I love the community here! It is a great place to workout with others who are motivated to workout and have fun! I really enjoy the 24 hours access and the the workout app, so on crazy work days I still can go in late night and do a workout without having to think about it! The group classes are fun and certainly recommmended!

This place is responsible for turning me into a gym rat and I love it! The camaraderie, the varying intensity of the workouts, the structure of the classes, and the mentorship of the coaches has helped me not only shed 80+ lbs but instilled in me the discipline and confidence to achieve βunreachableβ goals. Iβve hopped around different gyms all over Columbia for years. While Iβve always felt welcomed, this is the first place Iβve felt invited. Gene and Heather (Becky, Diane, and Ms. Hammock too) are great at what they do (including but not limited to: coaching, motivating, cat wrangling, and reminding us thereβs no crying in the dojo).
If youβre on the fence or just looking to try something new, I canβt recommend this place enough!

Went to this place for a few weeks after purchasing a Groupon. It is a great gym with great supportive staff. Class sizes are small and you get individualized attention. I only did the fitness classes and they kicked my butt! Anyone looking to push themselves or connect with a community of awesome people who care about fitness should check this place out.

Listen, I am not a crossfit-er or exercise enthusiast by any means, but Workhorse Fitness and Heather have literally changed my life. Here's a little background - in 2008 I weighed in at 308lbs. I was eating poorly (DUH!) and my work really prevented me from finding a schedule where I could be more active. Over the course of the next 2 years, I dropped weight...a lot of it. About 120lbs. Even through the Atkins Diet, transition to Weight Watchers, and typical classes at my local gym in Orangeburg, something was still missing. I used to be depressed about my weight and wearing size 48 pants. Then, I became depressed about the excess skin that I had developed. It was one thing after another. Then it went back to poor habits, where I would still binge eat a whole pizza if I felt like it, and I didn't care to step foot into a gym again. I also developed other unhealthy habits like smoking and drinking too much. Even after all of the weight loss and somewhat healthier lifestyle, I developed familial hypertension and high cholesterol. I didn't have either when I was the "Large and in Charge; Chunky yet Funky" Phil.
Fast forward to about a year ago, I met Heather and began working with her professionally on another project. I had still maintained the majority of my weight loss - give or take 10lbs. She invited me to come to the gym and workout with her, but, again, I still liked pizza and didn't want to stop eating it.
So, after about 10 months of light suggestions from her (seriously...not pushy at all or I would have dipped out), I joined her one Wednesday evening with my new workout outfit. Looking good is just a part of feeling good, ya know?! Anyway, she PUT ME THROUGH IT! But something clicked. There was no yelling like my undergrad days at The Citadel. There was no disappointment if I couldn't complete something. She and Workhorse Fitness were just motivating. They motivated me to do better than I had been doing. They motivated me to push my body further than I thought it could go. They motivated me so I knew that I could do more than what I thought I could do. On the next Saturday, Heather took me to Publix on Rosewood and shopped with me. She pointed me in the right direction and fully explained why certain types of berries were better than others. Things that I never knew that I needed (or wanted) to know. They also explained: if you want pizza - have pizza. Don't deprive yourself.
I feel like she's really changed my life: in fitness, as a friend, but, most importantly, in self-belief. I thought I had it, but she brought me to a whole new level. Last night was a milestone for me. I ran my first timed 5k on my own. It wasn't the best time, but I never thought that I'd wake up and want to run another one the next morning. It's officially happened. ;) I've recruited my mom as a client of Heather's and tell everyone I know about her and Workhorse Fitness.
I couldn't thank Workhorse Fitness and Heather enough for believing in me and putting a deeper belief of ability within myself. I'd recommend this place to anyone - no matter their ability. They can get the right program for you. What are you waiting for?! Become a Workhorse!

Workhorse Fitness is the place to be if you want to grow and be challenged in all aspects of your fitness journey. The knowledge, teaching and motivation of the coaches, IB, Gene, and David in unbelievable and they all truly care about you and want the best for you every day. The members of the gym encourage each other and it is truly a family atmosphere. Workhorse has plenty of opportunities throughout the day for you to fit a workout into any busy schedule. The gym also has showers for your use after workouts. The gym puts on many events throughout the month to build gym community as well as the Columbia community as a whole. They want a better Columbia not just for their members but for the entire area.

This place is very misleading and dishonest. I made an appointment through a Facebook advertisement I had seen. The post would lead you to believe that you are trying to be a part of a 6 week program for free in return for using you as advertisement. Being that I have a super limited budget due to recent open heart surgery then blood clot surgery, and being out of work all summer recovering, I figured this was the answer I was looking for in getting back on track. So I set up the appointment.
So I arrived to my appointment about 40 minutes early because I didn't know how bad traffic would be, and was greeted by Heather. She seemed nice, but didn't try to make conversation at all. She just pulled out a clipboard and had me put my name and phone number on a chart and got me to get on the scale. Then told me to have a seat. I sat waiting and no one tried to talk to me at all or get to know me or find out what I was even looking for.
Finally a little after 6p (the appointment was scheduled for 6p) we started the meeting. It was another couple and me there to hear about the program. So once she went over everything that the program comes with and all she tells us that this "free" 6 week program actually cost money. We have to sign up for a year contract and the first dues are due on the first day of the "free" program. The membership cost was $99 twice a month, so basically $200 a month. I'm still confused on what is free. Everything that is part of the 6 week free program is exactly what you get with your membership. So it's not anything extra, plus your paying for it, and your year starts the first day of your "free" program. Personally with all the medical debt I'm in from my open heart surgeries and follow up care (so much so my wages are being garnished 25% for an EMS bill) I couldn't afford the membership. When I told her all of this she seemed annoyed and proceeded to tell me that if it was truly important to me I would find a way. Every time I would try to give her insight on my situation she would just come back with the same line. If I was motivated enough and cared about my health enough I would find a way to make it work. Super unsympathetic.
I left feeling horrible, I was so angry and upset about everything I just cried. I was genuinely excited to finally get the guidance to reach my goals. I've put on 30 pounds since my surgery in May and I'm so lost on my diet due to my restrictions of Vitamin K because of the blood thinner I have to take for my mechanical valve. I'm motivated and have the drive, but that doesn't mean that I can just make the money appear and to shame someone and make them feel bad is super shameful.
I just wish they'd be truthful in their advertisements and not continue to try to con people and waste their time.

What I can I say its a rip off they don't care abt you just the money you will give them.. I went in for the "FREE 6 week challenge" they where offering and I thought they will going to help me get in shape but before anything I had to sign a contract for a one year membership can you believe this thieves I called them I wasn't able to start the free challenge (health issues) and she said well you are going to need to pay 30% of the membership that I HAVEN'T USE OR STARTED!! No class nor nothing and now I'm stuck with a contract to pay for.. So be careful with this gym they just want your money without doing anything...

Very disappointed in my brief experience with this gym. They advertise a FREE 6-week challenge, because in their words "most people want to stay on afterwards to become members."
Make no mistake: there is nothing free about this. Participation requires a gym membership upfront, a $200 per month, 12-month commitment. When I questioned one of the owners about this, I was told "People wouldn't show up if we put the price in the advertisement." Additionally, after I asked about the false advertising, the entire demeanor of the owner changed, becoming dismissive to the point of rudeness. A financial commitment of this level requires trust and confidence in the service provider; an impossibility after being brought in under completely dishonest advertising.

I dropped by to get information and was told I could stay for an info session about a special they were doing. I felt like the lady was condescending and almost bullying about signing up. She wanted everyone to sign up for a year contract. She didn't show the gym or really explain what they did.. Just asked a lot of questions with obvious answers like, who wants diabetes? Who would like to end up with heart disease? Who would like to lose weightt? ....if anything, I felt more anxious being around her than I felt inspired. I also didn't see anyone there in shape. Most of the clients coming in were overweight. I ended up going to another gym and paying $1700 up front to another for a membership and 100 sessions with a personal trainer because the manager sat down with me and asked me what I wanted, what my goals were, and then told me how he could help me reach them. I'd recommend listening to potential clients and highlighting positives about your services instead of bullying people into joining.

Best gym in Columbia and Lexington. I started with the 6 week challenge, and just couldn't quit coming back for more. I've been to 2 other similar gyms in town, but workhorse by far had the best atmosphere, coaches, members, and workouts. I've lost 36 pounds and still going.

Totally dishonest and misleading!! They advertised a free 6 week challenge and that was not the case at all. They charged $500 for the challenge saying that upon completion of the challenge, that deposit would go toward a gym membership. They said a normal gym membership was $199 but I would get a discounted rate of $157 which is another lie. The $157 rate is not a discounted rate but rather a down deposit rate which is only applied if you were to sign up for a year. Nowhere on the contract said I would be signing up for a year... A gym should be upfront and honest with their terms and conditions. Recommend spending your money else where. They donβt even have showers and no one cleans the floors.

The promos are not truthful in advertising. Wasn't satisfied with the results when visited nor with the instructor who was presenting the info to join up. Not worth the money when I can and am getting the same attention and results cheaper with someone else. Plus if you go in the dark it's isolated and creepy!! We didn't feel safe at all!

Always been a big fan of cardio....and solely cardio. If someone told me I would find a gym that would not only get me into lifting weights but enjoy it, I would have laughed in your face before I did the six week challenge. I was skeptical and even put off doing the challenge at first...in fact Heather probably called me somewhere around 10 times to schedule a spot before I finally decided to do it. And even up to the very last moment of me being able to drop out I contemplated..but boy am I glad I didn't! I dropped 7% of my entire body fat in 6 weeks. That's wild. I actually FEEL good. I would never think that I would be the type of person who looks forward to setting a 5:30am alarm to go to a 6am workout, but here I am. I LOVE Workhorse. I love the trainers. I love the workouts. I love that I feel like I am part of a family here. 100000% recommend over any other gym or workout routine out there. Hands down the best gym experience of my life.

In February I bumped into a friend who had a major weight loss and looked amazing. When I asked her what she did, she said she joined Workhorse Fitness and did a 6 week challenge. I made all of the normal excuses and put it off until late May when I called her for the name of the gym. Imagine my surprise when I called the gym and they told me the next challenge started the following Monday. So, June 5, I arrived at Workhorse Fitness to begin my journey. In 4 weeks, I lost 7 pounds and 8 inches, felt better and had a better understanding of proper eating. I have never looked back! Now, Iβm an addict! The staff (Ib, Heather, and Gene) are absolutely amazing and they really do care about all of us β our body and our mind. They work together seamlessly to make us well rounded, healthy individuals. They tailor the workouts to you and encourage you to try your hardest. When I think I canβt, they show me I can and I find that I am stronger than I give myself credit for. I have made a lot of new friends β people who encourage me as much as I encourage them! Iβm really going to miss this gym, the trainers and my fellow beast members when I move.

I started my journey at Workhorse Fitness two months ago when I joined the 6 weeks challenge. I decided to join the challenge because I wanted to loose weight and wanted to get healthy. Prior to joining Workhorse Fitness, I was in and out of gyms and on and off diets. I was never focused and did not have a strong support group. I have a strong support group now and awesome trainers!!! The workouts are challenging and rewarding. I have lost a total of 20 lbs and I am more flexible!!!! I look forward to more challenging workouts and more weight loss! ππͺπ

I probably hadn't worked out in over twenty years. I joined the challenge and lost around 15lbs in 4 weeks. After that I joined the gym. I won't workout if it's on me to go to the gym and plan my workout. I don't know how to workout. I used to go to other gyms and have no idea what I was doing. I would become frustrated and bored and wouldn't return. The people running this gym do a cross fit style program. I would never have thought I would be into that but I am. It's not a cult. I'm not out there spreading the good news about cross fit and it's wondrous power. I am out here telling people who ask me why I look so much healthier about this gym and the people who run it. They are professional and fun. They provide support and education. I feel bad if I don't make it for my three days a week. I show up and I do what I'm told. Sometimes it sucks. Embrace it. You will see results.

Before Workhorse I would workout 3-5 days per week at your average gym. often times I would struggle staying motivated while I was working out or would tell myself that if didn't go today I would make up for missed time the following day. I did this for years and never trurly felt that I reached any of my fitness goals. I started going to workhorse looking for something different hoping to change this pattern. I will honestly say that in just a few weeks and now several months into classes, I am hitting all of my fitness goals ( strength, flexibility, endurance, and motivation) Anyone looking to mix it up with the hopes of overcome the daily struggles of going to the gym and never seeing progress needs to check this place out!
