I will be reviewing this business as an anonymous account because I would rather stay anonymous than reveal my real identity -
Core progression has been operating its business for nearly 5 years now. Ive been a member since Renee had been running the show and left shortly after the owner (Luis G.) took over the scene. In short, during Renees time here as the GM the place was actually an amazing personal training gym/service. The old GM actually took care of his clients and cherry picked the top applicants with experience to come work for the gym. That all fell apart when Renee left and Luis took over the place. My suspicion is that Luis wanted to involve himself more into the business and get in the way of Renee which prompted him to leave. On top of that many of the old trainers left as well due to the dissatisfaction of the owner running the place. The place was then becoming overwhelmed with inexperienced trainers with the exception of Raquel, Gabe and David. But only two of them left as we’ll probably due to how poorly ran the place was.

To save everyone the time and second hand embarrassment from the unprofessionalism both the owner and the current coaches (except Raquel) avoid this gym at all costs. Theres a reason why trainers are leaving. At least the good ones.

Review Edit: I apologize for the “inaccuracies.” I don’t exactly know the spelling of your old GM - maybe was it Renay? Never mind that, moving forward: just because some of the trainers have “credentials” doesn’t mean much nowadays with the support of AI to help many “pass” their examinations. I value real world experience over some piece of paper. I personally believe that trainers who prescribe weighted box jumps to beginners should think about the consequences of the exercise selection. I wont name names but when one of your trainers made me perform weighted box jobs I almost injured my knees… I tried to also explain to said trainer to modify the exercises and stick to my goals which he “agreed” on doing but ended up still continuing on with questionable exercises. When I asked him if he was tracking my exercises because I noticed he would make me do the same muscle group as the previous session he said he was… when I asked if he could show me he ended up making an excuse how he left it at home, not sure what that means.

Walked in to become a 1st time client & didn’t feel welcomed at all. Stood there at the front while 2 trainers looked at me but didn’t acknowledge me or welcome me in. No one greeted me or said, “I’ll be right there with you”…stood there for about 20 min before I left. I even made movement by walking around the front area reading flyers on the walls making it OBVIOUS I was new & interested. It turned me off, so I walked away. It’s unfortunate bc I would have became a dedicated long term client.

The trainer Josiah was great! Everything I told him I needed to work on was incorporated in our workouts. I was having ankle issues which was causing issues with my knees. He had me do some movements to strengthen the muscles connecting to my ankle and my ankle mobility has improved so much. Overall I am much stronger and more knowledgable about what movements work best for me.

Core Progression is a unique training experience. I have worked with personal trainers for over 15 years and nothing compares to the laser focus on you as a person, adapting to your needs and goals on a daily basis. At age 77, I am not the usual gym client. Most people in my age just want to maintain fitness, not losing more strength and mobility. But I want to gain function, strength and balance. And this gym’s approach is making that happen. It is not a short term effort but lifelong and I am committed to be the best I can be with the help of this team.

Went in to check this place out. Franchisee Renay didn't want to show me around, would only give pricing. Gave a story about how he once went into a gym, wasn't able to look around and it made him want to join more. Eventually did show me around after some pushing and I signed up after talking about my extensive work travel. He made it seem like it wouldn't be a big deal and many current clients travel. Since joining, there's been a lot of turnover with trainers and clients. While on vacation I received a text from my trainer (also the Manager). She'd decided to leave as well. I was told the transition would be smooth. It was anything but. I had to reach out to Renay because my next training day was coming and I didn’t have a trainer assigned, then he asks me to wait until after Thanksgiving and take the week off. Finally met the new trainer and she wanted to start at square one with measurements, let’s chat about goals, etc. This was the exact opposite of what the Manager had told me. During this session I learned the assigned trainer was new to Core Progression and not familiar with InBody Scans as well as other very common training elements. Everybody has to start somewhere but I went from a Managing trainer with years of experience to a novice. Between other health issues and the lack of communication here, I decided it was time to move on. Really thought this would be a better option for all involved rather than wasting everyone’s time and taking up a prime-time slot that wouldn’t be used long term. Kindly reached out to Renay to let him know I wouldn’t be extending and to see if we could work something out with the remaining sessions. He immediately got defensive and responded in an accusatory manner noting my ‘timing has been bad’, it’s ‘hard to be consistent with that much time in between sessions even for (Manager)’ and ‘typically that will take clients 2-3 months to consume’. His response was immature and from far-left field. I can see why he has so much turnover now. Kid has a lot of growing to do.

I've been with Core Progression for about four months now, and the rapid transformation has been incredible. I used to lead a sedentary lifestyle with back and knee pain, but thanks to my trainers—first Cameron and now Josiah—I'm nearing peak fitness. After experiencing a back injury and being sedentary for a few months I knew I needed to get into shape! My knees were becoming a concern and I felt that, should I need a knee replacement, I wasn’t strong enough for rehab. I signed up for 90 days to build strength and stamina and to improve my core and balance. Renay assigned Ben to work with me. That was a year ago!!! My initial assessment was so underwhelming, that there was no place to go but up. Ben has been just what I needed to stick with a consistent program. I’m motivated to achieve results every session and he pushes me to limits I would never have reached on my own. He doesn’t just try to see how much weight I can maneuver, but plans exercises that have improved my mobility and stamina. I know longer feel a knee replacement is in the immediate future and I’ve developed a confidence in a variety of activities. I look forward to continuing to challenge myself with Ben’s guidance and direction! All the trainers at Core and the overall vibe are inspiring. I would (and do) recommend that anyone who’s considering a training program needs to try Core Progression. It’s an amazing organization.

I’ve struggled with my health and weight management all my life. Bipolar 1 has made it difficult to keep routines, and a history of eating disorders made it dangerous. When I realized I was 25 and 275 pounds, I knew I needed to do SOMETHING different. Working out on my own wasn’t working, and dieting (even with a good knowledge of nutrition) wasn’t sustainable for me. I joined Core Progression on a whim, and it is the best decision for my health I have ever made.

In my consultation, Renay talked to me about my history with exercise and my health, discussed my goals, and was very warm and understanding. I felt no judgement when I was vulnerable about my struggles, only compassion. He then took the time to assign me a trainer he felt would be best for me, and since then Hannah has been my number one cheerleader as well as an incredible trainer. She encourages me to push myself, but often recognizes my limits before I do and adjusts our plans accordingly. It is thanks to her that I have seen a significant change in my stamina, strength, and flexibility.
What I really like about our time together is there hasn’t been a focus on losing weight (something that I’m prone to and is very toxic for me), only on improving my strength and endurance, getting healthier by feeling the physiological changes in my body. I notice these things every day in small ways- walking for longer, climbing stairs with ease, feeling restless when I haven’t gotten out and moved. The importance of growing muscle to eventually burn fat and how it is a process that takes time was stressed to me, especially when I got frustrated early on. At the time of writing this I’ve hit about 3 and a half months with Core Progression, and that long period is over and I am finally losing weight. I know that long of a wait can be off putting, but truly this has kept me on track and helped build habits and results that exercising on my own or dieting would. I am likely going to extend my contract when my initial six months is up!

The facility itself is very nice- cozy and familiar, never too crowded. Seeing everyone working with their trainers is so motivating, and you can tell just from looking around the trust between trainer and trainee is strong. Everyone is kind and encouraging, greets you and says goodbye, it’s truly a safe place for anyone.
There’s water and energy drinks as well as protein snacks for sale at very reasonable prices, and a water fountain to fill your own bottle. Two restrooms with showers should you need them, and The Mobility Clinic has an office inside as well, so if you get hurt or need a little extra help you can schedule something right there (though the trainers are also very good about making sure you’re properly stretched and warmed up for your session, and often suggest and run through mobility exercises if you say something).

If you’ve gotten to the end of this, you’re probably truly considering Core Progression, and are doing as much research as you can to find the right place (like I did). You might be nervous (like I was), worried about such a commitment (like I was), and just wanting to do what’s best for your health (like I was). I can say with certainty that everyone here is kind, attentive, supportive, and will support you in making the right choices for you. You won’t feel pressured into a contract, you won’t feel excluded based on weight or experience level. I would choose Core Progression over and over again, and I am so glad I took the chance with them.

BEST SPOT IN NORTH AUSTIN FOR PERSONAL TRAINING. Really became a family vibe after going here for 7 months training with Kelsey and the whole CP team. Renay runs a great business here and you can feel it as soon as you walk in the door. I love the motivational emails I get from Renay which perfectly compliments my journey. While hesitant from past training experiences, in May 2022 I had a new mindset and was ready to try again, so I joined Core Progression with Stephanie as my trainer. From the moment I met her and since I’ve been there, our personal training always felt just that- PERSONAL to me and my needs. She’s listened to my history of past experiences and eating disorders, always made sure I was comfortable with our training/meal plans, and even pushed me to eat MORE than I was normally eating. She’s made sure my sleep and stress levels were prioritized, even before nutrition and workouts, which was unheard of for me. I started private sessions at Core Progression in the summer. When I arrived, I was dealing with daily chronic pain and just in a bad way. I got set up with Thomas who worked me up slowly. He checked in with me during each set, adjusted weights and reps to my comfort while at the same time providing a challenge. Thanks to him, in less than six months I’m pain-free and so much stronger!

Core Progression’s facility is also very clean and well-stocked with basic and advanced equipment. The rest of the staff is very friendly and helpful, and I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking to get started in strength training. 10/10.

I have been training at Core Progression in North Austin since October of 2020 and I have had amazing results. My trainer, Marina has given me so much guidance with healthy eating and exercise habits. She focuses on my individual needs and has created a diet and workout plan that I can stick to. It took me a long time to stop into Core Progression. I drove by every day and then finally, a little over a year ago, motivated by watching my elderly parents struggle as they age, I walked in. It was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. I'm in my mid-50's, a former gym owner and competitive weight lifter, but the years have not been kind. If you're thinking "I've tried the gym before" or "I've worked with a trainer before", you need to forget that because this is different experience. Renay gets more out of me in our 30 minute workouts than I ever imagined I (or anyone!) could, and with the variety of equipment I'm able to perform exercises I'd never even conceive on my own. I feel the positive impact on my life every day, from my cardio endurance to my improved strength to increased mobility. And, yeah, it's nice to be asked "have you been working out?" The entire team of trainers are ego-free, focused on their clients, welcoming and friendly, and the other clients come in all shapes, sizes and ages. If you're worried about "I need to get in shape before I go" or "everyone will be watching me", there's nothing to worry about. We're all working too hard! You will fit in just fine, and you'll leave feeling proud and looking forward to getting back.

I joined Core progression around a month back. My trainer Stephanie has really helped me establish a regular exercise regimen. She helps me push my boundaries and get stronger with each session. When it comes to accountability, I share my meals with her so I can focus on my diet as well. It is an amazing place for personal training, the facilities are super clean, there is a limited number of people, the equipment is great, the trainers are fantastic, and everybody is very welcoming. I was looking to build strength after some health issues and mostly recover from my frozen shoulder, I cannot say enough good things about my trainer, Cameron, and the detail, effort and interest he shows in my training and every session. I have recovered my mobility and range of motion almost completely; I feel stronger than ever. If you are looking for a place that will invest and care about you, come here. I have tried personal trainers before but usually they just give you generic training plans and are ready for the next client, not the case here, this is true personal training, they are as invested as you are. It is worth every dollar.

I can't say enough good things about my trainer, Natalie and the North Austin facility! I've never been a "morning person" but I actually look forward to getting up extra early to hit the gym because I always leave feeling stronger, more energetic, and positive about my life. Let me start by saying this is my first experience with personal training - AND hold on tight....this is a long review. I was very nervous at first, but my trainer, Natalie, has made it so fantastic! She is extremely thorough when explaining proper form, eating habits, and lifestyle changes that will help me accomplish my goals. She goes above and beyond, always. She'll text me to remind me to eat before our workouts, records me while doing a certain exercise to make sure I can see what I'm doing right or what I need to modify, and is very flexible with her schedule. She's also extremely compassionate and very in tune with how I'm feeling that day. She can tell if I'm struggling in a certain area and she needs to change up our routine a bit, on the fly or spends extra time to make sure I understand how to do an exercise the right way, without hurting myself.
The gym as a whole is also great. Everyone is very professional, but they're not afraid to be silly, too....I love this. Almost every time I come in for a session, I'm greeted with a big hello from every trainer. It's pretty cool. I never feel ANY judgement. Only lots of love from the trainers that really want to help you improve.
Now, the really good stuff - I'm seeing results!! Of course the physical results are already stellar. After only almost 3 months, I'm more toned, my muscles have grown at a measurable rate, and I don't feel like I'm going to die during a workout :) The mental/lifestyle changes I've seen are also amazing - I'm happier, less stressed, less tired during the day, AND I don't drink alcohol during the week anymore. At all. This is huge.
Anyway, Natalie is a dang saint and I'm SO glad I started training with her. It's seriously worth every penny. Loooove her and this place!

I love the environment here and how it feels personal and never over crowded. All the trainers make an effort to say good morning or have a good weekend to anyone coming or going. This has been my first experience with formal training and Marina has been great. She knows when to push you but also knows when you look like you need some water or a breather. Can’t say enough about how impressed I am by the trainers, the quality and customization of training for their clients, and the gym itself. I’ve been to lots of trainers and gyms in the past all over downtown Austin and northern Austin — this is one of the best experiences I’ve had yet.

I tend to prefer a smaller, more private training experience with great energy and good people who genuinely care about their team and their clients. I see that here!! The trainers are skillful, take time to teach you, supportive, laser-focused on form, and will push you in the best way to reach your personal goals. There is a humanness and “Can-Do” attitude among all the trainers, which is especially evident. As though that’s not enough, just today... I was impressed with how patient and yet still motivating a trainer was with a client who was having a rough day — I’ve never seen a trainer invest so much of their heart and mind into a client’s success and that was moving to see.

The gym experience gives me Dogpound vibes. ;) Also -- they keep it spotless and sanitized.

My experience thus far cannot begin to compare to my experience in various gyms over the last 20 yrs. They just simply don't compare!I am incredibly impressed with the general manager, Renay. He's been amazing with his communication which has in turn helped me with my accountability. I had to reschedule last minute one day because my daughter was sick. He was very understanding and even asked how she was doing the next time we spoke. While I'm very aware that I am just one of many members, I continuously get the personalized attention and tools I need to succeed. I feel like they're on this journey with me to ensure my success.
I've been training with Sandy who has been an absolute blessing! She's the perfect mix of what I see as the ideal trainer. She's easy to talk to, genuine, encouraging and extremely passionate about helping her clients. At the same time, she's incredibly knowledgeable and will push you while educating you on proper form (to reduce risk of injury and maximize results). All while mixing workouts up to keep things fun so you will never be bored!
