This is a great place for everyone, including those residentially challenged individuals who are iin desperate need of personal hygiene maintainence i.e. a shower, just show your ID at the front desk and let them know you are between residents, AND they will let you take a shower. Don't abuse this though by trying to go into the other parts of the facility or sit in the front lounge and sip on their free to members only coffee. Be courteous, and after signing in, go take a shower, get dressed, and say thank you as you leave.

Wish I could give a 4.5 star. My wife and I really enjoy working out at this Y and the amenities Y membership offers - pools, saunas, steam rooms, ch8ld care, etc. I have a couple colleagues at work whose kids want to come to this Y's kids care area to play. The only complaints we have are the weekend hours closing at 6 pm. The rare occasions I've worked out past 8pm, the gym is basically empty. Wish they could close at 9 pm on week days and open later on the weekends. Often after work it can be super crowded too.

I had the worst experience with them yesterday. Booked a birthday party got there they couldn’t find the paperwork could find deposit. Thank goodness I had a copy of both . We had a birthday here 2 years ago in the inside pool with no issues this time we booked for outside just the worse experience the manager that was on duty was beyond rude kept harassing us to finish payin for the party while the party was going on when before we payed the balance at the end . He acted like we were going to walk out or something . Contract I signed said 30 kids 20 swimmers . He asked me how many ppl I said 35 but all may not show up we ended up having 24 people total and he charged us an extra 55 dollars on top of the 300 sayin we had extra kids and we did not . He went over there to the people and just assumed all the black ppl were with me and that’s how he got all the extra people I will never book with them again . Unorganized unprofessional. I don’t advise anyone else to either

I don't give one star reviews and this review is mostly about the pool and administration. We have been members at the y for several years and coming to the pool here each summer. But each summer we have the same very consistent issues. We've learned to call and make sure the pool is open. And ask if there are enough lifeguards to staff the pool so that we can actually swim when we get there. There has been many times when we arrive and are told we cannot swim for various reasons even though we called to check and make sure the pool was open and that we would be able to swim. Today I called and asked specifically if we would be able to swim. They told me it would be open until 6. I asked if there was a swim meet or any reason we would not be able to swim and was told that we would be able to swim. We and our guests drove half an hour in rush-hour traffic only to be told that we, as usual, would not be able to swim. One of the most frustrating parts is the only remediation they can offer is a half hearted apology.

The Pilot YMCA is the only location with an outdoor pool in Knoxville and they repeatedly miscommunicate about what time the pool is open. I am finally writing a review after the fourth time this has happened- driving 20+ minutes to swim at this Y only to arrive and it be closing within 10 minutes, after I called ahead for the closing time and was told something different. They are unbothered for the inconvenience and disappointment it causes for my young children every single time. Just be warned, this pool does this repeatedly. Every summer.

This review is based off of the snotty lifeguard we encountered when going to this location red head with glasses was completely unprofessional and made my son do a series of unnecessary things to be able to stand in a 4 foot pool which he is only maybe inch off from his armpits not to mention was swimming all day with no problems till this particular lifeguard came on we will not be back to this location just because of her and I hope someone gets her name and reports her

I absolutely love this gym, however, one of the managers by the name of Pam at this Ymca unfortunately seems to treat her coworkers like she’s a jail warden at Alcatraz. We don’t care if y’alls workers are actually enjoying their time working lol, we’re here to work out, not look to see if your dang employees are staring at the wall at attention with their uniforms pressed and shoes shined. Life is to short to be walking about making other’s lives miserable just because their “on the job”. Pam seems to need to be reminded that having people work under you doesn’t give you the authority to treat them less than how you treat yourself. The golden rule Pam, the golden rule.

There is a lifeguard named Ben that is absolutely terrible. He will NOT allow you to enjoy your time with your family, as he is ALWAYS finding something to complain/get on to everyone about. Several other families have had the same complaints about him and will actually avoid coming if he is on duty. It has gotten so bad that we are having to go to management and file a formal complaint. They obviously hire the bottom of the barrel that other respectable companies have rejected, and for obvious reasons. Don’t waste your $75 a month. You will be much better off going elsewhere!

If you are thinking about planning a birthday party here! DONT! They charge 250 for two hours just to share the pool with the public! Then they only let you swim for a hour and the other hour is dedicated to cake and ice cream. I had to tell my daughter she couldn’t get back in the pool on her birthday after paying TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS! HIGHWAY ROBBERY! And the communication at this location is awful!

We enjoyed the outdoor pool this time at this location and it was AMAZING! All of the staff was very friendly and the check in process was fast and efficient.

The locker rooms are newer and seemed clean from a surface level. Our time in the pool was enjoyable since they have a small pool for younger babies and toddlers and then the bigger pool for older kids and adults.

There are areas that are shaded, grassy and on the concrete. This spot also has picnic tables that have an umbrella attachment.

We will be back again!

About time I leave a review of this truly excellent facility. I was hesitant to join two years ago, thinking it wouldn’t compare to the national clubs but was I wrong! The pools! Outdoor 10-lane pool is beautifully situated while 6-lane indoor pool has a ton of professionally-led programs. Spin studio is downright fun. Full-size basketball courts, in-house child-care while you work out, and super-friendly and knowledgeable staff. But the fitness studio! Wow. Full-suite of Matrix Fitness equipment, separate room with free weights, about 12 treadmills, tons of ellipticals, plenty of dumbbells, mirrored walls, and more! Need personal trainers? They’ve got ‘em! Not to mention tennis courts a short walk away and easy access to a greenway for cycling, walking, and jogging. This really is a first-class fitness and health club! And reasonable rates for individuals and families! Love this place!

Outdoor Pool was amazing, the locker rooms have much room for improvement. Floor all throughout building are wet with with children not drying off. Now, I've only been a member for a little over a week so take that for what it's worth. I've been to the facility 8 or 9 times in that time frame though. So far it's very well kept. The machines are clean and they all do what they should. You can login on some of the equipment to track your workouts and that function doesn't always work but it's not required to use it so it's not a big deal. My kids love playing basketball in the gym and one of them loves to swim. Lots of activities. The staff so far have been very friendly and engaging as well. So far I'm happy and have no issues. We love it. Summer is starting soon and they'll love having use of the outdoor pool too.

Group swimming lessons were great, mainly because the indoor pool is very heated. In fact I would recommend you do lessons here in the winter just to get thawed out now and then if you live with people who like to keep the house cold.

If you get bored, you can pretend to drown to check the lifeguard's reaction times. Those guys are pro.

The results of their efforts? I am generally able to stay alive in water, forget style or efficiency. Before taking lessons here, the likely outcomes were either certain death or Divine intervention. So round of applause to the instructors for sure.

If you're bored with the color of your swimwear, they are happy to help with that as well. After a few sessions in this pool, clothes that were black will fade to a great shade of gray.

Love the taste of bleach and chlorine after a hard day. Nothing quite like it.

There are a lot of amenities here such as showers, lockers, and pools. My disappointments in the YMCA are the following: lack of weights in the gym area (One leg press could easily take the majority of the weights). Benches are in bad shape, and the free weights are quite damaged from decades of us. Overall, it’s around 30 something dollars to join, but really wish with amount of members they would upgrade the gym area.

I am a 74 year old member. Thanks for the senior yoga classes. They are great. I train with Donna. She is also great. I usually get there about 30 minutes before training to work on the NuStep machine. After training, I stay for yoga. Overall I enjoy my membership. I want to compliment the awareness of the floor staff person Emily. I am usually wiping down the equipment and getting a pad for my back for using on the NuStep. I did not get a pad on Tuesday because other members in the area of the pads were not wearing masks. I have complained about this. So I started to work on the NuStep. Suddenly, Emily appeared with a pad for my back. She apparently noticed that I didn't get one and saw the person with no mask in the area. I so appreciate her attention to that detail and that she got the pad, cleaned it and brought it to me. She obviously knew why I didn't get the pad. That act by her made me feel good about my Y experience that day. Emily is friendly but yet a bit shy. She is always friendly with me. She is always cleaning equipment after members walk away. I enjoy working with Donna and Emily. However, I do not like working out when other people are not wearing a mask. There are two women and one man who never wear a mask. That is the only reason I didn't give a 5 rating. Thanks.

Not only has the West Side Y rebuild the outdoor pool and build brand new locker rooms, they have recently resurfaced the indoor pool and added new lockers to the indoor locker room. It's wonderful! I love my neighborhood Y! So many classes offered, from yoga, kickboxing and zumba to strength training and water aerobics. Something to fit any schedule or fitness level. There's also a workout space with your typical weights, elliptical machines and treadmills.I started working out about a year and a half ago and was pretty flabby. The staff is very encouraging and personal trainers are available to help you meet your fitness goals. I feel that I am well on my way to being healthier and am certainly less flabby now.👍Memberships are $50/month per person, $75/month for a family (3people). Student and reduced fee rates are available, as are scholarships. Just talk to someone at the front desk.Check out the list of classes online.

Childcare is excellent---plenty of space and things to keep kids of all ages busy. (My boys are 4, 7, 9 and 12). The pool temp is perfect. Lap lanes are really busy but open up frequently. Free swim area varies but has a ramp entry. Pickleball crowd is a mix of super nice people and a few not wild about newcomers. In Open gym there are 4 basketball hoops of varying heights. Outdoor pool is being remodelled for summer 2020. Fitness/karate classroom and exercise equipment are great.
