I visited this boxing gym after a long break from the sport. About 10 years ago, I was an Olympic national representative in boxing for my country (not the U.S.). I chose not to disclose that background, as I wanted to stay humble and remain open to learning different styles. Naturally, I came in with a solid foundation and was excited to get back into training.
Unfortunately, I found the coach at this gym quite difficult to work with. His ego was noticeably strong, and he seemed dismissive of any approach that didn’t align with his own views. For example, when I used a relaxed, rhythmic motion—lightly swaying forward and backward to stay loose (a basic yet essential technique used by everyone from beginners to top-level boxers)—he criticized it, claiming it came from a “video game” and that it would drain my stamina. That reasoning was flawed. By that logic, why throw jabs or step at all? Wouldn’t those also drain stamina? His argument lacked grounding in real boxing principles and came across as either a result of inexperience or a rigid mindset.
This led me to question whether he had meaningful experience in the sport. He insisted that the peek-a-boo guard was the only correct way to defend, completely dismissing other legitimate styles. His thinking was rigid, and he spoke as if his opinion were absolute—which can be frustrating, especially for someone with a professional background.
To be fair, strong egos are not uncommon in combat sports. But in this case, the coach’s attitude felt excessive and unproductive. He didn’t seem open to discussion, feedback, or growth—all of which are essential qualities in a good trainer. For context, he wasn’t the owner—just a shorter trainer working at the gym.

My 16 year old son really enjoys going to boxing practice. Coach Chapa is fair and sees the potential in every person he trains. I like to see my son dedicated and keeps him busy. Thank you Coach Chapa.

I can’t say enough great things about Chapa’s Boxing Gym and the positive impact it’s had on my two daughters. From day one, the coaches have been incredibly welcoming, professional, and dedicated to helping them improve both their skills and confidence. The training environment is disciplined yet supportive, making it the perfect place for young athletes to thrive.
If you’re looking for a place where your children can learn boxing in a safe, structured, and fun environment, I highly recommend Chapa’s Boxing Gym. It’s been an amazing experience for our family, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes them.

I've been to this Gym for Boxing lessons as a First Timer and I was very pleased with My Trainers, Adrian Ramos, Pete Chapa and Quincy Taylor, whom is Former WBC Middleweight Champion of the World. They were very thorough, from the stance to hand positioning and how to properly throw my punches. They Train Jaycob "RagingBull" Ramos for his Professional fights. The place is very nice. They have weights, treadmills, bicycles, punching bags and a nice size Boxing Ring. I would try them out if your looking for a great exercise regimen, self defense or to fight professionally. Everyone is very nice a respectful.
Hope you all give them a try.🥊🥊😀
