Karate school Martial arts school Self defense schoolAbout the Club
Denton Taekwondo Academy is a full time martial arts school, offering classes in traditional taekwondo. We stress safety, respect and excellence in our training.
Through martial arts, children, teens and adults learn self-defense, self-discipline and self-confidence. Denton Taekwondo Academy students can apply these skills to school, hobbies, careers and continuing education. This isn't just "karate lessons" but life lessons. Other benefits include increased fitness, flexibility and fun.
We offer the most classes each week of any martial arts school in Denton, including daytime for adults! We have spent over 30 years building a solid reputation in Denton for the highest quality martial arts training for kids 5+ and adults.

Our son has steadily improved and gained confidence under the instruction of Mr and Mrs Rogers. He was 4 when he started, and for the past 2 years he has grown in strength of body and mind. Mr and Mrs Rogers do a fantastic job working with young people and are great encouragers.

My daughter started with them in 2014. She loves it and is now a third degree black belt and even teaches some childrenβs classes there. It has been a wonderful experience for her. They also make me feel very welcome when I visit. The owners are professional and caring. I could not ask for a better group of people than the Rogers and the folks at Denton Tae Kwon Do.

I love this place! Mr and Mrs Rogers are great. My daughter trains here. I think Taekwondo is idea for all children, and would recommend for a lot of adults. I think discipline and learning defensive sparing is important for kids and am proud my daughter wants to learn! Thanks for all the hard work and dedication.

I have been a student at Denton Taekwondo Academy for about a year and a half now and I have loved every minute of it. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers truly care about their art and their students and it's evident from the moment you first attend a class. It's wonderful that there's such a strong adult program, since many martial arts schools have moved away from providing those. It's a great way to stay in shape, challenge yourself, and maybe even make a few friends in the process!

As someone who has trained at two different studios before coming here, I have found this place to be fantastic. Having trained here for over a year, and made my first degree black belt, I have found the teachers to be amazing, with over 15+ years of experience. Each with their own types of workouts. I would highly reccomend this place to anyone who is starting out, or an experienced martial artist.
If you have a kid or kids who are looking to try taekwomdo, this is the place to go. Both the teachers are amazing with kids and are really encouraging to them.

Weβve made Taekwondo a family activity...and we could not be happier with Denton Taekwon Do Academy. Mr. And Mrs. Rogers are exceptional instructors, patient, professional, and overall awesome! Our 10 yr old looks forward to going weekly...and thatβs saying a lot. Being over 45, I appreciate most how they allow you to adjust for your own physical limitations as necessary. Very happy we found them!

Denton Taekwando Academy is just AWESOME!
The facilities are brand new and clean. The classes are small and tailored to each students needs. The owners and instructors are very good with the children. There are no long term contracts, I believe the fees are very fair. Every student gets individual attention and there is continuous re-evaluation of each student's needs. I am an older woman, and not very athletic, and yet they worked very hard with me to help me earn a first degree black belt. I am so very impressed with the academy, the owners, the instructors and my fellow students.
I love this place and the people.

This is a great place to train for adults and kids. The instructors are great. They teach you how to do the moves but also the reasons and uses for them. The facility is brand new and very nice.

I was a student at Denton Tae Kwon Do 25 years ago and progressed to first degree black belt. Starting as an uncoordinated kid lacking self-confidence, Tae Kwon Do trained me to handle my body and form habits of discipline that would help me for years to come. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers really want students to become skilled martial artists but are just as driven to help kids become honest, respectful, and productive citizens.
My kids enrolled this year and as a parent I have a new appreciation for the program. They really have teaching Tae Kwon Do down to a science and they do it well. I know they are not just teaching my kids a martial art but they are also teaching memory patterns, goal setting, manners, self-confidence, how to handle disappointment, a how to maintain a positive attitude, how to respond quickly, and many other skills that will serve them well for decades. The best part is, the way they teach these lessons is fun!
My kids will be the 3rd generation in our family to train at Denton Tae Kwon Do academy and I expect they will one day want their kids to learn the same skills and life lessons.

I've been a (adult) student at Denton Taekwondo Academy for almost half a year now, and I've made green belt rank.
The program here is VERY good at teaching excellent martial arts skills. The classes are small, individualized, and held 6 days a week. For ten bucks more, you can go to unlimited classes each week (which means you could train for about 10 hours if you made *all* the classes).
DTA isn't part of any international Taekwondo organizations, but teaches traditional Taekwondo. What does this mean?
* No kukkiwon or organizational fees keep costs to a minimum. Each belt testing is 40$, compared to several hundreds of dollars in other organizations.
* Tuition is also inexpensive - roughly a hundred dollars a month. There also are NO CONTRACTS, which is awesome.
* The curriculum teaches practical skills that aren't altered to meet organizational needs. Some olympic organizations are very conservative on the usage of hand techniques (punches / backfists / etc) and may not even teach them. Fighting without using your hands is stupid, and DTA doesn't do that. We keep our hands up and use them in conjunction with kicks.
* DTA is not a "sparring school." Kids and adults are not shoved into full contact sparring until they've demonstrated that they understand how to use good control and block well. There haven't been serious injuries in decades (and if I'm not mistaken, the only serious one we've had here is a broken nose).
* We don't have those silly camouflage belts that the ATA has.
The instruction that I've received in the adult classes is incredibly high quality, insightful, and helpful. There are many instances in which my instructor has been able to point out and help me fix flaws in my techniques immediately. On Thursdays, a guest instructor teaches the 7:00 class, which helps give more perspective on my training.
The environment here is great. The instructors are polite without being overbearingly social. The students here are REALLY nice, making it a pleasant place to train.
Some other pros and cons that I haven't mentioned:
Pros:
*Almost everything we've been taught is *practical.* People aren't taught to, say, block a strike with a baseball bat with our forearms.
*Adults with flexibility or fitness issues can train too! I've seen some people with both problems train well and make a lot of progress. Also, if you're a fitness guy - Taekwondo is MAD cardio.
β*Not a McDojo. There aren't any contracts, silly fees, unreasonable prices, etc. The instructors are experienced, well qualified, and give instruction that is WELL worth the tuition.
Cons:
*It takes a while to get to green belt level and spar. It's made me a better martial artist, but I am an impatient guy, so...
*We practice "forms" (aka poomse / taegeuk / patterns ) and they can be boring sometimes. It's just a part of Taekwondo that people who have ADHD, like me, may dislike.
*Adult classes are held after children's classes. Children smell.
β
I've loved training here and I'd recommend DTA to anyone, including all of my friends. Anyone can train here - and it's a wonderful experience.

As a new student and returning to the martial art after a couple of decades away, I've been very impressed with the ownership and instructors. They teach sound fundamentals and have attracted a range of people, males and females of all ages. There's a sense of community among the folks, and while I don't have a child in attendance there, it's obvious that they're very good with kids.
