Wanted to get a personal trainer to help keep me accountable and motivated to achieve my goals and after some searching, Jon was that guy. I originally found him through Google, cruised through his reviews and decided to give him a call. That was just about two months ago now and wow are the reviews accurate.
Jon is knowledge and motivating, he follows the direction that I want and pushes me towards the goals that I established when we first met. He is accommodating to my lifestyle as well and can increase or decrease at a moments notice.
I’m down a couple of pounds, a lot more mobile and overall feeling much better about myself both physically and mentally in just these past couple of weeks.

I can’t recommend Jon enough! I came to for a running assessment and guidance on speeding up recovery from a few acute injuries. He took the time to explain everything clearly, demonstrate each exercise, and correct my form along the way. By the end of my first session, I was able to run without hip, knee, or Achilles pain.
Jon also taught me proper lifting techniques and helped me target muscles I didn’t even realize needed attention. Thanks to his expertise, I now have a personalized set of exercises and stretches to strengthen my body and prevent future injuries. Jon provided me with a free assessment after I had been suffering from severe nerve pain caused by a sports injury incurred a couple of months ago. He was incredibly knowledgeable about techniques for easing and relieving the nerve pain. I have gone to a chiropractor recently and have been in physical therapy for 6 weeks, and neither of those resources have helped me as much as Jon did in one session! He’s absolutely amazing!

I've always been skeptical about trainers from several past experiences, but Jon is amazing. Asked about entire athletic/injury history not just what is recent with the last few years and came up with a rehab training that fits and targets everything that's been effected. He's also taken in consideration what I currently do for hobbies and competition and has incorporated exercises that strengthen and support those. Speaking as a massage therapist that focuses on sports therapy, I cannot recommend or praise anyone higher.

I’ve worked with Jon at Empirical fitness for almost 5 years now after meeting him at a weightlifting certification for trainers. I’ve never worked with another trainer that took the time and effort I’ve seen him put into his clients. I’ve spent a considerable portion of my life working in the fitness industry and am a very capable trainer in my own right and I make the choice to get training from Jon because he’s just that good. Jon was amazing for meeting for the first time to access my lower back issues..He went over different exercises to do to help with the back pain. After completely some of the exercises what a difference it made to my back. I was able to do more than when I walked in there. I met Jon through my mom, who has been working with him for over a year now and has seen incredible progress. I've been dealing with on and off lower back pain that has worsened quite a bit in the past month, and Jon was able to provide a quick and thorough evaluation. John has been working with me for about 3 months now. I had several chronic issues that he addressed- tennis elbow, weak ankle from a sprain/jam, psoas and hip pain, lower back pain from a bulging disk, and super tight hips. Sounds too good to be true, but all are fixed or mostly fixed. I am noticeably stronger throughout my body, and also have hip mobility I never thought possible.
John has updated my personalized plan every two weeks. He’s given spot on advice that magically seems to address issues new and old that I bring to our sessions. I’ve been surprised at how much progress I’ve been able to make in healing, strength, and mobility. John’s approach is to provide the right exercises that I only need to do 1 or 2x per week. The full workouts are about an hour long if done well, and he’s given a “warmup” routine for injury prevention that takes about 10 minutes before any activity.
I told him my goals were to shred my 85 mile mountain bike race and to windsurf for life. He helped me heal up and devised a ride plan to meet my first goal. Since then, we’ve focused on strengthening my entire body in support of meeting the second. He’s kept an eye on my calorie intake and my protein/fat/carb balance to maximize my gains.
Before I saw John, I couldn’t squat past 90 degrees. Now, I can slowly go almost to the floor. I can move with confidence my back and ankles are safe, and my grip strength is phenomenal (no elbow pain!). Go see John.

Jon of Empirical Fitness is an amazing trainer and he helped me reach my huge goal of lifting 300lbs/over 200% of my body weight!
I plateaued with deadlift weight for several months without improvement. In the past I was able to easily increase weight with no special effort and was frustrated to be stuck. Jon provided a special program for me that improved my weaknesses, altered my lifting form, and taught me several unique exercises to help me achieve my goal. We set what I thought was an ambitious timeline but I met my goal by my exact target date!
I'm a coach as well so I had lots of questions and push back throughout the program. Jon was patient, talked me through any questions I had, and was very reasonable about making adjustments. Highly recommend!

I started working with Jon just 3 weeks ago to improve my fitness for an upcoming rowing competition, and I'm honestly shocked at the results I'm seeing. He's got my nutrition and workout dialed so that I'm already noticeably stronger and leaner. I was recently told by an orthopedic doctor that the knee pain I'd been experiencing while rowing was likely cartilage damage from a prior injury and there was nothing to be done about it. Jon’s initial assessment identified weakness in my knee, he developed a plan to address it, and I'm already seeing improvement -- quite the unexpected bonus! To top it off, the warmups he has me doing have erased the joint stiffness that I thought was a normal part of being in my mid-50s. Am 3 weeks into working with Jon and already feeling more confident about reaching my goals. I always thought I knew what to do when it came to diet and exercise, however I only had a small piece of the puzzle, along with a lot of misinformation. Through Jon’s guidance over the last year I’ve seen success in weight loss and muscle gain that I hadn’t been able to achieve in over a decade of “planning” on my own.
The workouts have been completely customized to me and adjusted as needed, to safely target the areas I am weakest in. I’ve been working out with Jon at Empirical Fitness in-person twice per week for about 1.5 years and I can confirm that if you’re looking for a trainer that’s an absolute expert at their craft, but also enjoyable to be around and a good listener, then Jon is for you. If you want to modify your program for any reason (like training for a multi-day hike, for example), he’ll take that feedback and customize your workouts based on what you want or where your at on your fitness journey. He understands every facet of both human anatomy and nutrition and can help you understand your body and how to transform it. For example, he convinced me to calorie count and after some resistance (laziness really) I gave in and lost 3 lbs in one week. You won’t regret choosing Jon as your fitness guru. Just do it.

Started with Jon a few weeks ago and it has been a great experience so far. I came to him with a problem in my lower back and a goal physique and he has easily tailored my plan to accommodate both.
Jon is a very intelligent guy. It is always a pleasure to pick his brain to hear the design and thought behind every thing he has you do. The plan is organized such that if you just listen to his instructions and understand the cause and effect of calories to weight change and interior to exterior movements, you’ll be able to make your goals easily. He also adapts the plan if needed to any new found information and goal adjustments.

Jon pours his heart into personal training. I have never met someone with so much knowledge and passion for health and fitness. From the moment you start working with him you know you’re in good hands. He runs a thorough assessment of your strengths and weaknesses regarding mobility, and then determines exactly what exercises will complement each other to yield the best. With Jon, proper form comes above everything else. After an 8 week cycle of his strength programming I was able to return to lifting numbers that I hadn’t been able to hit in years. This time with proper form and with ease, which was my main goal all along. As a bonus, I’ve put on muscle and shaved off fat considerably.
Now Jon has put all his knowledge into his own Empirical Fitness app. I’m currently taking the Senpai Shreddy course and I feel so privileged to have access to what feels like a masterclass of nutrition and exercise programing. Empirical Fitness is great! I met Jon through a mutual group and he often gives great advise. Following what he has told me I have lost 8lbs and look forward to loosing more weight and gaining more muscle. He has helped contextualize weight lifting in a way that has helped me receive the most from my weight lifting. He is often patient and supportive. They even have an app! My experience with Jon and Empirical Fitness has blown me away. I previously worked out on my own and participated in group HIIT classes but wasn't seeing the results I had hoped for. It was important to me to find something with more structure and guidance.
I go to Jon's group fitness classes and do personal training sessions with my husband and in less than 3 months have lost weight and became stronger. I have scoliosis and come from a dance background where weightlifting wasn't a priority and now am lifting more than I thought I could, especially this fast. I've also learned how big of a role nutrition plays in achieving fitness goals but don't feel restricted by a diet or unrealistic expectation.

I have trained with a few trainers in the past that have taken me through workouts and watched my form, but I never really saw true results that lasted and that I was able to maintain. After training with Jon for only a little over a month I have realized what I was missing from my past experiecnes. I’ve known Jon for quite some time, but a recent move allowed me to get access to him in person for the first time as a personal trainer, and I’m incredibly glad to have walked into his gym. In only training with Jon for about 4 weeks or so, we’ve hit some numbers I genuinely did not believe were possible for myself. Empirical Fitness is the best training I’ve ever had. I approached Jon, the owner, about helping me train for the Chicago Marathon. I was recommended Jon by a friend whose known him for years to be a quality instructor who really cares about the science and body and how they work together.
I decided to hire Jon because I was starting to powerlift with my boyfriend who injured his back with his own training by watching YouTube videos and working out too quickly. I was scared to push more weight because I wasn't with a professional who knew what they were doing. I was also scared to hire a trainer because I've heard so many horror stories online about bad trainers who never listened to their students. I was stuck in between a rock and a hard place with my own anxieties around training and the gym in general.
Jon is the real deal. Not only has he listened to my concerns, but truly understands every body is different and some things work for one person while they do not work for another. He's been meticulous with checking in on me weekly, gym sessions when covid started relaxing a little bit, and keeping up to date on my chronic pain issues and discussions on what to change in my workout plan weekly. My boyfriend and I hired him during covid and we set out for personal workouts at home with only bands and sliders and I've felt the best I've felt in years.
I told him different aches and pain points in my body and he started bringing out books on anatomy and asked me to send my x-rays so he could really get a full understanding of my body. I felt completely comfortable with training with him from that moment on and he's always been on the mark with the training we've done.

Last winter I could barely walk and only with lots of pain. My orthopedist told me I did not need my feared hip replacement but all the problems were with soft tissues. I have been going to this gym since it’s opening, and I highly recommend it. The three coaches: John, Josh and Sergio are very knowledgeable and are always willing to help customize your workout program to suit your needs. The classes usually start with strength training (ie deadlift, squat, bench press, etc) followed by a Metabolic Conditioning (Metcon) workout (burpees, box jumps, 400m run, pull ups, kettle bell swings, etc).
