Brazos Valley Barbell is everything a gym should beβ€”and more. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with genuine kindness and professionalism. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and passionate about fitness. They made me feel welcome, whether I was asking questions, needing help with equipment, or just getting my bearings.

This gym may have a more old-school, no-frills vibe compared to flashy rec centers, but it has everything you need for a serious and effective workout. The equipment is solid, the atmosphere is focused and motivating, and the community is full of people who are here to work hard and support each other.

I gladly paid the few extra dollars to train hereβ€”and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. It’s locally owned, which makes supporting it even more worthwhile. Brazos Valley Barbell doesn’t just meet expectationsβ€”it exceeds them.

If you’re tired of overcrowded, impersonal fitness centers and want a place that truly values its members, this is the gym for you. Highly recommend!

For those who travel through College Station often and are looking for a gritty gym supporting the core lifts and overall strength training mentality, this is the place!

Low cost for day/week passes and 24hr access with all the name brand gear to get it done! Totally recommended to keep your lifts going when you’re worried you have to go to a GLOBO gym instead.

I've been going to this gym for over two years now. Very friendly staff and owner. If you are looking for a gym that has powerlifting, weightlifting, or strongman equipment this is the place. I came for the equipment and I stayed because of the culture. The gym is full of insanely strong and hard working people. Everyone is kind and shares equipment. There is also a great PT that works here and very good coaches.

Phenomenal lifting gym, great accommodations for all lifts. Equipment is more well kept than most gyms and Marcos was extremely accommodating to let me in while I was in town. I highly recommend BVB to anyone in the Cstat area !

I’ve been coming here since late 2020, and I’ll say this gym has seen a lot of traffic since I first joined. It is the best
choice offered in College Station for those looking to train with kilo plates or competition specific equipment for powerlifting. It also offers plenty of room for anyone looking to do weightlifting, with a very knowledgeable group who are welcoming and willing to teach anyone who walks through the door. There is a turf area near the dumbbells and accessory machines, community foam rollers/belts/equipment, bands of varying sizes, chains, and I honestly can’t be prouder of the improvements made in the past 4 years while being a member! Thank you guys for being my primary gym, where I first benched one plate, to now being able to compete worldwide!!

Member for little under a year, heres my pros and cons list (from a powerlifters pov)

PROS:
Plenty of power bars in relatively ok shap
Specialty bars including ssb, football, spider, trap, squar and deadlift bars.
Kilo plates (only in in cstat I’ve found with them)
Good amount of parking
3 combo racks
3 power racks
3 half power racks
Decent customer service
Good amount of dumbbells in good shape
Good sized turf/warmup area
Plenty of attachments for cabletree

CONS:
-Remarkably unfriendly atmosphere especially from student lifters on the team
-On certain days the local powerlifting team will invade the combo racks and have them taken for 4+ hours.
-not enough kilo plates to support more then 4 lifters at one time
-besides combo racks no decent place to bench
-some bars are routinely caked in chalk/ clearly havent been cleaned in months
-members routinely not re-racking their kilo plates instead opting to leave on the floor
-have been blatantly ignored asking for a spot or liftoff
-gym entering system sucks, make you use a qr code scanner that sometimes makes it impossible to enter
-day pass is very highly priced for a very small space
-dissapointing variety of machines, only have leg press, pendulum squat, row machine and cable tree. (Cable tree is pretty low, certain movements cant be done if over 6 foot)
-no shower

Overall, maybe still the best gym for powerlifters in cstat but thats not saying much

This is a great lifting gym. Bars are in excellent condition, friendly people, convenient location, not too busy, plenty of equipment. Definitely the right place for lifters! I got a weeklong membership while I was in town for $55.

Had the pleasure of training at this gym for a few years now and have loved every one of them! If you’re a serious lifter who wants to push your game this is the spot for you. You will not be the strongest person at this gym and that will force you to get better! All the members are super friendly and want to help you meet your goals any way they can. Fantastic staff and equipment for the bodybuilder, weightlifter, powerlifter, and strongman alike. Can’t go wrong!

I was a member here for two separate ~15 month stints. First beginning in July 2017 (under the previous ownership) and the other beginning in June of 2020.

The good:

1) Equipment selection and 24 hour access. My life has some odd scheduling on occasion and being able to get into the gym whenever is awesome. Unless you come at peak hours you'll never have to wait for any equipment (even at peak hours it's usually not too bad). Definitely a great powerlifting, weightlifting, or strongman gym and has everything you need to train any of those effectively.

2) The owners are all phenomenal people and are very friendly. They make an effort to get to know people who come regularly.

3) The price point is excellent. Comparable gyms in other parts of the country can run 2-3x what BVB charges. Coaching is set up outside of your gym membership (if it's desired) which keeps your cost down and allows you to use whichever online coaching platforms you like (if you so choose)

The bad:

1) The access system is much worse under the new ownership. You need to download a horrible app and scan a QR code. The scanner regularly doesn't work and you have to call to get let into the gym. The previous ownership had a different access system that used a keyfob. I never once had issues with that, nor did I hear of issues coming up with it for others. I don't know why they changed systems

2) The shower. There is a fully plumbed, functional shower in the building that was accessible under the previous ownership. It has been closed for the duration of the new ownership, and they do not plan to reopen it until they move to a new location. For those who try to sneak in a workout before going to work, this is incredibly frustrating and unnecessary. I offered to organize a cleaning schedule for the shower and install a keypad lock at my own expense and was rebuffed by the ownership for reasons that I still do not understand. The only reasons I was given were hot water heater issues (a cold shower at the gym is better than no shower or having to drive home) and not wanting to incur the added expense of cleaning the shower.

3) They're cheap. Beyond the unwillingness to deal with the shower (which I think consider to be a basic feature of a gym), there are drinks and snacks for sale at the entrance. Previous ownership sold the drinks at the going market rate you'd pay at HEB. Current ownership has a markup that's just kind of annoying. They've also tried numerous times to implement fitness classes and things of that ilk. That's not bad in and of itself, but I think most of the membership joined this gym to get away from things like that. The weightlifting platforms are also quite beat up and constructed in a ludicrously cheap way. Many of the ones closest to the wall have such deep divots that bars won't remain stationary on the platform and roll into them.

I'd certainly recommend this gym to most people. If you're into weightlifting, powerlifting, or strongman it's basically the only option in town, especially after COVID killed a few other local businesses. Obviously my issues with the shower and such won't be shared by all. Hope this helps someone!

I love the power lifting/ Olympic lifting set up. Wish I had this place when I was actively powerlifting. Besides the crowd after work (same anywhere) the designated bench press is always being used as squat stands and there's no designated incline. If you're a powerlifter/strength athlete this place is best place around to train.

One of the best gyms in TEXAS, and a model for what gyms can be without ample space.
I have trained at gyms allover the world, and this gym is set up perfectly. No wasted space, enough equipment for any type of exercises, and extremely efficient.
Not to mention, everyone that trains here seems to be pursuing a goal, which will motivate you to get after yours.
Oh and even better, 24 hour access, something that is not common either.

Brazos Valley Barbell is great for its incredible range of equipment ranging from full Rogue rigs with most attachemnts, every specialty bar imaginable (the bamboo earthquake bar with banded weights is fun), tons of dumbells, yokes and farmers' carry bars, and all Olympic lifters Eleiko needs. I don't know how they offer memberships at such an affordable rate. David and his team know their stuff and knew how to create a great gym.

By far the best gym in the BCS area, or in all of Texas for that matter. If you're serious about powerlifting, weightlifting, bodybuilding, or anything in between you need to be a member here. State of the art training equipment and an atmosphere to match. The members are great, I've made a few great friends here, and the owner, David, is a stand up guy who is also one of the top powerlifting coaches/competitors in the world. Wouldn't train anywhere else.

I've been weightlifting for a few years, and BVB is one of the nicest gyms I've had the pleasure of joining. I've been at BVB for about a year and wouldn't go anywhere else in BCS. The equipment is top notch, the environment is great, and I feel like it's always improving. I love having kilo plates and always enough womens' bars. They recently expanded the number of platforms to accommodate the growing demand for weightlifitng space.

I like the general vibe, as well. Everyone is friendly and it's a supportive atmosphere. I think the music has the highest density of Emniem songs I've ever heard in my life, but that's the only thing I could really gripe about.

This facility is amazing, from a scale of 1-10 of how great this place is, it isn't even on the scale so the scale has no purpose because if you're the best a scale isn't needed to show it. With nearly 20 years of fitness industry experience (lecturer at A&M, ran 14 facilities in Iraq, owned bootcamps/gym in multiple states, online coaching and member sites, etc.), I have to say...

I am exceptionally impressed with Brazos Valley Barbell. Unbeatable equipment selection (out of *any* gym I have ever seen). Always clean. Serious group of supportive, knowledgeable members who are there to work and get results.

They don't even make you sign a contract. I can unequivocally recommend it (and my wife completely agrees!)

I got a 3 day pass at this gym as my collegiate recreation center was closed for a few days. Brazos Valley Barbell has a great atmosphere. The equipment is suited more towards Olympic lifts such as bench, deadlift and squat. There is also a full dumbbell rack, cables, leg press, lateral row machine, and other equipment. The staff is very friendly and there is a sense of community in the gym. If I didn't pay my schools rec. fee I would get a membership here. I highly recommend Brazos Valley Barbell.

I was a drop-in for a week at BVB and had an awesome experience. This place is very well equipped with practically everything. I dropped in for olympic weightlifting and also do accessory work requiring free weights, a pull-up rig, boxes for jumping, airdynes, rowers, and plenty of space!-- among other things! It reminds me of metroflex in fort worth --even though I've never been--but the equipment and space all look brand new. I highly recommend for raw strength building and for easy drop-ins! I wish there were more places like it in other cities!
