Incompetent front desk staff who can't get you signed up with the right type of membership if you have a health insurance program. I went in on April 24th to sign up and it took two guys to try and figure it out. They still had to FaceTime their boss who walked them through the steps (and it was still wrong). When I realized I was getting billed, I called the gym to try and get it sorted out. The employee this time was able to freeze my membership until I'm back in the country but told me there was no direct way to reach his manager? I have to wait until they reach out to me to get any refunds resolved. The recent reviews are an accurate representation of the current state of the gym as well.

Edit to add: I’ve stopped by the gym twice now and the regional manager has not been in and none of my requests to get a call back from them have worked. Not sure where this guy is or who I’m supposed to contact to get a refund when YOUR staff entered my information incorrectly and I was wrongfully charged.

Second edit: once I was able to stop in when the regional manager (?) was in store, getting it sorted out and refunded was a breeze but it should not have taken as long as it did for that.

I’m over the road Truck Driver so I go to different planet fitness gyms in different states in different cities. Quite often the mood here is relaxing is chill. No big deal. I like it. But these are the most disgusting showers I have ever been in like I said, I’m over the road Truck Driver so I go to showers a lot and truck stops And they are immaculately clean compared to what I have seen over here the past two days. I worked out yesterday 8-13-2025. want to take a shower afterwards grow test clumps of hair little Nat bugs along the wall disgusting tube of toothpaste on the floor. I used razor on the floor. I worked out the next day at the same place 8-14-2025. I use the same shower. It had not changed. It has not been cleaned the floor here is also disgusting hair all over the floor by the gym equipment. They don’t really try to vacuum up that it seems like. I never leave reviews, but I just want this place to be better than what it is. Something needs to be done and I have photos.

I’ve come to this Planet Fitness for a few years now, but recently there has been NUMEROUS occasions when I get there around 4:15 (15 minutes past opening time) and there is no one there to open it!!! There will be a parking lot full of cars waiting for the gym to open. Waited there until almost 4:45 today. Nothing. It’s ridiculous and it really affects people’s schedules. It’s hard enough to wake up that early in the morning to go to the gym but for it to be closed once you get there!? It’s so absurd. I’ve never written a review on any place before but it genuinely has screwed up so many of my mornings now.

Giving two stars cause up to this point I really haven't had a problem. However I hired a personal trainer to get serious of my workout . First day we want to get there early. Got there at 5am. An hour after they were supposed to be open. They were still closed. Many people were outside waiting for them to open so I decided to call the nearest one. When they answered I asked for. Manager to see if they could call someone. They told me manager wasn't there till 8 and there was nothing they can do. You would think this would be a reason to maybe CALL your manager and have them help the issue. THAT would've been called customer service. And maybe try to get ahead of any bad reviews. However they didn't seem interested. So thanks for ruining. My first day with personal trainer and not opening gym when online says you are supposed to be open!

I'm new to this area but I've always had a membership at PF. The Planet Fitness on Chapman highway, it's okay. I tried to go when the meter is low but even at a low meter it's pretty busy. You have to wait for pretty much everything except for cardio. It was discouraging to see how dirty certain areas were and most things are out of service or out of order, especially the bathrooms. Also, they use single ply toilet paper which sucks. At least give the girls double, hah. Aside from that, it smells good at this location. They must have a fantastic air filtration system because I don't smell dirty feet and ball sweat like I do at the other locations. The customers are horrible about sharing space and cleaning up their sweat off the machines. The staff (2 guys) were friendly and available. No big complaints. Clean more, fix more. The rest is great.

I've been coming to this gym a few years now, and the service has gotten increasingly worse. They used to have a pretty decent sized staff, and even though they were usually busy taking personal calls or socializing, I could typically get my needs met.

But now they are so short staffed that there usually isn't anyone at the front desk, and I don't have access to the black card benefits that I pay extra for (see attached). I checked their website and Facebook page for an email address to ask to have my fees discounted while they are "short-staffed," since I'm paying for services I can't use, but they don't leave any contact information for their clients. I finally tracked down an employee who said their supervisor is unavailable and they don't have contact information for a regional or district manager.

I can see why people are swarming over to Crunch. My friend goes there and only pays $25 a month, which comes with a guest pass and all of the amenities. Not to mention loads more equipment. I have stayed loyal to Planet Fitness because of its proximity to work. But I don't know if they care so little about their clients perhaps it is worth the drive over to Broadway. I would save money and get what I paid for. I mean, I don't even know why I pay for a membership. I could easily walk in, hold my phone up as if I'm checking in, and no one would be the wiser. It's pretty ridiculous.

EW. My first time experiencing Planet Fitness was at this location the past two weeks and I was highly disappointed in the cleanliness, or lack there of, of the facility. The dust bunnies were FLYING around every machine and made it hard to use the machines comfortably as I was breathing in dead skin and dirt. Highly disappointed in the cleaning crew here.

I visited this location for 2 weeks while I was on vacation and each time I went in, there were PILES of dust and hair everywhere on the floor. It surrounded each machine. The locker rooms, and all of the black card member rooms also had piles of dust everywhere in the corners on the floor. It looked like the whole place hadn’t been swept, vacuumed, or cleaned for months! On a good note- all of the staff was very kind, helpful, and friendly!

I gave it for stars because most of the staff is really nice and for a simple workout it's fine. What I don't like is the one man who was working this morning, Tuesday, 429. He's always rude and unpleasant. I don't like the fact that several of the tanning beds have missing bulbs and the rooms are always dirty. I know that people are supposed to clean up after themselves but I feel like the staff needs to come through every so often and clean the floor and wipe down the beds. My spray bottle didn't have much cleaning solution left in it when I cleaned my bed after I used it but nobody was at the front desk when I left for me to tell them.

10 out of 10 do not recommend. It's not necessarily this particular location, but it is planet fitness in general. If you want to cancel your membership, You have to either one go in in person and cancel it or two send a certified letter saying that you're canceling your membership. I've been charged twice now for membership that I thought I canceled. Once was for $50 in February 2025 and one for $110 in March 2025. I was just informed by my bank that even though I canceled my previous credit card so they wouldn't be able to make a transaction on my card that they do something called a forced transaction. Meaning that they can still charge your canceled card no matter what. So now I've had to put a stop transaction on planet fitness through my bank and I still have to go over there in person to cancel my membership. This is absolute bullshit. Never again!

I have been going to this PF location for 18 months 4-6 days per week. I have not seen it as clean as it has been since Mary and Matt started working there. Mary is constantly cleaning during her shift. She was pulling the treadmills out the other morning to vacuum under those. She is truly a worker bee. I generally go in at 4am when it first opens, but have been throughout the day and evening and I can tell you that I have NEVER seen someone work like she does. KUDOS to Mary. You are one of the NUMBER ONE reasons that I still go to this location.

It's good but make sure you don't use chime or cash app. They will recognize it as a third party bank and you will get late fees. Other than that it's super clean. The bench bars are all Smith machines so that's not awesome but not the worst. The water jet massage alone is worth getting a membership. The drinks aren't really half off. It's double price and you pay regular price when you have a black membership. But it's a really solid gym. Showers are private and clean.

An unpleasant start so far, but hope it changes. I had seen a promo about working out free until 2/23 on Facebook and also the club website itself. However when u came in the club member had no idea what I was talking about. I was planning to probably sign up anyway and saw the $1 down and free month for black card membership so decided to do that.

It wasn’t till after signing up and working out I saw a flyer with a little bit smaller print at bottom about needing to enter a code during the sign up process to get the free month. But nothing was mentioned to me as I was there signing up. I did bring it up to the staff member later and he mentioned he thought he may have applied but but wasn’t sure and to seek out manager or staff if it did not get applied. He was a helpful and nice guy.

A few days later the month charge did go through so that evening I asked who I’m guessing may have been a manager in a black shirt. He had no idea what I was talking about even though there’s flyers all around club and said his GM told him nothing. He wasn’t helpful and simply very discouraging start into going to this club altogether:(

For me, this is perfect. The location is so convenient, safe and clean. The employees are gracious, low-key and helpful. I do not feel any pressure, I have never had a bad experience. So grateful for them!
They have made some great changes--added new equipment and made the area seem more open and accessible. More weight machines are a plus and for an older lady like myself--the treadmills are much better--lower to the ground so I can get on them much easier and they are easy to navigate! Great job!

It's sad that a place filled with so many TVs there is no remote to change to a football game. They apparently are all stuck on whatever channel they are on. If u are trying to catch a football game while working out don't ask for a channel to be switched. God forbid. This is a follow up to the reply..I did speak to people at the desk on 2 occasions. The facility seems fine at first, but the longer you go the more issues there are. Staff is entirely untrained to handle anything other than the most basic customer service issues and the majority know absolutely nothing of fitness. They also seem to have a rather high turnover. The equipment is regularly breaking down and in poor states of maintenance. Step machines, row machines, paper towel dispensers, and the ceiling fans are constantly in a state of disrepair. Bolts have fallen off the safety rails on me on two separate occasions while using Smith machines. They also can't seem to hire a decent electrician as the store was regularly closed for the same kind of electrical work, or was open for business without the lights on.

Somebody needs to update the hours for holidays. They don’t have the information on Facebook either. It’s annoying to drive there and figure out that they’re closing early when their open hours are not updated. It’s really easy to do it. I’ll take this review down if management fixes the problem.

After being a Planet Fitness member for 4 years, I moved from Miami to Knoxville. I attempted to contact my club to change it to where I now live. I tried for NINE months, left many messages for the manager to return my calls, and called the corporate office, but only after I was the victim of identity theft and my payments to PF could no longer be processed did someone from PF contact me. But, they advised me that they could not update my home club until I updated my payment information. I told them that under no circumstances would I be updating my payment information until they updated my home address and club. I was told they would do this, but that was weeks ago and it still hasn't happened. They are good at taking your money but awful with customer service!

The Chapman Highway Planet Fitness Gym is a wonderful gym to workout in!!! The Staff is very friendly and helpful殺. The facility is well kept and clean. The environment is very pleasant. Although it's a struggle to get to the gym at times臘‍♀️, once I'm there the experience is well worth the effort. The staff's welcoming faces definitely adds to a great workout. I'd definitely recommend this facility. Oh!!! and the black card perks, particularly the water massage beds/lounges are an awesome way to end your workout experience. Not at all busy at 5:30 am on a Thursday, it was nice to get in, get a workout and a shower, then get out. No one else on the 30 minute circuit, which was great to not be distracted.

Showers were interesting. A large shower "cabin" that is u-shaped with a changing area included. I appreciate the privacy but there needs to be a chair in here. As well, the huge shower area made it a bit chilly.

No issues checking in with my Black Card membership. Overall, a positive experience.

I visit this gym so I can bring my 13 yr old nephew. It had been great until June 10, 2024, around 10 pm. The assistant manager body shamed him so badly. He was on my guest past that I use with my black membership and was refused to work out with me. I told her I was just going to tan and then leave. She told him he could not sit in the lobby to wait on me. So he had to wait out in the car. He cried so hard when I walked him out to the car saying...... aunt chrissy, this is why I hate myself, I'm too short! I videoed her when I left. I will put it in the pictures.

He also said I need to bring a birth certificate in for my nephew. He also said that his parents needed to sign a waiver. O k, i'm the guardian, so he said that's fine, that'll work. But I told him, "You will not have his birth certificate, you're crazy. Then he said, "Well, if I could just see it." And I told him no, sir. You will not look at his birth certificate or have a copy. What in the hell is going on with these planet Fitnesses, and how they run their facilities??????

I’ve been going to this location for about 5 years, and it has definitely declined. It has been soooo hot and stuffy. It feels like this is no air whatsoever. Additionally, all the treadmills under the fan are always broke for months…. They just recently got better about stocking paper towels. I've been going to this particular PF for about 2 years and things have gotten steadily worse to the point I can no longer keep saying "you get what you pay for" and make do with it.
I've made peace with the list of things that I've brought up to staff/management never getting fixed and taking away all the hand sanitizers throughout the gym(why?) but now the air conditioning hasn't been working very well and it's a miserable sauna especially in the afternoons. Cardio is hard enough without it being excessively hot everywhere except the locker room. The AC used to work...it doesn't anymore and none of the staff seem to be able to help or are even aware there is a problem.
I can't be the only one who thinks this Gym has quality issues.

Broken treadmills(for over a year)...the broke signs kept getting removed even though they were not fixed. I brought it to the managers attention at least 3 different occasions asking to put the broken signs back. They eventually put the signs on but put it on the wrong one which stayed on it for weeks until I verified it actually works. Management should have some sort of clue about the status of equipment in his gym.
No sanitizer except next to front door. People are gross...it's nice to be able to sanitize since some people rarely wipe things down after not washing their hands in the bathroom.
One rope pulldown attachment for everyone to share? There used to be two.
The only thing I've seen get better is they hired a professional to attach the soap dispensers in the men's room. They were previously held up by double sided tape and fell off on numerous occasions. So good job with improving the one thing.
I've brought these things up with managers and regional people thru emails but that hasn't worked so I thought I'd leave an honest review. The air conditioning is a deal breaker for me. I will find a way to pay for something better than the Chapman Highway Planet Fitness.

I’m a mom getting back into the gym for the first time in a while so not feeling as confident and it took a lot of courage for me to make myself go back into a gym, but after how incredibly rude and the lack of acknowledgment as a customer from the employees, not sure I’m comfortable going back. I left feeling very disheartened and upset thank God I have a black card membership and I can go to a different location if I need to. The gym its self is very nice. Tried to get a workout today, went to the smith machines for squats but all were taken by someone on their phone, so I went to the plate loaded leg press and a woman threw her shoes at it before I made it and said she was going to use it, I go to the two leg press machines and both were taken by someone on there phone, I go the the leg extension machines and one is broken and the other is taken by a person on there phone again. So I sat a waited on any of those machines to open up for 30+ minutes but they never did, also the women that threw her shoes at the legpress kept slapping and rubbing the inside of her legs in a very weird way and another guy was chanting "alligator bite" loudy while he worked out.

Four months later, this gym has somehow regressed even farther. The staff is a revolving door constantly, and there is seemingly NO manager running the facility. We drive all the way to the gym for a staff member to not even be there on time to open the doors SEVERAL times a week. Nobody seems to care about this gym and it shows. Truly the worst gym I’ve ever been to. Looking to join a more expensive gym down the road!

This is literally the worst gym I have ever been to. At least 10 days out of the month there are issues with either the morning shift workers showing up to their shift or lighting issues where we drive 20 minutes to the gym only to be sent home. Due to our schedules, we can only work out in the mornings and I can count 20 times in the last 6 months that we have been in this area where we were unable to work out due to an issue at the gym (which isn’t open 24 hours). The gym smells and so does the equipment. The morning shift worker always leaves to buy coffee and cigarettes as soon as he clocks in, leaving the gym unattended. He also has a habit of showing up 10-20 minutes late when the gym hours begin at 4am. It has been reported several times to management, who seemingly does not care. Only generic responses from management to concerned members on their reviews as well. It doesn’t do any good to report issues, as they continue to happen. If the “club management are all ears” like you say, why do no changes take place— ever? After months of pleading. Very disheartening and we would go to a different gym if one was in the area.

UPDATE:
Do not bother emailing the email they provide to you in response to your review because they won’t help— it’s the email to their social media management and not actually someone willing to address any issues. Pretty misleading

I am a new member and have been going here for about a week. I arrived here this morning at 4am, when they are supposed to be open. It’s now 4:15 and the gym has not opened yet. Several other people were also here and just left. This location already has limited hours, this is disappointing.

Update the opener finally showed up at 4:30. 30 minutes of wasted time.

I had been a member billing started charging me double for 5 months after I brought it to their attention they made it right I guess I didn't have to pay for 5 months but I don't understand why I couldn't have got my money back for those months.but anyway I enjoyed my time ..then in May my mom got sick and somebody had to be with her around the clock...
She passed and now I was trying to get started back and you tell me I owe $240 for six months including late fees... when I wasn't paying but $240 plus fees for a whole year (black card).... Not paying $500 for black card (Very disappointed

Great gym with everything you need! I’ve been working out here for 4 years at the busiest times of day and rarely have a problem getting the equipment I need. Plenty of space so it doesn’t feel elbow to elbow like some gyms. Overall, clean, safe, well lit, well spaced and you can’t beat the value!

Been a member for almost a year and a half. I appreciate the perks of black card membership. I don’t like the hours being cut at our local PF which requires us to travel 30 minutes to complete workouts late when time does not allow during normal hours. Lack of free weights and space in the dumbbell section is also a draw back. That section is always packed with gym bros who take thier time and sometimes I’ll have to skip that part of my workout because even waiting for space to open up is exhausting.

I did have to get another membership at Golds gym to supplement the hours and availability of the free weights section as well as the cable machines.

I still recommend because you get what you pay for and it isn't bad for that reason. I still wish they’d take some action on some of these problems. There is a stinky guy who seems to live there which can be overwhelming. I do wish they’d ask him to either wash himself or wear deodorant. When this many people complain about the same guy (we all know who it is) it is a problem regardless of the “no judgement zone” mantra. If it disrupts the experience for many members it IS A PROBLEM.

I had to cancel my membership after making multiple complaints about a notorious and disgusting individual who has the most foul stinking BO I’ve ever smelled in my life. This person apparently gets multiple complaints a month from other customers, and the staff do nothing but suggest to him that he wear deodorant. Not only does he stink, he walks around the gym the entire time he is there, so he is inescapable, and he’s there nearly every day, and spends 4-5+ hours at the gym so you can’t avoid him. I felt sick and violated by his presence and feel he should have had his membership revoked. Absolutely disgusted that Planet Fitness staff did nothing to create a safer environment for their customers.

Today November 15, 2023 I reported a TV that has had no sound available for weeks. Two attendants behind the check In counter where present. One of them said, oh ya we know about it but can't do anything about it. I said we'll call your manager. He said we don't have a manager. Now I'm trying to a regional provider to report too.

Giving this location 2 stars because the staff at the front desk were really friendly and super helpful when I came in to sign up today. However, I must say this location does not seem like it gets cleaned daily or even weekly. Way too much dust and hair accumulated in corners, on machines, and along the baseboards. I paid roughly $68 dollars when I signed up today. The fee states that it helps to keep the place running, but apparently does not help to keep it clean. I had to wear a mask during my workout because I knew all the dust would irritate my sinuses. This location is also quite small, which I know is not the fault of the staff, but just giving a heads up. This location happens to be the one nearest to me, so I will return, but seriously, this place needs to be deep cleaned yesterday.

Still very dusty and the stairmasters are always broken. 1 out of 4 are currently working. The front desk staff doesn't always greet you. Which doesn't make sense to me because isn't that reason they're at the front?

I like this gym but there’s a middle aged guy who works at the front desk with glasses and salt and pepper hair. He is at the desk when I arrive and leave and insists on a greeting, but always happens to be checking equipment or cleaning near wherever I am working out often for the duration of my time there. I’m a woman in my late 20s. I’m too nervous to leave a complaint in person and also skeptical of its effectiveness hence this review.

1st time ever being in the Knoxville TN one, which is where I used to live in Seymour. And I loved it!! Very clean, front desk help was amazing. Beds different then Northport AL....but I loved them!! And the optional fans for the face are really nice. Would go there again!!

Tanning beds are always broken or bulbs not working they use any and every reason to close down and they already changed the times they closed to make it impossible for some members to even use the facility. The whole point of a membership here was the 24 hours and now you can't even get them to stay open 12 hours. They never respond when you send them an email about concerns they just do not care about their business nor customers

This gym is ALWAYS closed for one reason or another. We drive nearly 20 minutes to come to this gym and it is the closest one around us, sadly. Whether it’s the workers not showing up for their shift, to workers showing up smelling like straight up alcohol, to now being closed for days on end due to power outages— patrons should be compensated for showing up to a gym that isn’t open. Why are we paying $10-$20 a month when at least 5 days out of the month the doors are closed until someone wakes up late for their shift? This location isn’t even 24 hours, so if the employee doesn’t show up, paying customers are screwed. Especially those whose only available time to workout is before work in the mornings! Also the gym has a permanent smell and it’s not a good one. This place cycles through workers more than any of us can keep up with and is seriously lacking in good hygiene and customer service practices.

I was in town for a couple of months and needed a gym to go to. I signed up for a Black card membership, thinking that I could cancel after the second month and not be charged the annual fee. Turns out, they charge you no matter what (you have to cancel before DEC 26 lol... I signed up in May) and DO NOT make it clear in their contract. I would not have signed up for a PF membership had I realized that I would be getting charged over $100 for two months of membership. And OF COURSE they couldn't do anything. I am a college student! I can't afford to pay $100 for 2 months of working out! I do NOT recommend PF to anyone.
