I was finally able to reach a general manager who heard my concerns and was very professional and understanding. The staffing issues seem to have been resolved and there is a consistent presence at the front desk now. Therefore I have changed my review to 4 stars instead of 2. I will leave my original review below however, for documentation.

Unfortunately I am having to leave this review after not having much of a choice, because I am not able to contact any manager to complain or resolve my issue.

It's currently September 2025. I've been going to this gym since opening day, 2 or 3 summers ago.

Increasingly they have had staffing issues. It's now at its worst. I have not been able to use the tanning services for more than 2 weeks now, despite being at the gym 4 days a week. I'm usually there between 2pm and 4pm. I like to get a tan in at least once a week after my workout. I haven't been able to do so because there is literally no staff at the desk. I have seen a staff member walk around while I was lifting, but never at the front desk when I need them.

If I try to call the store and speak with someone, no one answers.

I am currently trying to contact a general manager by calling the Nashville locations - who actually answer the phone - and having them reach out to a general manager, to have them call me back. This is the only thing I can think of.

Like many others in Memphis, this one is going downhill fast. It seems like par for the course for this city, where everything is broken and nobody does a thing about it.

It's really sad because I like this Gym a lot. But this isn't the only thing that's been decreasing in quality... it's just that not being able to find a staff member and use the services that I pay for is kind of the last straw for me.

I will be joining Crunch or another gym if this doesn't get resolved.

The general manager or whoever it was called my place of business and harassed me and my coworker on the phone then came in person and was still talking sideways. How do you want us to help you and then speak to someone like you don't want their help or services. He was extremely rude. I'm a member at Gold's and have been one for almost 2 years. He made me want to cancel my membership. I'm not sure if that's his personality but I along with my coworker was offended. The gym has gone down tremendously and I no wonder if he's the cause.

What has happened here in the last month? This place has gone down tremendously! I worked out here on a free pass and talked to a previous manager, Tony. The gym looked beautiful, the atmosphere was impressive, and the staff was friendly. Now the new manager is rude and the place is a disaster. Equipment is broke and the new guy, Griffin, isn’t answering my questions. I was fully prepared to get on a family plan today. Now, I’m going Crunch in Southaven. This place has went down extremely fast.

On 9/25/25, a white male staff member in a blue shirt repeatedly circled me while I worked out, which was intrusive and uncomfortable. Another guest was left waiting at the front desk during this time. Staff cannot stalk Black women and run a business smoothly at the same time—something will always suffer. That intrusive presence makes workouts uncomfortable. Broken machines sitting for months literally narrow your options and ramp up stress—privacy zones disappear. It signals misplaced priorities: staff energy goes into watching, not maintaining.

The parking situation at this gym is terrible. The new entrance design is unsafe and creates a real hazard for members. Having only one way in and out is not acceptable—it causes congestion, confusion, and makes the lot dangerous to navigate. Whoever made that decision did not think it about it thoroughly because who puts an entrance across from another entrance along with it being right at the peak of crossing a railroad track. This needs to be addressed immediately for the safety and convenience of everyone who uses the facility. Also, please fix things that need to be fixed. It takes them months almost a year to fix things. Unacceptable. Please address or this gym will go down hill in Memphis.

Great first visit—friendly and welcoming!
I’ve only been to this gym once so far, but it made a fantastic first impression. The facility was clean, spacious, and had a great range of equipment.

A special shoutout to Ashley, who helped me with a guest pass. She was incredibly friendly, patient, and made the process super easy. She set the tone for a really welcoming experience.

The gym is supposed to open at 5am M-F. They fail to do this 2-3 days a week. They will open it up around 6am (if not later). Terrible for people who have to go before work- go elsewhere, not worth it.

They make it a hassle to cancel your membership which is frustrating because I wouldn’t be canceling if the club was kept in better condition. I assumed a higher monthly fee would mean that the equipment would be kept in better condition. A lot of the padding is in similar or worse condition as the seat in picture I included.

Excellent facility with top-of-the-line equipment. The staff is friendly and the space itself is clean and modern. However; the locker room is regularly shut down for cleaning during peak hours - sometimes for upwards of 30 minutes. This means I have to wait - along with several other people - before I can access my locker and leave. It is incredibly inconvenient and disruptive to the flow of my routine. While I understand the need for cleanliness, this is a serious scheduling issue that the gym needs to address. If they can find a way to implement a better system that doesn’t interrupt so many members, this gym would be perfect.

Golds is a professional gym annd is well worth the time effort annd money to be there. Alas, due to work and family changes and the Biden/Harris economy, I I m leaving Golds. It’s not due to anything wrong with Golds. I was a member in LA Hollywood and now Memphis. Over the past year, Golds has upgraded its professional staff with managers from Los Angeles and constant training of employeesLIt’s too bad that competition for workout is so stiff in Memphis. Dollar for dollar Golds is the best in town. The machines are exceptional and directed at specific muscle groups. If you want to date - or try to - go to Crunch. It’s crowed and filled with people you will only see once. Any gym offering a 10 cent introduction, isn’t worth a nickel. If you want to be surrounded by beautiful serious athletes - join Golds! You won’t regret it.

Harassed by two of the employees, one was a “trainer” named Ebony and the other was a young guy whose name I was unable to get before I left. I filed multiple complaints with management about Ebony and nothing was done. She continued to harass me up until I left the gym completely.

Going with 3 stars here.. first I’ll say the gym is everything you would ever want and more.. for the most part the staff is great minus the few times a young lady was to into her phone to even notice my existence. But unfortunately I no longer feel safe here. Multiple trucks have been broken into. Like all the time. There is seemingly nothing being done to protect the members and our property. Basically being told welcome to Memphis. So as per design I’m stuck paying for a Membership they won’t let me get out of and I refuse to go subject myself to property damage. SMH. Such a great thing yet again ruined by Memphis.

6 vehicles broken into at noontime. Security guard was in parking lot and did nothing - not even getting a license plate or running the criminals off after one or two vehicles. You can’t stay in business at this location if you cannot secure the parking lot better than this. One victim today filed his report with police and then went inside to cancel his membership.

If you are looking for a gym membership- I would steer clear of Gold’s as they are absolutely impossible to cancel with. I moved back in April, and did my due diligence of notifying them in person before I moved. I understand that management has changed since April, but that is not my issue as I did my due diligence. I have called back numerous times and spoke with Eddie, the new GM as well as other staff and have been given the run around since end of May. I called back a week and a half ago and spoke with Eddie who informed me that everything is taken care of, so why am I still getting charged?? I understand that management has changed, but that’s not my issue. They seem to be very incompetent. I understand that you all need to keep memberships to hit your monthly bonuses, but not doing your job of cancelling memberships and fees when you said you would is not only unprofessional but unethical. This is absolutely ridiculous. The gym is overpriced for what it is and the staff is always rude. I wonder if upper management is aware of how poorly their clubs are run or if they even care? Called again this afternoon after my account was charged AGAIN after being told it was cancelled. Spoke with Cam who was actually polite and helpful, and he left another note for Eddie the GM who can’t seem to get his gym together.
If you’re looking for a gym membership, do yourself a favor and steer clear of Gold’s. Crunch is located right across the street and is way more affordable ($9.99-$29.99 a month), they have all the same amenities plus more/nicer equipment, it’s more than double the size, plus their management and upper management actually has their stuff together and cares about their members, staff, and retention.

Called back this morning and spoke with Eddie who hung up on me because he didn’t want to deal with me. I had to call back to get him on the phone where he continued to give me the runaround and talk poorly about his club. I really hope upper management sees this because their management is so unprofessional.

Eddie the new general manager was AWFUL to work with. Total nightmare of a human being. Tried to say I couldn’t cancel and then charged me $180 to cancel. Made me come all the way back to his office to talk to him about why I “needed” to cancel my membership. When I corrected him he gave me a completely different amount. This Golds is great! There is a power room with. A rouge rig and variety of rouge bars power, deadlift, and male or female oly, trap bar, Swiss bar, dynabody standing chest press and pendulum squat and more.

The main area features a full run of dumbbells , these really amazing gym80 machines you have to experience to understand how great they are.

The crowd training there is great and really sets the tone for serious training. The staff are always friendly and the place is clean. Its for sure my favorite of the 3 gyms I train at regularly!

I used to be a Gold’s member back when I lived in Smyrna, TN. When I moved to Memphis in 2019 I had to cancel my membership because there wasn’t a Gold’s here. So I suffered years of going to ESporta Fitness LOL. Then when Crunch Fitness came I left ESporta for them. I’m now waiting for Gold’s to open a new location that’s bigger. I’m not a fan of the white station area and the size of the Gold’s is too small for my preference. Even the one in Smyrna is way bigger. Until Gold’s opens up a bigger gym in a better location I’ll stay with Crunch.

I think Gold’s Gym Memphis is a pretty great gym. They offer equipment you cannot find anywhere else in Memphis. While the gym is very well put together, I think adding a couple extra pieces of equipment would do some justice. There’s not enough V oriented cable machines, leg extensions, hamstring extensions. It also seems like the choice of equipment was made swiftly. For instance, there are several machines for upper lat work, but no machines for lower lats. While i love the idea of combination lockers, the locker room size is very underwhelming. There is only room for two or three people to change clothes. I also think the addition of a kid zone would attract much larger attendance. Once memberships have risen, I think an expansion would be required. With the club being very centralized, Gold’s has potential to be the the number one club in Memphis. But without certain amenities and equipment, growth will be difficult.

Golds has a great atmosphere and the staff is awesome. Nevertheless, many members don't re-rack the barbell weights after use. I'm near 60 with a bad shoulder and it's hard for me to move the 35/45 plates. The culture in that aspect needs to change.
