I’m a very active person and I love working out, I have practice different disciplines, and different gyms and CrossFit 1836 have been so far the best. I have become a way much better version of my self in such a short period of time, I knew I was missing something and I’m so glad I found what it was.
Their nutrition coaching is just the best, I have been with three different nutritionist, and I thought I knew it all, but when I tried their nutrition system my performance changed drastically for good and I can’t just express with words how thankful I am for being part of this amazing family. So far the best investment in me ❤️

I love CrossFit 1836. I worked out during my pregnancy. They helped me make modifications throughout, which helped make me jump back faster after birth. The coaches are wonderful and work with you to meet your needs. They also have nutrition coaching that teaches you skills for life. It’s a great atmosphere and an awesome workout!

This is the fifth box I have been a part of. I have seen a lot of coaches. And I can say that Crossfit 1836 is a shining example of what an affiliate should be.
Matthew Alexander leads coaching with an emphasis on not just form but scaling for performance and quality. At a time when Crossfit has really lost its identity, it is great to find a box with it’s core values intact with a high degree of integrity.
The members are also a delight. And for a person, like me, that is quiet and appears standoffish it has been a great experience.

As an older gentleman, only by age of course, at 59 years of age I began working out with this group of people and coaching staff at CrossFit 1836 in November of 2021. I have to say, I am extremely impressed with the results. Not only are the coaching and nutritionist staff very thoughtful and helpful, they also do there very best to make one accountable.
If you are looking for a place where you can start at your own pace, willing to get the form and techniques down first before loading the weight, and learn how to eat more balanced meals throughout the day, this is the place to be to define a new you!
I began eating B/L/D and added two snacks through the day all the while keeping my macros to 30% Fat(Good fat)/40% Carbs(Good Carbs)/30% protein each time I ate. All this while maintaining a daily caloric intake of ~ 2,100 calories a day. The fat began to shred. The muscle mass began to show up, and I am losing fat mass and adding muscle mass in-route to my goal of 195#s on this 6ft frame of mine. All of this after having both of my knees totally replaced in February and July of 2021. Couldn't have done it without the coaching, nutritional, and CrossFit members support, words of encouragement, and motivation.

1. Before starting at CrossFit 1836 what was it that you were looking for?
I was looking for quick fix to my challenge of high blood pressure. I was on two medications for 3 years, and I tried to work out on my own. Between walking and zumba classes. I wanted to also make some changes since heart disease is in my family, I needed to make some serious changes.
2. What kept you from getting there?
Major lack of motivation and fatigue. I never saw myself in a gym like CF1836, much less a CrossFit gym.
3. How did Crossfit 1836 and Nutrition help you overcome it to get what you were looking for?
Starting with Nutrition helped with my energy, so much. It also helped with some weight loss, making me feel physically better and stronger and confident to try to work out. I was blessed to build trust with my Nutrition Coach (Sara) who also worked with me one on one with private sessions in the gym, for a couple of months. I learned some fundamentals, safety and lingo, that really helped me feel confident in starting a game plan to work out. Sara has helped me a lot, in regards to not see meal prepping as such a major hassle. As well as getting into the gym. Sara helped me see the excuses I built in my mind, and squash them. Transform them to bridges to help me overcome the obstacles I created overtime. Even now, when I may have an "off" day or busy life schedule, I remember some of the tools and motivational tips and I have been able to pull myself out of that rut and get back on track. I am not staying in those rut moments as long as I use to.
I look forward to seeing myself get stronger and accomplishing new PR's in different ways.
4. What is life like now that you have overcome and achieved success?
I never would have pushed myself as hard as I do in a class. After 6 months of CrossFit, I was able to get off and have been able to stay off both blood pressure medications. I have lost weight and gained muscle. I actually look forward to working out, because of how I feel, accomplished and strong. Workouts are able to be modified so this helps me so much to get a workout in and not get hurt. I love my gym community as well. I look forward to seeing my fellow team members and coaches. I actually miss people, when I do not see them often. We all have built accountability with one another and will check on each other. Even encourage each other to participate outside of the gym in some physical positive exercise or competitions. I have been able to share my knowledge, tips and motivation that helps me with people around me. My main goal is to teach my children to be better equipped for their physical and mental health success. This my journey and I am grateful to have CF1836 to help along the way.

I enrolled my middle school son in the main program to develop some strength and overall fitness and work ethic for sports. He has been so stoked about each workout and comes home totally beaming with excitement and pride. This is really a supportive and fun place for ALL to get strong and fit.
He’s pretty picky when it comes to athletic programs, so I am blessed that these folks are nearby.

I joined Crossfit 1836 three months ago and it was the best decision I did for my health. I was lacking movement and my body was feeling tired, worn-out and i wasn't sleeping well. I recently had the opportunity to be a part of their "28 days nutrition challenge" and it was life changing for me.
In the "28 days nutrition challenge, I learn good nutrition habits for a healthier lifestyle like how to plate my plate, techniques to de-stress, how to prep meals, etc.
The coaches provided me with support and accountability to help keep those healthy nutrition habits.
I feel more energetic, I sleep better and the inflammation in my body has been less. I recommen this
Habit based approach nutrition challenge to anyone who is interested in a better way of living.
I since then have signed up to continue the nutrition coaching with coach Sharon and I can't wait to start.

Joining the 1836 Nutrition Challenge really helped recalibrate my nutritional focus and reinforce a habit based approach to success! The Challenge was a great way to revisit the building blocks of nutritionally balanced meal/snacks and the daily practice of accountability tasks. I started CrossFit 1836 a few months ago and chose to start with a program that paired a nutritionist and 3 workouts a week. I was always hesitant to try CrossFit because in my mind, I was afraid of injuring myself and was afraid I couldn’t do all the things CrossFit includes in their workouts. Plus , I wasn’t sure if I wanted to invest that money in myself. I am super glad I did because the way CrossFit 1836 sets up their new members is truly a step up from other group fitness programs. When I started, I had multiple private sessions with a coach that helped me feel super comfortable with equipment and movements that are used often. I also love that as I integrated into group classes, the coaches were still super helpful and the other members were very friendly. I also met with one of their nutritionists throughout the first few months for check ins, nutritional support and goal settings. My goal was to feel stronger and have more energy. The nutrition was a huge help because as a nurse, I frequently eat fast food after long days and skip meals. Sharon (the nutritionist) has helped me come up with lots of healthier snack/meals on the go options for me that have helped me gain muscle and lose fat, while still enjoying the things I love. I highly recommend joining this gym and investing in yourself.

Absolutely incredible staff! Personalized assistance start to finish. From the introductory coaching to the class workouts - I always feel supported and encouraged. I have loved my experience at every workout since I started here 4 months ago, and the patient and encouraging nutrition coaching from Sharon, too. I've gained muscle, endurance, and confidence already, and I feel comfortable predicting that I'll get to most of my fitness goals within the next year. The best thing about this gym is that so many of the long term members and the staff are adults with life experiences including parenthood and injuries, etc so they do NOT try to push people beyond where they can safely do each workout. There is always an option to scale down a workout to whatever level you're capable of, and no one is judging anyone else. It's been GREAT for me to get back into working out and eating right after having my baby. She's going to see a strong, healthy Momma and I love that.

I am not really into exercising, but WOW. I have been to other CrossFit gym in the past and I hated it, too ‘snobs’ for my taste.
But in 1836, it’s different. You do feel like you belong even if you never did CrossFit before.
They have a nutrition plan that helps with your goal - with real nutritionists - and the classes are great!

I was very intimidated when I first started Crossfit 1836 a year ago. The majority of the Crossfitters here look much more physically fit than the average person at a traditional gym. I gave the classes a try due to the motivation and training I received from Coach Lexi. The workouts are very intense, but I can now complete the workouts with everyone else in the class and scale down as needed. Physically, I feel better than I have felt in my life. I had very little fitness training before I started Crossfit, but with dedication, I have improved alot. I was a true beginner when I started. If I can learn to do Crossfit's unique exercises, then anyone can!

The coaches genuinely want to see you succeed in your fitness and nutrition goals. One of the reasons I chose 1836 over other boxes is because the coaches make sure you have correct form in all of the movements involved with CF and offer scaled/modified options for athletes of all levels. I couldn’t stay focused, I needed someone to hold me accountable and help me push through.
The Coaches and nutritionist are so helpful and motivating.The fact that I’m being held accountable with tracking meals, drinking more water, getting rest, etc. checking in on me❤️helping and pushing during the workouts.
I have more energy, I feel better, I look better and I’m getting stronger and fit intoclothes that I haven’t wore in years.
Side note…. Almost every other day I talk myself into not working out, morning comes and I’m excited about going to the box. Everyone that ask what are you doing, you look so good, when I say I am doing CrossFit they are amazed. From my initial meeting w Matt(coach )I was scared because everyone said it was so intense, which it is😂but it helps to have the support and patience of the wonderful staff @1836 and the community… I committed to 3 months I can’t wait to see what 3 years looks like💪🏾👊🏽💕 #team1836!!

They really do work with you and cater to every level of talent. Great trainers and great nutritionist.
I sit at a desk for about 10-12 hours a day between school and work. I just wanted, and needed, to do something that made me feel as if I was making some sort of progress to feel better both physically and mentally. They were patient even when I wasn’t and that really did make a lot of difference. With so many people at different levels, they do a great job of keeping people moving forward at their own pace through a level of person interaction that you’d expect from a personal training session.
It’s been over 100 days now and I am not only seeing results but feeling like I have a much more balanced life style in large part to the trainers and nutritionist they have here. I feel good and look forward to each session each day. I would highly recommend coming in. It was worth every penny.

I would like to recommend CrossFit 1836 for your child. At first, my daughter was not a fan of "having to" come to crossfit, but once she got to know Coach Lexi and how much she cares about her well-being, she looks forward to her sessions. Coach Lexi is super positive and motivational when working with my daughter's group. Not only does she focus on giving her kids a good workout with emphasis on proper form, but she also teaches the kids about adopting a healthy lifestyle. After workouts, she spends time having a conversation with the group about the importance of schoolwork and succeeding in their academic endeavors. She even has them maintain a journal that she reviews with them during this time. Now my daughter is conscientious about her eating habits and how much she needs to workout during the week. Thank you Coach Lexi for offering this youth program and for the amazing job that you do!

I joined Crossfit 1836 a little over 3 months ago and it's one of the best decisions I've made. I had another gym membership before but was lacking motivation to go, and when I did make it, I was bored with the workouts.
Crossfit 1836 has totally changed all that. The workouts are fun, structured, challenging, and there are great coaches explaining the movements, many of which were new to me. It's very motivating to learn new exercises and lifts and challenge yourself constantly to improve. I've also made some great friends in the classes. Everyone is very inviting and willing to help/motivate. It's a great little family, especially being fairly new to the Kingwood community.
If you're on the fence about joining, come check it out, you won't regret it.

I am so thankful for 1836! The fellowship within the 1836 community is so encouraging and motivating. I never thought I could do CrossFit, I was super intimidated, but I finally gave it a try and am so surprised at how much I can actually do! The coaches take their time to explain proper form and even help me scale workouts when I need to. The nutrition program has helped me take control of my diet and health. I joined Crossfit 1836 in April and have loved every minute of it. I was hesitant to sign-up bc it can be very intimidating to start something new and feel like an outsider. I was worried about learning the terminology, correct form, hurting myself etc., but the coaches were so helpful, knowledgeable, attentive and always there to answer my questions. I felt comfortable from day one, everyone was so welcoming and friendly! I love the feeling that we’re all a team working together during each workout, cheering each other on. When I moved to the area I was nervous about starting a new CrossFit gym. This place and all the members make you feel welcome and included on day one! The coaching staff is awesome and are very dedicated to making you the best you can be while pushing you but also scaling things to your own personal goals. It’s a great place to be!

I love this place! The facility, the focus on overall health, and the people have made CrossFit 1836 my family’s home away from home. I was very concerned to start a Crossfit program before I started at 1836. I worried I would not be able to do the exercises or keep up. I was also worried about help and support from the members that are avid crossfitters. I can definitely say I was quickly put at ease when I joined. Immediately I felt at home with the great coaches and members! I never felt lost or was never worried about the pace of the workouts due to being able to scale back based on my ability.

CrossFit 1836 pushes me harder than I would ever push myself. Even in group fitness classes at the gym I don’t work this hard. The coaches plan purposeful warmups and always make sure you are using proper from. I did it a few years ago then quit but I have yet to find something I like as much as this family style, small business of athletes who push and inspire. I’ve been back for six weeks and I can already see changes in my body.

Great coaching and facility, and the complete CrossFit sense of community. For those intimidated by CrossFit or think it is "only for those already in shape," or that it is dangerous/too intense...totally false. I've worked out alongside those in their 70s! Everything is tailored to your ability and comfort with the exercises. Stop making excuses and go!

From the first day, I was treated like an individual and not part of a group. Always coaching me, always helping correct my form. And not in a an annoying way. They REALLY do want you to succeed. The gym is big, and a lot of class times. I have a great time each time I go. Best of all, no one ever judged me. Took me in like part of a new family. If you're serious about changing your body for the better, this IS the best place to go.

If you really want to challenge yourself and make a difference in your life, and your health. Then I recommend trying out Crossfit 1836! I’m a member of the Houston Swat Team and when I decided to not only start CrossFit but join Crossfit 1836, it made a huge difference in my physical fitness game and it shows in my profession. Most importantly to all, as we know health care ain’t cheap, so don’t wait for the doctor to hand you bad news. Make a difference in your health, and give Crossfit 1836 a chance. 1836 was my first experience (ever) at cross fit. I always maintained an active lifestyle, but nothing compared to cross fit. It kicked my butt the first couple months! However, it is definitely worth the commitment!! The Academy classes and foundation workouts offered are a great way to get started without overdoing it. 1836 is a unique environment where everyone is welcoming and friendly and more than willing to help you and cheer you on!

I came to CrossFit 1836 when a friend recommended it and other reviews guided my decision to try this gym almost two years ago. As time passed, the other huge sell for me was the community. When you are new to a group activity (most classes have eight to ten people) it is easy to feel lost. People here introduce themselves to you and cheer you on. Sometimes you are paired with another person and you are encouraged to go farther than you thought possible. The trainers are highly skilled and practice what they preach. They say you should surround yourself with people you admire. You will find those people at CrossFit 1836. Join Us! ;)

I started going to CrossFit 1836 back when they were working out of a converted storage faciliry. Since then they have moved to a bigger location adjacent to that gym, which allows for more accessibility and visibility to Kingwood residents driving in and out of the neighborhood.
My time at the gym has resulted in many new friendships with people of all walks of life and of varying careers and backgrounds.
Some of my workout gang has come and gone but the friendships still remain, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Nobody will force you out of your comfort zone, but everyone will help push you to go beyond your own personal goals. Great place to be regardless of your skill level. Fantastic Crossfit box, great coaches, members are friendly and helpful to all levels. I started there 3 years ago, noticed a difference in my physique within a week. I am not an athlete and at 51 years don't aspire to be one. Everyone said "crossfit was too difficult and way too hard for older folks". My husband who is 65 does it daily and the coaches encourage you at whatever age and whatever skill level.

April 2011 was the month in which I was reborn; I began MY revolution at CrossFit 1836. I hadn't done anything remotely physical since high school until I was introduced to this box (gym). The owners/trainers make it fun and challenging; it never gets easier, you just get better! Since that time I have been to several other CrossFit boxes and none come close to the experience you'll receive at CrossFit 1836. This is not your everyday Globogym where we body sculpt, stare into mirrors, and we damn sure don't use machines (we make them)! We are a family.. and every new comer is welcomed with a firm handshake, the Southern way. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a free class. Trust me, there is not "too out of shape"... This is the only place where you'll hear more cheering for the last to finish a workout than for the first!
