I’ve been going to Diesel for a year and a half. Took a short break for about a month to try a new gym… and it just wasn’t the same. You can’t beat the culture here. My progress literally declined the second I left, and it immediately picked back up once I came back.
The staff are unmatched. Trainers like Josh (even though I’ve never used their services) are always quick to greet you and make you feel at home. The owner, Sam, is outstanding. He's always a pleasure to talk to and actually listens to feedback.
Diesel is more than just a gym. My life has only improved since joining. If you want real results, a community that pushes you to be better, and an environment that feels like family, this is the place.
If you want to make excuses and harass staff… go back to Planet Fitness.

Class act gym - been a member for 3+ years. Location is great, prices are incredibly competitive, and they invest in new equipment and facilities diligently. Recommended to all

I moved to Dallas two years ago not knowing a soul, and Diesel quickly became my sanctuary. I trained with Justin and Marlon—Justin and I focused on classic bodybuilding-style compound lifts, while Marlon worked with me on stretching, muscle manipulation, and physical therapy-style prep that set me up for success.
Every session was the perfect mix of pushing myself as hard as I could while also having real conversations about life. It’s rare to find trainers who not only help you grow physically but also become genuine friends. That’s exactly what makes Diesel special—every single trainer cares deeply about your well-being, your progress, and pushing you in just the right way.
Shoutout to Josh for the way he trains his clients, Grove with his meticulous attention to detail (and that legendary composition notebook), and D, who pours everything into his people. Across the board, Diesel is filled with trainers who are invested, welcoming, and excellent at their craft.
The gym itself is spotless. Sure, the weights and machines have some character—but that’s part of Diesel’s charm. It’s hands down the best gym I’ve ever trained at, in Dallas or even back when I lived in Austin. I’ll miss it terribly as I move back, but I can’t recommend Diesel—and especially their personal training enough.
Will miss all you guys!

Just public service. Went to this gym for a couple years and loved the atmosphere and everyone who worked there. Recently moved and was directed to email to cancel my month-to-month account and did so. Owner recently texted offering me to pay the “outstanding” over $200 that’s since accrued by error and when I explained the situation and they can see I have not set foot in since I cancelled, he said the only way he could “help” is if I made the payment today. Careful who you do business with folks because some owners out here apparently do not operate with integrity and will sure be there to collect your hard earned money for services not rendered.

Do yourself a favor and find another gym. These guys will upcharge and steal from you and refuse to make it right. Had to file a claim with my bank to get my money back.

The way the owner handle business it’s terrible. He stole money I paid for a session I didn’t wanted to receive and decided to cancel due to personal circumstances. No renfund and still want to charge me for gym membership as well. Nothing was signed and it was an informal phone call. I want to make sure everyone know who you will be dealing with if you decide to join. The quality of the gym and their equipment is not worth over $5 per month. They are over charging just for the location. The only reason I joined is because is a block from my place. I don’t want anything to do with this place ever again.

Do NOT do business with this “company”. I paid $400 for a personal trainer. He kept giving me the run around after I tried scheduling multiple sessions. I finally decided to cancel the membership, he told me I signed a contract, and then charger me another $400. I never signed a contract and when I asked to see the contract he stopped responding. Absolutely horrible business.

This is the review I was looking for when I moved to Dallas and was looking for a gym:
If you are someone who likes to do your own thing and lift, this is your gym. No frills, not crowded (even during peak times), and overall your best option.
Yes, some of the equipment is a little bit older but it gets the job done.
If you live in the Uptown area, your other options are Trophy Fitness and LA Fitness. I tried both before committing to Diesel. Trophy is nice, folks are friendly but their Uptown location is small and limited. Doesn’t justify it costing double what Diesel costs. LA Fitness is the best bang for your buck but insanely crowded.
Overall, if you are a guy in your 20s looking for a no frills, good value gym in Uptown where you can go in and get a good lift in, Diesel is your best option.

Literally the worst experience at a gym ive ever had the gym staff constantly harassing and threatening to paying customers that just go for exercise, the trainers were really good people tho 10/10 recommend booking a trainer but maybe convince them to meet you at another gym because the older staff and owner are extremely prejudice against people that aren’t paying for the additional services or fake rules.Imagine having a platform specifically designed for dead-lifts and power cleans, but getting mad when people do just that in the designated area…I would not recommend they have even more rules with half the equipment and just a little bit less than a better quality gym.

The only really thing this place has going for it is the location. In all honesty, The best thing for this gym would be if the owner were to sell it to literally anyone else. The equipment is hilariously outdated, none of it is properly maintained either. The entire place hasn’t had a decent cleaning in about 10 years, and the only thing that’s been upgraded in the last few years is the locker room section of the bathrooms and the sink in the men’s restroom has been clogged for months now lmfao. Buddy should sell the gym, let someone who actually cares take it over to completely start over. At that point, they’d be able to easily charge the members close to double what they’re charging now. If this gym wasn’t located in west village, it’d be a stretch to charge more than $5 per month for this place lmao
I will say though, the personal trainers are some of the greatest people and very knowledgeable about what they do. It’s fr a shame they get little support from buddy (the gym owner) to provide them, and the rest of the members, a respectable and clean gym

Can't beat it for the price! Right in the heart of uptown, this is probably the best price you can get. It has all of the weights you need. Even if you go at prime time, you can always get on a bench, squat rack, or any piece of equipment you need to supplement your workout without waiting.

Favorite Uptown gym, especially for the price and location. Friendly staff, trainers and clients. Has all the equipment you could need, nice renovations happening in the locker room and also purposeful upgrades to equipment to make sure a wide range of options available for any type of work out.

Worst gym in all of uptown. The owner will sue you if you ever leave, and never let you leave without jumping through 20 hoops. Do not trust this gym, and do not ever trust the employees. They are all extremely rude people. Highly suggest going to ANY other gym in Dallas. Will never recommend. Also smells extremely bad

It's a generic gym. There is nothing special about it other than a good location. The equipment is old and the place in general has a feeling of needing a renovation (especially the locker rooms). For 40 bucks a month it's not bad, BUT you also have to pay $200 to sign up. If it was $40 without the $200, I would say this is a good place to work out. With the $200 fee it isn't worth it. Having said that, it's the cheapest in the neighborhood, so if your apartment does not have a good enough gym, this one will do if you plan to stick with it for a while. Otherwise save your $200.

I’m a big supporter of small business, but had a terrible experience with Diesel Fitness. Submitting a review to warn others new to the area- workout at another gym! I’ll keep the complaints short: Overpriced. Dirty. Poorly maintained equipment. Unclear cancelation policies(read the small contractual print; 30 days required to cancel; staff does not verbalize this). Aggressively rude owner- personally texted me to argue when I provided negative feedback about policies. Unprofessional. Business looks to be in bad shape and on downward trajectory. This gym will nickel and dime you- recommend seeking a better local alternative like Trophy Fitness (few blocks away). Several buddies of mine go here and love the facility and staff.

I've worked out at Diesel Fitness a few times and it has everything you want and need from a gym at a very accessible Uptown location. I'm actually writing this review because I was reminded that earlier this year during the infamous power outages, I had no power OR water due to frozen pipes. I called around to see if there was anywhere I could come shower. Even though I was not a member of the gym, the person on the phone was extremely friendly and assured me that there were showers with warm water available for use (at that particular moment). I came right over, paid the drop in fee to work out, and used their facilities. Everyone I spoke to while there were really friendly and made me feel welcome during a humbling week in which I literally felt homeless. I no longer live in uptown, but highly recommend this gym not only for being fully equipped and well kept, but also for being a gym that actually cares about its community.

***BEWARE OF THIS GYM*** It is very poorly ran and is a total "membership scam"! I joined and paid their enrollment fees as well as several months of access. I only used the facility twice; both times, it was very dirty! They don't clean the locker rooms, there are no towels and the staff wreaks of dip and BO. So all in, I've probably paid over $300 for two workouts and now the owner is threatening me with collections claiming I still owe more money! ***BEWARE***.

I used to go to this gym. I sustained a stress fracture in my hip after my personal trainer kept pushing me to keep going even though my hip was "sore". When I told him my doctor said I had a stress fracture, this trainer still had me come in to do upper body work. I did not realize how badly I was injured because a stress fracture often presents as a dull pain or ache. I trusted my trainer to recognize the signs of overuse and to advise me to back off when needed. He was greedy, though. The personal trainer, George, talked me into paying him directly for sessions so he could keep all the money for himself. I paid him in advance for sessions because I felt bad for him. He gave me some sob story about his financial situation (girlfriend demanded he make more money, or else). Afterwards, he never kept his appointments. I never saw him or my money again. When I told the owner of the gym, he asked me to meet with him at a coffee shop to find out what happened. He did everything he could to schmooze me into keeping my membership and to continue paying for personal training sessions. He didn't fire George, just lowered his cut of personal training fees. I never got my money back because I refused to continue my training sessions/membership.
At this gym, all they care about is money. It's been years since I went there, and my hip is still messed up.
Don't ever buy training sessions with them. They only care about money.

I recently started going to the 'Surge' class on Thursdays at 5:30 with Fernando and would high recommend it. Its an hour long and you will work every minute of it. I acquired a membership at this gym to go to the boot-camp. The gym has really old equipment for the price. I was not impressed with the boot-camp. I ended up moving and at their request went through hoops to cancel. Sent a certified letter to cancel. The gym continued to charge my credit card stating it takes 30 days for their system to cancel, then after that they told me it's the contract that would take 30 days to complete? I spoke with Jason who was less than pleasant and did not know what he was talking about. He interrupted me several times and was very rude. I do not recommend going to to this gym. They then charged me an additional fee for canceling. So it's basically 200.00 for canceling. With all the money they rip people off, they should invest in new equipment.

This gym has very frustrating business and accounting practices that truly do not serve the best interests of their members. I signed up here only because the personal trainer I hired rented space from this gym. This was where she was hosting her clients, so I had to sign up. After I stopped sessions with her, I truly forgot I was paying monthly for the membership. Apparently, after months went on (of me paying my membership without setting a foot in the place) I got a new debit card in February 2019, and they were unable to collect my monthly dues.
Fast forward today.
I received a text message from Sam as a “courtesy” to let me know my account will be turned over to collections this week and it will impact my credit score. Sam went on (via text) to provide “proof” of collection calls and emails that were send to me. This list is very long and detailed of calls, VM. However, the year is 2019....the plague of robocalls are endless. Forgive me for not picking up your “E-fit Autodialer” 888 number....When is the last time you called back one of the zillion spam calls you receive a day? I still find any proof of voicemails that were left but for arguments sake, let’s say they were.
Sam got ahold of me in SERIOUSLY two minutes via text to discuss this situation. This could of been resolved so painlessly months ago...couldn’t someone have just reached out like this from the start? I might of even kept the membership.... I really would have just happily given you my new card number, but it’s obviously too much to ask to be contacted directly by the organization I signed my contract with.
What is at fault here are ineffective outsourcing collection methods that create unnecessary confusion and time consuming debacles for your members.
You’re a small local gym. That’s why people love you. Chill out. The New Jersey collection agency you hired is ineffective. CONNECT with your members the right way when there’s an issue. Is that really asking too much of a gym that prides itself on being a small local business? Honestly you would collect more that way. Life is hard enough. Dealing with your gym membership should definitely never get to this point.
Don’t waste your money or time at this place.
* This review will not be amended or rewritten regardless of any future rebuttal or opinions from management/ownership. It is obvious from other reviews it is standard business practice here at Diesel to only be defensive and rigid in times of disagreement which truly speaks volumes of the character and values of this organization.*

This is a really great place to get a work out in, especially if you're serious and someone who moves through their workouts with purpose. The management and staff are great, and they only allow talented trainers on their floor. Sometimes its pretty busy, but the abundance of equipment helps a lot.
Not sure about reviews saying that the equipment stays broken because I've never seen a piece of equipment remain unfixed for more than a day or so before a technician can get to it. This is easily one of the best places to get a workout in in Central Dallas.

Nice, quaint, non-corporate owned gym. They have some great equipment for a total body workout and it's all functional. One drawback I had were the hours of operation. I work in events and they aren't ever a 9-5 so it would prove difficult some weeks trying to get to the gym before/after work. Aside from that, it's a nice place to workout. I only left because I live too far away now.

Most of the equipment is old, broken or has missing pieces. The rowing machine has been broken for over three years.
There are way too many members. I often have to wait and wait and wait for equipment, even in off-peak hours. There is an INSANE amount of personal trainers - more than I have ever seen in any gym anywhere else. Add these trainers and their clients to the already over crowded gym and it is chaos. One of the selfish trainers uses eight or nine different pieces of equipment all at one time, so that means no one else can use them. Considering the size of the gym, that means the majority of the weight machines are being used by him and everyone else has to wait. Then, afterwards that same trainer walks off and leaves all that equipment for someone else to clear up.
I spend a lot of my workout time cleaning up other people's equipment before I can use it - often it is the gym's own trainers who think they are too special to clear up their own equipment.
Most of the trainers spend much of their time playing on their phones and admiring themselves in the mirrors instead of focusing on their clients.
In the free weight area, people are actually bumping into each other because it is too crowded. The music is often way too loud - I have earphones but the gym music is so loud I cannot hear my own music.
I often come home covered in mosquito bites because the gym owners are stupid and leave the doors open !! They don't want to pay for a/c.
Parking is also a nightmare during peak hours, but gets better after 8pm.
I have also seen members bring their dogs into the gym ! I shouldn't have to deal with that.
The older guy on the front desk is really nice but another one of the guys on the front desk (his name may be Jason) is very miserable and unhelpful. He has a little circle of members and trainers who he is nice to, but he is horrible to everyone else. He has a bad attitude and more than once I have heard him loudly making fun of members behind their backs to other members and trainers. Very gossipy. Very unprofessional.
Update Oct 2018 - more and more people are bringing their dogs into the gym - including the people on the desk. It is absolutely ridiculous to have to listen to dogs barking and whining while I work out. On rainy days, the whole gym stinks of wet dog - the smell makes me want to vomit ! One immature, attention-seeking girl ties her dog to different machines as she goes around the gym, so other people are unable to use those machines - it's unbelievably selfish, yet the gym allows her to do it ! The guy on the front desk brings his dog and I've seen him mopping up pee more than once. Seriously, why are clients having to see this ? Why can't people leave their dogs at home ? Some people are allergic to dogs, why should they be forced to deal with dogs at a place they pay to visit ?
I canceled my membership. Diesel Fitness has turned into a disgusting, filthy, smelly pit where I can't relax. I now pay the same price to go to a gym where they behave professionally and respect their clients. No dogs are allowed in my new gym and it is bliss.

They have quite a bit of equipment. Pretty much everything you would need. Plenty of cardio machines. free weights, 3-4 squat racks, free classes and the studio is free to use when classes aren't going on, and they have 2 turf strips in the middle that you can use their weighted sleds on or do plyometrics or other HIIT exercises. Only thing I think they don't have is a seated overhead press.
They have a few parking spots in the garage, but street parking will be your main option.
The application fee is kind of expensive, but if you plan on being there for a while, it's $30 a month, which is a pretty good deal. It doesn't get anywhere near as crowded as Gold's or LA Fitness. I typically go around 6 PM and don't have to wait too long for equipment.

Worst gym ever. Most of the equipment is broken in some way. More than half of the treadmills and ellipticals have something wrong with them such as broken buttons or the ramp won't raise or lower and none of them are accurate on distance. We've been going to Diesel for almost 3 years and none of them have ever been fixed. We thought maybe when they moved to the new location that they might either fix the broken equipment or get new equipment, but no such luck. The new location is cramped and the air conditioning cannot keep up so they just leave the doors open all over the building. That should be really cozy come July and August. The weight training equipment is stacked so close together that people are constantly bumping into each other. The locker room at the new location, while much cleaner than the filthy old location, is tiny. There used to be a steam room at the old location, which was often broken as well, but the new location does not have a steam room. They also did away with the tanning bed which was a part of our membership at the old location. We were only going here because it was cheap and while it is indeed cheap, it is not worth even the price being paid. Spend the extra money and go somewhere else.

Filled with meat heads and valley girls. Or bros and hoes. It's DIRTY, There's roaches, they do not clean the locker rooms. Which are old and neglected, unless you pay extra to use a nicer one.
The trainers sprawl out all over the gym and take over everything. The saunas are gross and not working half the time.
Trying to cancel is an ordeal, you have to write a letter to austin, certified mail. And they won't tell you at the gym whether it was actually canceled and will most likely try to take you for another months dues.
I pay 3 times as much now at Larry north cityplace, but it is soooo worth it. Trust me, don't go there, unless you really can't afford to go somewhere else.

Really good gym! They offer month to month memberships or a 1 year membership, depending on what you want. Cool sauna & steam room, great high energy atmosphere.
