I have truly enjoyed being a member here for several years. There is a large variety of classes, good for all levels. They have recently added Pilates reformers which is wonderful to have in a class setting and more affordable than private lessons. All of the instructors are very knowledgeable and willing to work with your skill level and modifications. There are several options for memberships so it is easy to find what works best with your schedule. Rachel and Nick have really done a wonderful job creating such a welcoming space for our community.

50+ self-proclaimed coach potato here. I stay over-scheduled and overly stressed. I had yoga suggested by more than one person during my life and thought, meh...it's complicated, don't you have to know how to do all that stuff before going in? Worried about going to class and being embarrassed because everyone knows things you don't, yada, yada. Life happens and then you realize that you need....something. I found the candlelight class and thought it sounded interesting. I figured if I didn't like anything else, the environment would have to be relaxing. Here is my review: Go! Don't analyze it if you are new to yoga, don't think you are flexible,
sign up...and...just...go! Instructor gives very good directions, the vibe is not intimidating at all, you learn as you go. There is no drug on the planet that could have made me feel like I did after that class. My mind was shut off and I hadn't been able to achieve that in well, years. I left walking back to my car thinking about nothing and it...was...glorious! Slept like a rock, zero stress getting up the next morning. So if you are thinking about it, just go! 10/10.

I thought about trying yoga many times in the past and decided to attend classes at Downtown Yoga Center Johnson City. When I enter the building, the staff is so friendly and warm, I feel at home. The atmosphere creates a peace that you can obtain and take with you into the rest of your day. Give it a try, check out the studio, and do something wonderful for your mind and body!

What a gem! I was visiting family in Johnson City for the week and wasn't expecting to find a yoga studio with so many different types of classes. Since I didn't expect to be taking yoga while in TN, I didn't bring a mat or yoga clothes. They had yoga mat loaners for FREE, which is helpful for any traveler or beginning yoga student.
Classes I took--
Tuesday slow flow with massage balls taught by Kay. She was an excellent instructor and we focused on stretching and rolling the mid-back. How did she know this was my problem area? I highly recommend this class if you have tight areas in your body because the yoga balls help as a type of pressure point therapy.
Wednesday was candlelight yin with Sandra. She was a sub, and she did an excellent job integrating postures that the participants in the class needed. Like my hips that are so sore from traveling. Longer held postures to go deep into the connective tissue. Bliss.
Thursday was restorative yoga with ropes taught by Tereza. She asked what the participants wanted to focus on, and she delivered. I loved how she themed her class, and the 60 minutes flew by. By the end of class the stiffness in my hips was gone, and now I'm ready to travel home tomorrow.
Finally, to support their community, I bought a cute branded yoga tank. Now when I go home to the west coast, I will still be sharing their yoga love. Namaste y'all!

Amazing instructors that meet you where you are while also providing an encouraging environment to try the next step. I have found community among the members that Downtown Yoga Cemter fosters. Attending multiple times a week over the past year has been pivotal in my scoliosis treatment.

The perfect studio! Excellent teachers and a variety of classes, all in a beautiful space. One of the studios is setup with Iyengar-style wall ropes, a rare find in any city, let alone one as small as Johnson City. The prices are incredibly fair and the New Student Special is one of the best I've ever seen. I've been practicing here for one year and it feels like a real yoga community.

The membership price is very reasonable. I've tried many instructors, and they are all great. I also like with the membership you have the option to store your mat there so you don't have to carry it.
Convenient location.

Since my old review got taken down I am rating it again. I spent $2000 dollars to get certified in yoga. I took all the classes, practiced, observed, demo classes, and turned in all the paperwork and surveys. I did everything Kim Blane asked me to and she still would not certify me. She accused me of lying and cheating on my paperwork when the instructors signed it saying I did it. She also accused me of taking a yoga mat when I didn’t. She shunned me every time I tried to ask a question and had an attitude towards me. I’m not sure if she is still there or not but I’m NEVER going back. What happened to me was not cool and I didn’t deserve it. I hope everyone else has a better experience than I did.

If you are looking for a genuine yogi experience, this is the best yoga studio in the area. You can sign up online for all classes and I LOVE the live stream. I have practiced yoga for many years, but this was the first time I liked a studio so much that I started going regularly. I have had such a great experience and have been able to grow not only my yoga poses, strength and flexibility, but have been able to expand my meditation and chakra healing practices. Thank you for helping me grow my body, mind and soul.

DYC has an amazing variety and availability of classes.I always leave class feeling refreshed, renewed, and challenged. Modifications are offered so that you can practice at your individual level of skill, and there's a class here for everyone, from beginner to advanced!. The studio is such a beautiful space - the music, essential oils, and interior design create an inviting and serene place to practice. The studio is part of the fabric of the JC community too, offering donation-based classes to support local nonprofits, providing scholarships for Black yogi teacher training, and always engaging in downtown JC events. We are lucky to have DYC here!

I was visiting from Austin and my back was feeling crunchy. Took the 9am flow + yin class right before I had to fly home and it was just what my back needed! The instructor really challenged us, gave clear verbal cues, and gave great hands-on adjustments to those of us that wanted them. The class finished with some longer yin poses - great compliment to the stronger poses at the beginning of the class. The studio itself is beautiful - floor to ceiling windows in a loft-style space. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in Johnson City!

My sister and I attended a class taught by Cassie. The staff was very friendly and the facility was beautiful. The class lasted about an hour . It was our first time in a yoga class and everyone was welcoming. The classes are small but very enjoyable. Will definitely be returning! It was a wonderful experience.
