I’ve been a loyal member of this gym for over 3 years and used to genuinely love it. Unfortunately, recent staff changes have made the experience at Basecamp far less enjoyable.
The biggest issue, though, has been ongoing billing problems. I requested to cancel my membership in April and was told my final payment would be in May. Despite that, I’ve continued to be charged month after month.
Communication with staff has been extremely poor—calls, emails, and even social media messages have gone mostly unanswered or unresolved. The lack of professionalism and accountability is really disappointing.
Even after acknowledging my cancellation, they’ve continued billing me, and I’m now forced to dispute the charges with my bank.
I used to recommend Basecamp to friends, but I can no longer do so in good faith. If you’re considering joining, be very cautious—get everything in writing and monitor your billing closely.

Please let me preface this by saying I have been an active member of Basecamp east Memphis since June 2024. During this time, I have enjoyed the classes and leadership under the previous manager. HOWEVER - new management/upper management has since changed my view entirely.
At 5 months pregnant, I notified the gym that I would be pausing my membership after my anticipated due date of July 3rd. I had a doctor’s appointment five days later and found out my pregnancy was high risk and could no longer exercise. At that point, I notified the gym via text and later phone call confirming a freeze had been put into place (moved from July-September) effective immediately.
Fast forward to now, I noticed my card was still being charged the monthly membership fee. I reached out to the new manager, Kyle, who told me the only freeze they have on my account is for July-September. I explained this was the original freeze, but should have been adjusted to start March 17th and I had the text, screen shot of the phone call, and doctor’s note requesting to do so. He then escalated this issue to upper management, Logan VP of sales, who is dismissing my request ever happened and that I agreed to continue exercising - against medical advice putting my pregnancy at risk I suppose??? I even asked if phone calls are recorded and who was working the night I called the studio. They are refusing to issue any sort of refund for the 3 months charged and are trying to charge me an additional month due to the 30 day cancellation policy.
I have never written any sort of online review (good or bad), but be warned this company has the WORST customer service I have ever received. Everyone I have spoken to has completely shut me down even though I have 3 different forms of proof. VERY frustrating!

My wife was given a one year paid in full membership to Basecamp Fitness. The membership was for approximately January 1st 2024- Dec 31st 2024. This membership was gifted by my mother in law calling someone who worked at the gym and simply setting it up over the phone. After she became pregnant, she stopped attending classes in approximately summer/ fall of 2024. While she was there, she really enjoyed it. It was a great gym.
The new owner, Jack Robertson, purchased the company around July of 2024. On February 12 the district manager, Logan, began texting my wife asking her to renew her membership and sign up for a new membership. She repeatedly said she was not a member and did not intend to sign up or go back to the gym. He stated that he was trying to figure out what type of membership she had as even he was not sure. She denied having a membership past the one year paid in full and expressly stated that multiple times. He claimed that the paid in full membership is converted to a month to month after the initial term. She asked for the contract to show that and was never provided with one. She has never been told how much she owes or even seen an itemized list of the fees they are trying to collect. There has been zero documentation. They insist that she call them or come in person to settle the fees. We have said multiple times we will be happy to pay if they just show us the contract she signed.
On 2/28/25 she was emailed by the owner, Jack Robertson, that she needed to update our card to pay past due charges. She again denied having a membership and asked to see a signed contract. He kept saying we were refusing to honor the contract but would never send it and claimed he did not have it. The owner claimed he was contacting the "old software company and previous owner" and would provide it to us shortly. Not sure how you can hold someone to a contract if you do not even have it. She sent a follow-up email a week later asking for the contract again and was never given a response. She has never been told how much she owes or even seen an itemized list of the fees they are trying to collect. There has been zero documentation. They insist that she call them or come in person to settle the fees. We have said multiple times we will be happy to pay if they just show us the contract she signed.
She received another blanket, generic email saying her account was past due. She again asked for the contract and only then was told via email that my account was sent to collections. They never have been able to produce a contract or any proof of membership. They harassed her sister as well, and because she was worried, she paid these fees. The owner has used that against us saying, "your sister paid these fees, since you wouldn't we had no choice but to send to collections.”
She has never been told how much she owes or even seen an itemized list of the fees they are trying to collect. There has been zero documentation. They insist that she call them or come in person to settle the fees. We have said multiple times we will be happy to pay if they just show us the contract she signed.
Now we have to deal with a collections agency.

I am so happy I found Basecamp. I love the workouts, especially the strength 110/10 classes. The staff is awesome from the front desk to the trainers. Olivia at the front is always friendly and helpful. Kyle H. is great on the floor. He is very knowledgeable and always demonstrates correct form. Brittany S. is amazing on the floor, always upbeat and encouraging. I love Basecamp because it proves that you don’t have to spend all day in the gym to get a great workout.

Basecamp Fitness Didn’t Just Change My Body—It Changed My Life. I walked into Basecamp Fitness with a heart full of doubt and a body begging for change. What I didn’t know was that I was stepping into a sanctuary—no, a battleground—where I would rediscover my strength, resilience, and self-worth.
From the very first second, the energy hit me like a lightning bolt. The coaches? Fierce, compassionate warriors. Especially Kyle and Brittany. The workouts? A symphony of fire and purpose. The community? A family—sweating, struggling, soaring together. Every 35-minute session feels like an epic movie montage, where I am the hero battling through pain, drenched in sweat, and rising stronger with each sprint, lift, and breath.
Basecamp doesn't just sculpt your body—it sculpts your soul. It taught me discipline wrapped in encouragement, accountability fueled by camaraderie. I’ve screamed on that bike. I’ve collapsed to the mat. And I’ve stood up again—taller, prouder, reborn.

I was a member of Basecamp for 6 months. I paid $100 monthly for unlimited courses and the price made sense because I went EVERY morning. If you can catch a special price and actually GO it’s worth it. I do recommend having a trainer outside of Basecamp to check your form because the people in the classes move so fast that proper form is not stressed and that can cause injury. Idk. My feelings about this gym are very mixed. It’s not racially diverse at all. It’s super tiny. Super. Maybe 40 x 80 foot room and they are putting 30 people in there. The workout videos are cool. I’d buy the videos alone and never visit the studio if I could. I’d recommend anyone TRY it but I’d also say that $160 a month for their classes is overpriced because the studio isn’t even available to you the entire day. The schedule is so spotty.

Basecamp will cancel your reservation 10 hours before a class even though they say individuals need to cancel 12+ hours before. Beware before you book a class because they might not let you attend.

I started taking Basecamp classes two years ago after not exercising for several years. I found the workouts and coaches to be very accommodating for all fitness levels. There is a sense of community that I haven’t found at other gyms.

Manager, Olivia, and fitness manager, Abby, run a fun, welcoming and professional fitness environment/studio. I highly recommend this succinct, challenging, and easy to follow workout - simple to modify to one’s strength and endurance level - for all shapes, sizes and fitness levels.

The workouts are well planned and the coaches are fantastic. Some of the equipment is a bit dated, especially the bikes which all need new seats. The latest classes offered are at 6 p.m. (5:30 p.m. most days), which makes it difficult, if not impossible to attend when working downtown or anywhere where traffic is a concern after getting off work.
If they offered later classes, I would give a higher score.
Update: I edited my original comment as it was too negative. Basecamp offers a great workout if you can make the class times

basecamp has been a blessing for my mental and physical health! I found this place through being a member of the Germantown Chamber of Commerce, and attending their ribbon cutting ceremony. I thought it looked so cool I had to give it a try, and I still think its the best decision I've ever made. The staff care about every member and takes the time to get to know everyone. I've never felt so welcomed at a gym! I'm NEVER leaving.

SPAM! This place does nothing but SPAM their customers! DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR INFORMATION!!!!
Literally, this place got my number at random and will not stop texting me about their free classes. I do not want a free class. I don’t want this gym contacting me every day.
This is what I get sent almost daily, from different numbers so it’s impossible to block Basecamp Fitness! I get the same message with a different trainers name.
