Absolutely love this location and never had a problem until I took Isabella’s class for the first time. During the whole class I was being picked on. She would continuously call me out in front of the whole class. Saying “we shouldn’t be going too deep like this” and POINTING AT ME. I could not catch a break the whole time and she could not keep her eyes off me. One thing I love about black swan is that I feel comfortable there and if I need to do something to help me that I can do it. I mean I did PAY and it’s MY TIME, so I should be able to do a stretch or revise a move that I might not be able to do. That’s not even the worst thing that happened. Some random lady walked in 20 minutes already into the class. Not dressed at all like she was going to workout. This lady was obviously homeless and kept walking around talking to herself. She would hide in the back doing god knows what while Isabella didn’t even bat an eye. I felt so unsafe in that moment and was scared she was gonna do something insane. At the end of the class the random lady walked out and the instructor followed her asking if she paid for class and of course she didn’t. The instructor just let her walk away without any payment of explanation. Then someone else who was in the class ran out saying that the homeless lady STOLE HER WALLET. She chased after her while Isabella just stood there and twiddled her thumbs. Like this could of easily been avoided if she stepped up and took some initiative. Literally the worst and craziest yoga class I’ve ever been too. I will always come back to Black Swan, but not for Isabella.

As a physical therapist, I’m always looking for ways to keep my body moving well outside the clinic, and Black Swan Yoga is one of my favorite spots in Austin. Their instructors do an incredible job of creating classes that are accessible yet challenging, and they bring a great balance of strength, mobility, and mindfulness.

From a PT perspective, I especially appreciate how well the flows support joint health, core stability, and breath control—all things I encourage my own patients to focus on. The classes are set up so you can tailor the intensity to how your body feels that day, whether you’re recovering from a workout or wanting a strong sweat.

The atmosphere is welcoming, the community is diverse, and the studios feel vibrant without being intimidating. Whether you’re new to yoga or an athlete looking to cross-train, Black Swan is a fantastic choice to keep your body healthy and resilient.

Great local studio with a myriad of teachers. Most of the classes I’ve take have been a blend of Hatha and vinyasa styles with each teacher bringing something unique to the practice. Moved here from San Diego and loved the donation based model as it made practicing affordable while job hunting.

I took the 2:30p (Wednesday) Swan Sculpt with Diana, and it was hands down one of the most fun and challenging workouts I’ve had in a while. The class itself is a perfect mix of yoga, strength training, and cardio. What really made the class memorable was Diana’s energy. She commanded the room with confidence and clarity, guiding us through every movement with intention, and just the right amount of push.

Her playlist was chefs kiss 🤌🏾 her cues were great, and she brought such a positive, motivating vibe that made even the hardest moments feel empowering 🤍

Burning Palo Santo in yoga classes is a serious health hazard. BSY refuses to stop this reckless practice despite mountains of evidence from The American Lung Association that releasing VOCs into an aerobic environment centered on deep breathing is dangerous and irresponsible, increases risks for everything from emphysema, asthma, COPD, and even lung cancer.

The room is spacious and the artwork is pretty. Also the sound system is impressive. My biggest beef is that almost all of the classes that I have taken here are a misrepresentation of yoga and were actually dangerous and disregulating. Why call it yoga if it is not?

I have been going to this location off and on for 7 years. I go in a pinch, when my preferred studio is closed. The only pro is their affordability and they have classes all day long.
Cons:
Packed to the brim. You WILL get other people’s sweat splashed on you.
They do not clean in between classes. Or ever, it seems. Dirtiest yoga studio I have ever seen.
It smells like a moldy, nasty locker room. A lot of the patrons don’t use deodorant 🤮🤮🤮
Music is insanely loud. You cannot hear the instructor.
Very loud breathers. Close your eyes and it feels like you’re on a filthy, body odor smelling porn set.

Black Swan Yoga in South Austin (Westgate location) is hands down my favorite yoga studio in Austin! All the instructors are so positive and talented—they truly put their heart and soul into every class. The vibe and environment are incredibly relaxing, and I always leave feeling refreshed and inspired. I also love that it’s donation-based, which makes yoga accessible to everyone. Plus, it’s such a great place to meet like-minded people. I’m so thankful for this studio and the amazing community it’s created!

This review is for the Westgate South Austin location, it is located next to a prosthetics clinic for amputees which have 3 designated parking spots of which patrons of this yoga studio location carelessly and selfishly continue to park in these parking spots. I have emailed black swan yoga about this issue but they don’t find it necessary to monitor that their students do not park in these parking spots or have patrons who are simply too self centered and privileged to leave these parking spots available for amputees.

I really like BSYoga! I love that it's affordable (donation based) and so beginner friendly!!

Their instructors are really kind and friendly! This is exactly what I've been looking for to exercise and quit my sedentary lifestyle!
I go as often as I can, without much worry since there's no contract commitment. Def worth a try!
***I also like that you can go to any location, any day!

The only thing I wish was different is how they collect the donations if you drop in. It can be a bit embarrassing to say out loud, in front of everyone, how much you can donate, especially when you can't donate as much as others. I would go probably 3x as often if I didn't have to say my donation out loud, but I can't afford to as I feel embarrassed in the current model.

I've been a committed member of Black Swan for nearly 2 years and feel it's time to express my appreciation through a review. For those new to yoga, entering a studio can be daunting, but Black Swan is the perfect place for beginners. They go out of their way to ensure everyone feels seen, comfortable, and enjoys their experience. I highly recommend giving it a try.

To the owners and teachers at Black Swan, thank you for everything. I've been coming five times a week for the past two years and it never loses its appeal. I genuinely cherish this community. My only suggestion would be to implement mat markers, as mats tend to spread out and it can be difficult to find a comfortable space. I adore BSY and look forward to continuing my journey with you.

P.S. Abby Fine is an exceptional teacher. Her passion and love for yoga shine through beautifully.

I enjoy black swan yoga. There flow not only stretches you but also tones you, along with a nice sweat. It’s like a 3 in one to me! I feel like I not only worked out some tension but also accomplished a work out when I leave. Which is why they are so popular imo. Unfortunately a lot of the negative reviews of them over booking their classes is true. I don’t enjoy the whole room being mat to mat. Having a few inches of space is nice especially with how hot the room is. Lastly, sometimes they do have the music way to loud which leaves me feeling lost because I can’t hear the instructor, when asked they do turn it down. Still one of my fav studios over all tho! And not all classes are as packed as others. Just wish they would lower capacity for their evening classes.

Tried this studio for the first time, and I won’t be back. It was truly chaotic. I love a good hot yoga class, but immediately upon walking in the stench of sweat hit me in the face. They were WAY over capacity, at one point the instructor mentioned 102 people were there! Because of that, the class didn’t start on time because people couldn’t find space, and I ended up crammed in the very corner with only a couple inches of space between my neighbors. The music was loud and I could hardly hear the instructor for at least half the class. The class I went to was supposed to be for all levels and I’m no beginner to yoga, but there is no way this class was suitable for beginners due to the pace and environment. Honestly I could go on, but overall I felt a lot more stressed after the class than coming in to it.

I’ve taken a class here a few times and was really liking it. Sadly, this last time I was late and had to do the class in the narrow hallway by the bathroom so I left quickly due to discomfort. The instructor Mari asked me if I’m alright and I said I was uncomfortable so she said it’s because you’re 8 mins late. OK true, but you also overbook your classes. NO ONE looked comfortable. Not one person in that class had space to extend their arms to the side or kick their legs out, they all had less than a foot space between them, some people were around the corner of the hallway and couldn’t see the instructor. Super lame because they seemed great at first.

I used to go here all the time, but now in January all their classes are at capacity. I got there like 2 minutes before class and had to leave because there was nowhere to put my mat. They need to lower the capacity limit. Too many people in one place.

Space and instructors are great. The only downside I've experienced in almost every class (I practice 4 days a week) is that they allow people to come into the class at anytime, even after it's started.

They have a sign on the door that says the door will be locked during class, yet I have only seen it locked once.

In a conversation with their customer support manager I learned that their policy is to lock the door 10 minutes after class starts.

She told me that I am in the minority in requesting that they lock the door before the teacher starts instruction, and they want to cater to the majority.

So the impact is that in almost every class the door opens bringing cool air into the hot room, people make noise walking around and dropping their mats down.

Apparently they're so afraid of losing customers they don't care about ensuring a quality experience for those that show up on time.

I’ve been practicing hot Vinyasa for many years and I’ve experienced a lot of different studios. As a busy mom, what I love about the studio is how many class times they have, and the flexibility and affordability of the donation based approach. Since I often have to take breaks from yoga because of a sick toddler and have a constantly shifting schedule, this flexibility has been great as opposed to many studios with expensive monthly subscriptions and limited class times. I also really enjoy the diversity of this community.

My favorite classes are the weekday mornings when it’s not too crazy, but there’s still enough energy and feeling of community.

The cons of this studio mostly come down to the fact that the facility itself could use some updates. Mirrors only span part of the studio, the big open ceilings make it sort of echoey and really hard to hear some instructors, and the floors often still feel sticky between classes. Another bathroom stall would also be a huge help since some classes have 80+ people and there’s without fail a bathroom line before classes with only 2.

Instructors are mostly good, although I do often wish that they would put more focus on giving specific cues for alignment since that’s really where many of us can grow and learn and relearn the nuances in our practice. Overall a great place!

It was my first time in today. I signed up online and paid before the class. None of the descriptions for flow say it's hot yoga. I truly did not need hot yoga today. I needed restorative, and I had to leave halfway through because it was too much for my adrenals. It says for all levels but it's definitely not for beginners.

Usually love the yoga classes, but they don't put a cap on attendance. I've counted almost 90 people in a class before, which is probably way over the legal/ fire code limit. They will cram people in with only inches between right up to the wall for popular times, which ruins the experience.

I want to like Black Swan... I love what they're about with their accessible yoga policy. And I do think their instructors know what they're doing. But I just don't think this studio is for me. At the two Monday 5:30p classes I've gone to, the music is so loud that you can't hear the instructor. That, plus the very creative ways into certain poses, means that it's hard to know what you're supposed to be doing. I feel like I'm constantly craning my neck to see what others are doing - which is bad for the neck.

I've been to hot yoga before, but this one is a hair too humid for me. It's honestly unsafe for me because I feel like one wrong move and I'll slip and hurt myself - which also means that I'm never really fully giving myself to the pose because I'm bracing for fear of slipping. I have done hot yoga before and have a high end mat so it's not the mat.

Anyway, loads of people like this place. And it's worth checking out because of how accessible it is. But I wanted to leave a review for the newbies. Definitely get there with enough time to try to get in the middle where you might hear better. Bring a large towel. And I'd recommend pants + tank that covers your whole torso and core so you have some fabric to absorb the copious amount of sweat that will pool on your mat. And don't be discouraged if this place isn't for you! There are other options out there. I've done yoga for a decade and every place I've gone to is unique. You just have to find the right fit for you :) Namaste!

I had my very first yoga class ever today with Black Swan yoga.

My instructor today was Jacquelyn for the "Flow" class. She made me feel welcome from the moment I entered, gave me a quick layout of the facility, and pointed out where I could grab some blocks for the class. The class itself was great. Be ready to sweat! I loved the hot yoga experience. I also really appreciated the repetitive, verbal assurance that certain poses and positions were open to interpretation. This allowed me to feel way more comfortable! Cant wait for my next class!

I’ve only been to Black Swan once so maybe they had a bad day, but I feel like overall this place is one of those hipster cults that exploits the practice of yoga beyond the recognizable. It was recommended that we arrive 15 minutes early to class, so
I spent those 15 minutes waiting in a large winding line outdoors in 100+ degrees to get in. Once the doors opened it was a mad rush to the mats and no real room between students. I couldn’t hear the instructions above the music but people seemed to be doing whatever they wanted anyway. No options/modifications were given that I could hear. There wasn’t much of a flow, more of a weird peacocking scene of who could show off the most progressive position. Also, I really can’t stand when they don’t tell you ahead of time (class description or otherwise) that it’s a hot yoga class. I wanted to get up and leave so many times because I was so nauseous but there were so many people and I was super far from the exit. Made it to the end where they passed out free sparkling water….

My mom has been going here regularly for quite some time and I recently started joining her in attending yoga classes here. Our regular instructor, Caitlin, is wonderful and we always leave her class feeling relaxed and accomplished (and sweaty!). It does get hot in the studio (especially during this time of year when temperatures creep up past 100), so you will work up a sweat, but just make sure to bring water and you will be fine.

I’m pretty obsessed, I go 5-10x per week, the schedule is perfect for me, lots of options to flow. Mari, Bryce, and Sky are my faves. However, there is room for improvement, most notably the lack of mirrors in the corner, yuck looking toilet seats that need to be replaced, and the stick on the wall mural that cheapens the vibe and takes away from the awesome hand drawn swan mural.

I recently started doing yoga again after many years of being a lazy bum. BSY has consistently exceeded my expectations. As with anywhere, some instructors are better than others but you quickly learn whose classes you like. Everyone is super nice and welcoming. I thoroughly enjoy practicing there. As far as covid goes, they take your temperature when you enter the building and I’ve seen them sanitize thoroughly after each class. The westgate location doesn’t require masks on the mat, but it’s a large well ventilated room. The Caesar Chavez location is a smaller building so they do require masks the entire time. Overall, the classes are great, the people are wonderful and that keeps me coming back. Thanks Black Swan!

It's very frustrating that I know so many businesses that have gone out of their way to not only comply with State COVID guidelines but then have been forced to shut down due to others bad behavior. Black Swan is not taking the health and safety of the community into consideration and is not requiring masks, even though it is mandated by our Governor throughout the state. I was very disappointed to go to class and no one was wearing a mask and I had to walk away. I too own a fitness studio and couldn't put my staff & students at risk by exercising someplace that isn't following guidelines. If my students and staff can wear a mask while doing cardio then certainly Black Swan can enforce a mask for use during yoga. Ridiculous. THIS is exactly the reason why the US will never be rid of COVID and others must suffer the consequences.
