This is a great gym. I’ve been coming here for almost 3 years and have seen it during the whole transition period and can confidently say that the gym is better now than it ever was! Great coaches too!

I recently had the pleasure of dropping in at CrossFit Uncommon while visiting from Tennessee, and I can’t recommend it enough! My friend Anthony, who is a coach there, invited me to his Thursday night class, and it was fantastic. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the workout was challenging yet fun.

I also attended the Saturday morning class, which was led by Marco. He did an outstanding job with his coaching. After the workout, I met Jenna, one of the owners, and she was super welcoming. Her friendly demeanor really added to the great community vibe of the gym.

Overall, my experience was awesome! Both classes were well-structured and enjoyable. I’ll definitely be back for another drop-in the next time I’m in town. If you’re looking for a great CrossFit community, CrossFit Uncommon is the place to be!

Fantastic coaching and gym! The programming is great, and a tight knit community that makes everyone feel welcome. When I injured my back, Marco helped me get back to an even stronger state by working on improving my technique and focusing on my weaknesses. The coaches here focus on technique and safety over anything else. Best box I’ve been to so far!

CrossFit Uncommon is an amazing gym. First, I love the community aspect. Everyone has been warm and welcoming since I joined. We push and motivate each other during class. But we also laugh and make jokes and have fun too. And they set up and share fun social events outside of class to provide opportunities to build relationships with other members of the gym. The coaches are phenomenal. They provide great guidance to help you reach your goals. The facilities are spacious and clean. You have plenty of room to be comfortable during your workouts. Overall, I’ve enjoyed my time as a member of the gym. I feel better physically and mentally. I’m making great relationships with others. I’d recommend this gym to anyone!

CrossFit Uncommon is the first gym I’ve ever actually looked forward to going to. The workouts are challenging but manageable, the coaching is next-level, and the community is supportive without being intimidating.

I started with zero experience in CrossFit and wasn’t sure what to expect, but everything was scaled to my level and I’ve made steady progress in strength, conditioning, and confidence.

The facility is clean, well-equipped, and well-run. If you're in Austin and want serious results, whether through CrossFit or personal training, this place is worth it.

Crossfit Uncommon is great, been going for about a month, the coaching is top notch, going here is a great way to get in shape and get a lot stronger. It doesn't matter what skill level you are, they provide great coaching to get everybody up to speed, as well as providing modifications to workouts based on individual needs. CrossFit Uncommon has completely changed the way I approach fitness. I came in looking for motivation and structure, and ended up with a full-blown transformation. The coaches here are incredibly supportive and knowledgeable, whether you’re doing a CrossFit class or personal training.

Dropped in to CrossFit Uncommon while visiting Austin from Australia and was blown away by the experience. The coaching was sharp, the workout was tough but fun, and the members made me feel welcome straight away.

The gym is clean, well equipped, and has everything you’d want whether you’re local or just passing through. I’ve trained at a lot of gyms back home and this one definitely stands out.

Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great CrossFit session in Austin. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town.💪🏽

I've been doing CrossFit for about ten years and have been coming to Uncommon since it opened (and belonged to its predecessor gyms). The gym checks all the boxes - good space, tons of equipment that the gym maintains regularly, and welcoming coaches and membership. In addition to great programming, members and coaches are constantly scheduling social outings outside the gym. Overall, it's an awesome community.

CrossFit Uncommon (formerly Black Metal CrossFit / Outsiders Barbell) is fantastic! Very challenging programming; excellent coaches who can fix your form or help modify for injuries; flexible with open gym; easy to sign up or put on vacation hold; & slightly lower cost than other xfits. Great vibe of friendly & competitive folks there to sweat. Owned by Jenna who’s a bada$$. North central location just off N Lamar N & 183; easy parking. Photos of a lighter more-cardio Time Trial day.
I’m the gal still trying in the back… I hadn’t done a box jump in 30+ years; I now can. My knees used to hurt constantly; I now sprint up 2 steps at a time again. My DL max keeps increasing…& I did Murph (slick and assisted PUs) in less than a hour for the first time - now I need to master that pull-up!

The coaching staff is diverse, knowledgeable, and genuinely supportive, which has created a welcoming and motivating community. This is more than just a gym—it’s a place to grow stronger, both physically and mentally.

My sessions with Tarek were great. He helped me achieve my goals of burning fat and regaining much-needed energy. I had a really weak back, and he designed a program to help me get back in shape during his semi-private sessions as I prepared to start CrossFit. He focused on gradually building strength, and I am seeing results much faster than ever before in my workout journey. Tarek truly pushes you to achieve greatness. I would definitely recommend him if you want to feel good and look good, as I’ve heard that everything falls into place when those two aspects align.

I've been training at CrossFit Uncommon for a few months now, and it has truly become one of the best parts of my weekly routine. I take part in the Semi-Private classes with Tarek, and he offers the perfect balance of personal attention and community energy.

Tarek, has been a game-changer. His coaching style is focused, knowledgeable, and adaptable—he tailors each session to meet my specific goals, limitations, and progress. Whether I’m working on strength, endurance, or mobility, Tarek is always paying close attention to form and pushing me just the right amount.

I have only attended the morning sessions. However, there are multiple time slots throughout the day for various classes which makes it easy to stay consistent even with a busy schedule.

If you’re looking for a gym that feels supportive, flexible, and serious about helping you improve in every area—CrossFit Uncommon is it. And if you get the chance to train with Tarek, you’ll be in excellent hands.

Been training here for a few months now and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. The personal training is next level. Tarek is a knowledgeable coach who cares about your progress. The nutrition coaching has been a game changer too; it’s not just about the workouts, he really helps you dial in on your diet to match your goals.

I had an amazing experience training at Crossfit Uncommon. I participated in the semi-private classes with Coach Tarek, and I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s an incredible coach—knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping you improve.

One of the biggest areas I noticed progress in was my mobility, thanks to the focused mobility training Coach Tarek incorporated into our sessions. His attention to form and function made every workout both fun and effective, and he tailored the personal training sessions to suit my goals and limitations.

The facility is clean, and well-equipped, and the community there is welcoming, encouraging, and full of great energy. Whether you're new to fitness or an experienced athlete, this place has something to offer.

If you're looking for quality Austin personal training, expert coaching, and a supportive CrossFit environment, I highly recommend checking out this gym!

I started going to CrossFit Uncommon for personal training this spring. The gym provides a supportive workout environment with an assortment of strength programs while also focusing on injury prevention and stretching. I have already felt incredible transformation in how I approach working out. Not only that but the muscle gain through the first few months has been astonishing. The fitness coaching staff is top notch. I take classes with Tarek and he really takes the time going over the fundamentals and reasoning behind the exercises rather than jumping right in. This has helped me build proper form and a foundation to build off of. I suggest dropping in and checking the place out if you are considering fitness coaching or Crossfit in North Austin.

Two months ago I rented a uhaul from this gym. I had a terrible experience, and left a review on Uhaul to warn others. Instead of taking my criticism and implementing solutions to my issues. Someone from this gym got my number (which is a huge violation of my privacy) and harassed me over text. This is just embarrassing. I hope whoever did this takes some anger management classes.

Ive attached my uhaul review and you can also see all the other terrible reviews from other dissatisfied customers, that I’m sure also received a nasty text.

Much respect to Coach Tarek and Coach Mark! I came in with knee pain from playing soccer and within a few months the pain went from a 5 to a 0. I can keep playing my favorite sport soccer thanks to these guys.

Coach Tarek is an attentive and positive trainer who is very knowledgable about knees and the unique struggles a soccer player may go through. He manages the gym floor well, keeping an eye on every person doing semi-private training. CrossFit Uncommon would not be the same gym without him.

Not only has my knee pain gone away, my soccer game has improved. Likely due to stronger legs, lower back and core. Highly recommend semi-private training for athletes! Training with Coach Mark and Coach Tarek is providing immense value to my life.

I walked into CrossFit Uncommon the day after my oncologist told me my cancer had gone into remission. I started training there the next day. It immediately became clear to me that I was standing at the foot of a very big hill, something that humorously enough I’d not considered. Coaching is everything at CrossFit and I knew right away that CF Uncommon had been that first best choice I could have made. Everything is scaled for me in such a way that I feel safe physically- no need to fear injury, and they have me working both hard and smart. The Box itself is kept clean as I’ve see at a gym. The equipment is all you’d ever need. The community itself at Uncommon, all of the athletes, the coaches, the owners make for a community that anyone would want to be a part of. I have been a member at CF Uncommon for 7 months & Truly, cannot get enough!

Every coach is knowledgeable, welcoming, encouraging without too much pressure, & overall some of the best coaching I have experienced. They encourage & happily welcome questions, do not mind explaining & even re-explaining if needed. As long as you show up with an attitude to learn & be coached, your experience will be excellent. & truly, even if you didn't you'd still get five star service 🤭

I took a 8 year hiatus from crossfit, got into other avenues & worked my way back. When I first started I did an assessment with coach Tarek (arguably the best person/coaching out there, no lie) & we went through movements very thoroughly to make sure this was going to be an easy-ish transition.

If the coaching hasn't already convinced you, the community of individuals that show up there are some of the most encouraging, caring, funny, down to earth, bad ass group I have the privilege of calling friends!

When you step into Uncommon, you step into a family that pushes each other every day to be and do better. From coaching to athletes.

Don't hesitate, they will meet you where you are, wherever you are on your journey!

After three years at my previous gym, where I seemed to plateau across every major lift, I was definitely hesitant to try another Crossfit gym and get the same results. That all changed after I met Coach Tarek during our intro and could see that this was a no BS gym that was not about pointlessly chasing single rep PRs and showing off. I decided to go all-in with the semi-private training and have been following the diet and my results speak for themselves - just since January I'm up 8 pounds while simultaneously being down 2% BF. Insane.

That is why I'd say that if you are even remotely thinking about it I would definitely recommend coming to check out a class and seeing if this could be a good fit for you. I am by no means gymnastically inclined and can barely dream about a muscle up or headstand push up but I've never felt out of place as the coaches do a fantastic job of scaling workouts for everyone. If you can swing it, the semi-private training is worth every penny and gives you access to more classic hypertrophy type workouts that will complement the general Crossfit classes during the rest of your week. Can't recommend this place enough!

I was working out here for several months. As a beginner in the world of CrossFit, the coaches were amazing at giving you the attention necessary to grow your form and foundation.

The highlight for me was the semi-private training with Coach Tarrek—his expertise, attention to detail (especially mobility work), and ability to push me while keeping things fun made all the difference. The gym environment was welcoming, and the coaching was top-notch. Highly recommend to anyone looking to level up their fitness!

CrossFit Uncommon has been a great experience! For someone new to CrossFit, all of the coaches are great at providing guidance and modifications. Also, the semi private onboarding was great as an introduction to Olympic lifting. I feel confident in my ability to get through a workout without injuring myself and having support when needing modifications for an exercise.

I have dropped into a handful of CrossFit gyms previously and never was eager to join one. I finally set up an intro with Mark and Tarek, and after one class I was hooked. All the trainers and members are very friendly and helpful. It doesn’t matter your current skill set, everyone is a support system. If you don’t like being held accountable to achieve excellent results this won’t be the gym for you. Nothing but great things to say. Give CF Uncommon a try!

This is the third CrossFit gym I’ve attended in North Central Austin in a year and a half, and I must say third time’s the charm. Mark and Tarek go the extra mile beyond any coaches I’ve had before. They have extensive knowledge of the human body and offer personalized on-the-spot PT-style stretching and exercises after class to help with tendon and muscle issues. The vibe is great here too, people are friendly and the space is big and there’s lots of equipment. They use the NCFIT calendar so there’s lots of season-specific training (Open prep, Murph prep, etc). Overall I love the gym and I’m really stoked to have found it!

Shoutout to Mark, the new owner of CrossFit Uncommon. I discovered Mark through ATG Training (kneesovertoesguy) who I initially learned about from the Joe Rogan podcast a few years ago. Mark is a Level 2 ATG coach and knows his stuff. He’s a former professional rugby player from Australia and he is not only really strong, but incredibly flexible; he practices what he preaches.

I tore my ACL and after six months of rehab wanted to work with an ATG certified coach to get to the next level.

I think sometimes people think of CrossFit as Crazy, intimidating workouts, but the thing about Mark and his coaches is that they teach, support and build up your strength and mobility without overdoing it. They are very focused on longevity and building strength and mobility through consistency over time. Very welcoming and supportive environment and community. They have a variety of training options and your intro workout is free, so worth checking out!

You can tell Mark really cares; the other day, I was on a time constraint and he worked around my schedule to do a one on one training session even though my membership is only for semi-private small group classes. You can tell he really wants the best for each of his clients.

Also shoutout Tarek, another awesome coach who really knows his stuff. He’s
very knowledgeable about ATG and all aspects of strength and mobility. Tarek is super supportive, positive and also really cares about the success of everyone that walks through the door!

If I did have a concern about this place, it’s that I’m probably gonna get too shredded.

A beacon of hope in an unhealthy America obsessed with surgeries, pills and "quick fixes." This is a place where like minded individuals come together, push and encourage each other. If you are wondering where or how to start with your health, an online search will bombard and saturate you with so much information and it is not easy to determine what is correct and incorrect. Lucky for you, Crossfit Uncommon keeps it simple but yet effective. As an individual with a torn meniscus, slipped disk, and sciatica, my outlook in life was grim. In less than 6 months, the semi private classes with coach Tarek got me back to running, deep squatting, deadlifting (something I had never done before), doing pull ups which I did not have the strength to do, burn off fat, grow muscle and achieve so many PRs, it's been an incredible journey. To say I have a new lease in life is an understatement. I am one of many who have benefited tremendously. I am also grateful for Mark, Jenna, Cole, Brian and Rachel who via their classes guide me through exercises I have never done before. They explain everything so well and tailor the movements to my abilities. Thank you Crossfit Uncommon for bulletproofing my body for longevity.

Drop in. Excellent gym! Clean, welcoming, great and plentiful equipment, nice fellow athletes. Coach Tarek challenged us appropriately: more weight, a different modification, came by each person to encourage and be helpful. Also spent his own time with me following wod as I have knew issues and he wanted to share some best practices with me.

I did a drop-in at Crossfit Uncommon while in town for work. Had an amazing time, and everyone was welcoming from the coaches to the athletes. I really appreciate all the attention to tech work and coaching advice that they shared. I was one week away from my first CrossFit competition when I did my drop-in, and I really appreciate all the advice and encouragement I received! I’d recommend Crossfit Uncommon to any athlete in the area and especially for drop ins! Can’t wait to go back the next time I’m in Austin!

I’m 43 years old, and for the last five years, I’ve been leapfrogging from one injury to another. Every time I’d tell myself, “Okay, THIS is the week I’m going to start working out again,” another injury would spontaneously erupt. It’s like every part of my body was working against itself.

At my first session, they not only gave me a bunch of stretches to ease the pain but also targeted strengthening exercises to make the results last long-term. After a month and a half of working out, I am finally off of NSAIDs!

I also struggle with working out alone, but this group of eclectic, wonderful human beings brings me so much joy and motivation that I actually look forward to coming back four times a week.

At Uncommon, they build back what’s broken.

Just show up! Trust me. Now as to why….lol

I’ve done crossfit for 7 years and I’ve always loved the old school vibe and the community feel. I started crossfit back in college and was lucky enough to be a part of an amazing gym! When I graduated and moved I was always searching for that same feeling. A place where I could compete, make best friends and get actual coaching! Well, I’ve found that!

Crossfit Uncommon feels more like a family than a gym and that’s exactly what I wanted. You show up, get to work and then leave best friends!

If you are new to crossfit or are wanting a possible new crossfit home - this is the place to be. I was once told this before my first ever crossfit workout and it got me into the gym and I’ve never looked back. “The hardest part is showing up”.

I had been suffering from back and hip pain due to long hours sitting at work, so I decided to try Uncommon after hearing my husband praise Mark and his team. After just a few personal coaching sessions, my pain significantly improved. Mark, Rachel, and Tarek taught me proper form and challenged me to push myself, focusing on building strength without injury. In just four sessions, I learned more than ever before.

The community and culture at this gym are amazing. I enjoy the classes and getting to know the trainers. It's a great place to meet like-minded people, even if you're new to CrossFit. Mark's nutrition and back pain workshops were particularly helpful, making my lower back pain disappear.

A few things about this place that I love:
- The programming. I've been doing this for just over a year and they have a specific bracket for that. I can't always complete the workouts as prescribed, but that is the point. If it's just out of reach, you know you're that you're improving.
- The difference in coaching style makes for a well rounded experience. One is technically brilliant with muscle groups and body mechanics. Another has a strong spirit and encourages to find your limits. The owner, Jami, is a combination of both of these. All of them take an active interest in your improvement and help you change weights in a pinch.
- The atmosphere. Music is on point, graffiti aesthetics, encouragement, fun, focus.
- It's not way too crowded. You have space.

Outsiders is a very special place. There is a culture here that I haven't experienced at any other gym. I felt welcomed into a tight knit family the moment I walked through the doors and have never been to a gym where the community is so strong.

And so are the people. The programming is tougher than most and everyone gets challenged to give it their best, at all skill levels. It's a great home for competitive athletes as well as those just getting started. We train our minds just as much as our bodies. So if you have a positive attitude and growth mindset, this is the spot.

With no prior CrossFit experience I was incredibly nervous to come in, but chatting with Jami and the other coaches quickly helped me feel at ease. As I learned the movements everyone was very helpful and knowledgeable about how to modify based on my experience and ability.

The main reasons I wanted to join was to build community, help recovering from a hip surgery, and challenge myself in new ways. I can honestly say I’ve surpassed my goals in all 3 of those areas.

I have been working out and in the CrossFit space for a while and a lot of gyms feel very "Clicky" where it is very hard to get into/accepted by the community. OUTSIDERS IS DIFFERENT!!! This is a community that cares about each other and supports each other fully!

Not only does Coach Jami create killer programs (that have put 30lbs on my bench, 50lbs on my squat, & 60lbs on my deadlift), but I have made at least 5 friends that I consistently hang out with outside of the gym. If you are looking for a new box, there is no better place I would check.
