Pretty good gym and good people but they don't manage the comp kids classes (which happen more than once per day at peak hours). You end up spending a lot of time watching kids hog the wall and run over your chalk bag.

OnSight is a well run independent climbing gym. We pop in when passing thru Knoxville and have the opportunity, most recently for a climbing competition. We have nothing but good experiences in the three years since we were first introduced.

Great Gym with excellent route setting and solid grading. Lot's of great dyno boulders (not that I'm a fan) and good variety of wall shapes/angles. Parking area is a bit small for a gym this size so I recommend getting there early and hang boarding in your van like me.

This place is pretty awesome...it costs a bit more than the other rock climbing centers we've recently gone to in Knoxville, but i can see why, it is way bigger, better, and nicer at this one, it makes sense that their prices r a bit higher....at the cheaper place we couldn't even climb barely bc it was so packed there weren't any open harnesses and it was tiny and cramped feeling and we lit couldn't climb most of the time (and the wall was miniscule compared to this one)....BUT THIS PLACE was great, there was plenty enough spots for my son and I to b able to climb constantly, even tho they had a decent amount of ppl in there at the time... There's just so many spots to climb, it really is a cool place...we aren't pros by any means, but we do enjoy going out and climbing here n there and this is def a great spot to do it!! They also have a seperate kids area with special walls for them to climb, a playset with slide, and a party room type deal...they also have that free climb area for bouldering without a harness, and that area was really cool looking and it's wild the things some ppl can do, pretty cool!!...the upstairs had sum other interesting areas plus sum workout type stuff n hangout type areas....the main wall area downstairs is just huge tho, with many spots to climb, and climb HIGH..very cool wall with really fun climbing areas...we loved it!!! Def recommend this spot

So I finally tried Onsight this year, and I was not dissappointed. The walls are about 55 feet high, and the autobelays feel responsive when you jump. The holds are set very well- I've only found one loose one so far (that's just something you should expect for any climbing place haha) Staff are friendly and helpful. It can get quite busy, but there's a sufficient amount of walls and route for toprope and bouldering to cover a crowd. The landing pads for bouldering are quite comfy concealed under the elevated gray floor- soft enough to drop from the full height (20-25 feet?) and not shock your legs, but firm enough to not feel like you're gonna roll an ankle. While they are a bit more pricey than somewhere like Riversports, they have a lot more to offer- so it makes up the cost quickly in the value. I definitely recommend going here!
Have fun- turn off that brain and send it!🀘

I've been a member of this gym off and on for years, while I do like the route setting, I never fail to leave frustrated because the gym is always overrun by kids. Its clear that they prioritize the kids groups over their members and will often have entire sections roped off for the kids climbing comps leaving little room for members. Its also almost impossible to find parking during peak hours, somedays I show up and just drive home because its not worth fighting the crowd AND getting my car towed. Their prices keep rising and ya, they offer discounted day passes but that doesn't do anything to help the people who have day jobs and they combined all of their discounts nights into one night. Unfortunately, its really the only gym in Knoxville so there's no choice but to keep coming back but I would not recommend.

Visited from out of town to boulder. The bouldering area is rather small, and it was very difficult to work around the kids class (6pm on a Monday). It would help if they were limited to a certain section instead of jumping all over the wall.

Staff was friendly, and sign-up was easy, but would not recommend.

So excited to have jumped back on the wall and bring friends who have never climbed!

Jake was so sweet. The whole staff was kind and helpful, facility nice and clean, beautifully tall walls, great routes and perfectly sized, intimate boulder area.

Recommend for first timers and seasoned climbers alike. I will be back.

The space inside was predominantly top-roping with a small bouldering section. I’ve traveled to several climbing gyms and I found it unusual that the staff was setting mid day in two separate sections (one of which was only having one route added) which ended up occupying most of the area. Unfortunately my experience at this gym was a bit of a let down due to this but I appreciated the great customer service from Andrew.

Great little climbing gym on the west side of town. We did day passes while visiting the Knoxville area. Rope walls look awesome but we only got on the bouldering wall. Though the bouldering area is relatively small, there are tons of great problems and the route setting is excellent and thoughtfully done. The training area upstairs is also small but has everything you'll need - squat racks, dumbbells, campus boards, and a kilter board. The staff were also really helpful and super kind. Highly recommended!

Won’t let you take your shirt off. Prioritize kids program over membership climbers. Ends up being almost impossible to climb when kids classes are going on (4:30-6:30). Membership is not worth it at all when you consider there’s no showers or other amenities that are usually included for that kind of price. Definitely going to making the switch as soon as the new bouldering gym opens up.

Insane that they charge $90 a month for a gym thats smaller than other gyms around the country and don't change the routes very often. Love paying to not be able to climb half the gym for a week every month because of competitions and routes being set for competitions making them all v12s. Another sad example of a climbing gym making as much money as they can since there aren't other options, also so many kids classes where the top rope section is packed with them

Love this place! Brought my sister here for a few hours a couple of weeks ago, and we explored every corner of it! They have great rentals, awesome facilities, safe self-belay systems, a huge bouldering section, kids area, and more. I wish there were more locations as I get ready to move 25 minutes away! I stopped in for a workout while traveling. Onsight had everything I needed for a training session. The setting was good, grades were what I expected and consistent. The workout area upstairs had a little bit of everything so you can do your push, pull, press and hinge. They also have a couple boards and campus setup. We had my daughter's 6th birthday here and it was wonderful. It was easy to schedule and the communication with the venue was easy. It was a good atmosphere for a kids birthday party because it was contained in a smaller room where everyone could mingle but the kids were still able to run around, play, and get some energy out. The kids were having so much fun that I had trouble getting them to slow down enough to eat cake! Highly recommended.

Expensive membership and day pass prices for what the gym offers compared to others in the industry. Renting atc’s rather than equipping gym with devices like grigri’s on top ropes is questionable, this along with requiring climbers to tie figure 8’s rather than providing triple locker carabiners for top rope makes the gym feel unsafe and unapproachable for beginner climbers. In my opinion ropes are not changed frequently enough making climbing on top rope with your own gri gri an uncomfortable and unenjoyable experience. These come across to me as cost reducing efforts and seem to push new climbers to the auto belays even when in pairs which clogs access for solo climbers. Bouldering wall is already limited by space and often crowded partly due to the issues surrounding top ropes.

I started climbing at this facility last year as a complete beginner. The staff have been incredibly welcoming, kind, and helpful. I now have a membership and go several times a month. Every time I go, I find something new to climb. I've been able to visit other gyms in the area and one in NC and nothing compares so far. I'm truly grateful for all the precautions they take to stay open in these unprecedented times because I have no idea what I'd do if they closed. Keep up the great work!

I’ve had really good experiences with Onsight. The sport climbs (lead wall, top rope section & auto belays) and boulder problems are well set and frequently changed. I also appreciate the dedicated training sections upstairs, which includes a tension board, limited free weights (specifically a squat rack and deadlift station), and hang boards, etc.

The gym is also very kid-friendly, with a separate room of easier autobelays, a kiddie bouldering wall, and slide.

I recommend going on off hours during the week to avoid the crowds!

Overall climbing is good. The prices are a little higher than some other gyms but still worth it. The bathrooms and water fountains are not as clean as you would expect from such a health concerned business. They are also kind of difficult about newer or first time climbers. I’ve see multiple told they don’t have time to teach belaying to and they should come back for a scheduled class. This is aggravated by the fact they have a no teaching policy. So you can’t help your friends get ready for the belay certification. Still it’s the best option in Knox and I keep feeling like I get my money’s worth.

Huge facility, great kids climbing area, the staff is kind and helpful - so much fun! The employees in charge of the kids groups could be slightly more attentive - I was basically babysitting a few kids who were supposed to be in an employee led group. I was helping several children clip in and out of their harnesses and many of them asked me to go to the bathroom (which I didn't feel comfortable doing since they weren't mine, so I directed them to the front desk to ask for help.) Super friendly climbing gym with lots of options for climbing.

Lots of solo and group climbers who always seem happy to add another person into their belay/climbing experience. Don't be shy about asking to join in or letting the staff know that you're looking for a climbing buddy - they're a great resource!

They offer multiple auto belay routes (including in the beginners room), top rope routes, lots of lead routes, and a bouldering wall. They change multiple routes per week, so it's fun to come back and try whatever is new.

During COVID - masks are required for everyone in the gym. They also ask everyone to wash their hands when they enter. Definitely appreciate that attention to avoiding the spread.

I would love to give this place 5 stars but the fact that my group of 9 had to wear masks the WHOLE time we're rock climbing is ridiculous.
If I'm scared or anyone else is scared of getting sick, they would be staying home. Not rock climbing.πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ
Other than that is was super fun!πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

Nice mid sized gym with very friendly staff. Facilities were very clean as well which was really nice. Every route I climbed was set really well. Will definitely swing by if I'm ever driving through again.

Came here while on business travel to boulder and work out. Onsight sets some good thinking problems, and the V ratings were on par with other gyms I've been to. Good community of very strong climbers!

Onsight Rock Gym is an ideal location for new and experienced climbers. The staff are incredibly helpful, the facility is clean and bright. There is a room specifically for new climbers that has both auto belay and free climb options. There is a bouldering area with a comfortable landing pad, and the main climbing area supports auto belay, human belay, and clip in options. It's a great place to spend a day.

My first time climbing was with Inam at ladies night. She did a good job of introducing lady climbers to each other and she's so encouraging and definitely a big reason why I immediately felt so comfortable at this gym!!!

Overall, I really did enjoy my visit to this gym and wish it had been here when I still lived in Knoxville. There are definitely some things they want to improve in case a larger gym chain like High Point comes to Knoxville.

The good:
-The staff were excellent, very welcoming.
-Tall rope walls
-Good variety of overhanging, dihedral, vertical, and even much more slab climbing than most gyms this size
-Fun technique-oriented routes at all grades

The bad:
-The vinyl floor of the bouldering room makes for much harder landings than the carpeted/padded floors of most gyms
-The bouldering holds were absolutely filthy. My favorite gyms all power wash their holds at every reset. The holds at this bouldering area were so covered in chalk and shoe marks, that my biggest struggles were figuring out which holds went with each route. This problem didn’t seem to exist in the rope area.
- The route tags include the date created. I saw rope routes that were 2-3 months old. If I was a member of this gym, I’d be disappointed to see it take so long to have new routes set. If bouldering routes take this long to be set as well, that may explain why the holds were so filthy.
- The top ropes have way too much friction. With the ropes they are using, double wrapping at the top makes them far to difficult to pull. There was a route I wanted to attempt but couldn’t because my wife wasn’t strong enough to belay with it. Even when I hung with all my weight on one end with the other end disconnected from anyone, I barely moved.

John was super helpful and very friendly, and the top roping was stellar. I truly enjoyed my time in that portion of the gym, and I think the routesetters did a fantastic job.

However the bouldering section of the gym should be addressed. The routes themselves might very well be excellent, but there's not a great way for a climber to discern that because every hold is completely caked with chalk and grime. This is incredibly correctable via a tarp and a good pressure washer when the routes are due for resetting, so I implore those in a position to make that change to do so.

Overall, it's a solid climbing gym, and Knoxville is quite lucky to have such a facility. I think a couple of key changes to ensure the cleanliness of the holds would take this gym from good to phenomenal.

My family and I love this place! We come here pretty frequently and enjoy it. The walls are fun because they have all levels and self belays too! The boulder selection of the gym is also nice because it is so large. They also have a whole young kids section with all self belays. The staff and atmosphere is really nice . Although the price is a bit high it is so worth it. I can't wait to come back for the millionth time and would recommend this place to other climbers!

Onsight Rock Gym is a wonderful facility! My husband and I are beginners at rock climbing, and the staff have been very welcoming since our first day at the gym. Inam is an excellent staff member, and has been by our side the entire way. She is very supportive and provides excellent instruction on rock climbing and top rope belaying. Check this place out!

This was our second time . First time was great. The gentleman that assisted us the first time with our 3 years old . This time we were treated very poorly. We walked in and we're greeted by a young lady that seemed to think that we shouldn't be there because she kept asking if we where sure that we had been there before. We paid for our 17 year old and our 3 year old . Then as we turned around to take our 3 year old to climb in the area they have for little ones, we saw it was closed for yoga. We asked about it and where told that we can have a refund if we did the want to wait for yoga to be over. WHAT....SERIOUSLY. sold me a ticket to climb then offer a refund . No thank you , my 3 years old wants to climb not leave. Thank you for the great customer service as we walked out.

Great environment where the staff members are super helpful. There is a separate section for kids/beginners so you won’t feel embarrassed if you are trying this for the first time. There are a lot of walls for anyone of any level to challenge themselves. Perfect place to spend a weekend with family and friends.

I've been to many gyms over the 20+ years I've been climbing, and Onsight is without doubt my favorite. High quality creative route setting, frequent route refreshing, friendly and personable staff, awesome kids section (with a boulder-slide combo!), clean and well looked after. Love this place!

Always a great experience at Onsight!! We have been to many gyms across the country, but the personal attention and encouragement received here is like none other!! They treat you like family! Good variety of routes, as our family of 3 climbing abilities vary greatly!!πŸ˜‚ They have routes to service the beginner to the advanced climber. We appreciate the owners listening to feedback as well!!

I did a really great five week tour of south east sandstone, starting at the New, then Red and finishing at the Obed. By the time we got to Knoxville the weather was beginning to turn and we had to deal with a fair amount of rain. Onsight Rock Gym was a perfect place to keep the climbing going in spite of the weather. The staff was super friendly, lead routes were really well thought out with great flow. I'm not much of a bouldered but what I did sample there was very good. Oh and I took an amazing yoga class there as well. Don't miss this place if you find yourself in Knoxville, as modern climbing gyms go this place is a gem.

Onsight is overall an amazing fun gym I definitely recommend!!

I live in Chatt and the only downside is not having a gym like Onsight here. A place to climb and train, get your workout in! The kids section does not detract or cause distraction so it’s great for all ages and for all levels! Friendly great staff and walls are set to meet every climbers need. They don’t solely promote just gym climbers but encourage everyone to get outside. So aside from actually climbing outside this can’t be beat!

I’ve been to a lot of rock gyms over the past 5 years and this one is by far the worst. The holds were disgusting. The bouldering section was lack luster. The staff did not seem like they wanted to be there. I will say that their lead section is pretty nice; however, they do not have that many top roping routes. I’ve been twice now and will not be returning; it is just unfortunate that it is the only legitimate climbing gym in Knoxville.
