Unprofessional and Harassing Behavior

I had a disappointing and troubling experience with the owner/manager, Ilon, of this Anytime Fitness in Sugar Land.

After purchasing a scale from me as-is via Facebook Marketplace—which he personally tested and I delivered to him—he later became hostile and bombarded me with messages about the scale not working. Despite confirming the scale worked at the time of sale, I tried to help and sent him instructions on how to recalibrate it, he continued to message me aggressively.

What’s more concerning is that he retaliated by leaving a false 1-star review on my business page, despite having no connection to or experience with my services. He also had his friend leave a 1-star review. This kind of behavior is not only unprofessional but raises serious concerns about his character and ethics—especially from someone representing a community-based business. I would strongly urge others to consider this experience when choosing who to support locally.

During my FitQuestt70 journey from Sacramento to Texas, I stopped at gym #83 in Sugarland, Texas. It was a travel day, so time was tight, I used the shower, which was very clean and comfortable. The gym is mid-sized and seems high-quality, with a thoughtful design, especially the unique drain plate that solves the drainage issues I’ve seen at other gyms. From what I could tell in my short visit, it’s a five-star facility.

They replied to my review and asked for a second go. They have made some substantial improvements to the facility. They now have cables! They rearranged a lot of the equipment to make it flow better and it's now a great gym to workout at. They're missing a few things that I would love to have but it's not a deal breaker. But it was a 2⭐ and now a 4⭐

Was in sugar land for work and most anytime have a basic layout and pretty consistent equipment. I've been to a lot of them across the US and this is the general experience.

This gym... Is weird. It's a huge space. So when I walked in I was taken back by just how vast it was. Went and changed and walked out and was instantly disappointed.

One squat rack.
One smith machine.
One small cable setup.

But a huge "CrossFit" area. Why?

The lack of a even basic cable set was the most disappointing. No where to to seated cable rows. Lat pull down cables. But for the two cables they have, there's a nice "20 minute limit" sign on there.

Now machines? They have a lat pulldown, a seated row, tricep extension, bicep, leg machines. Etc. so if you're into machines then I guess it's fine. I can work my way around and get my back exercises in without a ton of things, I'm just disappointed.

So, newer gym mean newer machines that should be pretty much not in need of maintence. Wrong. I got on the bike and there is a huge catch which makes it uncomfortable to use. The recumbent bike was fine but come on.

This gym has huge potential to be the spot to go to. They have the space, fill it up!

So if you couldn't tell, I'm not a huge fan of this anytime. I have photos for you to check out and you can make your own opinion but for me? I'll go to crunch when I'm down in SL again.

Visited this location for the first time and it was great. The gym wasn’t crowded, equipment was clean, and clean restrooms. It was easy to get a membership, Ilon was a helpful guy. I downloaded the app and he went through a few rules such as using the scanner to gain entry. I highly recommend this gym especially during rush hour, also nothing beats cleanliness.

I cannot recommend Esther at Anytime Fitness highly enough! From January to June 2024, she completely transformed my fitness journey. Her dedication, deep understanding of my body’s strengths and limitations, and ability to tailor workouts that were both effective and fun made every session something I looked forward to—so much so that I willingly woke up at 5 AM just to make it to her 5:30 AM sessions!

Beyond just being an incredible trainer, she was a true motivator and friend. She made me feel strong, confident, and capable, pushing me while always keeping our workouts engaging. Her personable and amiable nature made the gym feel like a second home, and I genuinely miss training with her now that I’ve moved to the West Coast.

Twice, I made an appointment to visit, but was stood up both times. There was never any staff present to meet me and grant me entry. The gym looks small, with more space than equipment even at that.

I’ve been with this gym about two years now and have loved every aspect of it! I have lost over 100+ lbs with the help of Esther, she has been the best personal trainer so far. When I first joined the gym Esther was the manager and helped me with my enrollment and fitness. At the beginning the gym was lacking a few machines but now they have added quite a few machines and you have everything needed. The only thing that would make this gym even better would be a steam or sauna room. Good job guys!

I travel a lot so I've visited many Anytime Fitnesses. I've brought guests and never had a problem. Today I get a call saying the cameras flagged me for letting someone in. Mind you the guest had a day pass and checked in with the trainer working the day of and yet the manager jumped to conclusions instead of asking his staff and/or watched the cameras further. Never have I felt so watched in a gym. Fair to say I'll never be back to this location.

It always amazes me how little people understand what makes a businesses successful and what makes them fail. If I were the owner here, I’d fire the manager!

We’re new to the neighborhood, so we called to schedule an appointment for new membership.
I have a full family that uses the gym regularly, 7 total people, my wife, one daughter and I even all do full personal training, so we spend some good money as a group. You’d think they would have been excited to gain the new business.
The manager told me to come in Saturday at 10am for a tour and to sign up. We show up at 9:50, have to be let in by a member, and see there’s not a single employee in the building. Waited 20 minutes, called the number provided and no answer. Waited another 20 minutes and still nobody showed. Pathetic excuse for a neighborhood gym. I’d bet money they’ll be closed in 6 months due to their lack of service.

When are the scheduled consultation hours?
I've rung the doorbell at least 10 times and called both phone numbers. One on the door and the other on the website, both went to voicemail. I work long hours so this was the one free gap I had to come in and see if I wanted to start a membership. This left the impression that I was not welcome to work out here.

Read the fine print of the contract you are required to sign and understand it. I recently inquired about a membership and how it works. It took me three times to get the fact that, yes the yearly contract automatically expires at the end of the year. BUT that doesn't get you out! You are automatically billed (at the higher monthly membership rate) until you make a written request to cancel and then they take a couple more payments after that.

This is a great short term business model!

Their practices are highly unethical and unprofessional, and they prioritize profit over providing adequate exercise equipment. Despite having serious medical issues and undergoing spinal surgery, I cannot utilize the gym because of the limited machines As I am retired individual, I cannot afford the membership, I requested to cancel my membership over a year ago, but they claim that the agreement is irrevocable, which is contrary to their policy. Although they allow cancellation with one month's notice, they refuse to cancel mine and continue to bill me even after the agreement is supposed to be over. This has been going on for more than a year, and it is immoral, unethical, and potentially illegal. Despite contacting their corporate and billing department, they refuse to intervene, and the local club is greedy and unresponsive.

My experience at Anything Fitness has been wonderful. Right away I felt welcomed by the trainers (Ray and Josh) and the lovely manager Esther. They all made me feel comfortable when coming to workout at the gym. Everyone is very helpful when it comes to providing help to see results. BEWARE!!!!
My husband joined this gym to get back into shape after not working out during the pandemic. He works full time and has a family friend that he used to work out with. He decided to get back in the gym with his friend. My husband used to work out five days a week and knows what he is doing in the gym. The Manager of the gym accused my husband of being a personal trainer with his friend and told them they could no longer work out together. My husband was furious, as would any person be, and asked that she please cancel his membership. They are refusing. We did warn them ahead of time that we would be leaving a bad review, and her response was that she would just comment below disputing our review. (So please wait for their/her response below and make your own judgement) This same manager has been mentioned several times in other reviews for her rudeness. I would urge people who enjoy working out with a friend and are aware how to use equipment/workout to please seek a different gym. It seems it is impossible to cancel your membership with this establishment and they have authority to tell you who you can and can not work out with.
We will continue to pay our membership and cancel when the contract ends. My husband explained that our bad review will cost them way more business in the long end than it would cost her to just cancel his membership. She did not care.

My fitness club closed due to poor business conditions, so I decided to visit this one. After working out there one time and discovering they have a limited amount of free weights, equipment, etc. I proceeded to leave. Upon leaving I was asked to sign a transfer form disguised as a sign- in sheet. A couple weeks later I got an email stating my membership was transferred to this club and now am a member. To make a long story short, I have been getting billed from them for the last couple of months and I have been unable to get them to cancel my membership. When you call, you get a third party company named ABC Fitness Solutions who say they cannot do anything about the situation because the clubs are all independently owned and operated. I am on the hook for this all because I signed the sheet at the front door. This is not the way to treat customers.

Poor experience at this gym. My friend had been told that he could bring a guest along for trial once every 3 days. However, after only one trial the management changed their statement completely, saying that a different guest could be brought once every 30 days. This is not written anywhere on their website. I hope they can clearly write out their policy on their website so there is no confusion for the customer. The gym otherwise is very clean and has the all the equipment most would need. If they can improve on the service and communication it would be a great workout spot in the sugar land area!

Terrible management, please avoid this gym at all costs! The manager named Ilon will lock you into a contract telling you they are flexible and are able to cancel at any time for a valid reason. My mother was diagnosed with cancer so I had to cancel my membership to avoid the risks of bringing COVID into my home. He kept making excuses and charging my account for months. He said he spoke with the owner of the gym who gave him permission to cancel my membership. However, when this was brought up, he called me a liar saying that he never spoke with the owner although he told me multiple times before that he was in touch with the owner about my situation.

I had to go through very extreme and unnecessary lengths just to cancel my membership which eventually I had to deal with my bank who worked with me in this situation. The gym facility is decent but the management is why I would give this place 0 stars if I could.

Great gym! All the equipment you could need for a good workout is available. It's also kept very clean and is not too crowded. The staff is super welcoming and helpful. The overall vibe of the gym is great.

I will not give even a single star. they are cheating!
I joined the gym February 2021 with a promotion offer of one month free, but they charged $22.99 within 15days. I went only 2days to gym. After 2weeks, Our house was damaged due to winter storm URI we had to vacate and temporarily moved 40miles away from Sugarland. We are in great loss.

The management is not cancelling the membership talking about some contract. I shared the new rental lease. But still they are not co-operative. They insist me to continue membership at my new area, during my financial hardship.
I will never go back to Anytime fitness again

This gym is a win-win for everyone.  State of the art equipment for serious hard core training and small enough for the newcomers not to feel overwhelmed.  The Manager Ilon is super friendly and knowledgeable, also gives great advice when asked.   The vibe of this gym makes you want to train hard.
Truly a great place to work out; always clean, not over crowded and open 24 hours!

Brand new gym. I was greeted by the manager upon entry who was polite and helpful. The gym has state of the art Precore equipment and is laid out functionally. New equipment is still being ordered to include a stairmaster and smith machine. This gym has all you need.
