Matt is one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. When I was at my lowest, Matt was a friend to me. His gym embodies, and is a testament, to who he is - strong, resilient, and good. It’s not an exaggeration to say Matt saved my life. And now, one of my best friends. On top of all this, it’s the best gym in America and oftentimes the highlight of my day. Humbly, I couldn’t recommend it enough and I’m grateful for not only the people but the place. Conquer the last rep!

Can’t say enough about this guy, a Nashville icon. Great metal gym that has everything you need, and an even greater community. Matt won’t let you slide by without meeting everyone in the gym with you.

Thanks for everything Matt! Member for 2 years.

I stopped by here nearly a decade ago to grab a day pass. Exactly what you want out of a lifting focused gym.

Poe’s gym is iconic! It’s the “Cheers” of gyms and not your momma’s gym! It’s a place where everyone knows your name and it’s a true training environment. The members are supportive of each other as well as the owner, Matt Poe! Matt takes a real interest in every member and their goals beyond just their fitness desires. He truly invests in their needs whether it’s a personalized fitness program that he writes or if it’s aligning a member with others who have similar interests. I’ve been a member for 6 years and during this time I’ve witnessed Matt give back to the community during times of need through his Christmas Angel programs, his contributions to St Jude through lifting with Omegaforce and spearheading the reopening of gyms in Nashville during COVID. Matt Poe personally dedicated his time and authored the campaign to the city council which in fact, proved to be the reason all gyms were allowed to reopen in a time of great need in the city. The amount of positive things which can be said are endless about this gym. It may not be the right place for you but it’s the only place for me and my family! Thank you Matt Poe and Poe’s Gym for being what my daughter and I consider our fitness “Home!”

I have been working out for years in Nashville and Poes Gym is hands down the best gym.
The owner Matt lets you know every day at the gym that he appreciates you being there.
Every member motivates each other to strive to be stronger and healthier. Poes is the best!!

Other reviews state if you are in town for a week you might be able to stop in and work out, that review was 3 years ago so things have changed, was made very clear to me on the phone they don’t accept drop ins or people in town for a week.

Poe's gym is a throwback to the old-school gyms of the 70s and 80s. No purple machines. No fancy treadmills. No HIIT classes. No ice plunges. Just benches, squat racks, a dead lift area, lots of plates and dumbbells, and some cable machines in a partitioned off warehouse.

Usually when I'm there, there's a handful of other people working out there. Matt, the owner, introduces everyone and makes everyone feel welcome. That alone, separates out the Poe's gym experience from any other.

A group of us all bench press together on Saturdays and I have met some cool people as part of that experience (and have gotten stronger in the process).

Needed a place to train while in Nashville on a vacation. This place is great and Matt is very welcoming. The rules are really enforced here unlike many other gyms where people leave a mess behind them. The other people training were friendly and I didn’t see anyone sitting on equipment texting. Thanks for running a real gym, Matt. I know where I’m coming to get a good pump next time I’m in Nashville.

Poe's Gym is a must visit gym; it mixes the old school gym feel with a surplus of lifting equipment and friendly staff. I was visiting Nashville and needed a gym to workout in (6 wks from a USAPL competition) and Poe's Gym was more than accommodating. Matt is an amazing owner; he has done it all, from competing at the highest levels, to coaching and running training programs for the Army. He met me at the gym and we talked about fitness goals and life. This is a must for anyone wanting to find a great gym with great people.

Matt has an awesome gym in the Nashville area. I was looking for powerlifting equipment (specifically deadlift bars and heavy dumbbells) and if you’re looking for such equipment, this is the perfect place. If you’re just looking for a place to have a good workout, this is it.

Matt is a great guy. He contacted me multiple times to make sure I had everything I needed and that I was making myself at home. He’ll walk you through all the equipment, give you a spot and help any way he can. You can tell he cares about his members and guests.

Go to this gym if you’re in or around Nashville.

I’m from out of town and was visiting a friend who lives here in Nashville. Poe’s gym was more than welcoming when I first entered. Matt talked to me asking me where I was from, what I do, and what I was working on. Based off what I told him, he suggested the best equipment for what I was wanting to work on for that day and was an amazing experience. I’m wanting to own a gym in the future and this is how I would imagine it at the peak. Thank you so much Matt, made me feel like family walking through that gym.

I cannot recommend this place enough. Matt Poe (owner) and Josh Scott (manager) are truly the highest caliber people this country has to offer. I am a powerlifter from Ohio and was looking for a place to train while on vacation. I am so glad I reached out to Matt Poe at Poes Gym! Matt clearly explained the ins and outs of the gym and made me feel right at home and welcomed. Matt and Josh were there both days I trained making sure I had everything I needed. The gym is clean, organized, structured and most of all filled with equipment to keep your training in check. Communication, cleanliness and passion are just a few qualities this gym excels in. Don’t be afraid to reach out to Matt you won’t be disappointed.

Matt is a stand-up guy and this is a great gym for powerlifting. He has every piece of equipment you could need and his energy is infectious as well as motivating. He has worked hard to build a culture that is friendly, supportive and serious about working out. I highly recommend this Poes Gym!

I’m in Nashville for a week, and needed to find a place to lift and stumbled across Poes. Called the number online and Matt called me right back. He met me up there and showed me around the gym and helped me get set up for the next morning so I could lift early. Best gym I have ever been to!!! Has everything you need, a classic black iron gym. Matt is an awesome guy as well. Super helpful and responsive. Id recommend this gym to anyone, and hope I can come back again someday

Was visiting from out of town and was searching for a place to lift, this place was the top hit for "powerlifting gyms in Nashville". Definitely see why this gym is so highly rated. The owner Matt was extremely helpful and personable. The gym itself had everything you could need and had the best atmosphere. Highly recommend and will definitely return whenever I'm in Nashville!

I cannot believe it's taken me over a year to write this place a review. This gym has a been a home away from home for me for about a year and a half now and I cannot say enough good things about it.

Unlike many of the other reviewers, I am not a power lifter. I do mostly circuit style training. I love to use weights and machines and Poes has everything I need and more. If you are a power lifter, they have EVERYTHING.

The best part about this place is the community. This community welcomed me with open arms and never judged me once. They continuously push me to do better. If you want a gym with good, genuine people and all the equipment you need... Poe's is it.

During a trip to Nashville I had the luck of coming across Poe’s Gym. Matt and Josh were extremely hospitable. The place was clean, had all the equipment one could ask for, and a great atmosphere to lift. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and appreciate them welcoming me into their facility. I hope to come back again on my next trip to the area. Highly recommended.

These guys were so kind, helpful, and had all the real strength training equipment you could ask for. Place was meticulously set up and had a no-frills attitude which I loved.

Only thing I didn’t like was the NRA sticker on the entryway door. I support personal beliefs, and the second amendment shouldn’t necessarily be abolished. But the idea of indirectly funding that particular organization through supporting a local business bothers me.

I was in town for the weekend and just came across this spot, couldn’t have hit the jackpot any harder if my life depended on it! I pretty much had the place to myself while I was there and treated to an array of awesome strength training equipment and atmosphere so needless to say training went great but the owner is where it all comes to an even better experience. He’s one of the most hospitable and friendliest people I’ve came across in this industry and his energy and positivity is awesome!!
If you live here or you’re just visiting Nashville and want a great spot for serious training this is the spot no question!

I was in town for the 4th of July, needed a gym to get a good workout in. After contacting the owner, he was happy to have me come in, and for a reasonable drop-in fee I was working out with the other guys. Gym's got great equipment and plenty of it, everyone was kind and welcoming. Thanks for a great lifting experience down in Nashville!

I was at Poe's earlier in the year. Never been at a friendlier gym. Everyone was very welcoming and Poe went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable and got a good workout in. The gym itself has everything you could possibly need, including a great atmosphere.
A big thank you to Poe and the gang for a wonderful experience and for cheering me on when I was squatting with jet lag.

Poe’s gym!
Poe’s has always been on my bucket list to train at. I could not have been more impressed by Matt Poes gym. Poe’s gym is gives you an old school feel with graffiti brick walls, pictures of legends who have trained there on the walls, it is clean, organized, full of character, and the people are very supportive and friendly. I had the opportunity to talk with Matt for quite awhile. It says a lot about a person who takes their time to hold a meaningful conversation with someone. Matt and the other athletes at his gym welcomed me with open arms and made me feel right at home. If you are someone with a good attitude, hard work ethic, respect, and a good sense of humor, Poe’s gym is the right place. I cannot thank Matt Poe and the rest of the athletes enough for their hospitality.

I was looking for a place to continue my powerlifting while away on a business trip. I stopped in at Poe’s Gym Today and was pleasantly surprised. Matt Poe was very welcoming gave me a tour of the facility and then let me get to lifting. They had everything you could hope for in a gym away from home. When I am back in Nashville I will definitely be stopping by to continue with my programming while away at work. If you need a no nonsense gym to deadlift, squat and bench looking no further.

My wife and I were traveling across the country and stuck to our regular 4x/wk training schedule while doing so. Finding quality gyms for powerlifters like us is tough when traveling and we were incredibly fortunate to find Poe’s Gym and dropped in for a visit. When we arrived, the door was locked but Matt picked up the phone and cautiously asked us “what type of lifting are you looking to do?” and as I replied “we’re powerlifters just passing through looking for a place to train” he was quick to open the facility up to us! Matt and his GM were incredibly hospitable and so were all the members we met. My wife and I spent a few hours here lifting (it was a long one!) and had plenty of good conversation with Matt along the way. If you’re in the area or simply traveling through Nashville looking for a facility for serous strength training then look no further. This gym has the perfect old school vibe with it’s “no frills” selection of equipment. If you’re looking for lavender scented towels and Smith machines, then politely, this is not the place for you. If you like lifting weights in a serious and, most importantly, supportive environment then Poe’s Gym has what you’re looking for. Don’t forget to pick up one of their great looking T-Shirts too!

WOW!! What an amazing experience! This is probably one of the very few authentic real hardcore gyms left in the US!! The atmosphere was amazing, everyone was super friendly and supportive. But most of all, Matt Poe, the gym owner could not have been more helpful, friendly and welcoming. If you are serious about powerlifting, olympic lifting, and overall strength and conditioning, this is the place to go. And, if you have been around for a while and know the iron game well, you will appreciate the awesome, old school & heavy duty equipment! They have tons of the original York Barbell weights, every kind of bar, and the great Uddeholm Sweden bumper plates. If you are in the Nashville TN area don't miss the opportunity to check out Poe's Gym.

Old School iron meets Southern hospitality. Poe's gym is a welcoming environment for anyone interested in getting stronger and meeting knowledgeable lifters, a truly inspirational gym. For Powerlifters and Strongman competitors a visit to Poe's Gym is an absolute must when you are anywhere near Nashville TN. Be sure to talk to founder Matt Poe and learn from the man himself. I came from California and I'm so glad I found Poe's Gym while visiting Nashville on business because commercial gyms do not have what serious lifters need, but Poe's does!!! Drop-ins are welcomed, egos are checked at the door, chalk is available but AC is not so come prepared for an awesome workout. 5 stars.
