I highly recommend Melvin C. for personal training. He's fantastic, and he knows what he's doing! I played sports for 24 years, but then had several kids and stopped. I trained with Melvin after 10 years of sitting (driving and teaching at a desk), living a sedentary lifestyle, and struggling with several joint limitations, back pain, and prior sports injuries. I honestly wasn't sure if I could get back in shape, but I knew IF it was possible, I'd need a trainer to design a very specific plan for me. I had asked for that with prior trainers at different gyms and was never able to get it. No one wanted to take the time to develop a plan for me to follow inside and outside the gym. But Melvin took the challenge and exceeded my expectations! He took time to listen to my situation, test my injuries and abilities without hurting them, find weaknesses, develop a plan to target those weaknesses in a secondary fashion (until they were strong enough to be targeted directly), and add in total body fitness alongside it. He has gone above and beyond any personal trainer I've ever used before.
Honestly, I've never seen half the stuff he has shown me, and I've done a lot over the years! He has worked with an Olympic trainer the last three years to develop his own skills, has a martial arts background that adds to his understanding of motion and body movement, has a sports background so that his sports conditioning program is excellent (my teens used him as well to improve their game), and he has taught me some new, highly effective warm ups and post-exercise stretches.
He's great with teaching proper form so that the right muscles are being targeted in each activity, and lets you know if you're accidentally slipping out of form and working some other area by accident. And the results are undeniable. After only 4-5 weeks of working with him, I was shocked at how my mobility, range of motion, strength, and overall ability to do exercise had improved. I highly recommend Melvin to anyone who needs specialized training of any sort. He's excellent!!

Very affordable, family-owned, no-hassle place to workout if you aren’t an early morning person (they don’t open until 9am). Staff is friendly, and as they coach a lot of young people in sport-specific areas of facility, it’s got a family oriented vibe. Plenty of weight training equipment and space. If you don’t need loud music blasting and glitzy decor, this is a great place to get your pump on or get your kids ready for their sport.

Wish I knew the truth about this place before we wasted a year of our time & money. My daughter played softball for the 14U team and towards the end you could tell the owner only cared about $$$. To play on the team you have to sign a contract so if it doesn’t work out and you decide to leave you are still liable for the monthly payments. Randy, the owner, only speaks to the players directly and never addresses any issues about the players to their parents. If any parents had any concerns we could never reach the owner, no matter if there was an email, call or text. He was never available to speak on any these issues. He tells everyone’s business to everyone else, so be careful what you divulge. Very weird and manipulative. They claim to have the best training in sports but our record was pretty horrible fall/spring 2022-2023 (W24/ L69) and nothing ever changed. The coaches were very sweet but weren’t able to coach how they wanted and it showed, all 3 ended up leaving due to the same issues and not having a control over team decisions. The owner plays favorites to whichever parents spend the most moneys. After only being on another team for 2 weeks now, I’ve seen such a huge improvement on communication and training! I can see now that breakaway is not in it for the long haul. Sad part is you only see it once you get on Randy’s bad side. Sadly the only thing my daughter did was not go to ONE tournament due to the cost which was advised to Randy months in advance but I guess that didn’t matter. We were told by other parents that my daughter wasn’t invited back to the next season but never told directly from the coach.

Small Texas coast family owned surf shop. Took my son and daughter down over the last couple of weeks and rented surf boards. Really nice people with super fair prices.

I have nothing but good things to say about Randy and Kristen Lusby. They are a shining example of what a coach should be and how a coach should act. I first meet them a few month ago when my daughter was recommended to try out for their team by a college coach. Not knowing anything about them we took a chance and went to meet them and the experience was great. I wish I would have had my daughter with them from the time she first took an interest in softball at the age of 4. My daughter just made 17 and is playing on the BreakAway Speed 18U team and loving it. We've been around the softball arena for a while and have played for several different teams over the years. However, none have been this well ran, with great coaches who bring years of experience. This is a top notch organization.

I worked with my team here weekly and it was pretty nice. The AC as always working and the facilities were kept clean. The live machine wasn't working a lot unfortunately but other than that, no complaints.

Unless you're training in their baseball program, don't expect any new equipment, especially if you're doing any (Olympic) weightlifting. Also if you prepay, you better hope your job doesn't change your schedule and/or location because they won't refund you for the proper amount that you didn't use. I notified them before the 6 month mark (I prepaid for a year after being a member for a few years) and the owner (Randy) said he would do a 3 month pay back.

Had a real bad experience at Break Away Sports with the owner Randy this afternoon. Very disappointed in his rudeness and lack of appreciation for his customers.
We took two eight year olds for batting practice for a thirty minute session. After the b.p. we played catch off to the side for 30-45 minutes before leaving. We had kept this same routine for the last two years with the boys. When we went to check out and pay we were informed by the young lady at the counter that we were being charged not just for the b.p. but also for playing catch. She told us that she would cut us a break and just charge us for an hour in the cage which would be cheaper. When we complained that we had been coming there for two years and never been charged for playing catch, she said we could talk to Randy.
When Randy came out to talk to us, we explained the situation to him. We expected him to treat us respectfully as he knows us from seeing us in there and knows that we were long time customers. He has seen us playing catch off to the side for years and has never one time mentioned that we would have to pay for playing catch. Instead of treating his customers right, he shockingly came at us very aggressively and his attitude wreaked of desperation. He told us that he expected us to pay for playing catch in his facility and that we were lucky he was not charging us for every time that we played catch over the past two years! What's funny is he has seen us doing this before and actually told my son to get off the fitness equipment. We were never charged before. Further he escalated the situation by calling one of the adults in our group a "jerk." Maybe it was because there was no one in there but one girl training. Too bad I won't be returning and I'll be sure to mention this to all my West U Little League coaches.
