Frank looking to come back

I began here in 2021 at 43 years old. I've always struggled to make it to gyms to work out because of laziness, but I have stuck with this for 4 years and I have never been fitter. I was too fat to wear some of my gear when I started, a couple months later the fat melted away.

To be perfectly clear, these classes are 1.5 hours of intense cardio, for anyone interested. 30 minutes of warmup, then the class

Coach Eppolito keeps us motivated not only in fitness, but teaches us valuable life lessons. I have added extra steps like pushups between rounds to increase my fitness, and make extra effort to eat healthy. I wish I had started years before I did

sorry this is not a review but would this be a good gym to go to to learn for a beginner...Im an active 20 year old male but have no idea how to box wondering if this gym would teach or train a clueless beginner like myself?

Great gym all around to say the least! Frank was very inspiring and the guy he had helping with training was amazing. Took the time to explain things and pushed us to our limit. Doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or advanced fighter they seem to know what they are doing. 10/10 recommend

I am going to preface this with three things, 1. I never write reviews, but this experience warrants one, 2. I've boxed for over 6 years and know there are different styles taught, etc. And 3. As part of that, I have both experienced and witnessed criticism given to students, and have never had an issue with it.

I called Eppolitos before going to a class to get information since there is no website or social media presence with any information. I spoke with Frank, who wasn't friendly, and explained I'd belonged to a boxing gym before and recently moved/ saw his gym was the only one in Knoxville. It felt like pulling teeth to get class times and pricing, which should have been my first red flag.

On to class. I arrived and he seemed agitated I was there and barely took time to explain how he runs class. He also informed me he usually only does new people on Thursdays (perhaps mention that to someone when she calls or maybe even have a website).

However, I found out you run outside for a while and then jump rope, until he tells you to stop. This lasted for 30 minutes plus out of the hour and a half long class. Nearly half of the class arrived late and it felt poorly run.

During the bag work phase of class, he went over 8 to 10 punches/footwork to do and told everyone to do it over the next several rounds. He then did mits, and yelled at almost everyone for not listening. I've never been to a gym where the trainer doesn't give instruction in steps that are built on over each round. It makes it easier on all experience levels, and is just a better way to teach.

Frank took the time to correct other students, but when he got to me, he didn't work with me at all to correct what I did wrong and just walked away annoyed. At this point, I also felt like he was being discriminatory against me. I happen to be pregnant and haven't missed a boxing class almost all year until I moved in the last week. Perhaps that was part of his issue, but I've never been to any gym where a person, let alone the owner, was so wildly dismissive, unkind, and unhelpful. I was SO excited about this gym too, but it was incredibly disappointing to go and be met with a disfunctionally run class by a very rude man. I'd leave a zero star review if that was possible.

The best boxing gym around!! Great for all experience levels. Coach Frank does an amazing job. I enjoyed the 5:30am classes for a more private session and also the evening class for a good night workout and a few more people to spar with. After moving out of Knoxville, I've been unsuccessful in finding a gym anywhere near the same caliber or vibe as Eppolito's. Highly recommend for anyone looking to train and get a good workout in. You may even see a few UT players or professionals while you're there ;)

If you are looking for a fun way to get fit, this is the place, in the past two months working with this boxing gym, my stamina and endurance has increased, I've lost weight and increased definition in certain areas all while learning a great sport. This is not like the other boxing gym's in Knoxville, you learn everything from proper form, footwork, defense and offense. This is not a "just hitting a bag only". His training is a HIIT level, and everyone does it. The people have all been friendly and courteous, from all walks of life and age. HIGHLY recommend

I am a 4-2 champion amateur female mma fighter, going pro this year and I have boxed in the amateur and done Muay Thai as well and coach frank knows his stuff. I specifically seek him out when I come here from Colorado to train with him because I improve every time we train.

Similarly, I recently brought my family to include my mom and siblings who are extreme beginners in even just fitness and he made them feel extremely comfortable and welcome. USA boxing is the only way to go for boxing, and he has it there.

I’m beyond thankful for coach and his family for helping me become a better striker and enjoy the boxing side of mma. Highly recommend this gym.

Highly recommend. Coach Eppolito has had over 100 sanctioned fights and 50 years of experience. The clientele is a mix of competitors and business professionals that want to be fit (light or no contact). Very glad I decided to give this gym a shot!

Best thing about Eppolito's is that it is an actual boxing gym, unlike some in the area. They teach you how to fight here. The owner is very professional. My first day was yesterday. I will join soon.

Frank Eppolito is a former amateur boxer. He is a former car salesman. He is a former United States Marine. Frank Eppolito in his retirement has decided to become a boxing coach because he has a passion for the sport of boxing. But passion and love of the sport does not equate to the knowledge needed to teach. I entered the gym two months ago as an over-weight 33 year old female who wanted to learn boxing as a form of stress relief. I had never participated in any type of sports of any kind. I did not know the culture of sport much less the specific culture of boxing. Without getting into specifics (anyone who would like to know specifics can contact me), Frank comes off as a wonderful guy unless you disagree with him. Many patrons to his gym will only see the charismatic side of the owner, but there is a side where he is disrespectful to females and will demasculate men. All because it is his business. While I am sure he had to go through some training to get a USA boxing certification, it takes many years of studing and honing your craft to be able to teach and communicate the reasons why or how to properly execute the craft. This training he does not posses. What he is, is an proud man who is an ex marine, a car salesman, a former fighter who is trying to establish a boxing gym. While you may read my review and say this sounds like someone who just didn't like their experience, I encourage you to do your research. Go speak to Frank. Then go speak to someone who is trained to teach boxing. Watch his videos posted on YouTube of his fights. Watch a professional teachers videos of their fights. Take Frank up on his free class. Ask him the difficult questions of why/how things are done and listen to his answers. Go to a professional boxing teacher and ask the same questions. There is a world of difference in the answers. I didn't do my due delligence in the beginning. Over the last couple of days I have. I encourage everyone to do their due delligence and educate themselves.
