Love the community at this gym! I'm new to CrossFit and have been going here 4-5 times a week since September. The coaches are absolutely amazing, providing clear feedback and direction with each workout movement. You meet a lot of interesting fellow cross fitters in the workout and there's always something interesting. The gym is pretty bare bones and scrappy but the workouts are still comprehensive and make use of every part of the gym.

This gym is absolutely fantastic, and especially great for people in healthcare. I started CrossFit during my first year of medical school and the class schedule at Derive made it easy to find time to work out despite my busy schedule. They also have an open gym access option, so you can always get a workout in, even on the really long days!
The coaching here is top notch. Coaches Frank and Allison are great at recognizing different skill levels and abilities and working with you to find something safe, challenging, and fun for you.
Finally, the community here is unreal. Everyone at Derive is welcoming and eager to help you along in your fitness journey. I found lifelong friends as well as great CrossFit programming here, and I bet you will too!

I joined Derive in February 2018 and have loved working out here since the beginning! Although I haven't been super consistent the past few years, I always feel super welcomed and it feels like my "home" gym. All the coaches really take the time to get to know you and show you personal attention in class to help improve your techniques and help you get stronger. The class sizes are about 8-12 people (sometimes smaller) so this really helps! Whenever I have wanted to work on a specific movement, the coaches have taken time either before class or after class to work with me and teach me how to do the movement properly and efficiently. All the gym members are super friendly and welcoming as well. Everyone is very encouraging towards each other, which really helps during a tough workout! I have tried other CrossFit gyms (even some closer to my house) and Derive has the best community and size I have experienced so far. The coaches also put together fun community events to help the members get to know each other (like Friday Night Lights for the CrossFit Open) which are always really fun. I can see a visible difference in my body and feel that my strength has improved drastically since starting at Derive! Thanks Frank, Allison, and Julie for truly caring for all your members and making CrossFit enjoyable!

About two years after moving to Houston, my husband and I decided to get back into CrossFit. Derive was the first and only gym we visited because we immediately knew it was the place for us.
The atmosphere, facilities, coaching and programming were a perfect fit for us as essentially beginners and we have consistently gotten stronger and better with no injuries thanks to the attention and devotion our coaches have to our safety and strength!

I have been coming to Derive for almost two years, and I will genuinely miss this place if I ever move out of the Houston area. I did CrossFit for about a year before moving to Houston, and the quality in programming and instruction is night and day. I knew from my first class that Frank (head coach) spends hours and hours researching, growing, and learning new methods to help his members. The care and attention to detail is evident, and I have not once felt left in the dust when I took longer to grasp something than others. Not only have I grown physically, but Iβve also grown mentally and emotionally as a Derive athlete.

I was very much a CrossFit skeptic due to its poor reputation with injuries. If you share the same concern, I encourage you to visit multiple boxes because coaches and culture can vary greatly. CrossFit Derive wins in both categories.
Frank and Allison are very technique focused and will ensure you are maximizing your potential safely. Frank is an incredibly knowledgeable coach and programs WODs to specifically develop strength and skill based on what he sees as gaps in our technique or in balancing of muscle groups. They are masters at scaling and will ensure each workout fits you no matter your skill level or capability. I am doubtful you will find coaches who are more committed to helping you reach your personal goals.
The culture at Derive could not be more supportive. (It doesn't hurt that there's a good gender balance, so Ladies, come join us! π) Whether you want to just show up and be healthier, work on strength training, or compete, you'll feel welcome at Derive.

I had never done weightlifting before joining Crossfit but Frank was a fantastic coach and taught me everything I need to know. He takes everyone's athletic background (from swimming to gymnastics to football to never having stepped in a gym before) and incorporates that into how he coaches you. I have fallen in love with crossfit and a huge part of that is the atmosphere at the gym. Everyone is so welcoming and I genuinely look forward to working out now.

I've been a member of this gym for two years. I was intimidated by the idea of CrossFit before I joined, but I knew that i would be more motivated to workout if it was a class style workout. I started by joining Foundations, where Frank (coach and owner of the gym) taught us how the basic movements we would need to know. From there, I was able to join the normal classes and just scaled all of the workouts to my abilities. Frank and Allison did a great job of checking in on me and making sure I progressed at the right rate. The coaching cues they give for the workouts really help me understand what I need to focus on for the day. The programming is truly top notch. Even when I travel, I do my best to do the posted workouts as they are well designed and meant to build over time - so you get the most out of it if you stick to it. However the shining star of this gym is the community. The wonderful humans who are a part of this gym are kind, hardworking, and extremely talented - they inspire me so much!!
I highly recommend dropping in, whether it's your first time trying CrossFit or your 1000th, there's something at Derive for everyone!

Crossfit Derive is the workout family I never knew I needed. Joining I was a little apprehensive from generalized assumptions of CrossFit, but let me tell you firsthand, every gym is different! Even if youβve tried CrossFit at another gym, I encourage you to give it another go at Derive. The coaches truly make a difference. Frank and Allison focus on functional fitness and safety during every workout. Donβt get me wrong, the workouts can be challenging and they will push you to work hard. But I have never felt that I was being forced past my limits, as they are quick to correct form and answer any questions about movements.
Another really key factor that led me to this gym is the inclusivity of all fitness levels. It doesnβt matter if youβre just getting into working out or youβve been doing it your whole life, they will work with you to help you achieve your goals. If I havenβt convinced you to just join already, Iβd highly encourage you to at least try a free class (sign up through their website) to see for yourself!

I have been at the gym for around 2 and a half years and I am dreading the day that I have to say goodbye to these amazing people in May if that tells you how great it is!
The coaches at this gym genuinely care about you as a person and want you to see growth in yourself, but also keep your overall health at the forefront. They design perfect workouts to target areas and muscles you forgot you even had. The community that Frank and Allison have created is one of more than a typical gym and is to the point where we are definitely more like a family.
There is enough variety in equipment here to do any and everything you could need for a workout and they are always adding more things to vary the workouts. On top of this they always strive to do additional fun and new ideas like Nutrition courses, gym bingo, weightlifting courses, bring a friend days and so much more.
If you are looking for a new gym that will keep you consistently motivated to feel better overall and make you more than just a gym-goer to the point where you are an actual family member then you NEED to check out CrossFit Derive.

If you are looking to improve your overall fitness, this is the place to go. These coaches can work with athletes at any level. Haven't worked out in 20 years? They can still help you. At a plateau? Been at Crossfit Derive for just over a year now, I travel a lot for work and have quite the t-shirt collection at this point, 30+ on 4 different continents. Even with all of these gyms I have to say Crossfit Derive is one of the best boxβs I have been to, head coach and Co-owner Frank is very knowledgeable and dedicated, along with many of the other coaches. The first thing I look for when I attend a new gym is movement standards and Derive standards are the best I been to in Houston or the surrounding areas.

I cannot say enough good things about CrossFit Derive. Frank and Sam run a tight, professional operation. Each coach spends every class really honing skills and technique. You'll never be asked to throw up weight just to get the movement done or get a PR. Every movement is closely critiqued and no matter how large the class is, each individual receives personalized attention. Frank, especially, treats form like a religion. The two weeks of intro class look awesome, and is something I wish I had when I started Crossfit. Frank is diligent about posting WODs on all social media, including the website, and always notifies members if there is any changes in hours. If you're looking for the perfect place to become a better athlete, CrossFit Derive should be your choice.
