Fantastic place to work out. Traveling through town and staying at nearby hotel.

Reasonable daily rate and great customer service along with a fully equipped fitness center.

Strongly encourage anyone to join or even stop by for a workout

A little over a year ago, I signed up for a National Fitness membership online. I was excited to join and looked forward to all the perks that came with it, including a complimentary personal training session. Unfortunately, despite reaching out multiple times to schedule that session, I never received any response.

After being a loyal member for over a year, I recently asked a front desk employee when my membership would expire, since I had signed up for what I believed was a one-year contract. To my surprise, I was told that my account was actually under a three-year agreement. I never selected, signed, or agreed to a three-year contract. The employee was unable to assist me and referred me to the main office.

Since then, I have made numerous attempts to contact management for clarification, but I have not received a single response β€” no emails, calls, or messages. This complete lack of communication has been extremely frustrating and disappointing, especially given that I have consistently made my payments and supported the gym for over a year.

Even if I had to continue paying for the full three years, I simply wanted an explanation or conversation about the situation. Unfortunately, the lack of professionalism and responsiveness has left a negative impression.

I have since joined the YMCA and have been very pleased with my experience there, from the friendly staff and clean, well-maintained equipment to the free classes offered to members. While I did enjoy my time at National Fitness overall, my recent experience makes it difficult to recommend the gym to others.

Be prepared to pay a $269.00 cancellation fee if you move. Even if you move FORTY THREE MILES away from the gym and have two pieces of evidence that you moved. We didn’t have any problems with National Fitness until we moved to a remote town and needed to cancel. We were members there for a while. We argued with them and ultimately lost. Now NFC can enjoy this review forever. Have the day you deserve.

The hours are perfect and the equipment offered is everything needed. The staff are great and add an element of being at home without being a distraction or invasive during your workout. The only downside is cost, but I won’t say it’s without the benefits. You get what you pay for and in my opinion you get a lot especially the more often you visit. Great experience for the serious gym-goer who shows up 3+ times a week

I so enjoyed my time at NFC. The facilities are incredible and the staff is friendly and helpful. Even ending my subscription was quick and painless. I went to the gym about a month before my term was expiring, spoke directly with the manager of the Knoxville West location, and got everything taken care of within 5 minutes. The manager (I forget his name) was kind, professional, and made the process so smooth. I'd be happy to sign up again in the future.

Facilities not that great. They lock you into a long term contract. Totally not worth it. Other gyms offer way more in quality and flexibility.

Company is toxic and predatory. This usually takes the form of them signing you up for a multiyear contract. In my personal experience, I got a membership and the guy told me it had to be a two year contract. I called his bluff, and he offered me a month to month contract. When my wife signed up though, she assumed it would be month to month, and the guy put her on a three year contract without mentioning it. When I tried to get them to fix the issued, they threatened to sue if we stopped making payments. Three years later, we have nothing but contempt for these people. If you look them up on the Knox County General Sessions, you'll see they've got hundreds of civil court cases pending. These peoples' business relies on a model that's a cross between the credit card industry and the used car sales industry, where they use manipulative sales tactics to get you to sign for as long as possible. If you pay great, if you don't, great. They'll sue you and collect interest to line their scummy pockets.

I have to say I am very disappointed in Court South or National Fitness. As much as you pay for a membership, you would think you would be entitled to a few necessities. I understand you are remodeling, but to still be open and not have access to a restroom is just UNBELIEVABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE. It is bad enough your customers cannot use the restroom, but what about your employees. And in this day and age of Covid and the Flu, not being able to wash your hands is, well, spreading germs on the equipment. You would be better off closing until the remodel is done, because closing half of the gym and forcing everyone into a 500ft area with no restroom is just crazy.

I am currently a member of court south national fitness in Knoxville TN. I recently became a 100% disabled veteran of the marine corps last month. My injuries do not allow me to work out anymore. I got medical letters that they requested and two letters from the veterans affairs of this issue. The management department has denied my cancellation 3 times now. They said there’s no disability clause after asking for all of these letters…. When asked for a letter of the reason for denial, they could not provide a letter. This place has been unclean, green pool, nasty equipment, and bad child care. If I could give it a zero review I would. Do NOT get a membership with national fitness unless you want to keep that membership even if your 100% disabled.

** I have given multiple letters from my doctor and veterans affairs that my conditioned worsened in July (thats why I no longer attended) and I became 100% disabled, so more than I was when I joined. I also provided information that I am now under the care of a physical therapists. Court South response was that a disability is not in their contract for dismissal of membership. So I will have to wait until I move out of state to get out of membership.

I feel like I'm being glared at by the black lady who works the counter every time I walk in and it deters me from wanting to come here. That's the honest truth. I have a gym membership and I wish I felt like using it, gyms should be awesome and inviting and I don't feel any of that here. The neighborhood's already a big enough barrier to deal with (and this is coming from someone who grew up here)

Love this gym location!
Ron is the best and he really makes the gym feel warm and welcoming. It feels like a community and more personal than some of the other bigger national fitness locations. Bigger isn’t always better…
Equipment is decent and gets the job done- some of it needs to be replaced and is currently and I appreciate that. Pool is always clean in summer and hardly ever crowded. My kids love the baby pool area and the childcare workers here are the best. My kids ask to go to Mr. Ron’s gym rather than tazewell pike location. I’m happy with our membership and the childcare that’s included, overall great deal and for someone who works out 4-5 times a week being locked into a gym contract doesn’t bother me because I know I’m going to show up. This is a commitment and a lifestyle for me and my family =)

Has no pricing details and when you call in they "don't know any of the pricing and you'll have to come speak to someone in person about that" then they tried to get me to commit to a 24-month contract in person...

May not be a typical experience, but it was my experience with Court South nonetheless. Signed up for a couples membership with my girlfriend and roommate of many years. Was also given a promotion that cut the initial fee. Less than 24 hours later the manager, Ron, calls me saying that the gym rep that signed us up wasn’t allowed to give us that particular membership, nor was she allowed to give us the promotion that she did. I tell the manager that we will be cancelling the membership outright because I certainly won’t be paying two full, overpriced, memberships to this facility. The gym rep then calls me telling me how to cancel, by sending in a letter to the National Fitness offices. What she failed to tell me was that we also had to send in the key tags they gave us in order to receive a full refund. Apparently in the fine print of the membership contract, it states that each key tag costs $15, and a failure to send them in will cause a decrease in the refund you’re owed. I’ve had gym memberships to many, many gyms over the years, and I’ve never heard of a gym charging $15 for a key tag that costs less than a quarter in raw materials to make. Sure, maybe if they issued a RFID key fob for gym access, I could see it costing $10+ or more, but not a flimsy piece of plastic that goes on your key chain, absurd. So apparently I won’t be refunded the full amount because I no longer posses one of the key tags, which I threw away after cancelling, like any normal person would do. Additionally, the managers of both the gym, and the billing office, both failed to call me back after conversations and messages left on voicemail because I guess me not being a member at their gym doesn’t warrant any professional courtesy.

To add some more clarification, it is not $15 for a key β€œfob”, it has no passive wireless communication capability such as RFID. It is a piece of plastic identical to the rewards key tags you get at a Speedway gas station or Ingles grocery store. So you’re being charged $15 for that little piece of plastic that costs cents to make. It is not a security concern as is suggested.

If you join this gym, do not sign a 3 year agreement. They have incredibly ridiculous requirements for canceling. We moved out of state after a few months and were not able to "prove" with the several ways they require and had to pay every month for 3 years for a gym we couldn't use.

My experience in the National Fitness Center community, has been stellar from the beginning, since I joined about 5 years ago. The the schedule, variety of classes and accessibility to several gym sites, and the caliber of the instructors, are excellent. The staff at my "home gym," Northwest Knoxville, Court South is Above & Beyond in particular. My elementary-age daughter has often been in the daycare and also participates in Kids in Motion. Last Summer She also did several days a week of day camp at Tazewell.. My experience has been 100% positive from both of our perspectives.

This review is sour grapes on my part, and my advice. Joined on Jan 2015, just finished my 3 year contract. I, like a lot of people started out hot and heavy the first month. Then between some life issues and lack of motivation, stopped working out. It seems to me, and most people know that once you commit to the contract, most places just want that payment every month. They are not in the business to motivate you, as they shouldn't be. The problem is that once you commit and pay the card fee, and 2 extra yearly fees on top of the monthly payment, that they might contact you every once in awhile to see why you're not coming. Too much to ask I'm sure, but it could maybe get you motivated some. This never happened in my case, I just blew 1400 to 1500 dollars.... My advice is to either work out at home, or stay away from contracts, and join one of the places that you pay as you go.... Again, it's my own fault, and advice...

Although I enjoyed my time at Court South, and Ron is a great manager of the location, I recently left the gym just to try out another local gym. I left in June. In July, I was charged a random "enhancement fee" for future gym enhancements.

I assumed it was a simple mistake, because why would I, a non-member, be charged for future enhancements I won't be around to use, a month after I discontinued my service (I have been paying month-to-month for some time now)? I contacted Ron, who gave me the names and emails of his supervisors, Randy and Lee. I emailed them both about the issue, and after a week, neither have attempted to reach out to me in any way. I have gone from "I will likely come back to Court South" to "Nope. Not if this is how they treat customers".

Never ever ever sign on with this gym. They make you sign a 3 year contract, which has ultra fine print stating they will charge some 15-20% on top of the value of contract if it's not paid. So if you can't afford their ridiculous rates and can't work out, they charge you even more money and have no way to get out of the contract due to hardship. Ex, I attended the gym 4 times, but paid over 400$ in fees for time I never spent at the gym. This company is about their money, not helping an individual stay fit and healthy. Worst. Gym. Ever.

I have been a regular member at Court South for almost ten years and look forward to the next ten. The staff members are like a family to me. Ron Rayho is an excellent manager of the facility, but has become a wise and respected friend over the years. He alone would be enough to keep me coming back, but he has surrounded himself with a friendly and caring staff that makes having a membership there even more special. The smiles and warm welcome from Michelle, April, Rebecca and others each day at the front desk are sincere and genuine. Anthony, James and others keep the enthusiasm rolling as well. I've been a member for at least ten years. I love the Merchants branch the best. It's always clean and the staff are really nice. In fact, the patrons all seem nice too. One time I had to throw myself on the mercy of Ron, the manager. I had come to the club, but my card didn't work when I swiped it. I couldn't imagine what happened because I had direct payment from my bank. I called Ron at his home. He didn't know me from Adam, but told the desk person to let me work out anyway until it got sorted. THANK YOU RON! By the way, they have the best cardio theater!

My wife and I have been lifetime members of CourtSouth since the 80's and Consider CourtSouth as kind of our second home. Ron Rayho always greets you with a smile and a kind word. He somehow remembers every members birthday and posts it on the outside billboard and e-mails a picture of the billboard to the member. Always a pleasant birthday recognition. Also, the support staff always try to make a point to greet you with a smile and an acknowledgment when you leave. The day care is also superior in how they engage and entertain the children. All three of my children practically lived in the daycare while they were young. They all have fond memories of Betty who is probably fully retired by now after having the life sucked out of her by my kids. Also I would like to commend on the cleanliness of the club. There is always someone wiping down the equipment and mopping or vacuuming the floors. Always very clean. Thank you Courtsouth for all you have done for my family's physical and mental health.

Ron is the best! Customer service is his expertise. We've dealt with Ron since '99 and no one compares to him as far as caring for the members and ensuring they have an quality gym experience.

You've come to the right spot if your looking for the perfect gym. Cardio, weights, group fitness, sauna, pool, and child care. My second home! Child care is amazing these ladies practically helped raise my son. Group fitness classes are hands down the best. Esp when Allyson is teaching. Friday jam session! Everyone here treats you like family. A place that even women can workout comfortably!

The staff is really friendly and helpful. Plenty of room to workout. Lots of great cardio equipment. I've been to gyms that have a cheaper price and you just don't get out of them what you can get at Court South. Management team is great there and they listen if you have concerns or issues. Overall great club!!

Court South is a fantastic and clean facility. Ron Rayho is a caring and energetic guy. He brings a lot to the table and is genuine and offers help with any questions you may have. The staff that works at Court South is super friendly, Anthony Maples is a high energy Membership coordinator, and is a great friend and motivator to all. I come in to lift 3-4 days a week and am always met with smiling faces and warm welcomes. The list goes on and on about the great workers and trainers they have, James, Rebecca, and so on, are all friendly and make the gym a great place to be. I can always count on the gym to be a great environment. Court South is the best gym anyone could ask for! I can't brag about it enough.

IF you're serious about fitness and working out, then Court South Merchants is where you need to be. There is no lack of equipment or amenities at this gym; but at this location it goes beyond just the facilities and the equipment - it's the family and friendly atmosphere that takes it over the top.

Ron Rayho make everyone feel welcomed. He has an outstanding staff - all of whom deserve to be mentioned because they too are over the top when it comes to taking care of members & guests, and making you feel like an old friend. Everybody is glad to stop what they're doing to offer help any time it's needed.

I've been a member of other gyms - but it felt more like I was just a number.... didn't help my motivation at all. Face it, at times it's hard to be motivated to go workout - but when you're going to Court South Merchants - it's like you're among friends eager to cheer you on to your health & fitness success.

Go see Tony or Clay and get started today! What are you waiting for???

If you are looking for a motivating gym, a gym family, fantastic child care then this is the gym for you. I've been a member at Court South/NFC since I moved to TN in 2009 and this facility is by far the best gym i've ever been apart of for many reasons. The Staff not only makes you feel good walking through the door but they take the time to get to know you and great you by your name as you come in and leave. Abby and all the other ladies in child care go far and beyond to entertain and make our children happy. Anthony, one of the membership salesman brings such a great attitude everyday! He encourages not only me but every member to stay motivated and to keep pushing! Ron and all the staff take time out of everyday to acknowledge every member by a hey good to see you're here, to putting a memorable event or birthday on the sign in the parking lot to help celebrate whatever the event is; to me this shows a lot and means a lot to know a gym would go out of their way to show the appreciation of the members. Not to mention the year round events they do for the family's such as Christmas parties, Halloween, Easter, parents night out...etc This facility goes far and beyond to make their members happy so i would encourage you to give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

This is an awesome facility! I typically arrive at 5 a.m. and Michelle is always working the front desk and in great spirits. She has a great rapport with the members and makes everyone feel welcomed and comfortable. I attend training sessions with Mariah Hall, and she is awesome! She encourages me to try new things, pushes me, and is very supportive through the process. Likewise, Ron and Tony were great in getting me started with my membership and acclimated to the facility. Overall, I've had a great experience so far!

I am a UTK graduate student who used to attend the TRECS gym on campus all the time. As a woman and a teaching assistant, I wanted to attend a gym with a more mature crowd. Court South Merchants is incredible. I feel very comfortable working out here. There are rooms available to stretch in peace and I even practice my dancing when no one is in the racket ball courts. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. Tony and Ron are very welcoming. Ron worked with me constantly to find me the best membership possible. This gym is like your neighborhood. You come to get fit but you are among your friends. People constantly ask me how I'm doing or introducing themselves to me. Not only is there everything you could possibly want workout wise but the atmosphere is something you can't get anywhere else. This gym is for serious members only which is something I love. There is no month to month membership which ensures all the people there are serious about their workouts. WHICH also means when new years hit there wasn't an insurgence of people. They have a 'busy' time around 5 but honestly every time I go I NEVER have an issue getting on the equipment I want. There are a ton of machines, cables, and free weights. The members are so nice that anyone will let you work in if you want to. Like I said I NEVER have an issue doing the workout I want to that day. LOVE this place. The building is a little older but don't let that deter you! It has everything you could want and then some! Come check it out!
