About the Club

At the Coppell Family YMCA, located in Coppell, Texas, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side by side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. When you join the Y you’re committing to more than simply becoming healthier. You are supporting the values and programs that strengthen your community. Here, children learn what they can achieve, families spend quality time together, and we all build relationships that deepen our sense of belonging. Not sure you can afford Y membership? My student's instructor is the best person in giving great guidelines to all the swimmers. We need more such coaches! Also the monthly fee has increased extra $25. This was an unexpected change, it was quite affordable with $100 earlier and may attract more people to join if the management is able to reinstate the earlier price.

Disappointed and Frustrated with Recent Changes

I joined the YMCA specifically for a weekly dance class that was held in a proper exercise room. Unfortunately, that room has now been converted into manager offices, and the class has been moved to the gymnasiumβ€”where half the court is still used for basketball during our session. It’s noisy, distracting, and simply not the environment we signed up for.
To make matters worse, several popular classes have been cancelled or relocated, and the locker rooms are consistently smelly and moldy, which raises serious concerns about cleanliness and maintenance.
Many of us are considering canceling our memberships. We've voiced our concerns, but the management seems indifferent. It’s incredibly disappointing to see a community-focused organization disregard the needs of its members like this.
I hope the YMCA reconsiders these decisions and starts prioritizing member experience again.

I typically consider the YMCA a safe and consistent place to reset, especially during difficult seasons. But today’s experience at this location, which was my first time visiting this branch, was disappointing and unprofessional.
When I stopped in to use the facility, I clearly stated that I have a nationwide membership. That information was either ignored or dismissed. One staff member assisting another individual asked me a follow-up question, and when I repeated that I was nationwide, he then asked me my nameβ€”not to assist, but in a tone that implied I was being dishonest or trying to sneak in.

Staff, including those assisting members with special needs, should be trained on how to treat all guests with dignity, clarity, and kindness. There’s a way to verify information without suspicion or condescension.

Thank goodness I didn’t have to stay, since the women’s locker room was closed for cleaning in the middle of the day (because of course it was πŸ™ƒ).

The tone, the energy, and the interaction fell short of what the YMCA claims to stand for.

It's exciting to see so many new faces enjoying and using the local YMCA in Coppell! When the parking lot is almost full, it really makes me smile, knowing how many people in the community the Y is serving.

I only got one problem with this place. Sometimes the swim team does not stay within their schedule and extends their
practice. And somehow they are β€œprioritized” over normal people like us?

So we just drive here, not allowed to swim, and then drive back?

My girls usually go for swimming lesson but the girls changing room (under 15) are horribly smelly and toilets are dirty. The periodically cleaning of girls changing room are not done. Kids were about to vomit in that changing room due to the bad smell. And in this situation the staff also not willing to use the women changing room to the kids even with adults supervision.

I have been a member for many years, my children grew up coming here. The janitor Carlos keeps the facility sparkling clean besides being courteous. Front desk staff are very helpful and the gym has all the equipment needed and more. Plenty of programs and classes for all ages. Very safe and family oriented as any YMCA should be!

Resubscribing today, called yesterday. The gentleman I talked to said I could do it over the phone. I wanted it to start today so he said just call in tomorrow. Then when I called in today Josey (young lady) or someone at front desk said I can’t do it over the phone and I had to come in. When I came in an older lady said the staff were told different things. So, I asked what is the actual policy? They said they can do it over the phone and I asked why didn’t they call me and let me know? They said they didn’t have caller id. Called the main line and my number was shown. I also asked for a supervisor both front ladies said supervisor was not available. Later a lady named Kimberly who I think was the manager stopped by. Overall a bad experience. Training is bad, communication is bad, and the ability to not call a supervisor is also bad.

Shreya is an amazing teacher. At 37, I’ve struggled with learning to swim my entire adult life. I’ve taken several swim classes in the past, but always left feeling like I didn’t reach my goals. When I signed up for lessons at the YMCA, I wasn’t expecting much, but Shreya has completely exceeded my expectations. She has a remarkable ability to push me out of my comfort zone while still making me feel safe enough to take risks. I really appreciate how she gives me clear, constructive feedback on what I need to work on. I’ve made so much progress that I’ve already signed up for another month of lessons. It feels incredibly freeing to finally overcome something that once seemed so daunting.

to whomΒ this email concerns.
I am writing this email to inform you on the opening time today on 2/3/2025 at the copell YMCA. I chose the copell YMCA as it is the closest YMCA to me but I do go before working leaving me only to an hour workout when I arrive.
I and several other arrived at 5 am waiting outside for someone to open the door so that we could work out. No one arrived and we all stood out there until 6 o clock. One woman even came from out of town and it was her first time and she was in disbelief with how long we were standing outside. I am highly disappointed in your staff's performance this morning. I hope you all can do better in the future.
Thanks!

Private swim lessons are not worth it here. College kids are teaching and within 4 weeks there has been one teacher change and 2 reschedules. That’s not what is expected out of a private lesson for what it costs. Even group lessons in other places are taken more seriously.

My family and I love our Coppell YMCA! We've had the best experience with the staff there and especially the Child Watch staff. I couldn't have asked for a better group of women that take care of my kids so well and pour into them with care and God's love. This allows me to have time to work out and feel more in shape. I love walking in and having people I know say HI and I feel welcomed. I've been so happy with the equipment, classes and all of the family friendly events that have come up over the years we've been members. THANK YOU for Parent's Nights Outs and community events and discounted swim lessons and so much more.

Didn’t get a chance to join… came in to ask about membership and wanted to see the facility.. the lady at the desk states she needs me to fill out a guest form.. perfectly fine.. but my name, phone number and email should be enough for just looking around.. the lady says I need to fill out- name, address, phone number, email, birthdate, emergency contact name and phone number.. that is invasion of privacy.. just to see the facility.. before hopefully joining… You’re going to loose a lot of customers.

Bad consumer service… πŸ‘ŽπŸ½ πŸ‘ŽπŸ½

07/14/24 Update- Thank you for your response, I do understand and appreciate that, safety is important. But you don’t need my address, an emergency contact and their contact information to ensure that. Name , phone number and email address should suffice.

Thank you.

Love the swim classes my son takes here--great staff who are great with kids. Hate that the only way into the pool is for me to enter the boys' locker room where boys 15 and younger would then have a grown woman in their space, or through the womens' where naked women would have a strange male child in their space. We don't need to utilize the locker rooms, so why is the only way to enter the pool through rooms of people in vulnerable positions? That's gross and unnecessary.

My son had a wonderful experience with the Swim Team at Coppell Family YMCA! The coaches were truly dedicated and supportive, helping each swimmer improve their technique and build confidence in the water. The team atmosphere was inclusive and motivating, fostering a strong sense of community and teamwork. Additionally, the facilities were well-maintained, providing a great environment for training and competitions. Overall, it was an enriching experience that combined fitness, fun, and friendship.

My two stars is because I can only consider the kindness of the swimming instructors. Everything else is a real disaster. Coordination is very poor. For swimming lessons I prefer to pay a little more to an independent instructor who really dedicates the necessary time to my son. This staff grabbed many apprentices at the same time and only give them 30 minutes, rarely started at the stipulated time, always late, and if they start later, they still finish at the stipulated time to finish (less than 30 minutes).. I do not recommend it if you really want your child to learn to swim correctly and you do not want to waste your time and money.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Went for a birthday party in the aquatic center this afternoon and it was the worst experience. There was light rain just as the party was supposed to start with slight thunder so they wouldn't let the kids swim. 30 minutes go by and they say there was lightening (there wasn't) and said we had to wait another 30 minutes. That time passes and suddenly they say we have to restart the timer and the kids still can't swim. The host asked for a refund for the party and the teens running the show basically told her since the party had "started" there was nothing they could do. It was almost like it was a game to her. We adked about moving to the indoor pool since no one was there, we were told it was closed, asked about just a party room, told no. They literally made zero atempts to work with the host. We all left without EVER getting into the pool that was rented. Worst experience I've ever had with a YMCA.

My kid has taken swim classes years ago.
Very hygienic place and good pool.

I took away one star because there is no family restroom and if a father needs to take his daughter or vice versa the kid has to be left alone in the restroom. The restroom opens to the pool as well as outside so if it's a special kid they could risk getting out alone.

I went here for swim classes twice a week for 1 month. Although I liked the instructors, 3 out of the 8 classes were cancelled with very little notification, if any. They also did not adhere to the schedule posted at time of payment. Once I sent an email to the director, she replied stating that the instructors should have made me aware of the changes. I wish they would have taken a more professional approach such as sending an email. I was not aware of the changes and drove over 30 minutes twice only to be told classes were cancelled.

Seems to be management looks this place more as a business center than a work out area or Gym. Half of the second floor has been repurposed for probably conference or something else. So all equipments are squeezed in the first floor and number of equipments are limited. In fact few of the equipments are only one, and sometimes it happens that one member is using that for half an hours. So, you can’t even use that for that day. The swimming pool is for name sake. Most of the time it is used for Kids training/learning sessions ( only one of two lanes will be kept open for members). For this kind of facility it does not make sense to pay $70 per month.

Other members there were very rude. We were there w/ our kids and wanted to play basketball and asked other members that were already playing if we could take a turn or join in and they said no. We waited about an hour to see if we could get a turn and they never let us play. And the person at the front desk only told us we would just have to wait our turn.

This is my second visit at this location. My daughter plays volleyball. The game was supposed to start at 2:00pm but a basketball game was active on half of the court. Turnover was not made a priority. Parents had to move risors and request basketball goals be raised. The referee and score keeper did not know rules for play and did not have access to the rules. It was a big mess.

I have been a member of this location for two plus years with my son being on the swim team. We are having a great experience here. The staff is always pleasant and eager to help. Plenty of times the staff has gone out of the way to locate his glasses that he forgot at the poolside. The facility is clean and there are plenty of workout classes to choose from. When they reopened after Covid, it was impressive how they followed the safety protocols. It is a blessing to have such a safe and convenient environment nearby.

People are not wearing their face mask. I know it's difficult to workout but we can't endanger others for our comfort.
