Dear Legacy Cheer Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share my sincere reflections as a parent after completing our time with Legacy this past season.

When I initially enrolled my daughter Brooklyn in your program, it was with the hope that she would not only learn the sport of cheerleading but also be uplifted and affirmed in a space that celebrates the uniqueness and strength of Black girls. I was introduced to Legacy Cheer by a colleague and was excited for the opportunity to join a program rooted in community and sisterhood.

However, I must express my deep disappointment in how I was treated as a parent, and more importantly, how that treatment trickled down to affect Brooklyn. Rather than being welcomed and supported, I often felt dismissed, overlooked, and unacknowledged in my efforts and concerns. Despite the financial challenges we occasionally faced, we made consistent sacrifices to ensure Brooklyn could attend practices, show up at events, and represent the Legacy name with pride. We were there—every time.

What hurt the most was the lack of effort made to affirm Brooklyn as an individual. She was never truly poured into or uplifted by those in leadership, which left her feeling unseen. When it came time to recommit for the upcoming season, no one reached out—not a message, not a phone call—to ask if we were returning or even check in. That silence spoke volumes.

I am not alone in these concerns. Several parents I’ve spoken to have expressed similar experiences, which may explain why many chose not to return. A program designed to build up young Black girls should do just that—uplift, affirm, and support them holistically, not leave them feeling like an afterthought.

I also want to make it known that I will be sharing my experience publicly so that other parents can make informed decisions. This isn’t meant to be an attack, but rather a call to accountability. When you run a youth-centered program, the priority must be the children—not egos, optics, or personal gain. You had one job: to build up our girls. Sadly, that mission was missed in our case.

We absolutely love Legacy Cheer. I just this week of camp my daughter has learned so much and her confidence has improved. The professionalism and staff is top tier.
We look forward to a long relationship with them as she continues to grow and thrive as a athlete.
