . He recently invited me to his studio. I was in shock at how nice this studio was. It was so clean , safe and inviting. Brian has always been that guy that when you see him he has the biggest smile on his face with such a great positive attitude. He is that person that if you ever needed anything he would be there to help. We have had a fantastic experience. My 5 yr old wanted to take karate for a while so we toured the dojo. It was almost an hour. Sensei showed us the entire facility. My child hasn't ever been to any type of daycare or after school program so I was a little nervous but the security system they have in place gave me wonderful peace of mind. I couldn't even get in without showing ID. Everyone has been so friendly and our child was SO excited to ride the bus. All buses have seatbelts for picking up from school or fieldtrips. In fact as we have told people that we joined everyone's face lights up and says, "You're going to LOVE it!" And they were right, we do!!!!!

Brian has come into my life this past year as my wife has battle breast cancer, and he has taken my entire family under wing, as has the rest of the Dojo. As a parent, we all know that sense of peace we get when we are able to drop our kids off somewhere that we know they will be well cared for and looked after. That is the feeling I have every time I drop my kids off at the Dojo. They fill the week with fun activities, but they also teach respect, self control, and kindness. We enrolled our son when he was starting to get bullied in the after school program at his school. After the bulling we signed him up for karate class and took advantage of there after school program that they offered. This is his 2nd yr and it has built his confidence and his balance. I have the privilege of loading our Dojo friends on their after school bus every afternoon when school is over. I see the excitement in their faces and the bond that Sensei has with each of them is fantastic to see, it's clearly evident that this is his passion and not just a "job". The self discipline that our students learn early on is great too. They value his time schedule and hustle out, as he has many stops. His students take pride in themselves and others. The skills learned at the Dojo definitely overflow to their school day. Sensei has also offered his time to teach skills in our classrooms and career day type events. He clearly values his community. 3 of my children are regular students at The Dojo. The oldest of these three has cerebral palsy. She endured physical therapy 1-2x/week and leg braces/serial casting for most of her life. Within 10 months of her attending, she no longer had to go to therapy or wear braces.
The entire staff love my children like their own. They push them out of their comfort zones, and the results are awesome. Sometimes they are overwhelming!!!
My oldest daughter had some trouble last year during school. I spoke with Sensei and Ms. Merchant about the problems she was facing and out of the kindness of his heart, Sensei allowed her to join the adult class with me. He talked with her, bulldozing through her stubbornness! Words cannot describe how Ms. Merchant took her in and reached her in a way no one else could at that time.
Without these two, and the excellent staff members, I truly don't know "where" my kids would be today. If my oldest son didn't work and go to school, I'd have him in the Dojo as well.
These people genuinely care about the wellbeing, mindset, and HEART of my precious children! In the beginning, I was mainly concerned with them having a postive male influence in their lives. What they have received thus far, is SO. MUCH. MORE!!!
