Awesome spot for people interested in (or continuing) learning muay thai! The entire team at Ambush are super friendly and welcoming. As someone that never did martial arts I was a bit intimidated starting out, but they've got great Essentials classes several times a week specifically to go over the basics. Would highly recommend this spot for anyone wanting to get into muay thai or get better at it!

Started off attending the gym knowing nothing about Muay Thai besides it looks cool to learning a lot of the basics of striking and footwork. Very nice people and very welcoming environment for beginners.

I mostly attended the women's classes, which I strongly recommend. Unlike other gyms I've trained with, the women's class here is just as focused on technique as the general class, but with a smaller class size. The teachers are great and everyone is chill and accepting.

This gym is amazing. I’ve been coming here three times a week for about three months, and I can’t say enough good things about Ambush Muay Thai. The coaches are great — very knowledgeable and encouraging — and they help everyone improve at their own pace. I wish I had a gym like this to go to when I was a teenager, but now, in my forties, I enjoy coming here just as much. This gym is for everyone, from beginners to advanced. Everyone is welcomed into the open and supportive community.

Overall an amazing gym, each coach was very helpful and friendly. Tons of class options for different skills level and the gym is maintained nicely and equipment is cleaned after each session. If you are new and nervous, I would definitely recommend reaching out to them for a trial class and you'll meet with one of staff or coaches to help you get comfortable. If you are experienced, you'll also benefit as the coaches are very knowledgeable and you'll continue to grow here!

Highly recommend. Along with the fairly priced membership options you get a deal on gear if you sign up the day of your trial, creating a lower barrier for entry for starters. Great coaches, good vibes, low ego environment, well structured classes.

Was traveling for work a couple weeks before an upcoming tournament and looking for a place to train. Came across Ambush and decided to pop in. This gym is phenomenal. I’ve trained around the world and this place is top notch. From the facility, to the training, to the students and the coaches. Sean and Jackson are masters of the craft while being some of the most down to earth trainers I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Ended up spending 3 hours there and coming back each day before work. No doubt in my mind, if you’re in Austin, this is the place to be.

I came to Austin for work and stopped by the gym for some training in my spare time. They are a great academy! I had a blast at their community sparring. Their students are so nice and welcoming. They really made me feel like part of their community, even though I was just a visitor. It’s not just coaches that make a gym awesome, but it’s the students as well. The students at that gym were amazing!! They have a lot of very talented and knowledgeable coaches, so I can understand where the students get it from. Even if you are just in the area for a short period of time, 10/10 would recommend dropping in for a class or community sparring. 🙏

Nicest Gym Ever! I first joined back in 2020(or 2021), at the time I worked from home and desperately needed a physical activity that was fun and made me feel cool. Muay Thai is very cool and you feel like a bad ass the whole time you are learning there. All the coaches are really nice and patient, I don't have the best coordination in the world so it really takes a lot of effort to understand how to move my body. They never got frustrated and they always made me feel a part of the team. They are a true community with amazing teammates who are all there to have a good time.
Often times(because work sucks lol) I would have to take long breaks from Ambush, but every time I come back its easy to jump right back in. Every time I comeback they grew their operations, provided more classes and found new ways to learn cool moves. Thanks for being here with me and helping me learn to be a badass 8). Also thanks for the cool merch x3

Hands down the best Muay Thai gym in the area. I did have some striking experience before joining Ambush, and the moment I walked in, I felt like I had so much to learn. Beginner classes are great, drills are fantastic, and sparring sessions are always kick (my) ass. Every one respects everyone else, and the environment is the best. All the coaches, especially Coach Elton and Jackson are great and always ready to help you and critique your technique.

I’ve been training at Ambush for a month now, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best martial arts gyms I’ve ever come across. The standout feature here is definitely the coaching staff. Each coach brings a wealth of experience, not just in technique, but also in the art of teaching. They’re patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in your progress.
Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced fighter, the coaches take the time to ensure you understand the fundamentals. They break down complex movements into manageable steps, making it easier to pick up and execute. I appreciate how they tailor their feedback to each individual’s needs, ensuring that every session feels personalized.
The atmosphere is incredibly supportive there’s a strong sense of camaraderie among the fighters, and the coaches foster that by being approachable and encouraging, no matter your skill level. They’re also excellent at balancing discipline with fun, so every session is challenging yet enjoyable.
If you're looking to train in Muay Thai, you couldn’t ask for a better group of coaches to guide you on your journey. I highly recommend Ambush to anyone who is looking to learn the art of Muay Thai and get fit while doing.

Solid gym for Muay Thai training. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable on techniques and the class format gives a good balance on being able to take in the information given and being able to put it to use in drills/sparring. My friend and I spent two months in Austin this summer and decided to try Muay Thai at Ambush. As complete beginners, we didn’t know what to expect , but we immediately felt welcomed into their family-like atmosphere from the first class. If you're reading reviews of nearby gyms and have stumbled across Ambush, you don't need to look any further. Ambush has a friendly and collaborative culture with smart attentive coaches that are passionate about Muay Thai. In the beginners class, the coaches demonstrate in a easy to understand way and will often explain how what we're learning applies to sparring. Because of this, you will often find more advanced students in the beginners class working on their fundamentals. I'm moving out of Austin soon and consider not being able to attend Ambush the saddest part of the move. Take advantage of being so close to this gem.

I have been training striking probably my whole life and just recently moved to Austin from Houston and instantly found a real sense of community at this gym since week 1. Everyone knows everyone on first name basis and Elton, Sean and all the other coaches there are amazing down to earth human beings that know how teach and instruct without being demeaning or shaking your confidence. I learn something new everyday and the coaches/instructors are very involved in your development, I’ve been training for 10 plus years and never felt this type of recognition and involvement in my striking development and I’ve never seen improvements so quickly. 10/10 can’t recommend this gym enough my only complaint is that I didn’t join sooner.

I moved to north Austin to be closer to Ambush and will be staying here for the same reason. There is no higher quality training around. From complete beginners to literal pros you see on the big screen, they train here because the coaches meet you where you are in your journey and show you the tools you need to grow. Technique, friends, fighting aspirations, safe sparring, cardio increase, strength & power, accountability, or just hitting pads hard… it’s all at Ambush.
Also, the Kids program is out of this world. They are the most respectful group I’ve ever seen. And they’re wayyyyy better than me at Muay Thai. The curriculum Dr. Coach Jenna has created is bar none.
Shout out to coaches Elton, Jenna, Trinity, Shawn, Jackson, AJ, Jesse, and Andrew. I’ve taken privates with a few of these coaches and will keep going back. The 1x1 time will speed up your progress exponentially if that’s what you’re looking for.

Ambush Muay Thai became my home away from home, where Jenna, Elton, and Sean crafted an atmosphere of genuine warmth. Traveling from Montreal to train with Jason in Krabi-Krabong, I heeded his recommendation to join Elton's Muay Thai classes—loved every moment. Elton Wells, the head coach at Ambush has developed an extremely effective and practical system of fighting that is creating world-class champions like you’ve never seen before. This place is amazing seriously. I’ve been to decent amount off martial art gyms and ambush is top tier. Super clean first of all, second the most welcoming crew I’ve met. Made me feel extremely welcomed. The class was amazing. I’ve trained for 10 plus years and I still got to learn something new from the team over there. I will absolutely be back

WE did 2 pretrial class at Ambush. We are all impressed by the class technique of demoing and then testing the demo through contact partner sparing. It was not air dancing like other martial art classes. It is more combat with punch and kicking the partner.
Thanks for the patiences with dealing with us newbies.
My greatest enjoyment was watching one of the adult coach training with the youngest athlete there.
My second was listening to my son afterward, amazed at his partner defending himself at such ease.
After hopscotching other martial art classes for determining which one she prefers, My daughter wants to join Ambush because of the actual application of demo.
I would like to sign up both kids for Ambush Muay Thai classes.

The community and culture that has been built at Ambush is second to none. You will feel welcome and accepted in a way that is not often experienced, and you will be held accountable on your journey to improve yourself. No better Muay Thai or strength program exists in Texas, and I have yet to see anyone anywhere doing things like they do here. If you aren’t at Ambush, you’re truly missing out.

If I could give a 1,000 stars I would. If you are looking to fight or simply learn Muay Thai, this is the gym for you. Not only were they able to correct my teeps in one go (I’ve been doing Muay Thai for a long time), but also teach me foundational footwork that I’ve been missing. Not to mention the coach is super passionate about Muay Thai. Coach Elton literally is the most caring and knowledgeable coach that I’ve met. I never knew that a coach could care about their student’s background and their growth in the sport so much before him! To be honest, to grow your Muay Thai skills exponentially .. it doesn’t take a huge gym that is franchised to the max. It takes a tight knit supportive Muay Thai community and a caring, knowledgeable coach who is there for your progress no matter the circumstances and that is the definition what I saw at Ambush. I highly recommend this place!

I've been training for 20+ years, and trained in some great gyms around the globe.
Ambush is great gym for everyone who wants to learn Muay Thai in a safe-fun environment.
The curriculum is a lot more structured than in any other gym that I've seen. People who train here for 2-3 years are able to fight, which is pretty amazing.
There is a good balance of western/thai way of teaching:
they throughly explain the correct technique and want you to understand why it's important to do it like that, but they will also make sure that you kick a lot.

One of the best Muay Thai gyms in Austin, maybe in all of Texas. Every coach in the gym only wants to see you do your best. The hands on training makes it feel like you're learning from a grand master *cough* Coach Elton. Great vibes, people, and teachings. Also one of the most clean facilities I have been in. One of the best and most memorable parts about Austin was definitely the community this gym provided for me.

Ambush is awesome! It was my first time doing any martial art and everyone was extremely supportive and welcoming. The atmosphere is very much like a family and everyone is stoked to be helping each other. Coach Elton and the rest of the staff are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and positive. I would still be taking classes with them but my new work schedule won't allow it. I will be back though, I know that.
I would highly recommend them if you are looking for a dedicated Muay Thai gym. It is not a generic kickboxing workout class. They take the martial art very seriously yet still joke around and keep it light. 10/10 would recommend

Let me start by saying I never leave reviews for anything but this place is definitely deserving of rave reviews and forgive me if this is long winded.
I was an athlete up until about age 35 playing multiple sports but mostly Ice Hockey. At 35 had a knee injury, had some kids and before I knew it I was 45 years old and gained about 40 lbs. The only fight combat experience I had was on ice so came in here knowing nothing.
The trial class was me and 2 other newbies and they give a great intro to the basics that first class. After a few minutes I realized how out of shape I was but they never pressured me to do too much or go to hard. Just kept drilling the proper fundamentals of the stance, kicks and punches. After the class no pressure to buy into any contract and they explained the options they give.
After the first week of group classes I was hooked. Not only are the instructors top class but so are the students. Everyone went out of their way to make you feel welcomed and help with anything you were having problems with.
I just finished 6 months and Im not back to my Hockey weight I did lose a few Lbs but more important I feel so much better and enjoy playing with my kids so much more because of how much more energy I have now. I just put a pause on my membership because I want to try out Jiu Jitsu but I have a feeling I'll be back at Ambush. If still you're still reading this just go for yourself and you wont be disappointed!

I have nothing but kind words for the entire staff at ambush. whether you’re an experienced Vet in Muay Thai, or just getting started, they’ve got something to scratch the itch. Most importantly, the environment offered is conducive to growth at all levels. The community is inclusive, and no one is going to make you feel like you don’t belong there, no matter your personal skill level. This is an underrated component of most gyms. To say you start to feel like a family would be accurate. Unfortunately, professional obligation has caused me to stop, however, were that not the case, if this post convinced you to give it a shot, there’s a good chance I’d be holding your pads. Wishing the entire Ambush crew a happy holidays.

Beginning a martial art in my late 30s and being fairly out of shape, would have typically come with a bit of insecurity for me. I decided to not be concerned with that and embrace the new discipline in my life, but starting at Ambush Muay Thai (Austin) this summer proved I didn't even need to give that a single thought. The support and encouragement was felt from the top down.
The coaches at Ambush juggle training of all levels with focus, patience, and enthusiasm and keep that energy moving through all of us daily. This positive environment has attracted practitioners of the same mindset. Students of varying experience levels have all been encouraging towards me, empathetic (if they detected that I was displeased with my performance on a particular move, for example), and helpful by way of offering pointers (NOT in a condescending or overstepping the instructors, kind of way).
I can't recommend Ambush Muay Thai (Austin) enough, if you are embarking on a new Muay Thai journey or if you are already a practitioner looking for somewhere in the area to workout.

My family and I are so happy to have found Ambush Muay Thai! I have a 16-year-old son in the adults’ class and an 11-year-old daughter in the kids’ program. My son is effusive about this place and that is why am more than willing to make the 30-45 min commute 3-4 times per week. I don’t sit in on his classes, but I do observe my daughter in the kids’ program.
I cannot take my eyes off these kids! The kids are so engaged, dedicated, and so good to one another. Their class has all the rigors of a real adult training program – drills, pad work, and sparring. The kids do this from day one. This environment is possible because they have the best coaches who have carefully crafted this program. Coaches Elton, Jenna, and Jackson are the absolute best and I think it’s because first, they are great technically (correcting form and honing instinct), second, they are great with kids and provide a safe environment for them, and lastly they never make Ambush feel like it’s about them. It’s about the kids – knowing that they are very capable and teaching them to persevere! Even though there are some very talented kids, the coaches don’t give anyone the star treatment. Every student is treated equally and given attention. My daughter spars with some tough opponents (boys and girls) who are dominant the whole time, but she loves the challenge and has so much fun! We feel very fortunate that our kids can train here!!!

An awesome gym with quality instruction and great people. I only recently started going, but Ambush has completely sucked me in to Muay Thai. I always loved martial arts, but I didn’t think I’d enjoy Muay Thai as much as I do. Everyday I go I feel like I improve with the help of my instructors and fellow classmates who push me to my limits. I get to learn new techniques and perfect the ones I’ve been taught every week. My sister also joined not long after me and she loves it too when she trains in the kids class. I really hope I will be able to keep going despite the upcoming school year and the long commute. To anyone who is even slightly interested, I implore you to try it.

I had been training in boxing 5 year until I found Ambush. Once Elton, Dave, and the rest of the coaches got my legs moving, I knew there was no going back. Elton's systematic and passionate approach to breaking down all fundamentals needed create a great core foundation to turn yourself into a resilient and dynamic Martial Artist.
Since expanding to their new Austin location, Ambush has also been able to expand it's curriculum to include beginner technique and conditioning classes. This is further helped by having at least 2-3 instructors in every class for maximum guidance.
I have also done personal training with Dave Moore. While all the instructors are excellent, Dave has a particular zen calmness and geniality that improved my power and technique with more advanced skills very quickly. I can't speak highly enough of Dave and all the trainers at Ambush, they are the real deal!
Finally, while Ambush Muay Thai puts out serious competition where ever they fight, every instructor, trainer, fighter, or student operates without ego. This makes a very welcoming, fun, and social environment for all skill levels walking in the door.

Can't say enough postive things about this place. It's quickly become like a second home, which is so difficult to find especially in such isolating times. Coach Elton and the team work very hard to make everyone feel welcome and included, with fighters of a skill levels able to find a place here. There are always older experienced fighters who come to the begginer classes to help guide us newcomers, but also to reinforce their own fundamentals, which goes to show the humility and spiritual grace you don't find in dog-eat-dog fighting gyms. You walk in to Ambush and discover a group of determined and dedicated fighters who only make you want to push yourself harder--but it is not demanded, only encouraged, which makes the resulting growth more personal and lasting. You can't buy inspiration, so you're getting far more than your money's worth in each class. I started out just wanting to learn some basics for fitness and self defense, but I have been won over by the atmosphere of betterment and fortitude, and now try to go as often as possible. 5/5 gloves.

Hands down the best gym in the Austin area!! Each coach is more than willing to work with you at any level, and whether your goals are getting into shape (the workouts WILL get you into shape), or if you’re looking to seriously compete the Ambush team will get you there. The coaches as well as the teammates are incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the entire gym functions as one family. If you’re looking for a gym that will take your goals seriously and work with you even in crazy times like this pandemic, then join Ambush. Not only will your technique and conditioning improve, you also will never ever worry about getting hurt during sparring, as sparring is a tool to make you better, not test how hard you can get hit. Join Ambush if you want a no gimmicks type of gym that will introduce you to some of the best people, friends, and athletes you can find.

I would of given 10 stars if I could. Highly skilled, authentic, family oriented gym. I've only been in Austin for 3 months and have been training at Ambush for less than 2 months. When I started, I knew no one in town, was in the worst shape of my life, and had never even thrown a punch before. Thanks to Ambush, the coaches, and the members, I'm already in the best shape I've ever been in, have established the groundwork for a new art, and layed out the foundation for my life and it's new start. Furthermore, I now feel I have a gym full of new close friends who would help me out with anything I ever needed if they could, and likewise who I would help in a heartbeat if asked. I couldn't of imagined a better gym to stumble into.

Great place for Muay Thai! Elton Wells and the team were very generous and kind to let me train for free seeing that I was from out of town/country. Love seeing people passionate about this sport and the friendly welcoming atmosphere is attractive. I would definitely return to this place when I’m back in Austin next.

I was unable to participate due to an injury but was able to observe the class. Both coach Jenna and Elton did a great job explaining and breaking down the movements. They also made sure to keep an eye on everyone as they practiced and gave appropriate queues as needed. The gym is very clean and everyone is very welcoming and friendly!
