Scott is hands down the best strength trainer I've ever worked with—transforming my fitness journey in ways I never thought possible. After more than three years with other personal trainers, I achieved real results in just eight weeks under Scott's guidance. It all began in our first session when he diagnosed and fixed a chronic knee issue in about 30 seconds—a painful inverted knee that prevented me from straightening it without pain, something even a trained orthopedic surgeon couldn't resolve. Fast forward eight weeks, and I've skyrocketed from struggling to bench press 20 lbs to confidently pressing 30 lbs per arm, mastered chin-ups for the first time, unveiled abs that were nowhere to be seen before, and even deadlifted 95 lbs—a feat I didn't know I had in me! Remarkably, all this progress came from just one hour per week with Scott. I came to Roots fitness with fairly severe back issues, very painful plantar fasciitis, and a body recovering from three back to back C-sections and pregnancies. Within three months, I was pain-free on all fronts and am lifting more than I thought my old body could handle. I would recommend this practice too anyone including people who thought their very athletic days were behind them.

When I started in January, I was a true beginner grappling with a tough period in my life. Hamza and Scott have been great to work with. They’re really helping stay motivated on this first stage of getting my life in order. First off, I’ve suffered from chronic lower back pain for about seven years. Physical therapy barely touched it. In three months of working with these guys, I’ve made real improvements. We’re still working on it, but I have whole days of full mobility and no pain. It’s incredible because I had given up hope of it getting better.
Second, my physique is really making noticeable gains. I’m more confident going into a gym, knowing what exercises to focus on, what my form should look like, etc. Hamza has recommended some apps to help with nutrition and maintaining a caloric deficit. Overall, I look and feel great.
I owe them a debt of gratitude. I’m putting in the work and hours in the gym, but I’m so grateful for their attention to detail, advice, and encouragement. Every time I meet with them, I’m ready to take it to the next level. They really are helping me to stay motivated to build a better future me. Much appreciation from this client.

I’ve been a client of Hamzah’s for a short few months now. I’m 75 years old, and even though after retirement I continued hiking many miles most days of the week, I felt my flexibility and strength were waning. I knew I needed help if I were to enjoy being active and healthy. I’m so glad that I was referred to Roots Fitness and Hamzah. Five years ago, at the age of 49, I was likely in the process of developing heart disease, or, at least my blood bio markers were indicating that trend. My introduction to Scott changed the course of my life. He began to develop my functional strength and we slowly began to see progress. The pace of that progress has increased over the past two years, and it shows in the results. After finally agreeing to his cardio requests, partnered with his strength-training regimen, I got a DEXA scan and VO2 Max test in Dec 2023. My body fat was 25.6%, and to my surprise, my VO2 Max was 44.7%, top 15% for my age. Flash forward six months, my body fat is down to 22.7%, a reduction of 11%. My VO2 Max increased to 48, putting me in the top 8% for my age. And, my visceral body fat decreased 15%. All of this while now having arguably the strength of a 30-yr old. Working with Scott is improving my longevity, at least as much as what I can control. The rest is up to God.

Having worked with various trainers over the past 10 years, Scott McCaa is by far the best trainor I’ve had the pleasure of working with. I have been training with Will for the past ~5 months and I can say that he is by far the best trainer I have worked with to date. As a long distance runner I always opt for skipping cross training. Will has focused my training goals and as a result I shaved 40 min(!) off my last marathon finish time! I feel stronger and more motivated! This place is very good if you're a workout person. It's small, but there's not many people so you're usually by yourself. The 2 fitness instructors are amazing and very technical. Will Simpson helped me a lot with my athleticism, strength, and conditioning. Before I came here, I was not very coordinated, and wasn't very strong, but I've been training with Will for 3 years and I'm a completely different person. I play tennis and Will has improved my game big time! He focuses on small little details to make sure you're doing everything right, and you don't get hurt! Definitely recommend coming here!

As a former college basketball player, I remained very active into my adulthood until a severe back injury at age 39 which required me to undergo surgery (discectomy). I continued to have symptoms and was told my only option was to have a spinal fusion. I never thought I would be active again. I decided to reach out to Scott at Roots Fitness as my last hope. After 8 months of training, I am nearly pain free and stronger than I was before my injury. I am now jumping rope, squatting, doing chin ups, push-ups, and even playing basketball with my daughter again. My confidence and strength improve with each session. Scott's knowledge and attention to detail is second to none. He trains with purpose, but also demonstrates patience. He is passionate about what he does which is motivating in itself. I am 82 years of age and discovered that I had Cancer in July of last year.
I decided to follow my Medical Team’s suggestions in an attempt to stop the spread of the Cancer. I also took on additional number of protocols which after research convinced me they may help with my cure.
One of those led me to working with Scott at Roots Fitness. I can tell you that I have benefited from his training in a number of ways. After my first session I was exhausted because I was very much out of shape. Since beginning my weekly visits in 2023 I find that my recovery time at the end of my work session is no more than ten (10) minutes. I walk more erect and have a greater balance when on my feet. This
helps people my age from falling. I can lift items now with ease where in the past it was a difficult task. The simple task of getting up out of a chair is truly simple now. Over all my core is much stronger. I do not get tired and nap during the day the way I did in the past.

Scott has made more progress with me in a few months than others had in over a year. He came highly recommended as someone who thinks differently about posture and mobility in a way that might help some of the problems I was having, and I could tell a change after even the first session. He has worked closely with my physical therapist on an individualized plan which he adapts throughout each session. I have been working with Scott For just over a year now. I come one or two times a week. My goals were to increase my arm strength, get rid of these flabby aunt Julia arms, and get rid of the constant pain in my lower back. Scott has help me to increase my leg strength and not use my lower back for every move I make. I was a gymnast in high school and college and I really wrecked my back. Scott has helped me and my body understand that the muscles in my legs need to take the effort out of my back. I can’t say enough positive things about the training I have received at Roots Fitness. The sessions are full of explanations for how our bodies work and are not killer group training but hard thoughtful personal training. I live in a very hilly neighborhood and have hesitated to walk the hills as I have gotten out of practice. I was amazed to find last week that I could walk up the highest hills with minimal effort because my legs are now so much stronger. I cannot recommend Scott and Roots Fitness highly enough! Scott is hands down the best, most knowledgeable trainer I have ever worked with. I believe he saved me from knee replacement. I went to him after two knee surgeries...the first one was botched, the second to repair the first. When I walked into my first training my right leg was half the size of my left and super weak. I couldn't step up on a box with my right leg. I had been "successfully" discharged from PT.
Scott was exacting with my training. It took almost two years to retrain the muscles in my leg but he was patient, encouraging and I could visibly see progress. Now, he can't get rid of me. He has taught me about the importance of getting enough protein in my diet and we have advanced to really building strength and muscle. We work on strength training, balance, agility and soon....speed training. I am now 64 years old and have been working with Scott for 2 plus years. I can once again easily hike all the trails in Percy Warner, play golf and practice yoga. Thank you Scott.

I have neck and back issues, and Jonathan takes the time to ask how I’m feeling. He asks follow up questions and monitors my every move so I do not strain or further injure myself. The best part is, Jonathan LISTENS when I tell him I don’t feel well or if a workout was painful. He will change the workout to suit my health needs.
My work schedule can be hectic at times, and Jonathan is so patient and understanding. He never gets upset or angry when I am late. After 45 years working full time as a nurse, I consistently deal with hip and knee pain. The pain prevented me from standing up from a chair without using both hands to lift my weight. I had reached the point of consulting with several orthopedic surgeons and had multiple physical therapy sessions which were not providing long term relief. Because I am 70 years old, I was concerned that a personal trainer would push me too hard, too fast. Instead I found Scott to be patient and extremely knowledgeable regarding the muscular and joint structures. He was able to quickly pinpoint the cause of my issues and instruct me through movements which provided short and long term relief. After 8 visits, my strength has improved to the point that I can stand from a seated position without using my hands. I can also walk without “wobbling” from side to side with equal distribution of my weight and no pain.
