Great choice of group fitness classes. If you are looking for connection, the Hixson Y is the place to be. The senior fitness classes are packed! I love seeing the healthy, active lifestyles these ladies and gentlemen represent. The sense of community is off the chart. The facilities are always clean and equipment is in excellent condition.

You canβt ask for much more from YMCA than this place offers. The staff is always very friendly the machines of the day theyβre constantly remodeling. They have an outside playground two different indoor pools and tons of weights and basketball courts. I guess the only thing about the basketball court like any basketball court now is basically a pickle ball court so thatβs fun

My favorite activity is swimming. The North River Y keeps their beautiful pool clean and well-staffed with life guards. I love the windows that go across two sides bringing in the natural light. The sauna is the way I like to end my workout. I also love that we can buy fresh vegetables grown in the on-site gardens during the summer!

All the staff was friendly & welcoming. Other members were nice and cordial and considerate of other members. Only one time where two friends monopolized a machine. Otherwise, a desirable gym; but all Yβs Iβve been toβDowntown, Shallowford Rd and Hixson are. A quick event: I had a seizure at the downtown Y and assumed like jobs & other places they wouldnβt have me backβliability. They βDeb the mngr. & staffβdid without a question though. π.

YMCA is ridiculous is not autistic friendly. They have their staff thinking that they can yell at children and special needs children. I shouldnβt have to put a billboard on my sonβs head saying Iβm autistic. Please donβt yell at me very very discriminating against special needs children, especially the one old lifeguard and they had never regards to him they let him keep his job, which is absolutely unacceptable, do not go to YMCA in Hixson. They discriminate against special needs children and if youβre sending your children to daycare, second-guess it because they think that they can yell at your kids nonstop.

Summer Camp is a circus, camp director is poorly equipped to handle it. Although we registered online and filled out a TON of forms, somehow they couldnβt locate my wifeβs phone number and it took nearly two hours for them to contact us to come pick our child up after a behavioral issue (heβs got sensory issues). This led to further escalation of the director yelling at and harming our childβs self esteem for not βfollowing directions immediatelyβ. He was incredibly rude and tried to gaslight my wife about our sonβs behavior. He also didnβt know what the word βelopeβ meant when I was discussing what the issues they were having with our son were. I think that speaks a ton in regard to the training and qualifications of the staff at summer camps here. We will not be back. The worst camp experience we have had in Chattanooga, weβve been to CCS, Zoo Camp, Aquarium Camp, all with zero issues. My son was absolutely devastated and didnβt want to go back because of the βbig angry manβ. Donβt send your kids here if they arenβt robots that are terrified of adults.

I come to this YMCA because it is convenient for me. But it never ceases to amaze me that when I walk in the facility Im not greeted at all and then the person behind me gets a nice greet of HELLO with a smile. I'm here to work on myself not to make friends therefore I will continue to come but everyone should get the same greeting no matter the color or special need.

I can tell an improvement in my balance from the Y classes. In fact, I slipped on the floor in a restaurant not long ago and I believe it was the Y classes that allowed me to recover my balance without falling.
The chair yoga has helped my upper back and neck tightness and range of motion. I can turn around in the car and look in the back seat for the first time in years. The socialization is great also. Our classes pull us together like family. The instructors are really good and encouraging.

Rude and unhelpful staff. I asked for a visitors pass for my baby and I. The receptionist informed me that I had to come with a member for it to be free, so I had to pay $25 to use the pool for 20 minutes. Then, receptionist made me fill out a two page application while standing in the freezing doorway holding my baby. The locker rooms are not family friendly. The changing table is right by the doorway so if you have an infant, you better get creative on how to dress yourself for the pool also. When we finally made it to the pool, the lifeguard yelled at us to get a wristband, but didnβt tell me where to get one. The only kind staff member was the younger lifeguard who gave us the wristband and told us to have a good time. Not sure itβs worth a $77 a month membership.

The whole experience at the YMCA North River was and is excellent. The facilities are clean and welcoming. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. My wife and I were greeted as we walked in and helped us discover the many different options for getting started on our mission to get into better health and wellness. There are so many different programs and equipment available. Since we are Seniors and have Medicare our membership is free! We were given a tour of the facility and were evaluated as to where to start improving our fitness. We connected with a trainer who is wonderful and been very supportive with our specific needs. Great gift to this community as I see all ages using this place.

After having a poor experience at another summer camp, I enrolled my son in the YMCA youth camp and they have been stellar to him. He's pretty severely ADHD and they have not only done their best to help him in the right direction, they've let me know where our shortcomings were and how they corrected them on the spot. They are honest and it was actually one of the more affordable camps. They provide breakfast, they swim every day, they help him in any way. He needs help... I will definitely be bringing him back next year. Weeks at the YMCA summer camp and he is learning all kinds of new social skills and I couldn't be happier.

I was a member until 1/31/2023. The price per month, went up to more than I wanted to pay. I went to cancel my membership, and still was told that I need to pay another month. That was the purpose of canceling my membership. If the YMCA is customer friendly, then why not let the customer go without a penalty. It's just a way to make as much money as possible. Never going back.

I have a great deal of admiration for the coaches and referees at the Hixson Family YMCA who work with the youth basketball league. The refs donβt just make calls, they take the time to explain to the player why the call is made and what they need to do. The coaches are so motivating and positive. My grandson is in the 8 year old basketball league and it is delightful to watch. Very good parking and plentiful bleachers for viewing. Very well done!

The changing rooms can be confusing, too.

RUNNN RUNNN!!HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I booked a party for my son on 10/8 and which I recieved a email saying October 1(was totally wrong) first mistake! Then upon me and my son guest getting ready to sing happy birthday to him, THE STAFF ENTERED INTO MY SON PARTY UNANNOUNCED RUSHING ME TELLING ME ITS TIME FOR ME TO WRAP IT UP AND WITH HER SHE HAD A CLEANING LADY WITH SUPPLIES TO HELP HER! I still had 30 mintues and I also paid 50.00 for a additional hour FOR MY PARTY PLANNER! In which the door was not unlocked for her to get in!! The entire experience was HORRIBLE, RUSHED, and INTIMIDATING WITH THE STAFF INTRUDING ON MY SON SPECIAL MOMENT! Not a WAY TO TREAT YOUR MEMBERS! I WILL NOT BE RENEWING MY MEMEBERSHIP AT THIS LOCATION!! ONLY GOOD CAME OUT OF THIS ENTIRE SITUATION IS THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE HEAD LADY CONTACT INFORMATION For me TO ADDRESS MY CONCERNS AND UNFORGIVABLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! MICHAEL DAVENPORT THANKS SO MUCH FOR GOING THE EXTRA MILE WITH TRYING TO HELP ME!

I am a huge fan of the YMCA. Great place for classes and child care/activities. People are not pretentious and it is a comfortable environment. People seem to follow the clean your own equipment rule and the facility is maintained well. My only complaint is the age/sometimes cleanliness of the pool locker rooms and a lot of the YMCA's classes at North River are during working hours ie if you work 8-5 you will miss several of them. Overall I highly recommend

I brought up my concerns with this Y about their child care situation not meeting our needs and no one really cared. Each time Id check in the online system didnt work, not once in the 9 months I worked out there, so I had to do a paper sign in. three different employees said they would look into it for me and no one ever did. Already feeling a little uncomfortable with that, I kept bringing him hoping it would get better. It never did, he never seemed to enjoy it and this summer he would never let me leave him. When we arrived each time this summer the room was a mess and overcrowded. I tried several times b.c I really want him to be socialized well and able to hang out with other adults but its clear this is not the place for it. So if you are looking for a place for your kids to feel comfortable for you to work out, id keep looking. And as others have mentioned, the staff doesnt seem to care much. No one took my concerns that seriously and the manager I spoke to didnt even try to make a loyal customer happy. Not sure if there is other management who would care as when I asked to speak to someone else she refused to let me.

I went today to sign up my kid to this YMCA since I had a bad experience with the one at Shallowford Rd, they all the same no good customer service and no enthusiasm to help, not friendly at all. What I didn't like is the fact that after I went back in with my application, I was talking to the lady with the band aid on her hand, I asked her if she can put my CC information on the system while I'm there, I didn't feel comfortable leaving a payment information just so it can lay around that's a no no,
well, she didn't, I was not about to put on some paper my CC information, I asked her about swimming classes she said for a 13 year old would have to go on Saturdays with the adult class I'm not sure if that's how their program works for that particular location but for the other YMCA it doesn't , she said or private lessons, when I'm trying to get him to socialize with other kids, he can only do classes with adults according to her, if she CRAZY or perhaps another one who see skin color and he isn't good enough to go to kids swimming class??? , I'm not going to let my 13 year old swim with a group of adults and their application for camping the questions are to personal. I did notice all YMCA apps are different. Well, I rip the app and dumped it in the trash my kid will not be attending this place either I saw it all in her face she gave me the impression she didn't want to help anyway or wanted him there, and she doesn't have to worry he won't be going to this place either.

The hot tub made some loud noise that made ME feel the need to get out. I pulled the emergency string thinking it was foe any type emergency. Apparently not. Its only for human emergencies NOT mechanical. Life guard guy was furious. As I calmed down from his arrogance I came to realize I shouldn't have done it. Mainly bc when it was all over and settled back down and one of the actual ymca guys came in, some older guy was sitting in there with the same noise still going on lol. Hey YMCA can u do another drawl string and label it mechanical. That way those coming after me could seek semi quick assistance for STUFF like that. I am so thankful Hixson location has the hot tub in the mens room. Oh how relaxing when operating properly.
Excuse me sending from screen medded up cell phone.
