I wanted to give a shout out to Checkpoint Crossfit. I decided to return to crossfit as an older woman. I was very nervous, but Darrell worked with me to modify some of the more challenging exercises. He is a great encourager and the classes are different everyday. That keeps things new and interesting and I was surprised at some of the things I could do. I highly recommend checking them out!

Such an unwelcoming and disappointing experience. I visited to enquire about their training classes, and instead of being greeted professionally, I was rudely told that I was interrupting. When I mentioned I was there for an enquiry, the guy became visibly irritated and continued to act annoyed. It was shocking and disheartening to be treated this way, especially from a place with so many 5-star reviews. Needless to say, I left immediately. Definitely not the type of service I expected, and I won't be returning.

My wife tried CrossFit a long time ago and really enjoyed it bc of the results but had to quit bc of work, life, and kid demands. So due to us both being out of shape and tired of feeling tired or not feeling good, she decided to sign us up to do trials at 3 diff CrossFit gyms near our house. After briefly discussing our goals with Darrell at Checkpoint and how they run their classes at Checkpoint and completing their trial class, we knew we wanted to give this place a try vs the other 2 gyms. Now being there over 5 months and both of us down to a weight we haven't seen since college or high school and finally sore from working out instead of doing nothing, we totally know we selected the right gym! I'll be completely honest, I never thought I'd ever want to do CrossFit as I was just going to do the trial to get my wife going, then go back to my way at Lifetime:) But there's something about how well the classes are run in full control with Darrell and Suzi, how serious they are to ensure everyone is working out with correct techniques to reduce injuries, how inviting EVERYONE is in the classes, how creative the WODs are since each day is never a repeat, it's now just something we can't see quitting with the results we continue to see! We have a lot of fun, each encourages the other to keep working hard and not give up, and experience the best full-body workout every class! All we can say is no matter what age or whatever negative misrepresentations you've heard about CrossFit, go try a trial at any CrossFit gym and if you find it interesting, we HIGHLY recommend joining Checkpoint! Whatever injuries or handicaps or excuses you have(that we also have or had), Checkpoint will always provide alternatives so you have a safe workout every time, as the challenge intensity and commitment will always be up to you!

Checkpoint CrossFit is an awesome place to challenge yourself and get in the best shape of your life. This is not one of those intimidating or pretentious gyms. The members are very helpful and welcoming. Coach Darrell is amazing! He’s always there to offer instruction and encouragement depending on which one is appropriate at that time…lol. My husband and I have been members since 2017 and there’s no end in sight!

Checkpoint CrossFit changed my life. It has been 5 months and I'm addicted! I hated workout in any form. I did it but hated it. Now I'm going every morning pretty excited. All levels are welcome. People are wonderful and we found a new family there. We finally find a great activity with my husband and are absolutely loving it. My husband was pretty sedentary and is now more committed than I. First time in my life that I really enjoy to workout. 💕

I've been coming to Checkpoint for about 5 years after jumping for gym to gym for the previous 3 years. Darrell and the Checkpoint coaches are phenomenal and their programming is top notch! The workouts are scaled for both the experienced firebreather as well as for the CrossFit newbie! Do yourself a favor and check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Checkpoint is legit. When I started I had been running a lot, but couldn’t do a proper push-up or sit-up. Checkpoint has changed my body and my strength. The families in the gym are stand-up people. Coaches don’t come better than Darrell & Suzi. And they have a nutrition program to help you get your eating on track! Highly recommend.

This is my 6th year working out at Checkpoint CrossFit and I always had great experiences here. The facilities are well maintained, the bathrooms are spotlessly clean, the fellow members are friendly and welcoming, the workouts are challenging yet well planned, and above all, the coaches are always supportive and encouraging. If you're looking for an excellent workout and an even better community, Checkpoint Crossfit is absolutely the place to go. I cannot say enough good things about this gym. Darrell and Suzi, the owners, have worked tirelessly to create and maintain a culture of teamwork, inclusivity, and hard work. If you are looking for a gym to not only better yourself physically, but mentally as well, you have come to the right place. I had the privilege of growing up at this gym during my high school years and have searched (unsuccessfully) for something like Checkpoint ever since leaving the DFW area. The people at this gym will always have a special place in my heart, and the intense, gritty, style of workout has built me into the athlete I am today! I cannot recommend more highly that you give Checkpoint Crossfit a try. You will not regret it!

I have been going to Checkpoint CrossFit gym for 3 years and it is the best decision I have made for my health. The owners, Darrell and Suzi, have a genuine interest in you and your health. They take the time to show you the movement, watch you, and help you learn it (if you’ve never lifted). They watch for your safety and they want everyone to succeed and be healthier, with grace, not pressure. Darrell and Suzi have created a family. All the members have become friends (if that is something you want) and we celebrate together and encourage each other through tough times. Several members come as a family; ranging from teenagers to people in their 70’s (I was 56 when I started). I highly recommend Checkpoint CrossFit. Come try a class. Give yourself a few weeks and you will love it too!
My journey - for those interested
A friend of mine kept asking me to go (for 2 years) to CrossFit. I felt intimidated and said I can’t do that; to which she said, oh yes you can. I was in rut with my workouts because I was the person that would work out for 6 months and then not for 6 months, yo-yo I guess; so, I finally made the decision to try Checkpoint with my friend. I have been working out at least 5 days a week for the last three years. Even when I am out of town, I text Darrell or Suzi and they give me a workout. I do not want to miss. I love to workout and I have taken a better interest in healthy eating. Not only have I lost weight, am stronger, and have muscle definition; the things you cannot see are lower cholesterol, lower blood sugar, lower blood pressure, improved mental clarity, and off several medications. I am hooked!

Love this gym! Great coaches and wonderful group of fellow athletes. The hours are set at good times to fit in a workout. I have gotten so much stronger and I feel so healthy and fit. Very clean facility and very good atmosphere to stay positive and motivated. Every workout can be modified and still be challenging and doable. I like that we honor the military with 10 push ups during warmup. If you are use to boot camp style workouts and want to enjoy every workout, come join this gym!

Coming up on our one year Anniversary with Checkpoint CrossFit and still going strong. The flexibility of the daily schedule allows each of us to get our reps in each week. The variety of exercises in a given week has increased our strength and agility but also keeps things interesting. Most importantly though, we love the community of Checkpoint. The members, owners and coaching are something you won’t find at the Y and Lifetime. My only regret… not joining the gym years ago!!

It took my husband months to talk me into joining him at this gym. I was very hesitant because I thought CrossFit was way too hard and something I could never do. Excellent Coaches, a welcoming environment and a supportive membership community. Like most I joined not knowing quite what to expect and that is 100% ok. While I immediately discovered I was not as fit as I thought I was, I was welcomed with open arms, encouraged to grow and improve as part of a close-knit community. Over the last 6 years I have grown as an athlete and as a person - a direct result of the Checkpoint CrossFit environment. I've since participated in the CrossFit Open repeatedly, participated in running endurance races, 5k's and a half marathon, none of which would have been possible without the support of Checkpoint CrossFit. I've been to several other CrossFit locations around the US and I cannot say enough positive about Checkpoint. The Coaches and the community of members have built a strong network of support and motivation. Every workout can be adapted to any members individual needs, providing everyone an opportunity to improve. The Coaches truly want you to succeed and live a healthier, happy life - as shown by providing tailored coaching to each athlete during workouts. Checkpoint CrossFit has become my therapy, a way to drop the stress of the day, turn off the brain while working to improve my health for myself as well as for my family. Well worth the commitment.

This a long review, but I can't say enough good things about this place. This is a summary of what I've gone through so far with this gym:
1. Culture - The family-type atmosphere here is mellow and everyone roots for one another. There is no weight-shaming in this gym, there is only sustain good form, grow your strength and endurance, and support each other. Age range here is ~15 to ~70 years old, so there is no excuse not to give this gym a shot.
2. Warm up - Every day, a warm up consists of a #RememberTheFallen soldier. We honor who they were, where they were from, and what they did to serve our country.
3. WOD (workout of day) - strength training + cardio = a challenge for you to push yourself. Darrel provides a challenging WOD everyday and gives you the opportunity to set the effort bar where you want it. If someone’s form is not correct, he will come up to you mid workout and provide some quiet guidance where he deems necessary. As they say on their website, “Workouts can be adapted to anyone, any fitness level, and any physical condition.”
4. Nutrition - Suzi is the nutrition and accountability coach. She provides a macro-nutrient approach to eating that anyone can adapt their eating habits to, since it is a non-restrictive nutrition program. Eat what you want, when you want, and track it. I’ll admit, for the first two weeks, my wife and I had a rough time figuring out how to make meals that fit our daily numbers so we could reach our long term goals, but once we got the hang of it, we haven’t looked back. Sometimes, we’ll eat the same meal, but most meals, we choose to eat differently since our eating habits are different. As soon as we chose to discipline ourselves to become familiar and trust the process of cooking and eating foods aligned with the macro-nutrient approach, inches began melting off our waists and muscle began to grow.
5. My wife and I workout at Checkpoint CrossFit at least 4-6 days per week because we have decided to invest in the health of our minds and bodies. Obviously, we want six pack abs and toned beach bodies, but we also want to set a healthy example for our children to look up to. Of course, we're not perfect. We have missed workouts occasionally and had some cheat meals, but overall, this gym provides 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. If you need assistance, don't hesitate to ask Darrel or Suzi for guidance along your fitness journey.
