After having two horrendous experiences with previous Crossfit gyms, I was very hesitant to give it another opportunity. Coach Kevin and Crossfit BYOB completely changed my perspective on what a Crossfit gym and the community should be moving forward, not what it once was. From the day that I joined, Kevin has been resilient in his focus on communication of proper technique, ensuring the achievement of each individual clients goals, and providing a great atmosphere to build the best version of your self as possible. Joining this gym has been one of the best decisions I have made since moving to Texas.

Professional coaching, friendly staff and members, diverse community, clean and safe environment.
I have been a member for more than a year now and I enjoy working out there from the day I joined. Even though it is a group class the coaches will make it feel like a private session with specific pointers and suggestions based your skill level. I started as a beginner with a very little knowledge about functional fitness, the coaches guided me through every step in achieving my fitness goals today. They have the best program and I 100% recommend this gym to everybody.
The best place to start your 2021, achieving all your fitness goals safely and efficiently.

I just finished my 4 weeks of foundations and I love it! I had never done anything like CrossFit before and was definitely scared to try this but I’m so glad I did it. The coaches are really great, they make sure you’re doing everything correctly and aren’t gonna hurt yourself which was really important to me. And the community is awesome too. I thought everyone was going to be intimidating but even on my very first day so many people introduced themselves to me, and I’ve had a lot of fun at some of the community events! The workouts have definitely been challenging and there were points I thought I wouldn’t finish the workout but with the coaches and everyone there I always have and the feeling after is amazing, I’ve really surprised myself with what I’ve been able to do.

Where do I even start other than this place is amazing! I started my fitness journey here just over a year ago during a 6 week challenge the gym was hosting. From day one to day 365+ the coaches have been invested in me and my fitness goals. From the foundations class (the first 3-4 weeks at the gym is spent here learning proper movements and some basic gym safety) to full on CrossFit classes I have been nothing short of impressed. I love how the coaches have the knowledge to modify each workout to the athletes ability. I also love how the coaches are not afraid to push you to help reach your fitness goals. I take the CrossFit classes and I am enrolled in the nutrition coaching. Combining the two has been a game changer in my fitness journey (I’m more fit now than I was as a high school athlete). Through nutrition coaching I have learned what works well for my body (foods, vitamins, protein supplements, etc) and what my intake needs to be for proper energy levels and to get the results I am looking for. I love how the nutrition coaching isn’t just about what you are putting into your body, but also how you are treating it. My coach asks simple things in my nutrition spreadsheet like: “how was your sleep this week” or “on a scale of 1-5 was your recovery Like”. Each coach at BYoB is invested in each athlete which makes a world of difference in the overall gym atmosphere. Each athlete at BYOB is a person the coaches are truly invested in whether at the gym or outside the gym and that’s what makes this place amazing!

This gym is great for anyone who wants to just get healthier. They cater well to beginners. That’s what I was when I joined more than 3 years ago. I had never done an Olympic style lift, a burpee or a squat. All that Kevin and his coaching staff are concerned with is making sure you have good form and that you work within your ability. Safety is paramount! But even better than that is the community. It’s very inclusive of all levels. We love to have fun while we are working hard to improve our overall health. Come visit Crossfit BYOB, you’ll be so glad you did.

Been going here for 10 months now and I love it. Coaches are friendly and amazing, and they give you personal attention. They modify the workout to suit your needs, and won't let you lift heavy until your form is right. This is important to me as I was very worried about hurting myself lifting weights. They also host a ton of events which is a great opportunity to make new friends. Overall a great place to workout.

This is my first experience with crossfit. I am generally active and in good shape.. however, I wanted to start strength training and preferred to have some guidance as I get started. I couldn’t be happier with crossfit in general and BYOB as the place. Few pointers for folks who are looking to explore crossfit:
On Crossfit:
• It is a great workout! It mixes parts from various different kinds of trainings to create a very interesting workout that will help improve your strength and endurance
• Every day the workout is different focusing on different aspects of fitness. So it keeps challenging you to make sure you are progressing.
On BYOB:
• The coaches are really amazing. Extremely knowledgeable, professional, courteous and dedicated. They make effort to understand your needs, remember your progress and even make the effort to remember your name! I trained under 3 different coaches and all of them were awesome.
• Group size is small. I have had group sizes from 2 people to about 6 people. It is small and therefore the coach is able to observe and guide each one individually. This helps a lot especially when you are new and getting started.
• The gym is clean, the equipment is well maintained. All the equipment used is cleaned after use so little chance of you getting sick in the gym
• The culture.. it is interesting as I read this in one other review. The place has a culture of acceptance and joy. Folks great each other, laugh and generally seem to be enjoying themselves. It is very positive and you feel encouraged to come back and work out with the group.
• There are plenty of classes and lots of time options. Plus, they have an awesome app to schedule your workouts, see who else is joining the workout and also record your progress.
• Finally, I must call out that the place is really ethical. This is not a place that is out there to get you! I had some injury and had to stop abruptly.. even though the contract requires 30 days advanced notice before cancellation, the gym waved that for me and refunded the charges. I really appreciate that!
Few things to note:
• CrossFit, I feel, is not for everybody. If you are looking to loose weight, I suggest, first focus on loosing weight with diet and cardio. Once you are in decent shape and want to take your fitness to next level, consider CrossFit. This is my personal feeling only and I’m sure there are others who will differ. If you are unsure, do try the free class BYOB offers to see if cross fit is what you are looking for.
• If you have minor aches and pains, get them addressed before you start crossfit. Crossfit is intensive and will stress your joints and muscles. If you have some minor issues, they can get aggravated and the healing can take longer. I experienced this and had to take break due to my pain that got worse.
Folks who are planning to consider crossfit and BYOB, I suggest go ahead! With BYOB, I feel you are in great hands and you will enjoy the experience! Wish you very best!!
Cheers!

I started Crossfit a little over two years ago. I am currently a sophomore in college and Crossfit byob has been very helpful in working with me while I go off to college and come back for breaks. The coaches here are awesome, you can tell they know exactly what they are doing and actually care that you understand each movement yourself. Something that is unique from this box compared to others is how the coaches Kevin and Amber are Z Health certified. This has been extremely helpful to me. I was a competitive athlete all my life which resulted in me having surgery on almost all of my knee and tearing my ankle in soccer, cheer, and skiing. Kevin and Amber have helped my knee improve so much from using their Z Health. I highly recommend trying this if you have any past injuries. This box is all around great and I would love for everyone to get to come and see for themselves and see how much they can improve mentally and physically here. The community here is super strong and I honestly do not know what I would do with out my coaches and fellow crossfitters here. I have learned and improved so much from being at Crossfit BYOB!!

I've been an active CrossFitter for 2 + years and I've been to many different CrossFit boxes: Valley CrossFit, CrossFit Montclair, CrossFit Miami Beach, CrossFit 5th Avenue, CrossFit Sherman Oaks, CrossFit Plano (now out of business), to name a few. There are so many different CrossFit boxes in any given area it can be hard to choose which one to join. There has also been a lot of recent articles proclaiming the "dangers" of CrossFit. So let me tell you all the reasons why CrossFit BYOB is a 5 star CrossFit gym:
1. The coaching and programming - Kevin Hickey (Head Coach and Co-Owner) makes sure that our programming is well rounded. He wants his athletes to be strong, have good endurance and good mobility. Thus his daily workouts (WODs) always have a strength component, skill work and a metcon/aerobic conditioning. While there is the usual variety of movements, the programming is not random and haphazard. He has a goal in mind and that is reflected in his programming. One month it might be working on our 1 rep max dead lift, for another 2 months the programming will involve movements to help us with our Olympic lifts, or even endurance (burpees and rowing!)
2. The community - Community is a big part of CrossFit and the group of people at CrossFit BYOB really represents well. Everyone will always say "hi" to the newest members and make sure they know your name. (OK that sounds like Cheers, whatever it's the truth). My husband and I went to CrossFit Miami Beach last month and neither the Coach nor any of the 25+ people in the morning class that we went to introduced themselves or said "hello", CrossFit BYOB is not like that.
3. The facility - new, clean, great equipment, showers and a very convenient location.
So if you are looking for a great place to get fit and strong, with a great group of people then I highly recommend CrossFit BYOB.
