The whole National Fitness Center Corporation are the most greedy people. Money will continue to be taken out of your account after membership is up AND even after canceling. βMember Servicesβ doing nothing to help and will steal every penny they can from you. Any gym is better than NFC.

It's got weights but that's about it. Building is falling apart. Mens restroom is terrible, smells, and the stall doors won't lock. You might get a pump or you might get tetanus. They should spend some of the extra "maintenance" fee they take from us every few months to fix this place!

NFC Alcoa looks amazing when you walk inside. However the surface level appeal and excitment faded as I began to realize this was the most unclean gym I have been a member at. Plant Fitness is sparkling in comparison. There is never a squirt bottle to be found, the bands are terribly gross, and sweat puddles are extremely common. I cannot even clean after myself without bringing my own cleaners in!

Started a membership over a year ago. Month to month 20. I decided a couple months ago to cancel, called David the GM and he said I'd have to come in and sign a paper. I showed the next day, employees stated hes not there, asked to speak to the mgr who came out and told me only David could do the cancellation. said ok I'll come bac . In the mean time I got a new bank card. Got an email from nfc about it not going through. so I went back up there to cancel with David and give new card number. Hes not there at 1p . Ok, is he back today? Not he went home sick. Customer service calls today,, says I need to pay for the past 2m . Ok, I give my card # they charged me 70. In "service fees" I said no, that's like me paying for 5 months, not acceptable. she states well I can get one removed for you, but they never approve 2. I asked her to cancel my membership. States I'll have to go to the club or send certified mail, which is another 15.0 . And its 30 days after cancellation so I'll also have to pay June payment! I'm livid. It would be different if I could have cancelled 2 months ago like I wanted. What kind of scam are you all running there?

The gym itself was decent. But when I tried to cancel I called ahead and was told to come in before six to see the manager. I was told I did not need an appointment because the manager was scheduled till six. I came in before six a week before I needed to cancel and the manager was not there, one of the employees said they would leave him a note. I came in every other day for a week trying to cancel and the manager was never there. When I finally did cancel it was three days past the date needed to cancel and not be charged an extra month. They did not offer a refund or to make it right even though I had come in a week before to try and cancel. If you need to cancel go in a month before or they wonβt have time for you. They told me I should have scheduled an appointment so it was my fault, but when I asked if I needed to they told me I did not.
It is shifty practice for the manager to leave early when an employee gives him notice someone is about to cancel. Money grabbing?

Expensive, won't let you cancel a membership by phone. You have to come in and cancel 30 days before your contract ends or they will charge you an additional month, and continue to charge you each month afterwards. So good luck getting out of your contract when it ends. If you cancel your card instead, they send the charges to collections until you jump through a million hoops to cancel your membership "the right way". These people are crooks. Don't fall for it.

This is by far the worst company Iβve ever dealt with. Hands down, the worst. I signed up with my wife and told the guy we dealt with we wanted to be there for 1 year. We made that very clear, and at the time we signed up digitally. When it came up to be a year, I called to cancel because they were still charging. When I finally had the chance to speak with somebody, they sent me an email showing my contract with 3 years typed, with my signature on it..
So here it is, about 2 and a half years after signing up. Iβm paying $100 a month. While they are promoting rates much, much cheaper and βno contractsβ yet they drag me through the dirt with this contract. No other company Iβve dealt with would change their policies yet treat their existing customers the way they do. In my opinion, if this tells you anything, itβs that they do not care about you, only your wallets and the way they do business is very shady.

Their βno contractβ claims are NOT true.
I tried to join this gym because my partner was doing a $20 month-to-month contract, which they advertised on a giant sign in front of the building. I wanted to do the same. When I went in to sign up, they told me they didnβt do month-to-month contracts. I went back outside, checked the GIANT sign and asked what it was advertising. They said Iβd need to sign up for at least 6 months and pay a bunch of extra fees.
We knew we wouldnβt be living here in 6 months, so my partner decided to quit since I couldnβt join. He went in several times to try to cancel his account, but no one could do it for him. He called customer service, exasperated, and they told him what hoops he needed to jump through (mail in a cancellation or go directly through David Beardsley, the manager). He filled out a form with David.
Now, three months later, heβs been contacted because they were trying to draft his account and something went wrong. The dishonest scumbags have been charging him ever since! And theyβve been a nightmare to work with trying to sort this out. They have record of his exasperated phone call but not his cancellation.
Do NOT sign up for this gym. They donβt care about you, youβre just a number to them, another dollar in their filthy pockets.

Terrible business! Save your time, money, and a headache and go somewhere else. Dishonest practices on all levels. I have been going to various gyms across the country for years and this business is the most predatory gym I have ever gone to. At the Alcoa hwy location they advertise a $20 month to month membership but when you go inside they tell you that its not what it appears to be, a $20/month contract with quarterly maintenance fees over $100. This banner has been out front for months and is still out there. I paid the nearly $150 in fees so that I could cancel when I want and started going there. I attemtped to cancel in December because my job is taking me else where. I called David Beardsley, the only employee authorized to cancel accounts, and took weeks to finally get a hold of him. He never returned my calls. I had to stay in town and go in three days in a row to catch him. When I finally did I signed and filled out all necessary documents to cancel and was contacted today Feb 18th because they tried to draft my account! I couldnβt believe it. National Fitness, change your practices or close your doors. The word is out about how you do business. Update 3/5/19: got contacted by customer service agent Marie, seeking payment. She was unwilling to work with me to resolve the issue and forwarded me to a third party collector. Customer service points fingers at the local gym and the gym puts the blame on customer service, and both try to find a way to put the blame back on you the customer. After talking with Marie in customer service for a moment she notified me she HAD RECORD I called to ask about cancelation on 1/2/19. She offered no course to resolve except to fill out a new cancellation form and continue to pay. Donβt waste your time here.

We enjoy going to NFC, Alcoa Hwy. The manager and staff are very friendly and helpful. We love the Yoga classes with O.J. Bergeron. This club has a family atmosphere where the clients are very friendly. We like the Quick Set Up for quick work outs, plus there is other equipment available for those who want it. The construction on Alcoa Hwy has not been a problem in getting there. It is a great club.

Beyond disappointed in their customer service. Husband needed to "cancel" a NO CONTRACT service due to chemo, they still continue to deduct money from our account again on a NO CONTRACT acct, hung up on repeatedly, go in person, ask for MGR, threatened to call the police, very degrading and disrespectful.

Why have a outdoor pool??? The hours are to short, they close up at the first sound of thunder, can't take a foam noodle for exercises.... I'm sure there's more to complain about. The South Beach was awesome when it was Court South. National fitness has ruined it!!! Should probably cancel my membership!! Only been a member for 20 years!!! No more water aerobics!!! A month into my membership and still living every minute of it. The whole experience is uplifting. The signs on the door thank you. The staff greets you. There's multiples of equipment so your workout is not delayed. There are options for group fitness and personal training. You have many amenities including boxing, a running track, movie theater for cardio and pools both indoor and outdoor. The facility welcome patrons of all ages and fitness experience. They made fitness fun.

I've been a member at NFC/Court South for almost 5 years and have been bringing my daughter to the NFC Beach since she was born. I can take my daughter to the Signature Club whenever I want to to go swimming. Then I bring her today to enjoy some fun in the sun with my family like I have been doing for 4 years and I'm told that I have to pay for her every time I bring her. I already pay 78 a month for my membership and now this location is trying to make me pay more $$$! Very unhappy with this location and the direction it has gone in the past year!

This is one of the worst businesses I have ever been a customer with. The customer service department and management are extremely difficult to work with. I was told when joining that I could cancel at any time. I specifically asked this twice before signing to make sure. They would not let me cancel my membership until a full year had gone by. They were not even willing to work something out to meet in the middle. KNOW YOU CANNOT CANCEL until after a year of having a membership.

After reading the many mixed reviews, I must admit I was really nervous about checking out this gym. However, I am glad I went to personally check the facility out. The hospitality David showed while giving me the tour was outstanding. He was genuine in all the concerns I brought up and even went above and beyond and did some research on a specific issue I had heard about. David explained ALL charges including the maintenance fee that is charged, and was very upfront about the prices and the contract responsibilities. He was patient as I asked my questions and answered everything could. What he could answer he found out and followed up with a phone call. If your looking for a place that is clean, not crowded, and has friendly staff stop by the NFC South location... it may be exactly what you are looking for!

f you don't like contracts then go elsewhere as you will instantly get the contract remorse the first second you leave the business! Personally, once my contract is up I will NOT be renewing here. I have had a gym membership since I was 21, and this location/company has the worst process I've experienced. From haggling over the price, to signing a three year contract to get the best monthly price, to adding more money to be able to go to any of their locations and the beach, to waiving the sign-up fees but charging me $70 for processing and $10 per keychain tag (so $20 for a two person contract even though you would think the first ones would be free?). Complaining to the store manager about issues around the gym seems to do nothing in the years I have been attending, other than when the spin bikes finally were fixed after a year of the morning class participants complaining.
For the positive, group classes area easy to attend as this location does not get as busy. The group instructors are nice and knowledgeable. They will adjust their classes for newcomers. The other positive is the location is perfect if you work in downtown Knoxville or on campus since you only have to turn right on Alcoa Hwy. The daycare is nice as you can drop off your child while you workout. They will find you to change diapers though.
The inside running track cannot be used safely as it's also the way to get from one side of the gym to the other and you will get upset running into folks or doors, not to mention folks leaving the aerobic classes. Plus its so small the laps to equal a mile is 19! The water fountain and ice machine are always breaking. They have ONE water fountain by the bathrooms, and its not even one of the water bottle fountain types. You can also ask the front desk worker to fill up your water bottle with ice water, water, or ice any time though if they aren't busy.

Overall my experience was pretty average. The new facility off Walker Springs in West Knox is really nice. I just didn't go enough to renew a 3 year contract at $45/ month. There are other fees, and not everything was straightforward, but nothing remarkably dubious beyond that of your typical monthly payment contract schemes from any other business.
Experience greatly depends on which location you visit. I think the satellite locations are much less appealing than the main club at Walker Springs.

Absurd cancellation policy. Watch out. No matter what they make you give a 30 day notice or you will have to pay the following month after you cancel. Even if you confirm your account is cancelled if another month rolls in within your 30 day notice they charge you. So basically no matter what month you chose to cancel you will have to pay the next one?
It's insane and bad business. Will not be going to a National Fitness ever again.

Extremely dishonest business practice they will try to squeeze every amount of money out of you possible when you try to cancel. Just for reference here is exactly what happened to me and my girlfriend.
We discovered we had to move last minute and would no longer be able to use the facilities we had a month-to-month contract so there shouldn't of been any issues canceling . We file for cancellation at the beginning of December virtually they make you fill out a form and then mail it it there's no easy way to cancel you have to mail in the form and if there is a 30 day processing. How it takes 30 days to process the cancellation beats me but that's how they do it I guess.
Mind you we cancel at the very beginning of December and then January comes around. I check my bank account and I have two separate charges one $25 charge and another $20 charge . So I have course call national fitness and they read direct me to the billing department . I informed the woman on the phone that I've cancel 30 days ago yet I've still been charge for the month of January with an unexplained $25 charge on top of my normal $20 monthly charge . She explains to me that the $25 charge is an enhancement fee that every member has to pay once a year on top of all of their monthly fees . She says that she sees my cancellation in the computer and that we are no longer members but it appears my 30 day processing crossed over into the very beginning of January and because of that I will be charge for the month of January along with the enhancement fee for the year 2017 . She claims at the moment there's nothing she can do for me but she would write down my information and the manager will call me back I've yet to receive a call from the manager and I'm also find it absurd that I can't just get my money refunded when it's the very beginning of January and I didn't fact file my cancellation 30 days ago she's a clear sign that I will no longer be able to use their facilities yet they want to charge me to use the facilities . Honestly it's laughable and I understand why they had the 30 day processing out so they can leak over into an extra month to charge you when you try to cancel .
I'm still awaiting a call from the manager to see if they can do anything if my money is refunded I will take down this review if not buyer beware I highly recommend against signing up for national fitness unless you want to face cancellation woes when the time comes
Update: the manager called me back just to tell me there is nothing they can do if the 30 day process leaks over into the next month even if it's only by one day like in my case he will still be charge for that month and if it just so happens to leak into the next year like in my case I will also be charged the enhancement fee for that year even though I will no longer be attending that gym for the rest of the year or ever again in my case

We really enjoy attending the group fitness classes (like body pump and body step), and we also use the free weights area, and cardio equipment frequently. I was interested in becoming a member and stopped by on my way home from the YMCA. Having drank plenty of water working out, I asked the lady at the front desk if I could use the restroom before I sat down to discuss membership options. She said I must sign in first. I have my 9 month old on my hip and an urgent need to relieve myself. Patiently I say sure, where do I sign? Then she proceeds to tell me I must leave my drivers license as well. All along still holding my bladder and my baby. I say I'm sorry, but unfortunately I do not have it on me. She says I cannot use the restroom. Needless to say I did not stay to inquire about a membership.

Not happy with the people who run this business. They are deceiving and full of undelivered promises. They cancelled my training at my request because of an injury. I had 45 training session built up and they told me they had to all be used in 30 days of cancellation of continued billing- ridiculous. That was after they assured me that I would have my training sessions. So, I lost those with no reimbursement and cold rudeness and told me that I should have known. No one explained the policy- I was on month to month- no contract. They said I should go to the person who cancelled me and they knew they had quit. zap that money is gone. I complained to the BBB. Not an atmosphere for kind people because they do not handle accounts fairly- getting a cancellation even after membership is over is very, very difficult. They continue to bill you with no contact is up after membership is over. At least be polite!

When we signed up for Court South on Alcoa Highway, we were concerned as we knew we might be moving. But the person selling to us assured us that if we did move we could transfer our membership to a local office if available, or else cancel if there was no local office.
Fast forward 2 years and we moved to Maryville, within one mile of their Maryville location, and we went in to see about transferring, and we find that they won't honor our existing contract and price. What they would do is sign us up for a new 3 YEAR contract at a higher price without charging us a huge cancellation fee on our old contract.
The contract does specify that they consider anywhere within 15 miles acceptable. Court South is now 14 miles from our home, while their local office is only 1 mile away.
It's my fault for being stupid enough to sign a 3 year contract and not notice that they charge you extra every year for "facility enhancement fees" or the fact that on the back side of the contract there's a little section notifying you that once your contract is up they're still going to keep billing you without notice unless you send a piece of certified mail to an address -- you can't call. It's also my fault, I suppose, for not noticing the little note in the contract saying, "The hours of operation are subject to change at the company's discretion", which means that the several times they've been closed and I've not been able to use the gym (This past month included) is completely acceptable by their terms. It's even my fault for not measuring the distance from our new home to this office and noting carefully under what conditions the statements made by the salesperson would be true.
But plain and simple, we asked them, "What if we move to Maryville or something?" And they said that'd be no problem -- that we could transfer our service to the Maryville office. And nowhere were we lead to believe that that would mean signing a new 3 year agreement with a higher price.
I will never ever use National Fitness Center again or any gym requiring a contract and will do my best to discourage anyone I know from going there.
