Came here last year on my first visit to Nashville. Came back again yesterday just for the night and had to hit up this place again. It was just as great as I remembered. Nice and sweaty hot, room feels very home like and comfortable and instructors so good. I had Jimy lead me today in a power flow, her flow was so powerful yet so caring and her voice calm and sweet. Shower option is great especially when I’m traveling. I will be back every time I visit!

Okay, this place is adorable. Like, the cutest little hippie yoga studio with all the good energy, good lighting, and good vibes you’d expect in East Nashville. The space has two rooms — one for warm classes and one for the “hot hot” classes — plus showers and all the amenities you’d want if you’re coming straight from work or a workout.

I got there early (shocking, I know 😅), and the instructor was so kind — she unlocked the door, let me hang out, and even gave me a little tour. The space feels super welcoming and laid-back, not pretentious at all. They’ve got really cute merch too — think comfy tees and tanks you actually want to wear outside the studio.

I took a hot yoga class, and it was fantastic. My instructor led a spine series that had me feeling brand new. She knew her stuff and gave great cues. Booking through ClassPass was super easy, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish.

My only (tiny) gripe: they turn the bright lights on for most of the class, which kind of threw off the moody, ambient vibe they had going at the start and end. That lighting at the beginning and end? Perfection. I wish they’d kept that throughout. I also prefer louder music for flows , power, vinyasa & buti type classes.

Other than that — 10/10 experience. I’d absolutely come back. This studio has heart, great energy, and instructors who clearly care about what they’re doing.

This is a well-managed studio for students of all (flex)abilities and one where the instructors work to understand your needs and goals so that programs may be catered towards your specific needs. Ego and shoes are left at the door, and you are simply encouraged to relax.

This has been my home studio for the past 8 years. They offer a variety of classes from Hot 26, Power Flow, Buti, Restorative, & Yin to name a few. There is truly a class style for everyone interested in the practice of yoga. They also offer free classes at certain times on Wednesdays with any donations going to the Martha O’Bryan Foundation. This is a Yoga Community that promotes Love & Inclusivity for all. Each instructor brings something special to this studio, which makes HYE such a Unique Gem! If you’re an established practitioner or new to the practice I would definitely recommend Hot Yoga of East Nashville 10/10!

Charlane taught an outstanding class today. I've been practicing yoga for nearly 20 years across a variety of styles - this is one of the best classes I've taken in recent memory. It's rare in today's yoga world to find a teacher who is knowledgable, friendly, and humble (especially the humble part) all at the same time. The vibe was welcoming, particularly for the newer students, while also professional, and the instruction was fantastic. I rarely practice hot yoga, but I really enjoyed this. Thank you Charlane!

Miranda was rude. The room temperature in this class should be between 95-98 degrees, but it was way hotter when we entered. She even admitted that it was too hot but didn’t take any action to cool it down. In the middle of class, I got up to ask for permission to open the door. She told me to go back and said she would do it later. However, after class, she stopped me in the hallway and started scolding me, saying my behavior was disturbing other students. I apologized and told her I would just raise my hand next time, but she kept going. 🤷‍♀️ I haven’t been spoken to like this in a long time.

Also, I’ve been concerned about the safety of the yoga practice here. The room is set to be at least above 90 degrees, and everyone is breathing in and out in a humid, hot space with no fresh air coming in. In the end, aren’t we just breathing in carbon dioxide? There are so many times I have to stop my practice early because I couldn’t breathe.

———— reply to the owner
Please check your ClassPass website—it clearly states that the class is 95–98 degrees. As for your claim that no one has ever had trouble breathing, I personally know of at least two instances where I and others had to leave. Do I not count as a person?

This was my first yoga class ever and if I had let the experience set the tone for yoga in general I would have not gone to another class ever again. I decided to take some other classes and from these new experiences have discovered that my class here was not normal at all.
I took a class on Jan. 29 with Charlane and from the start of class she came off as a little rude but I wrote it off as being stressed by something else. She initially told us we weren't allowed to have our phones (which if that is the rule ok but it was our first time and we didn't know). I tried to double check to make sure this wasn't something to do with the heat and if I needed to take my watch off as well (I regularly use saunas and was thinking this may be related to technology overheating) and was met with an even shorter response than her initially telling us phones are not allowed like we should already know. The instructions at the beginning of class included "if you overheat just lay down, because if you leave i have to check on you" (I'm sorry that you would have to pause class but if I'm overheating I don't think telling me not to leave is proper protocol). My friend and I wear hijab and are much more likely to overheat and multiple comments were directed towards us throughout class in a way that made us not feel welcome. Among these comments were "don't drink water unless it's between poses", "get off your watches"(when either of us were trying to check our heart rate) and apologizing to the rest of the class about "sorry everyone that the new people are distracting just focus on your moves" (the extent of our distraction to class really was us not being able to do all the poses as it was our first class ever). Since going to this class I have been to several others and have never been told my phone being in class was a problem, have never been told not to leave class if I overheat, nor been griped at about looking at my watch or drinking water when I need. I'm really disappointed as this experience is the reason my friend will not try other yoga classes with me and ruined the practice for her. I hope that the instructors can learn to give grace to newcomers and strive to make it a positive experience as this experience can define someone's whole perspective on yoga.

Mrs. Claudia handles the business she is traditional yoga and she does not mind taking the time to give each individual extra instruction. Hey, I have been to hot yoga, this is the Authentic HOT YOGA. Come prepared to learn because I definitely enjoyed the extra instructions. I never know that I could enjoy sweating this much. This reminds me of wrestling training so much I know why Coach Henderson at HHS was so amazing he had us doing a well rounded mix of everything.

charlane was very rude and unwelcoming, making our first yoga class a negative experience. my friends and i found her approach to be condescending toward us as newcomers. i hope she receives training on how to better support beginners and be more inclusive toward people who look different from her.

instead of politely informing us of studio policies (like no phones), she called it out in a rude way, aiming at us when we mentioned it was our first class and didn’t know, her response—“ITS A YOGA CLASS!!”—felt condescending when a simple explanation of the rule would have been enough. at the beginning of class, she made it clear she didn’t want us to leave the class even if we needed to take a break or get out of the heat

we felt singled out. when we took sips of water in the heated room, she told us to only drink between postures. when we checked our heart rates on our watches, she snapped at us multiple times to stop. it was our first time in a heated environment, and as we were dressed modestly, we wanted to make sure we weren’t overheating. she also told the class to be patient because of newcomers, even though we weren’t disrupting the flow and often took breaks lying on our mats. there were some more minor instances. even though all minor, it left us feeling very irritated more than serene as the class is supposed to

unfortunately, this experience left us feeling unwelcome and never wanting to come again

I went here while visiting for a work conference. The class I took was a slice of heaven I desperately needed in the middle of the work week. The practice was slow yet strong. The instructor beautifully weaved in Sanskrit with spirituality. If I could move here just to practice at this studio I would.

Great classes! My husband and I visited this studio over the weekend. We enjoyed all the classes. One thing I loved was the moment of silence on Shavasana after the standing poses were done. Great moment to find my breath and connect within.
There was not a lot of flexibility in allowing people to modify poses due to injuries or other personal reasons but that’s okay. Still great classes.
Thanks

If you want to experience yoga like a real East Nashvillian, you’ll head to Hot Yoga of East! Parking is easy- in front of the building, along the side street or in the big parking lot across the street. Vibe is a real hippie, palo santo, warm colors, cacti. The heated room is huge and complete with mirrors and brand new floors. The classes are challenging and gratifying. But there is always space for you to take a savasana for the whole hour if you want. You will love HYEN. 🌵 🧘🏼‍♀️

Edit to answer the owner's response/question: Though I had a very good experience overall, I took a star off because there were very few lockers and very small locker rooms. I know that the doors lock during each class, but that's not nearly as secure as having private lockers and the space to use them.

I have been going here for almost 2 years and this studio is absolutely fantastic! It has a variety of classes and lots of times so it's really easy to fit it into your schedule. The teachers are phenomenal! I actually recommend interested yogis attend classes with a variety of instructors since they all bring something different. I've had classes with Miranda, Anna Marie, Lindsey, Emily, Adam, Caitlin, Alexis, and just started learning from Alex and Bri this past year (and a few others, too!) and I am not exaggerating when I say I learned something new from each instructor. The classes can be challenging, though, and the heat is quite high, so be prepared to work! I recommend newer folks try the Warm classes first if they can, but really all the teachers are amazing about encourage you to learn at your own pace and take rests when you need to. The energy is great, lots of positive, friendly folks go here and the studio is clean. I love that the teachers encourage students to have a laugh in class, to not take ourselves too seriously, but also focus on getting better and pushing ourselves where we can. It's been the perfect mix too - my practice is SO much better now than a year ago, and I've had so much fun along the way. So thanks so much for being such an amazing space, HYEN! I really appreciate it :)

The worst yoga experience ever. I have been to many hot 26 yoga. The instructor Claudia Neeley is the worst I have ever had. Made racism remark toward my mom and I ( which other students came over after class to check in with us as well, it was validating that I wasn’t the only one feeling it, ask “do you speak English?” In front of the whole class after clearly hearing us talk English in the beginning; very rude through out the class. One example was that my mom was feeling sick due to smell of sweat in the room and needed to step out, she goes “no one is allowed to leave” and forced her to be in certain position when she didn’t want to. There are many other examples. Would like to formally file complain toward this instructor if possible.

I can't say enough about this yoga studio and the community they have built... the classes alone are fantastic, but they've made coming to yoga that much easier by hosting a kid's yoga class on Tuesdays/Thursday during their 10am classes. My kiddos attended the kid's class, just this morning, and they had a blast! Not only did they learn new moves, get their wiggles out, and see friends from our wonderful East Nashville neighborhood, but I had peace of mind that they were engaged, safe, and not only strengthened physically, but also in mind and spirit, as well. Momma got her yoga and came out refreshed (and super sweaty) and kids came out a little more Zen (and flexible). :)

I honestly don't know what I would have done without it, particularly over the past year and a half of Covid. It has given me a safe and supportive place to get stronger and healthier and grow my practice.

Worst place ever. Rudest blonde woman working there. I witnessed her scream at a couple of teenagers today. Exceptionally rude. Not worth your business. I heard her say “you’ll never go anywhere in life” to a kid about 14 years old? Really doesn’t seem like what yoga is about. Not very zen of you

Cordell is just amazing! He is my favorite-so professional, knowledgeable and very very nice! I love coming to his Saturday morning 70 minute class, even after it changed to a guided class. I preferred his enthusiastic words of encouragement, but since I have been coming for over a year, I was able to adapt. Thanks Hot Yoga of East Nash and thanks so much to wonderful Cordell!

I have been coming to this studio since 2015 and a lot of the same instructors are even still there. I have been to many yoga studios and many classes and I can tell you, this is hands down one of the best. I have NEVER been disappointed in a class here and I go 3-4 times a week. The instructors and owner are amazing, knowledgeable and SO welcoming. The also offer quite a bit of extended learning. I love this place.

I attended the 300 hr elective course: Building a Business with the Owner of Hot Yoga East Nashville, Brooke Allison, and learned a great deal about how to open a business and all of the work that would entail. Brooke was a wealth of knowledge on business in general, but also a great source for yoga specifics when it comes to a business. This course was incredibly useful and greatly helped me to better analyze my future.

I was visiting Nashville for the weekend and I always try to find a yoga class while I'm on vacation - I'm so glad I ended up here! I did a class with Priscilla who was welcoming, warm, and created a no-pressure environment for first-time students. If you've ever felt intimidated by hot yoga (or yoga in general!) First time going to hit yoga and it was definitely challenging but I enjoyed my instructor. She was very good at explaining what each move was and what it did for your body. I have to say, I was off put by the amount of people per class. We were wall to wall but everyone was friendly and seemed like a good mix of experienced and inexperienced folks, so I felt comfortable. Lol. What was sad to see were the review responses from the owner. They seem pretty aggressive. I get that people sometimes over exaggerate their experiences and interpretations but it’s THEIR experiences and THEIR interpretations. Just seems like the responses to negative reviews are so hostile. I’ll just attribute that to passion for their business??? I don’t know. But I think the prices are reasonable compared to other locations I’ve visited since then, but the size of the facility, the amount of people allowed in the classes and the owner responses to the “negative” reviews is what made me rate it 3 stars instead of 5. I still think you should give this place a try. Maybe what didn’t work for me will work for you. Best of luck!

I have been disappointed by the lack of compassion and professionalism shown by this studio's owners. I purchased a 20-pack of classes in February 2020. During COVID, I was not comfortable attending in-studio classes. HYEN has refused to extend the classes I purchased, citing that they extended class packages for three months last year (April-June 2020). They have sent rude, berating, and scientifically-unfounded emails explaining their decision.

HYEN has no proof that COVID did not spread from their classes. Masks are proven to stop the spread of COVID, especially indoors. Exercising indoors without a mask has been consistently ranked as one of the highest-risk activities. I did not want to put my life or the life of my loved ones or community at risk. Other workout studios I attend in Nashville have graciously and with no question extended class packages, understanding that not everyone was comfortable working out indoors during a global pandemic.

I posted a similar sentiment on Facebook but the studio deleted my comments. This place is shady and disrespectful, and I will not be returning.

EDITED FOLLOWING OWNER'S RESPONSE - They never offered me $10 to extend my classes, and I had to pay extra to have the option of online classes. Do not believe their response to me.

*DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE*

Please see Noey Neumark’s review and how the business responded. The way this business treats it’s customers is deplorable. They’ve lied about how COVID was treated at the studio (no temp checks) last year, denied science (read the email post from Noey with their response to her request to use the $200 in classes she bought pre-pandemic), and have been completely horrible when they were asked to do what was right (told her that karma would come back to bite her for telling the truth). So so so much love for the teachers, but the owners and this behavior have ruined this place for me.

Far and away the best hot yoga studio I've ever been to. While the location is convenient for folks that live in East, and the facilities are clean and comfortable, what truly separate this studio from the others is the instructors that teach there.

The humility, humor, and acknowledgement of human fallibility expressed by the instructors at this studio creates an environment of welcoming and inclusion, regardless of your ability. Doing Yoga in a room full of strangers is an odd thing, and I appreciate the levity that instructors include in their practice to diffuse tension. I find myself laughing out loud during classes, and then seconds later deeply engrossed in a moment of teaching from the instructors.

I've done Yoga for a while, though until I found this studio, I never felt like I truly enjoyed it.

My daughter and I visited for the first time on Saturday. We were excited to attend the session but got turned around a bit and arrived two minutes late. The lady who greeted us was very rude and frustrated that we were not there right on time! The website said you could be no later than five minutes. We were two minutes late! She made us feel unwelcomed and told us we had to leave. We had registered and paid but since we were late we could not attend the class. I do not plan to come back and as a small business owner, it pains me to say that I would not recommend any one else go to this place! The people who were already in the class mattered more than us - but we all paid! Later when I came back to get a refund they offered to schedule another class- no thanks! Rude and ugly does not pay off!

The response below is not accurate - at all. I spoke with the manager and this level of ignorance was not exchanged. I appreciate the professionalism of Jen, who responded with an apology regarding this incident. Indeed, I did not argue - its not my style! The point still stands that we were 2 mins late and the instructor, Megan was rude to us. I'm done with your responses. I do not know you! However, I appreciate the personal and kind response I received earlier from management regarding this matter!

I have been going to this studio for 5 years and I cannot imagine my life without it!! I’ve tried several other studios but HYEN is the one that resonated with me the most. I love the variety of teachers there and all the different classes they offer. Once you get to know teacher’s styles you can really plan when to go to get what you need out of a class, wether it’s a power flow, heated/un-heated, buti, or a Hot 26 class. The lavender towels at the end of class are the most amazing feeling when you’re in savasana.

The kid yoga class on Wednesday is amazing!! I’ve taken my nieces a couple of times and they have absolutely loved Kevin, the instructor. As a public school teacher, I appreciate and value the way that Kevin teaches the kids, he’s a wonderful educator. First, this is a very interesting place. They have some extraordinary heartfelt instructors. In particular, Leslie, Heather and Kevin. They are awesome!

Unfortunately an experience that I had yesterday and into today has enlightened me about the dark side of this studio. And has unfortunately overshadowed the light.

With some misgiving I decided to try Claudia's class yesterday. The misgiving part came from some negative experiences reported by someone close to me. Said she repeatedly told her to "Kneel" in front of the class.

If you see Claudia's name on any schedule I urge you to stay far away. There is a great deal undiagnosed and untreated there.

I believe in giving people a chance. So I gave Claudia's class a try. Mind you I've been attending the above named instructors classes over the past couple of months with great joy.

During the class there was a posture that rather than falling out. I held my foot and leg extended with one hand instead of two as one of them kept slipping off with the amount that I sweat.

The other posture was where you stand and bend down to touch your head to your knee. Being a lot of people in the room with high humidity I became winded. So I chose to do a variation on the floor as it was more manageable than standing. Still a front compression touching my head to the same knee as everyone else.

The progression of being winded guided me to choosing to sit still for the following posture.

By the end of the class I felt like I'd experienced a strong class and was genuinely feeling the benefit.

The part of the story that I didn't share is that throughout my practice I had Claudia standing over me. Going on about how I was doing my own thing and that I needed to stop this and that. Telling me, a 45 year old man that she'll be having a talk with me after class in front of this group.

Despite Claudia's attempts at humiliation, shame and degradation. I did not react. As a matter of fact I probably was more of an example of the power of yoga. In that I still managed to claim my practice and engage in well being.

35 min after the class. After I'd had a significant meditation and showered. Claudia is actually waiting for me in the front of the Studio.

Her tone and demeanor hadn't changed. As a matter of fact it was more intense.

I responded by saying "Claudia, I have a prayer for you. My prayer for you is that you treat yourself better for the rest of the day. Because the way that you treated me today has nothing to do with me. It's the way that you treat yourself".

Claudia ignored my statement and continued to press. I then said, "Claudia, I can't afford to accept your shame. And I won't"

I then left.

I woke up to an email saying that I've been "expelled" from the studio for ongoing harassment of the instructors.

I'm a 45yo man who can handle something like this. Imagine someone much younger with much less emotional maturity and Lifeskills met with this kind of abusive, shame based behavior.
It's over abusive situations like this that folks take their own lives everyday.

My hope is that this studio either has a serious staff adjustment or just closes its doors completely. The general public has no use for such behavior in particular from Brooke and Claudia.

The days of the Bikram style of abuse is over. These are abused people that need help to stop abusing people.

If your well being is important to you and you have integrity, you will stay far away from the sick environment that is Hot Yoga of East Nashville.

I don't deliver these type of reviews really ever. But this had to be said.

We all have a voice and no one ever deserves to be shamed and penalized for standing up for themselves.

My first experience wasn’t great. Being a first time customer, the gentleman that checked me in wasn’t very kind. I was unsure of the process and didn’t know my way around, which he knew, but he was still rude and acted like I was wasting his time. My Hot 26 instructor kept calling me out when I needed to rest or didn’t know the poses very well. It was somewhat humiliating. I wanted to just leave the class, but I didn’t want to quit, and finished. I’m sure not all first time experiences are like mine, but I thought the need to share mine because it really frustrated me. I have been going there for a little over a month and I like it. They have many specials and a great variety of classes-the instructors a good and very positive.

If I had to make one suggestion it would that they had some type of a common area where the community could socialize around classes, they could stand another restroom-but the facility may not have the room.

If you live in East Nashville you should give this studio a look; the pluses outnumber the minuses.
