I have been attending classes at Chestnut Hill Yoga for the past 10-months. I very much appreciate the cuing, the specificity of attention to anatomical structures in each yoga posture. Paying attention to the body in this way is challenging and enlivening.

An absolutely phenomenal studio. The least pretentious, most welcoming, warming studio Iβve visited in my 15+ years practicing. Iβve always practiced Vinyasa but wanted to give Iyengar a try due to medical reasons. This was VERY different from Vinyasa with no flows so I recommend researching Iyengar before taking a class if you love a flow class.
Gentle Yoga with Becky was magic. She gave detailed cues with multiple alternatives based on various injuries, checked in with everyone by name, asked me several times (directly and by name) how I was doing, really just above and beyond.
I am now a Chestnut student for life.

I went to Iyengar Yoga for Women with Aretha and it was a practice like I've never experienced before. She was funny, patient, and helpful as it was my first time doing this class. Definitely recommend to try out if you are in the area!

Only place in town that's not all hot yoga (since Steadfast closed), which is disgusting to me. So that gives it 5 stars. However I wish they had some vinyasa flow classes. They have 1 weekly Ashtanga class but haven't been able to make it due to work. The Inyegar (or whatever) is nice and great for alignment, but just doesnt feel like a full yoga class without the flow.

If youβre looking to advance your practice with compassionate, skilled instructors I highly recommend Chestnut Hill Yoga. I started with Iyengar 2 then finished with Iyengar 4 and truly appreciate the attention to detail during cuing and personalized instruction in the group setting. Next time Iβm in Nashville, Iβll be back!
Thank you Aretha, for a blissful experience.

I was visiting Nashville, for a week and I treated myself with 7 amazing Iyengar classes, I had 5 different teachers.
Classes where from Iyengar 1 to Iyengar 4 and all levels.
Each teacher is unique, but they all have the same core value of Iyengar yoga.
Feeling Refreshed with the study, practice and teachings of yoga.
Namaste!

Teachers share their tenured knowledge of iyengar yoga and they communicate clearly about the body and physiology. They have a humble sense of self and are not at all judgemental. The space is great, it's a good setting for honoring one's body by doing the work.

Truly the ONLY yoga studio I will ever need. Aretha and her professional team are the perfect mix. However you LEARN or whatever YOU NEED TO WORK ON - she has the instructor/time of day for you. I would drive any distance (if this was further from my home) to get the knowledge, joy, and self care this studio provides me.

Great space for yoga, lots of open windows and fans to keep fresh air circulating. Students and teachers practice safely using masks and keeping safe distances.

This place is transformational. Aretha and the other instructors are very knowledgeable and encouraging. I feel so empowered after I finish a class. Aretha is very detailed and has a great "eye" to help you meet your maximum level of accessibility. Using props is not viewed as a weakness but rather an extension of one's own body. Each class has been an awesome experience.

I enjoyed four classes with Aretha - the studio owner - while I was home with family at the holidays. Iβve traditionally studied (and teach) Vinyasa, and the Iyengar practice is new to me. Aretha's Level 1 and Level 2 classes are well-designed and equipped for beginners to gain familiarity with the discipline. Her teaching has made me curious to continue exploring Iyengar. Knowing that she recently relocated and built this brand new space, I can see the intentionality behind the space she created. Recommendation to curious newcomers: arrive early, take time to introduce yourself and settle in to their community, and let the learnings from the practice slowly come to you.

I've been to probably 30% of the yoga studios in Nashville, and this one is my clear favorite. This will teach you the fundamentals of proper alignment and will allow you to take your practice to any other studio in town. Do yourself a favor and try one class. My hips haven't been this open in years.

For beginners or those of a "certain age" nothing tops the "Gentle Yoga" sessions at The Iyengar Yoga Center. The instructor, Becky, meets you where you are, whether it's low back pain, tight hamstrings or a stiff shoulder, she has the wisdom, access to props and sense of humor to guide you through an enjoyable and productive session.

This is a wonderful yoga studio and a gleaming gem in the garland of many fine Nashville yoga studios. The teachers are all high quality and have studied the philosophy and practice of yoga for many years. They are expert at helping both beginners and advanced students and working with injuries and other restrictions so that everyone can practice yoga safely and effectively. Each student is treated as an individual and therefore classes are targeted to the particular needs and level of the student. Because of the depth of the teachings handed down by B.K.S Iyengar and the Iyengar family, the approach to yoga taught at the Iyengar Yoga Center of Nashville is transformative, poetic and inspired.

I continue to return to this well equipped Iyengar yoga studio. I enjoyed the talented staff and the amazing rope wall and great feedback on how to improve my inversions and other yoga poses. Having feedback about my yoga alignment is something I greatly value. There are great workshops and an Iyengar yoga teaching program. New participants are always welcomed at this yoga studio.

I love this WONDERFUL studio and have been practicing there since the day it opened. The Director and faculty are superb (all are certified). I admire their dedication to the IYENGAR tradition and their own yoga practices. All levels of classes are taught with humility, compassion and total understanding of body types and physical limitations. If you are looking for a stimulating, safe, supportive practice in an inviting environment (together with a community of terrific students) this is the place to go!!!

When I learned that I have mild osteoporosis several years ago, my sister-in-law sent me a New York Times article on the benefits of yoga for increasing bone density. She is a yoga teacher in western Massachusetts (although not an Iyengar teacher), and she researched studios in Nashville and recommended 12South to me, saying that it is hands-down the best yoga studio in Nashville. I began yoga as a way to strengthen my bones, but the benefits I have gained have far exceeded my original reason. Not only my bones, but my strength, my flexibility, and my inner self/spirituality have all improved so much. I canβt imagine practicing yoga anywhere else. The teachers are extremely knowledgeable, patient, and helpful, and there is a wonderful camaraderie among the students. I felt like I belonged there from the very first time I stepped in the door.I recommend 12South Yoga MOST enthusiastically!

Cassie OβSullivan is an amazing Iyengar yoga instructor.
I have been studying with Cassie for about 4 years and I still learn something new in every class. When I first started studying with Cassie, I was in so much back and shoulder pain that it was interfering with my daily routine. Cassie showed me ways to modify my yoga poses and my general posture. Within months, the pain in my lower back was completely gone. This is pain I have been experiencing for 30 years. I still have occasional mild pain in my shoulder due to scoliosis, but not like it was before. And Cassie is still teaching me poses that reduce that pain and improve the health of my spine. I always leave class in less pain than when I arrived.
While I am partial to how Cassie teaches, all the instructors at Iyengar Center of Nashville are amazing. The studio is equipped with a lovely rope wall and all the props that make it a safe experience for both beginner and advanced students.
I have been a student of Iyengar Yoga for about 20 years and have taken classes at many studios both in Nashville and other cities, Iyengar Center of Nashville is my favorite.

I have been practicing at this studio for the last thirteen years. All the teachers are wonderful. I've practiced regularly over the years with Rachel, Aretha, and Paige. Every teacher there is caring, attentive and supportive of their students. I started practicing due to back pain, and thanks to Iyengar yoga and the spectacular teachers at 12S Yoga, I've been able to take care of my back and build the strength and flexibility needed to avoid injury. If you want to really learn the asanas and be able to practice safely at home, I would highly recommend Iyengar and this studio. They will also help you adapt poses so that this really is yoga for any body.

I have been practicing yoga at Iyengar Yoga Center of Nashville over a year now and love it. My teacher Paige Seals is absolutely wonderful, always makes you feel like you belong there and can be funny too!She pays close attention to each student and shows how each body behaves differently, and how to make adjustments for your particular body (I have always been flexible but Paige showed me that can make it harder to do some of the poses correctly). I love all the props, the rope wall and trying new poses. Always love going to class!

The Iyengar Center of Nashville is the best yoga center I have found for both beginners and as a compliment to a flow practice. There is not another place in Nashville where you will get the foundational instruction needed for a safe and strong practice. Aretha McKinney is the most knowledge teacher in the area of anatomy and therapeutic yoga I have ever encountered. She is a top choice for anyone starting or continuing yoga following an injury. Nashville is so fortunate to have such a senior level Iyengar instructor in our city.

I definitely recommend this yoga studio. The atmosphere and teachers are wonderful. I have only been going for a couple of years, but these classes have been very instructive and fulfilling. Aretha is a great instructor and her classes are challenging but I always leave feeling better than when I entered!

This is a studio that you have to experience to really appreciate how special it is. I have been practicing yoga for many years and have tried every style out there. My friend Paige Seals teaches on Sundays, so I tried a class. I was so impressed. The depth of knowledge, individual attention, and the understanding of how to create a space of calm and openness just blew me away. I have gained a deeper understanding of mind and body that grows with each class. We are so lucky to have this studio here in Nashville.

I started yoga with this studio just a little more than a year ago at the recommendation of a friend. I had just been diagnosed with osteoporosis and had some ongoing back muscle issues. I quickly found out just how tight all of my muscles were! I have had the pleasure of classes with at least 5 of the instructors and have enjoyed all of them. They are all very talented and have instructing styles that compliment one another. Everyone is always welcomed!

The minute I entered the Iyengar Yoga Center of Nashville I felt at home. Being a student of Iyengar yoga for many years on the west coast, I was apprehensive about finding a studio in my new city. I was so happy to find this studio with excellent teachers, a beautiful space and a most welcoming, friendly environment. I love it here and recommend anyone interested in yoga to come and experience the great benefits of Iyengar yoga.

I highly recommend The Iyengar Yoga Studio at 12 South. They have excellent teachers who are expertly trained and compassionate. My favorite teacher is Aretha McKinney; her classes are challenging, informative and always enlightening. She is the best teacher I have ever had the pleasure of working with. And she's got a wonderful sense of humor. I would give the center 10 stars, but this scale only goes to 5!

I've been practicing at this studio for over 15 years. All of the teachers are Iyengar certified and have helped me so much to overcome physical obstacles such as having 2 knee replacements during these past 15 years. Being a 65 year old still working full time, the Iyengar yoga practice has helped me while striving for an emotional stability in my life. I can't say enough about all the teachers associated with this studio. Do yourself a favor - drop in for a class or two. They offer classes 7 days a week for all levels! bebe

I love this place! New people are welcomed, and the atmosphere is very calming and peaceful. The teachers are really exceptional. I had tried a yoga class in another city before, and it was nowhere near the level of teaching I get here. Things are explained really well so that there is no confusion and you get a solid foundation to develop on. The rates are very reasonable. I look forward to my classes here all week long. Great place for beginner classes if you've been wanting to try yoga. Get a class with Aretha if you can!
