Very dirty! From the elevator to the 2nd floor gym, the condition of this location is extremely poor. The level of grime and buildup was alarming. I cannot believe that the YMCA has teen staff and their lifeguards tasked with cleaning. These poor kids are not cleaners, nor are they given the proper products/materials and/or equipment to properly clean this facility. The bathrooms were filthy with pooled up brown sludge water near some of the drains, partition walls had buildup, glass was smudgy and filthy. The countertops had hair and gunk buildup. While this location is not as awful as the Bartlett location, it needs serious renovations, cleanup and disinfection. 🤢

The staff there is top notch. I walked in originally just to get a tour of the facilities and possibly get a membership. The facilities are more than what I expected but what really sold me was the customer service and friendliness of the staff. The manager Carlton took good care of us and the rep Ciara was very knowledgeable of everything and took her time when showing us what this location had to offer. Long story short I walked out with a membership for me and my girlfriend. I would recommend anyone to come here and sign up. Awesome facilities ran by even more awesome people!

Don’t open membership in YMCA Memphis & Mid South! They care only how to charge you more and more. You can not change or cancel your membership without visiting them or sending a certified letter. I moved to another state and didnt know its gonna be such a fight to cancel my membership! I sent them letter and they got it July 7th. Today is July 18th, after my 2 calls to their office they said they dont see my letter and dont see cancellation on my membership, thats all they can say. And for sure they gonna stretch time to charge next billing cycle, and one more, cause they need “30 day notice” Ridiculous!

Carlton was the most polite person ever! Bathrooms were the cleanest and had the freshest scent i ever smelled. They were very clean and professional. The main lobby was welcoming. Swimming area was lovely and the workout gym was perfect! I love the Y! I will most definitely be back!

The Downtown YMCA has potential, but the air quality here is a serious problem. Not only are the spray bottles full of harsh, chemical-laden cleaners, but the building is filled with artificial fragrance boxes pumping out toxic scents in the elevators, halls, and common areas. It’s overwhelming and unnecessary.

For a place that’s supposed to promote health and wellness, it’s ridiculous to be constantly exposed to synthetic chemicals just by walking around or trying to clean a machine. These air fresheners and sprays may seem minor to some, but they make it really uncomfortable for anyone sensitive to chemicals—or just trying to avoid breathing in irritants during a workout.

Please rethink what you’re filling the air with. Clean shouldn’t come at the cost of our health.

It’s a gym with 95% quality workout equipment, and a terrible, and disrespectful customer experience. Didn’t try the pool. Sauna and steam rooms are hardly working in the morning when I went. When the steam room wasn’t working I opened the door and the mold smell was disgusting. Terrible customer service but they’ll be nice to get you to pay for membership. There is no regular extensive cleaning of sauna and steam rooms or locker rooms. Lockers have all kinds of nasty dusty stuff that’s not cleaned out regularly. They have a cancellation request policy to where when you cancel you will still pay for an additional month and will not be refunded no matter what even if you have not attended. That’s the biggest crap of all. I will never EVER think about or recommend this place to anyone or for myself again. I’ll stick to my hometown gym with real customer service even though the equipment has seen better days. That’s what I wanted to find was better equipment!! And this place has it! The customer experience is a rip. They will not do you right as their customer paying $53 dollars a month, plus the extra month charge for cancellation. I get it as a businessman but I just can’t respect that unhonest business.

Poorly managed. Something is always broken. As I type this, the men's steamroom has been out of order for 3 weeks. The whirlpool has just been fixed after being down over a month. The only selling point this place has had over the cheaper places has been its wet areas, and now these don't work.
Frankly, the management is just full of bs talk when approached about the problems. They say nothing but fluff, especially the head guy (Joe?). When I joined 12 years ago this place was well managed and had more amenities. There was even a towel service and a nice lounge area and lots of locker space (all gone now). It has gone badly downhill in the past 4 years, everything from the surly lazy acting woman at the front desk in the early morning who doesn't speak, to the poorly done "renovation"(which shut down the place for nearly a year yet had made the member experience worse when reopened) to the aforementioned perpetual ill repair of the shower and wet area. Membership has noticeably dropped, and it's no wonder.

Worth Gym ever I had a bad experience in it. Today I went with my 9 years old daughterand my son 13 years old , First, when my daughter was Changing her clothes lifeguard was watching her, and I looked at him then he stopped looking 2nd at the pool was a punch of teenager was there splashing water all over ppl outside while playing and the lifeguard didn’t do nothing about it until I talked to him and I told him to stop them flashing us with the water, few min after they use a foam tube and start hitting the water with it again and making loud noise go in my daugtger lane she get scared so I ask her to leave. Manager was so nice can't complain about him but staff and lifeguard really wasn't happy with there service and the way they manage the situation. Long story short not a good place to go.

We enjoy the indoor swimming pool and the sauna! Right now the women’s swirl pool is under maintenance so haven’t tried that yet!

Have been visiting this location for a couple of years. The rates are pretty standard for a Y and also for gyms in the area. They have memberships based on income also. Lockers, showers, changing stalls, amenities, classes are free. There are virtual ones I've not tried. Occasional seminars, support great things in the community. Plenty of clean restrooms, fountains have bottle refill. In house trainers are reasonable prices. Child care options. Equipment help when needed, orientation on them if needed. Plenty of equipment cleaning supplies. Members are respectful on phone etiquette, equipment use, Y guidelines and cleanliness.

There is a membership option to use other locations, even nationwide. I do visit the Y in other states. I think they also have 'try us free', 'bring a friend' and other options so just ask. Nice open lobby with reading materials, bright workout spaces with plenty of windows. Wi-fi, app with classes. Indoor walking track, rooftop for stretching, chilling or eating your snack. Snack machine on locker room level.

Parking, there is street parking by meter (get the app for discounts). There are some vehicle parking and handicap parking that is free next to the building. There is bicycle parking, lock your own. They are near a trolley stop. Lot parking, the lot is used by other than the Y. Y members buy a parking pass for $75/year unlimited which is $0.24/day (figuring the Y is open 6 days/52 weeks a year. It is just across an alley via a walkway to the Y. The lot is lit and enters off the next street. Have never had a concern all time of day for a couple years. The lot use greatly reduces the hassle of finding a parking spot, parking is a normal issue of downtown life so in my case the lot is appreciated. The fee is not required.

Coffee shops nearby. Not a part of the Y but after my Saturday workout I like to visit Boycott Coffee. Memphis Chess Club also has coffee.

I enjoy the indoor track that is at this location. Spacing is nice and it’s not overly crowded when I go. Everyone is there with a purpose and you can focus on that purpose without disturbance. Locker rooms are very spacious and are equipped with a sauna to relax after a nice workout session!

The Folgeman YMCA has updated workout machines and Free weights. YMCA Folgeman also has three (3) amenities necessary for my Overall Peace of mind, Body pampering and Total physical revitalization, they are the Steam room, Sauna and the Whirlpool. Excellent 💯👍🏾🙏🏾.

If you plan on visiting or getting a membership for this YMCA beware they have little to no parking for their members. A lot across the street marked for the Y is available to you, but only at a $75 cost. This is not included in your already high membership fees. Your car will be booted and will only be removed at a cost to you. The Y will have no sympathy or do anything. You will also have to wait 30 minutes for someone to remove it. It’s extremely disheartening to see the world become concerned with nothing but money.

The equipment at the Fogleman Y is really nice since the renovation: squat racks and platforms, good bumper plates, CrossFit area, pickle ball court, sauna, etc. But the best part of the experience they’re is the nice folks at the front desk. Always there to greet you with a smile, they are cheerful and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Visited from out of town and worked out for three days here. What a nice place! Everything you need and the staff couldn't have been nicer. (Shout out to Facilities Manager Charles and Brendan- hope I got that right.) The staff made us feel at home and when they weren't as busy they were cleaning! I registered my daughter here for swimming with the intention of getting her on the swim team, I even bought a membership to support the YMCA. In one month of swim lessons she was moved to swim team with telling us (we found out when we were told we were very late for swim team when we arrived for lessons), then told she wasn't ready to be on swim team unless she could swim 50 yards (instead of the post 25), then the swim team was disbanded without informing us, and we have yet to be communicated with after several phone calls and voicemails as to what can be done to brought her to swim team level since she is advanced past the available swim lessons. The center is unable to communicate effectively in addition to the renovations which surely will look beautiful, the incorrect signs posted in the building which causes the staff to literally run after you yelling telling you you cannot do something. I'm baffled that correct signs cannot be posted and that this is the solution. Membership is cancelled after 30 days because it shouldn't be this difficult to communicate with your patrons.

Great Y and clean most of the time! But you can also feel the tension and animosity with the staff whether attitudes, drama or problems that can be easily solved and addressed, but instead it becomes larger and grows because it is not nipped in the bud. I truly believe guest and members should not be made aware of the issues that the staff have going on. Workers (especially) management need to work on attitudes and display of emotions when feeling overwhelmed and stressed. Also, far as communication with members, some are great at it others are not with their tone or responses to guest and visitors. Front desk workers are usually welcoming unless they feel pressured or pressed by the management. Kids corner staff are very welcoming and friendly whether you are dropping kids off or just stopping by to speak and have a conversation with the workers in kids corner. The wellness/fitness floor is usually clean and equipment is readily available if you are there during the less busiest hours. The locker room is clean, shower is usually mopped and swept during the day; except the whirlpool being cleaned the water is usually mirky and dark especially during the busiest hours due to not showering before entering the whirlpool. Workout classes are fun especially if you get to know the instructors. Overall you feel at home at the Y, but it also need improvements mostly concerning the staff (management) other than that it is a great place to workout and fellowship.
