Austin Kickboxing Academy is Austin's premier Muay Thai and Boxing Gym! First class is free! We are located off of Ben White between South Congress and I-35. If you're looking to learn a new skill or an alternative way to stay active, kickboxing and boxing are great ways to burn 500-1000 calories in one hour. We focus on technique first and will not just throw you on pads without instilling your foundation. As a student with zero experience, you'll be taught how to stand, throw basic punches and kicks, then you will refine those techniques on a heavy bag. We offer bag classes, sparring classes, kids classes, and a women's class! See our website for more information!

We were in town for four-day corporate event earlier this year. During our Saturday afternoon off, a half dozen colleagues (all boxing enthusiasts) went to Austin Kickboxing Academy to get a private lesson in boxing with coaches/owners Randy and Tessa. They were fantastic coaching us to our various levels, very knowledgeable/helpful and super-friendly.
Randy and Tessa were/are professional Muay Thai/BJJ/MMA fighters so we did twelve 3 minute rounds with 1 minute of rest in between rounds. Most of us have had some level of boxing private training and you can tell right away whether a coach is putting in the effort or just mailing it in. By the end of our session, it looked like Randy (and Tessa) had a mini-workout themselves just training us and also taking pictures/videos on our phones at our request.
All-in-all, a fantastic way to spend a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Austin for out-of-towners on business -- highly recommended!

I am humbled and honored to be back at AKA, training with Randy and his team, and spending time in the temple he and Tessa have built. They and their team of instructors exude and teach
confidence, strength, commitment, and character. But there is also a level of compassion and philosophical might that radiates from the people who teach and train at AKA. It is infectious and awesome.
Being back has warmed my soul, strengthened my mind and body, and given me another reason to remain healthy. I owe that all to Randy.
FIVE STARS for Randy, Tessa, and AKA

Best Muay Thai gym in Austin. The coaches are super knowledgeable and personable. It’s obvious how much they care about helping you improve.
Very approachable for beginners. They teach fundamentals, do bag work first, then ramp up into contact and sparring.

I have been to several Muay Thai/Kickboxing gyms around Austin, and Austin Kickboxing Academy is truly on another level. This is the only gym that’s not just about cardio workouts. it’s about actually building fighters. Coach Randy and the rest of the team are incredibly skilled and truly focus on technique. They pay attention to every little detail in your movement and constantly push you to improve.
Every class is challenging, motivating, and feels like real progress. Whether you are just starting or looking to compete, this is the place to be. If I could give 10 stars, I would!

Austin Kickboxing Academy is a true treasure in Austin. The owners, Tessa and Randy, are experienced professionals who practice what they preach and share their wealth of knowledge and experience with their students. Beyond the technical skills they teach are those of discipline, respect, confidence, and resilience. They also have a very successful competition team and out serious care into their fighters, which includes participating in fight camps alongside them.
All of the coaches are very welcoming of all levels and truly passionate about teaching. As long as you are there to learn and bring a good attitude and respect, you will be happy here and get as much out of it as you put into it.
If you are looking to acquire a new skill (for yourself or your kids), meet new friends, or even wanting to eventually compete, don't hesitate to try Austin Kickboxing Academy!

After trying out other kickboxing gyms, we were highly referred here by the coaches at my boys’ jiu-jitsu gym as having the best kickboxing classes for youth and definitely met expectations.
What really sets this place apart is how earned every belt..nothing is handed out. The kids have to put in the work, stay disciplined, and show real progress to advance. It teaches them the value of persistence and commitment in a way that carries over into every part of their lives.
The instructors are fantastic highly skilled, patient, and genuinely invested in each student’s growth & safety. They don’t just teach kickboxing. They lead by example, showing the kids what it means to be respectful, confident, and humble.
Can’t recommend this academy enough for families who want their kids to build both strong technique and strong character.

For the Ladies—This Gym Gets It!
Let’s be real: martial arts in ATX is still very male-dominated, and as women, our biggest concerns often include:
- Safety & Physical Boundaries
- Comfort & Atmosphere
- Harassment & Respect
- Strength & Skill Disparity
- Progression & Recognition
- Finding the Right Gym
As a woman who has trained at AKA for over a year, I can confidently say that every one of these concerns is taken seriously. The head coaches are incredibly dedicated to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive culture. One of the head coaches is a woman, a mother, and a former pro fighter with 20+ years of experience in Muay Thai, BJJ, wrestling, and more. I’ve personally witnessed the heart and integrity she and the rest of the team pour into this gym.
AKA arguably has one of the highest female-to-male ratios in the area. You’ll never walk into a class without female training partners, and on some days, the class can be 50/50—or even majority women. The gym also offers an all-women’s class and have female coaches on staff, as well as, competitors.
I have never had any issues with my fellow athletes—male or female. The women here are incredibly welcoming and supportive, and the men show nothing but respect and kindness. They’ve become not just training partners but family.
On a personal note: for any women who, like me, have been diagnosed with PTSD or struggle from SA or abuse, this gym has been life-changing for my mental health, confidence, and overall well-being. The safety and integrity of the gym I signed up for was critical for my success in this sport. I never feel unsafe walking in. I know that if I ever need to use my voice, the coaches will listen, respect it, and handle any concerns with grace, professionalism, and urgency.
tldr: Ladies, mothers, women of all ages—you’ve found your gym. You’ve found your fight-girl squad.

There's so much I want to say about this place but I'll do my best to keep it concise lol
AKA is my benchmark of what a FANTASTIC professional muay thai gym should be like. From the structure of classes to the dedicated coaches, this place had became my second home.
Here, I discovered an evolved version of myself that I could have never imagined. The coaches challenged me to push my bounds consistently so not only did I acquire valuable skills, body and mental fitness, I also acquired a family in the gym.
Aside from providing world class muay thai + boxing training, it's also a social gym that hosts a variety of events to expand member's interest. I will never forget the change of trajectory this gym brought me when they hosted a Latin dance workshop 2 years ago. At the end of that workshop, I was hooked to dancing and have not let it up since.
I will forever hype this place up not only because it genuinely IS A PHENOMINAL gym, but because it's a family ran business of two athletes, who came together for the love of the sport, got married, and are now passionately giving back their knowledge and expertise back to inspire others. I enjoyed the days where their kids would train in the gym along side us, it was really nice to see how their passion was inspiring even their little ones to be a part of the sport.
And for my biggest reason why this is the best muay thai gym in the nation- is how the owners, Randy and Tessa, have a ZERO tolerance for harassment and disrespect. They hold themselves and their members at the upmost regards to respect. There was an incident where a member was harassing a few women (myself included) in the gym and Randy took immediate notice of that to swifly reprimand, that now, former member. Randy also personally checked in with us if were okay after the fact.
That validated how safe I felt being in that gym knowing our wellbeing and safely as students were going to come first.
If you made it this far and still contemplating joining. Just go in for a free introductory class and see for yourself. You won't regret giving your patronage to this amazing gym and you definitely won't regret investing in your wellbeing.

Austin Kickboxing Academy is a remarkable place where every athlete feels welcome, valued, and supported. Tessa and Randy, the owners, pour their passion for martial arts into every class, fostering a safe, inclusive environment that nurtures all skill levels.
This gym is more than a training space; it’s a community. My son and I have found not just exceptional Muay Thai instruction but also a container that encourages us to grow, both in and out of the gym. Sparring is controlled, playful and supportive, with more intensity available as athletes advance and develop levels of control to maintain a safe and respectable environment.
The prioritized focus on technical skill and mental strength has been pivotal in our journey, helping us overcome personal challenges and deepen our love for the sport. If you’re looking for the best Muay Thai/MMA gym in Austin for yourself, or you little ones, where you’re welcomed at any skill level and can truly thrive, look no further than AKA.

I do not like saying unfortunately so I’m going to say as it turns out this review is LONG overdue I first tried out the free session I want to say 2017 or early 2018. No, I want the reader to keep in mind that at this time, I’m exploring gyms via Google based on the reviews and testing them out. And using that first day free trial class. One thing that stood out to me, is that this gym will teach your mind from the ground up. The reason being is because they have so much patience and teaching you the fundamentals in a creative and fun way. My coaches name was Erick he was energetic.
He was well engaged with every individual and gave feedback when it was needed. And until this day, I use that knowledge when I practice on my own. I do highly recommend this gym if you are looking to educate your mind and limbs. ☀️

I chose this gym because it was close to my house and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. I have been training here for two years (starting as a complete beginner) and just signed up for another year.
Instructors make gyms and this gym has the best around. They are extremely knowledgeable, patient, and respectful. They keep class fresh and exciting by changing up the class content and warm-ups regularly. They pay close attention to students and you can tell they really care about you. The owners of the gym are former professionals and I always learn something new when I train with them. Everyone is very friendly with each other and it has a family-like feel to it.
Some Muay Thai gyms are known for having an aggressive/intense sparring culture, but this gym keeps it technical and playful, with the option to go a little harder if you like. I think this is the perfect way to get better while being safe.
I love this gym and I would recommend it to anyone, beginner and advanced strikers alike.

I can’t say enough good things about this gym. It has set the standard for what I expect out of any gym moving forward. The coaches are great teachers and people, and have always felt like friends. They care about your improvement and enjoyment of class while pushing you to do better each class.
The facilities are large and full of useful equipment. The schedule is full of many different types of classes and focuses, and accommodate all levels of experience. The members are warm and friendly and make fast friends, while caring about the craft and helping to improve one another. I’ve learned a lot at this gym both from the coaches and the members. Best of all, there is always someone better than you at something here so you stagnation is unlikely.
The culture of this gym, from my perspective, is warm, full of respect, and focused on everyone’s improvement while maintaining safety and enjoyment. I have yet to find another gym that gets close to this, which, having moved away, has been hard. I look forward to training at this gym again in the future!

I hope you find yourself here as a member and hope to witness your growth as well, I can see how much passion is shown through coaches/instructors in supporting us. They even offer the first class free to get a feel for it, I hope you give yourself the opportunity to better your quality of life at Austin Kickboxing Academy!

Awesome experience with Austin Kickboxing Academy! First time getting into martial arts, so I did a bunch of research on all the different gyms in the area. I met with several coaches from different gyms, and decided to give it a try with Randy Vera. Randy, as well as all the coaches at AKA are warm, welcoming, and know their stuff. If I could do it over again, only thing I would do differently is sign up sooner!

My girlfriend purchased a private training session for me with Randy for my birthday and it turned out to be the absolute best gift I've ever received! Randy was extremely professional, kind, and most importantly listened to exactly what my goals were. He is the best coach I've ever worked with. Thank you, Austin Kickboxing Academy and Randy, for the great experience!

Before you sign up they treat you well, they pressure you to sign up, and then once you're in, you're treated with little to no respect. Staff is rude (especially at Brentwood) and beware because when you sign up, you're stuck there for a year with no possibility to cancel!!! Horrible experience so far, go to Club 16!! Way better, cheaper, friendly staff, and more parking. At the Brentwood location, you will waste half an hour to find parking if you go around 6-7 pm.

I have been taking classes for some months now and I can’t recommend this location enough. The instructor and all members are very kind and welcoming. The business is extremely inclusive for LGBTQIA+ folks. I have learned to view this practice as one focused on peace and harmony. We learned to fall safely early on and they even have falling classes for anyone including for older folks. I have had the chance to practice with students of different practice levels and this has been helpful for improving my practice.

I've trained in a lot of different gyms, but nothing beats Austin Kickboxing Academy - you're not just tossing chump change to retrieve a list of moves; AKA raises you the right way and treats you like an extension of the family. If you want to know what it means to be a real fighter, in every sense of the word, then there is no better option.
RANDY and TESSA (owners) have made something really special here that's hard to replicate - it's not easy creating team of skilled fighters who are interested in actually nurturing talent and skills development (shout out to ERIK, who, aside from Randy, is the best trainer in my opinion!). It's also not easy creating a warm, hospitable, and professional environment that successfully caters to "newbies" and all the way up to seasoned MMA fighters. RANDY and ERIK ensure that everyone is treated with respect and develop an understanding of hard work and integrity. They are consummate professionals.
I still remember the first time I met RANDY when he was the first to come up, say hello, and even asking if I wanted to train together. It's not always easy to get face-time with the "top of the food chain," so to speak, but there was not a hint of hierarchy or arrogance - only the desire to see that I was at AKA to improve. Later, I approached ERIK to perfect my techniques and learn about counters, counters to counters, counters to those counters, and the whole nine yards. Even though it was the first time we had met, ERIK walked me through every step of the way, always asked to see how things were going, and was as interested in my development as Randy.
I can't say enough about Austin Kickboxing Academy, Randy, and Erik - these guys are the real deal. You'll see when you come and train.

Walked into Austin Kickboxing Academy with almost zero coordination or skill. 8 months later I’m in the best shape of my life and can live my life with the confidence knowing I have the skills to defend myself. The coaches are friendly, patient, skilled, knowledgeable, and take the time to make sure every member of their gym gets the attention and instruction they need to take their skills to the next level. There are classes for both day 1 beginners and advanced level practitioners. Wether you’re brand new or you’re training for your next fight, this is the gym for you!

My experience at Austin Kickboxing Academy has been incredible. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and the gym is very well designed which allowed for a safe and effective environment during COVID. Randy and Tessa both offer advanced professional experience and their personalities have created a kind and unique culture that is apparent throughout all members of the staff.
Creating a constant learning environment for very advanced (pro/am) to beginner martial artists without driving away one end of the spectrum can be a very fine line in my experience and this place has really found exceptional footing in that regard. Folks coming from any top 10 MMA gym or those who are just getting started in their martial arts career will both easily find a dynamic and engaging home at Austin Kickboxing Academy. I would highly recommend them for anyone seeking serious growth in their striking career in the Austin area.

My favorite gym. Ever.
Been somewhat athletic/active most of my adult life but never confident or competent in the arena of self defense. Started in my late 30’s without any previous martial arts experience and felt welcome from moment 1. Called the gym and no one answered the phone (so I didn’t leave a message) but then Nick called me back just let me know he was returning my call and ask if there was anything he could do to help! Turns out, Nick is a legit tough guy and well-qualified martial arts instructor, he just does the generous/thoughtful/humble hospitality champion-thing on the side, and that’s a constant throughout this gym.
I have now been a student at the academy for 2+years and have continued to enjoy high-level training and instruction at every stage. I have tried both 1-on-1 instruction and open kickboxing classes and feel challenged/rewarded by both. Also, for the professionals or those simply looking to level-up and challenge themselves, sparring options exist here for a variety of skill levels. I sparred here for the first time and felt grateful that I was able to enjoy such a thrilling experience in a safe environment. Not an easy line to toe. My daughter has also attended the Kids MMA class and coaches Tessa and Erik always treat her with warmth, care, and respect.
Respect is another constant throughout this gym. It is a place for martial artists of all levels (there’s one couple who train there regularly that are in their 60s/70s and they are beginners and doing fantastic) looking to grow/learn and the perfect arena for personal development. It is a serious gym run by a special group of people who take their approach to making people feel welcome and comfortable as seriously as they do teaching the proper technique for throwing the Round kick.
I continue to be a beginner-level Muay Thai student, which brings me to my final story. The rates here are reasonable, and the owners clearly aren’t cheap. They want to foster long-term relationships, not chase the quick buck. Three months into my training, I had an unrelated-to-Muay-Thai-elbow-
injury (long story short: don’t play flag football in your 40s, instead train at AKA with Coach Randy and he will get you properly warm/loose so that you’re strong but, more importantly, safe and healthy to train again the next session) that needed to be surgically repaired. I had paid for my membership in advance and they gave me my money back with no hassle whatsoever, which is NOT how the big box gyms would have handled my situation, I can guarantee. It took me a while to heal and return and restart my upward trajectory, but the coaches and training partners here have been generous and supportive along the way as I continue my own path as a martial artist.
Obviously, I’m a fan. This is a gym where I have learned and grown physically and spiritually, and these developments have directly led to an increase in my confidence and quality of life. And I’m NOT a fighter, just someone who wants to be better today than yesterday and found the place that helps me accomplish this goal better than any other. If you’ve ever been interested in learning Muay Thai or wanted to learn more about yourself as a martial artist, please come check this place out so I can keep coming here for the rest of my life.

These cats were welcoming and cool when I first visited, interested in my business. You know, basic customer service skills. All that went out the window once they finally got my money and started a membership. I came here as a newbie, interested in learning the art of kickboxing as I did combatives in the Army. The thing that sold me was when they said I could come in at any time and use the facility like a true 'dojo'. They knew I was a beginner but no one said a word or would even lend me a single tip of instruction when I came to open gym. That doesn't come off as a true martial arts temple to me.... accidentally picked up a dudes gloves and he looked at me like I stole his lunch money. I don't know if it was because I was black, tattooed, or what. You new Austin folks are a trip. The point of this review is: Learn how to foster an environment comfortable for all customers not just when it's convenient. That's basic customer 101

Austin Kickboxing Academy is an EXCELLENT place to train! The instructors are amazing tacticians that emphasize the importance of the fundamentals while also applying unique guidance to every student based on his/her skill level. I’ve been fighting my entire life, yet every training session I learn something new and relevant to my fighting style and experience level. I spent months looking for the right gym to train at and many gyms fell short of my expectations. However, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon AKA and the place has exceeding my expectations and then some! The instructors are welcoming, friendly, and highly proficient at their craft. I look forward to continuing my training with AKA for many years to come! I highly encourage my fellow military/law enforcement professionals to stop by AKA and get some fantastic training in! I had the opportunity to train at the Austin Kickboxing Academy for six months while visiting Austin for work. Randy and Tessa have set up a wonderful world class gym. All of the coaches are very experienced and are great instructors. The atmosphere at the gym is very friendly and whether you are looking to compete or train to get into or stay in shape, I highly recommend the gym. Additionally, they often run seminars from world renowned Muay Thai competitors and coaches. While I was there, I was able to to benefit from attending a seminar instructed by Jongsanan Woodenman. Finally, during my time in Austin, I experienced the transition and expansion from the old gym to their fantastic new space. I hope to be able to come back to Austin soon to train.

I started practicing Aikido at Austin Ki Movement with my partner about 9 months ago. I was a beginner while he had been practicing for several years. Despite this difference in experience, Senseis Jason and Janet have been able to gear classes such that he can practice what he needs to know for advanced rank requirements while I am able to participate the same techniques at a more basic level. With their encouragement and help to prepare, I recently completed my test for 5th Kyu, which is the first rank.
Although classes are active, they’re not intensely cardio-based, which is good for me. I have some health issues with headaches and fatigue that sometimes keep me from fully participating, but I can usually get through at least an hour. The senseis are always encouraging if I want to try something but understanding if I need to sit out. I usually leave class feeling better than when I went in. I have found a lot of basic techniques and principles help me in my daily life as well.

This places is amazing, and the staff is wonderful, friendly, and funny. Everyone makes you feel like you are a part of the group. It is very welcoming. They're like family.
The coaches watch during the class and will help everyone with proper form and technique. If I still don't understand the coach will take time to carefully explain and demonstrate. They will make sure before the end of the round, you understand the mechanics of the movement. Kickboxing offers several levels, and you will not move up until you can demonstrate enough proficiency. It is amazing how important safety is here. I know I am I great hands here.
I finished one contract and signed up for another. Pricing I believe is fair. Unfortunately they moved adding almost 30 minutes to my ride, and already commuting 45 minutes, it's too much. I spoke to the people at the front and they are very understanding of the situation. We were able to come to an agreement. Even if a situation arises, they work quickly to get it resolved. I never have to put effort into addressing anything. Again, just another example of how important customer service is to them, and how helpful everyone is.
I highly recommend this place! If they open a second location up north, I would gladly re-join.
Everyone should come in and at least try the free class. You will be happy you did 😁

I've been doing martial arts for 10 years, a fitness instructor for 3 years and have also been an athlete my entire life, THIS is the place where I go to get what I need! Austin Kickboxing Academy checks every box.. World Class Instructors ✔ Positive Vibes, the overall FEEL of a gym ✔ Top of the line equipment that they have in abundance ✔ Family friendly and family oriented establishment ✔ Well kept and organized gym ✔ Highly thought out and successful programs ✔ And the list goes on! Every instructor at AKA is an accomplished fighter in their own discipline and are highly knowledgeable in articulating their knowledge on to their students. As a competing martial artist and an active stunt performer, I need my technique not only BEING sharp but LOOKING sharp as well (for film) and that's where AKATX comes in! I never leave without either learning something new or having my current technique critiqued in some way, which is exactly what I need to be the best I can be! I could go on about how much attention to detail the AKATX coaches pays to every one of their stundents of ALL levels but one of the X factor products these coaches have is what good people they are overall. Austin Kickboxing Academy is owned and operated by a husband/wife couple whom have been together for well over a decade and have been training martial arts for even longer! The rest of the coaching staff love to teach and love what they do! AKATX owners/staff members also won't hesitate to help their members in not only in skillful matters but in personal matters as well and that's what being a true martial artist is all about.. I'm a born and raised Austinite and I say it proudly that AKATX is THE kickboxing gym of Austin! If you want to learn a new skill, become a fighter, be a weekend warrior, get in one of the best workouts you've ever had, want to surround yourself with great like minded people who are training along side you or just want to learn how to defend yourself, then Austin Kickboxing Academy is the place for you..

This gym has all level of fighters and the coaches themselves are/were professional fighters. So it's not just a bootcamp boxing or Bootcamp Muay Thai class. They teach proper technique and for anyone up for it you can also spar. What I also like about this gym, no egos and everyone shows respect for each other. True fight gym. I've been training for 12 years. I've lived in Austin for 7 of those. Randy and all these folks are some of the first people I met in austin...even though I am a coach and athlete and part of a different gym, I see AKA as my second home. All the coaches are rad (much nicer than myself) I joined this gym to supplement my training and it has been great. There's no bull***t, there's no ego, it's a dope facility, it's cheaper than most spots for what they offer. I'm extremely happy to be there. You show up and grind. Coaches show you stuff they've learned in all their years of training and help you figure it out....WHICH IS A LOT OF YEARS. They got a good formula.
IF you don't like this gym you either don't want to work and get better, or you have severely misunderstood the process of training for combat sports.
I highly recommend this gym.

I have been training for over ten years now, and have moved around a lot, so I have been in a few gyms. If you don't already know, no gym is the same. With that being said Austin Kickboxing Academy is one of the best out there. From the moment I walked in I was welcomed by the front desk. Toured the gym, met the coaches with the same warm welcome. They set classes accordingly with beginner, intermediate, and advanced sections so nobody is getting left out or left behind. Class is set with a warm up, technique work and then exercise. So you get a proper warm up, learn something and get your exercise. Doesn't matter if you are looking for just fitness or interested in learning to fight, you will stay learning and getting in the best shape ever. If you haven't checked them out, you are missing out. The people there are a great everyone helps everyone type community, giving a family vibe, you will not be disappointed. I love these people and was sad to move away. 3yrs was not enough.

I did Muay Thai for a few years and last year decided that I should start practicing again. I LOVED my past coaches so was super hesitant to try a new place. After reading tons and tons of reviews, I checked this gym out because it seemed the most similar to what I was looking for - a gritty gym, not boutiquey or fluffy, focused on the technique and practice rather than getting a good workout.
All I can really say is that is exactly what you get, plus an insane workout every time. The coaches are awesome and super helpful. You're broken up into groups based on your experience with a dedicated coach who will tweak little things you're doing wrong so you learn proper technique. Everyone, even the most experienced students, is super nice and helpful, and will offer advice to help you improve. It's such an encouraging environment, so it never feels like they're speaking down to you.
The coaches are super patient and easygoing, but will call you out if you are acting out of line or being disrespectful which I really appreciate.
For reference: Currently taking 3-4 classes a week plus 1:1 training with Randy. I highly recommend personal training if you want to improve quickly or focus on certain elements of your training.
I've taken a few people there for their first Muay Thai class ever and they loved it, but some things you should be aware of if you're new to this style of gym:
- First class is free and includes equipment you will need. Get there early so you have time to get setup and don't feel rushed before class.
- This isn't a boutique fitness gym. You can rent wraps and gloves, and they have some extra shin guards, but buy your own stuff - it's easier
- When you're beginning and learning how to wrap your hands, watch videos at home and give your self extra time to get wrapped before the warmup
- If you have a jump rope, bring it just in case
Other than that, just show up. It's a great time!

I joined this gym about 7 months ago, and I couldn’t be happier! I’ve always wanted to join a kickboxing gym, but was too afraid. I found this gym after a little searching on the internet ,and after reading other reviews and viewing pictures, I had been convinced and decided to give it a shot.
First class was FREE, and everything I needed was provided. I was given a tour of the gym, and later was taught how to wrap my hands before class began. All coaches/staff were extremely welcoming, which definitely helped with my nervousness. During class I was helped with anything (and everything at that point haha) I was having trouble with, and the coaches were very encouraging throughout the duration of the class. After class membership options were gone over with me, and not once was I pressured into signing up for anything I didn’t want to. I actually didn’t end up signing up that same day even though I knew I was going to, and they were totally cool with that. :)
7 months later, and I am still in awe with the attitude of the coaches, and the gym itself. After being worked with, and pushed (but not too hard) I definitely feel a difference in my skills compared to when I first started. I’ve lost a lot of weight, and have noticed muscle growth, but most importantly my confidence and overall happiness has increased tremendously!
As serious as they are about their work/training the coaches, and members of this gym are really friendly, fun, and silly people, which really adds to the experience. Needless to say, I’m really glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and joined AKA!

Quality over quantity. They give each student a personal touch. Great atmosphere. Awesome coaches. Awesome team atmosphere as well. Doesn’t matter what level you are, Coach Randy will definitely tell you how great you are doing and most importantly what you need to work. Highly recommend. Be prepared to have your patience, dignity and body tested.

Austin Kickboxing Academy is a rare gem. The coaches are knowledgeable, encouraging, and just the right amount of tough. The atmosphere that they have created is something not easily found in other gyms. Everyone, from staff to students, is friendly and encouraging.

My mother enrolled me in the kids classes and I’m so glad she did! I was so out of my comfort zone and was so hesitant at first but the coaches are excellent and I’ve already learned so much in the little bit of time I’ve been there. I recommend it to other people I know and so will my parents.

If you want to learn proper form and technique for boxing, kickboxing, and muay thai, this is the school for you. Most of the coaches have competed on a professional level and the environment is very nurturing for all levels from beginners to seasoned fighters. Whether you're trying to find something fun to help keep you in shape, learn how to protect yourself, or you want a taste of glory in the ring, AKA has something for everybody. I have trained here for 1.5 years and am continuously learning something new.

I walked into this academy as an individual with a very basic fight training from another academy in town, and the first thing that impressed me about the fundamentals class here is the attention to detail. The coaches are very observant, and will step in with helpful guidance on how to improve technique & form- they won’t allow you to continue a poor technique just for the sake of you just getting a “workout”. It is important to them that you actually improve your effectiveness decrease risk of injury from bad technique. I highly recommend this academy if details matter to you, and a fun yet professional environment appeals to you!

I believe I am almost at my 6 month mark at Austin Kickboxing academy, and I am so happy I joined. The atmosphere is great, the coaches are passionate, and training is intense (a good intense)! Training at Austin Kickboxing Academy has given me confidence while getting in shape and learning an amazing skill. I wanted to join a gym like this, as I'm new to the city, and I have no regrets! If you are looking to join a great community in Austin, definitely join AKA! Also, if you do boxing, don't forget your mouth piece when you hit the floor!

I started training here a few years ago at the behest of my therapist, and I am so so glad I found this place! It's an amazing gym with terrific instructors! They are always working to change up the focus each month so that you can keep all your skills sharp and work on all different techniques so that you become a well rounded fighter!
On top of that, the physical conditioning I've been put through has done wonders for my cardio health and physical well being. I dropped about 30lbs within the first year of working out here and now I've been steadily building muscle especially in my legs and shoulders/arms.
I started working out here a depressed mess and in terrible physical health and they've done so much to help me turn that around. All the instructors are very kind, caring, and always answer any questions you have about fitness and health and other types of training.
I love this gym so much - they feel like family :D

This Gym is the real deal. I started my journey at AKA to get into shape, but have found so much more in the short time I've been coming. Everyone is really supportive and positive regardless of where your fitness is. You will definitely be pushed to work hard which is exactly what I need. I'm humbled to work with so many talented people practicing expert technique and control. I'm learning so much more then I expected . Physically I'm transforming, mentally I'm growing. It's a great place. I signed my son up after coming home and raving about it he absolutely loves his classes and coaches. Glad I picked this gym.

I’ve been at AKA for almost three months and I love it! For someone who is starting from zero martial art experience, this place challenges me physically and and also encourages discipline and practice. The coaches are great at explaining concepts and combinations and even if I’m struggling with something, I don’t feel left behind. Even after this short time I feel like I am actually getting better and using my body more fluidly each class!
Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy a new hobby or just trying to stay in shape!

Where to even start....
Joining this gym has been an amazing journey for me. I started at this gym not knowing much about Muay Thai or Boxing about 6 years ago other than I knew it was something I had been wanting to try out for a long time. I came in not knowing how to properly throw a punch and intimidated by it all but that all changed thanks to the instruction and encouragement by all the coaches there - Coach Charles, Randy, Nhan, and Tessa. Now I consider myself a fighter and have won 3 out of 4 boxing fights I have competed in and even have a shiny Golden Gloves jacket up on my bedroom wall.
I had tried out a couple other gyms before joining AKA and they did not compare at all to the amount of technical training and expertise you get when you come here. Each time you train someone is going to be watching you and making sure you are doing things the right way so that you don't hurt yourself and so that you learn how to do everything properly which is so important whether you want to compete in fights or just do this stuff for fitness and fun.
Even if you are just starting out, they will cater to everyone's individual level and you will improve fitness and technique wise in a safe feeling environment. When you join this gym, you really also join a community. It is very empowering to come in not knowing how to defend yourself and after some training, come out feeling confident and strong. If your goal is to just get into shape or to compete in your first fight - they can get you there.
Psa: this is not just a kickboxing gym! The boxing program is superb and Coach Charles and Nhan are excellent boxing coaches that can train you to where you want to be!

I used to be a personal trainer so when deciding on a training place I take it serious. I didn’t want a fitness kickboxing type place. I wanted quality instruction from people who can actually fight. The coaches here are very friendly and know what they’re talking about. I’m very happy with how the classes are ran making everyone feel included and intensity. It’s a perfect mix of challenge and support. Definitely come try a class!

The coaches at this gym are really great, they're very technical and will constantly correct you but not in a demeaning way. I never did anything like this and I'm enjoying it so much I currently find myself telling my family and friends they really need to try this or something like this out. My 2 sons are also members and I'm noticing a change in my oldest sons confidence he's really building a relationship with the coaches and with other boxers and they enjoy sharing their knowledge with him.

I've been going to AKA for about three months now and absolutely love it! The coaches are very attentive and do a fantastic job of teaching their students the proper technique for kickboxing and Muay Thai. To be honest, for someone that's never been involved in any martial arts up until very recently I'm bummed I didn't start sooner! As a novice, I really enjoy that they create a unique routine for every class that focuses on different strikes and combos to help to build up your overall arsenal. You can tell that they have a passion for Muay Thai that is passed down to their students through hard work and persistence.

I enrolled my 12 year old daughter into the Kids MMA class, and she is LOVING it! She leaves the classes feeling energized and strong. She points out how practicing in this environment makes her feel so good. The instructors are kind and directive, and the supervised interactions between the students encourages them to practice their new martial arts skills in a safe and nurturing environment. The instructors include men and women. There is a mix of ages for the children, and the different levels of experience in the kids help all kids feel welcome.
We recommend this class!

They stay late, come early, and are always there to help you if you ask for it. Each class has plenty of coaches there to help you, so you never feel like you are left to your own devices. I've been going to AKA now for 3 years and it is hands down the best place to train in Austin. Not only is the staff there supportive, attentive and honest, but so are most of the other members. It is has open doors for all people that are wanting to learn and they don't tolerate any inappropriate aggression or behavior. In a nutshell, it is a welcoming and safe environment that focuses on technique and family values.

Austin Kickboxing Academy is run by a great group of people that are very passionate about what they do. The classes are structured to progressively build on eachother by sharpening technique and reinforcing fundamentals.
Randy and Tessa are world class fighters that visit Thailand to attend training camps, and always bring what they learn back to their students. The transfer of knowledge is second to none. All of the coaches are great, bringing their own style and experiences to the table. You can expect to see legitimate Thai style Muay Thai, Dutch style kickboxing, kickboxing, western boxing, and a mix of everything in between.
Training here, you will run into a range from professional fighters, amateur level, and also people that just want to get a great workout and relieve some stress. The culture and community are welcoming and act like a big family. Whether you want to train to fight in the ring, learn skills that can be applied to REAL self defense, or just get in great shape you need to check this place out.

This is a terrific gym that will not only improve your physical conditioning, but also your mental strength. It's a positive environment that I recommend to anyone looking to improve their conditioning and become part of a special community.
As quick background, I'm in my early 40s and until January 2018 had never done any martial arts in my life. Now, nine months later, I've lost 20 pounds, started eating better and living a much healthier life style (read: less drinking because man it sucks to train when hungover), acquired new skills that I never would have expected at this age, and even made some new friends. It's been really great.
And one of the main reasons for that is the positive, inclusive environment in this gym. Make no mistake, the coaches and trainers here will push you, but that's what good coaches do -- and they do so in a way that develops positive mindsets. It's also very gender balanced and it's fun to see the younger children come to train on the weekend.
If you haven't tried muay thai before, don't be intimidated. Come in, take the free class, and start to develop new habits of body and mind. If your experience is anything like mine has been, you'll feel it's the best money you've ever spent (and, p.s., it's very affordable as gyms go).

I've trained at AKATX for over 2 years and I cannot say enough how much I love this gym. All the coaches are very experienced and highly trained. They put a lot of focus on proper technique; they explain techniques thoroughly and provide helpful constructive criticism to help you hone your skills. The conditioning here is also amazing; the coaches really know how to push you to do your very best in every class. The classes are physically challenging, but the results are clear; I've consistently seen that our fighters have better stamina compared to fighters from other gyms.
AKATX offers a free trial class and doesn't pressure you to sign up or force you to sign long contracts. The classes are split by skill level so newcomers don't have to feel intimidated and advanced students never feel stunted. Whether you're training for a fight or just trying to get in shape, the coaches support your goals. I highly recommend this gym to anyone of any skill level--as long as you're willing to take the challenge and give it your all.

I love this gym! I've been training with the academy since the beginning of the summer and have felt my strength and cardio improve immensely in the few short months I have been attending classes. The coaches are great at focusing on technique and guiding you through pad work, drilling and sparring. Aside from the workout, the community at the gym is warm and welcoming; since joining I have been able to connect with other members and become friends with the people I train with. I would highly recommend this gym to beginners or advanced students!

I still consider myself fairly new to Austin even though I've been for two-going on three years now. I wanted to find an alternative way to stay active, and came across Austin Kickboxing Academy. I made an appointment with Randy Vera to get an idea of his background and training. I try to be as intentional and purposeful in how I support small own businesses due to the gentrification in the area. I have been training with Randy since summer 2018 (about 3 months or so now). I initially only signed up for one set of sessions (20 classes), but enjoy working with Randy so much, that I can see myself training with him as long as I am in Austin. Therefore, I signed up for another 20 classes and look forward to continue working with him. Randy is full of positive energy, uplifting, down-to-earth, and always challenges you to your fullest potential. The rest of the team who give off more of a family vibe--Tessa, Nick, Erik, Charles--are always welcoming and reflect Randy's energy. I highly recommend this place whether you are just a beginner or more advanced because these folks will definitely help you reach your goals.

If I could give less Stars I would! Worst experience visiting a gym & will never step foot here again. New in town and looking to find a gym so I asked if the first class was free and the front desk douche said absolutely first class is always free. I got dropped off expecting to work and showed up on time for kickboxing but by time the doucher finished the "tour" class had begun so I just found a empty bag to work on but the owner saw me alone and stopped me. Asked me if I was in the class and I said I just finished the tour & didn't know where to go and instead of putting me in the drill he took me back to the front desk and said I was breaking the rules. Now I'm sitting in the corner like i was told talking to the boxing coach waiting for the next class to start and next thing I know I'm being told I have to pay $25 now if I want to train AFTER BEING TOLD I WAS OK TO TRAIN TODAY!. EVEN the boxing coach was pissed! followed me outside wanting me to come back & spar his fighter but we didn't know why I was being treated like this. Every gym in town offers a free class but I chose this place & completely wasted my night.
