1 Star - Former Sales Employee
My experience working with Equinox Downtown Austin was extremely disappointing. Despite meeting and exceeding expectations in my role as a Membership Advisor, I was never paid the commission I earned — more than 20 sales were missing from my final paycheck. After I left the company, I was locked out of all systems which prevented me from accessing my records, and multiple attempts to get answers were ignored.
The work environment was unprofessional and disorganized. Sales goals were constantly raised to cover staffing shortages, and I was regularly scheduled beyond the hours I originally agreed to. Management communication was inconsistent, unprofessional, and at times inappropriate, contributing to a very uncomfortable workplace.
I’ve since had to file a formal wage claim with the Texas Workforce Commission to resolve the unpaid commissions. My advice: think twice before working here or joining as a member, and document everything.

WARNING! PREDATORY PARKING COMPANY! I went 15 minutes over the 2.5 hour limit and there is no grace period like there was before. If you are in that parking garage over 2.5 hours you WILL get an $80.00 ticket in the mail with threats of sending it to collections if you do not pay within 30 days! And whatever time you hit the parking garage is your start time (photo is taken of your car)- not the time that they give you through the website when you register! SCAM! There are multiple other reviews here pointing out this insane and predatory company. I have contacted Equinox management to push them to do something about this. I will be moving to Lifetime South Lamar or Club Studio (that has a lap pool!) if they don't change something.
They also need to:
- Install lighting for the road coming into the parking lot. It's completely pitch black at night with people, cars and Waymo's all around. Someone is eventually going to get hurt.
- Fix the AC! It crazy to be working out in the heat.
- Rethink the equipment they have moved around. If you are on a machine you are now eyeball to eyeball with someone across from you. It is very uncomfortable. And easily fixed.
- Fix random issues in the locker room that have been reported. It's like there is no maintaince manager like there used to be.
The fees keep going up (an extra $17 a month this year) and the experience keeps getting WORSE. This is a call to Equinox management to focus on your members again and get some of these long running issues dealt with! Otherwise there is going to be a mass exodus when your competition opens up here very shortly.
Also- Google "Parking Revenue Recovery Services". They have 45+ reviews and every single one is a "1 star" review with an complaint! Never seen a business with a flat 1 star average review. Truly stunning.

It’s a nice little gym with a cool view, but the parking is so stupid. They tried sending me to collections, but that’s complete fraud. I always validated my parking

I had such a great introduction to Equinox with Alyssa. She was so genuine and helpful with setting me up with my membership and introducing me to the best personal trainers. I also really enjoy all of the classes at Equinox. The instructors are knowledgeable and friendly and make you feel welcome. I really loved the cycling classes and mat pilates for a good challenge, and the yin yoga and meditation are my favorite classes for recovery. I also love how clean the gym is and the cold eucalyptus towels. The mat classes also provide all the mats and towels and props you could need so it really reduces the amount of stuff I need to cart around.

I loved Equinox when I first joined in May, but quickly saw the cracks in just about everything here. Recently, I was sent to collections for “parking fines” even though we have free 2 hour parking validation in the garage as part of the membership. Apparently, I racked up at least 10 parking tickets in September, brought them in and was told they would waive all of them and not to worry. However, I just received a notice in the mail that I had an account at collections. Absolutely unacceptable. I will be cancelling and joining the new LT on South Lamar when it opens.

Really frustrated by this Equinox. At a baseline it's probably one of the least amenitized facilities across all of the Equinox gyms I have been a member at (NYC, Houston, Dallas) and built to a pretty low standard. Equipment is falling apart (especially in cycling studio) and the HVAC is atrocious. You will get a workout just being there with no proper AC. Salt on the wound is the latest PRRS parking tickets charging $80 fines per day when parking is included in your membership. As if your membership price isn't enough already... After being a member since 2016, this is probably my last straw.

Don’t join this club. It’s too expensive. No pool, no hot tub, just over priced equipment. When I moved 1,000 miles away to a small town with no Equinox, they tried to continue to charge my account until I blocked them. I have 3 emails to them where I asked for them to confirm my cancellation after I had to prove I had moved by providing a utility bill for my new house. The refused to confirm. It’s just not worth the hassle

This gym is clean and nice except subpar weekend/holiday hours. Since they changed their parking system, there are times that their parking system or WiFi is down to validate. Although the parking is covered for gym members, PRRS parking keeps sending me erroneous parking tickets of $80 per day even for less than 1 hour parking which is ridiculous. They do not do anything to it because they can’t confirm on their system.

I came in to start a 7day trial today and Alyssa blew my mind. I never thought I could get "small gym" flexibility attention and care with all of the “big gym" perks. I love Alyssa’s human touch and willingness to accommodate my unusual travel situation. When I sign up it will 100% be thanks to Alyssa’s care. Gorgeous facility and even more extraordinary staff support. Ultra impressed.

I was looking to join a gym or fitness club in Austin, and came cross Equinox on South Congress.
They have clearly invested in bringing in high quality staff and trainers from other locations to up the experience (most of the folks I met had recently transferred in from Dallas, NYC, etc.), because my experience was nothing short of phemonenal.
Alyssa O and her team gave me a warm welcome, a thorough tour of the facilities, intorduced me to many of the trainers, and provided pro tips of how to maximize my potential membership.
I felt really welcomed, was impressed by the facilities and downtown views, and found the vibe to be positive (more of a community and club than a "get in and get out" sort of feel).
Clearly some of the older reviews here were heard and changes were made, as I am not someone too easily impressed and have pretty high expectations - and my experience what nothing short of exceptional.
I am now a member, and will update in ~6 months to give an update, but so far so good!

I love this location! This is the third Equinox I’ve been a member of, and it’s easily one of my favorites. The club is always spotless, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and there’s a huge variety of classes to choose from. Free parking on SoCo is a big bonus. Alyssa helped me get set up and went above and beyond! She took the time to walk me through all the perks of membership, give me a full tour, and answer every question I had (and I had a lot!). Wow , I continue to be so impressed with all the group exercises that they offer at Equinox . The instructors are incredible and the variety and number of classes makes it even more special .
Being retired I especially appreciate the gentle yin yoga classes that are so great for every body . My husband and I took Bea Loves class this morning and feel amazing . Bea’s knowledge and experience is so helpful as she describes the benefits of different poses that targets different parts of our body, including our organs . I also love her heated yin class on Wednesday evenings and a great class on Saturday called the weekend wind down .
Thanks Bea for all you do and thanks Equinox for all the great classes offered .

I’ve enjoyed Equinox at other locations and always felt welcomed and valued, which is why I became a member in the first place. Unfortunately, my experience in Austin has really changed my perspective of the brand.
I was in Austin for job interviews and wanted to check out Equinox as a potential club if I moved to the city. Unlike other locations, I wasn’t even offered a tour. I was told I had to pay $45 just to step inside, and I only stayed 15 minutes.
What I saw wasn’t impressive: unclean towels left in the sauna, limited amenities, and an unwelcoming atmosphere. This was my very first interaction in Austin, and it left a bad taste in my mouth — especially as I was considering Equinox as a central part of my new community.
Instead of trying to make a strong first impression or show hospitality, I felt dismissed and unwelcome. If you’re considering this club, I’d recommend visiting other gyms in the city first.

I recently joined Equinox and wanted to leave a review because of how much I've enjoyed the gym. Clean, friendly, and a ton of different classes to choose from. Serdar is my personal trainer, and he does an amazing job of challenging me from a positive and solution-focused mindset. Compassionate, but he always puts me to WORK. He works collaboratively to help me plant seeds for lifelong habits
The gym itself: Top notch accommodations, impeccable environment, and the overall culture feels safe and welcoming (a surprise given that it is such a high-end business). I have never in my life felt this excited or motivated to work out at a gym and plan to be a member as long as possible! Cheers, Equinox!

After further review, I wouldn’t step a foot on this premise unless your corporation is really giving you a deal. $250? I’m sorry a gym is supposed to have community and have some flavor/grit. Go to onnit, lift atx, even gold’s DT or squatch fitness. Lifetime is 10x better if you want corporate because it actually has amenities. I literally dodged a bullet even applying to work at this gym investigating the reviews. Imagine the movie the mummy where scarabs crawl into your skin and that skin is actually your bank account. Good luck canceling here. Read all those one star reviews. This gym isn’t Austin… it’s a New York and Cali dumpster fire yet they can’t seem to keep it clean. Humbug!

I’ve been a member since 2019 and the gym has steadily declined. The ac in both the fitness studio and the yoga studio has been broken for over a month now, the chilled towel cooler is broken along with on average 4-5 treadmills that are out of order, along with other cardio equipment. For being one of the priciest gyms, with the smallest size and fewest amenities(no sauna, cold plunge, etc) they need to fix their equipment, ac etc I’m
Most likely leaving the gym this month due to all the maintenance issues.

Great gym and great staff, my experience while attending was awesome. But OH MY GOD do they make it impossible for you to cancel. I would consider your level of commitment before signing up, it took me 3 whole months to successfully cancel the membership. Communication is poor from management and they clearly do it on purpose, Id love a refund but I doubt it. Much better gyms out there with more ethical practices, would never sign up again

Been going here for about 4 years. Three members of my family and 2 of my best friends are founding members. All of us have expressed concerns between each other about the way they manage cleaning in this place. Today I decided to express my concerns to a cleaner about how they should try and avoid cleaning in areas where people work out. Should stop spraying chlorine or other cleaning chemicals and vacuum while people are still working out. In addition to the fact that it’s unethical and unprofessional, it’s also dangerous health wise as the immune system is not at its best when you’re working out. Also, people may have all sort of medical conditions that may be affected by this routine.
I asked the staff member politely to stop doing that around me and his answer was that i could go and use a bench on the other side and i was the first one to bring that up. I said this isn’t a concern that i just made up now - my friends as well have brought this up. His answer was “Which friend?!” “What’s his name?” I was speechless by that approach.
Then he called the cleaning manager. She approached me in a very rude and aggressive manner. First thing she said was “don’t talk to my staff” without even assessing the situation. I got very disappointed. I explained the situation again and she denied spraying cleaning elements during workout hours. She challenged me to show her. I said we pay too much to be impeded and risk our health while working out. We could go anywhere but have chosen to come here because we expect a certain standard. Then she abruptly said if you have complaints- talk to the GM. She asked for my name and number and then left and told the cleaner “go and clean away from him”.
I am very disappointed by the way they talked to a customer in the first place. But i genuinely think
they really didn’t understand my concerns. Unreal experience!

Walked in to ask about a day pass since I’m new to the area — and immediately regretted it. The woman at the front desk acted like I was bothering her just by existing. She gave me attitude from the start, and halfway through our short (and painfully awkward) conversation, she literally pretended to make a phone call to avoid talking to me. The arrogance was insane — like I was speaking to the Queen of England. Absolutely no interest in making people feel welcome. No way I’m ever coming back. Avoid this place unless you enjoy being treated like garbage.

I used this Gym while I was in Austin for a month from Mid February to Mid March 2025. I am a member in Toronto so was able to use the gym for the short term. I thought the gym was fantastic. Roman, the manager was so friendly and helpful during our stay. My husband and I both trained with Johnny and he is a great trainer. I highly recommend him. All the other staff were excellent from the front desk to all the trainers. Yes it would be great if they had a sauna and that does not effect the excellent rating this club deserves. Thanks again for the great month:)

I’ve been to at least 15 clubs between NYC, LA, SF, Dallas and Austin and this location blows them all out of the water. Friendliest staff, giant windows with wrap around natural light and leafy views, super clean equipment, & bathrooms / locker rooms.
When I’m back in New York I actively miss my Austin gym time.
Parking does get pretty expensive if you stay more than 2.5 hours but aside from that I’ve never experienced anything I saw in the low rated reviews. The maintenance staff is so friendly and on top of everything. I’ve never once seen the towels run low or found anything even slightly grimy.
The trainers go out of their way to introduce them selves, and I’m sure it’s a sales tactic to an extent but I’ve never felt pressured into booking anything - more just “I’m here if you need anything” and always a wave that makes you feel at home.
Hopefully this review boosts the rating a little because 3 stars is a joke for such a nice gym.

A Gold’s Gym with expensive tile. They market themselves as a “luxury” experience but there is nothing luxurious about it except the premium price. The toiletries in the locker room are garbage that will give you a rash, the men’s steam more often than not is out of service, not enough equipment and only open until 6 on the weekends. I can’t wait for the new Lifetime to open up closer to me so I can an finally give up my membership.

I love this gym in the heart of Austin, on Congress Ave. The gym is clean and vibey, the changing room feels like a spa, the classes challenged me in a very good way, and bonus: the steam room in unmatched (seriously the best steam room in Austin).
The staff were always friendly to me, and I enjoyed the ambience and thoughtful lighting of the f gym (most gyms have way too bright of lighting).
They validate parking, which is nice if I want to check out some of South Congress without paying ridiculous parking fees.

11/9/24. And they just get more despicable. I disputed the charge, they lied and said continuing to charge me was well within their right. Jokes on them, I have the proof. Avoid the place, you will get screwed. I'd like to say it stinks that this happened because the trainers/teachers were great, this is a management issue!
9/16/24 update. Called my bank and there is no record of them trying to refund me. At this point I have no other recourse than to dispute the charge with VISA. Sad that this all could have been avoided had they simply canceled it like they said they would. Watch up for this place.
9/9/2024 update. On two weeks and still no refund even though I was promised one in 5-7 business days. It's lies after lies. It's deflection after deflection and zero responsibility as to this even happening in the first place. Do not go here.
I hate writing this review because my daughter actually really liked it and was treated nicely, but like others, canceling was completely unprofessionally handled.
My daughter went off to college, which I told them she was doing before we agreed to a 3 month membership, and they said just provide proof of her housing. I provided proof of her housing when it was time to cancel, but they said that wasn't enough since it didn't have her exact address on it. Note, it was a template email with her name and move-in date so it was very clear she was moving. Then I provided something else and that wasn't enough. I finally had to call the school and ask them for letterhead with her name, etc. It was ridiculous the hoops I had to jump through. I feel it was a stall tactic to get another month.
After all of this Donovan assured me all was well and it was canceled that day, and I would get no August bill. I even had the email proving he said it. Well, I looked at my CC this month and guess what, I was charged. I called the front desk and was told her account was not actually canceled but placed on a hold thus the reason for the charge.
I emailed Donovan right away, and he claims I will get a refund asap. I do not believe he ever actually canceled and this was on purpose. We shall see if I actually get the refund without having to go to corporate. This practice is unprofessional and just makes me assured I will never spend another dime there because I can't trust the process. I even had to cancel my CC since I don't believe it won't happen again.
That being said, it stinks because my daughter really did like it there and wanted to go again during summer breaks.

Equinox is a nice gym. They have most of the equipment you'd expect from a typical gym albeit missing some of the comforts you'd expect of a luxury gym. Steam room only, no sauna. Nice classes, no pool, no spa. Understandable due to its tight and small location downtown. They made it work. It's worth noting for the past two years they've periodically closed their bathrooms for maintenance due to water leaks in the showers and bathrooms that fill the wall cavities. This continues to leave the steam rooms and bathrooms closed, especially when it is that you decide to want to use them...
I signed up because it was a stones throw from my condo but have since moved and built a home gym. Now I'm upset because they've made it impossible to cancel. It's a joke and they require you to either cancel by certified mail, or by sending an email (hint it doesn't go through) Now I have to resort to other means to cancel my membership. This is illegal. (section 5 FTC, texas health spa regulations) but no one has the time or patience to fix this. My best bet is to warn you:
Only sign up for equinox if you want to be a lifetime member without cancellation at a low-tier under-featured austin equinox location.

As a new member of Equinox Gym Austin, I've had a positive experience at this facility. The facility and staff here are on par with the other Equinox gyms I've been to (shout out to Christina G. Sales Manager). I love the classes - the variety offered is fantastic; I've tried a few and have enjoyed the energy and motivation that come from working out with others. After a good workout, it's always a treat to use the amenities Equinox is known for. However, I've come across a few reviews that seem to contradict my own experience at Equinox. Some mention issues with cleanliness or service, which is surprising given the high standards I've observed. It's possible that those negative experiences were isolated incidents, but I can only speak to what I've encountered during my visits. Based on my experience, I highly recommend this gym. Either this or Lifetime.

How long does it take to fix the sink in the only bathroom on the third level? They have had the single bathroom closed for weeks because the sink does not work. The management of this location is truly incompetent.

Ok. I’m an Equinox member at another location and am completely sold on the brand. That being said, I have to leave a review of my experience at Equinox Austin.
I came into town on vacation and decided to go to Equinox to keep my workouts rolling. At first glance, it was amazing. I love how bright and big it is, how the lockers have codes and how friendly the staff is.
However, there are many reasons why this Equinox rates 3.1 on Google.
1. Worn down equipment: I was shocked when I saw some of the leather peeling off of some machines, as well as the hip thrust machine seatbelt all ripped up. For $200 a month, you’d think they’d replace things more often.
2. Dirty warm up areas. I understand this location is extremely crowded, but for both days I went, there was sand off of someone’s shoes on the floor, and overall it didn’t look clean. The shower had an used razor (which i blame on whoever used the shower prior to me but still).
3. Crowded. I went at 2:30 pm the first time: crowded. I went back the next day at 9:30 am and it was even more crowded. I guess Equinox has to take the hint and open another location in Austin!! There’s too much demand!
Overall, if I weren’t a member at a different location and had just signed up, i’d be VERY annoyed at the year-long contract I’d signed. Honestly, open a second and third location here. There’s is enough to go around where I live and all Equinoxes thrive because then they can deliver the superb service they promise.

The staff at this gym are highly unprofessional. Trying to cancel my membership was an absolute nightmare. I attempted to cancel multiple times, but they kept giving me the runaround. I called months early before my account renewed and was told to wait until August and call back later. August comes around, I called and they informed me that cancellations couldn’t be handled over the phone and that I had to come in person. So, I went in, only to be told that I needed to cancel online via an email link they would send. The link they provided had the wrong end date, so I had to call again. I was promised a call back from a manager the same day, but no call came. The next day, I reached the manager only after calling again and was met with indifference when I reminded him that he was suppose to call me yesterday. My account was eventually cancelled, and I was told I would receive credit in a couple of weeks. Today, I called again due to not hearing about the credit and was told the manager wasn’t available, which is typical. I was then directed to another manager, who started asking me questions through the front desk staff instead of handling my request directly. When I asked if these questions were coming from the manager, she confirmed they were, and I could hear her repeating my answers to him. The level of unprofessionalism from the management is truly unacceptable, especially for the amount of money they charge to be a part of this gym. I would give them negative stars if I could.

I am glad I checked out this location. Some of these reviews are quite the stretch, to having 0 basis in reality. From the moment I walked in I was greeted sincerely and warmly from the front desk associate, and was asked what I’m looking for in my next gym membership from the membership director. This location delivered on all fronts. I also noticed there was cleaning staff - on hand the entire duration of the day ( I came twice today just to see the space at different hours ). Not overly packed - clean - and a great atmosphere with plenty of equipment.
Please take the time to consider some of the complaints below - a lot of them have nothing to do with the space and staff - and that’s unfortunate. No Equinox does not cost the same as a planet fitness, but it’s also not the most expensive in town either. It’s actually a phenomenal value if you want a clean, uplifting gym with plenty of equipment and classes.
To add further - I asked what has been done to address the feedback posted here and they have brought in new management who’s been with the company in New York for the last 15 years, and knows the brands standards. Equipment and locker room, steam room are in excellent shape.
Don’t miss out on this location.

I got my first Equinox membership in New York in 1999. Since then I have been an off and on member for 25 years. I was a pre-construction member in the Houston location, and most recently had my home club as Austin. This will be the last year I will have a membership at any club. I am not on a "budget", but the monthly price is out of control for what you get. The vibe, music, and employees at almost every location are bottom of the barrel. If you are a straight and single guy, don't expect to see let alone meet any single women, they all work out at lifetime. If you are LGBTQABCFU, then this is your place. Have fun.

General service/management is disappointing for the price. Management can be hard to reach and getting something like a simple workout band can take up to 20 minutes. Instructors/trainers and classes are world class. The cleaning staff is really friendly and helpful. The facility is beautiful but the size of the gym is tiny and just having a steam room is not worth the price. Overall, I had to leave the gym because there are other gyms in the area that offer much more for a lower price. This is more of a social club and would be great for someone who wants to focus on getting personaly trained or group classes.

EDIT: Since i cancelled despite Equinox telling me I wasnt allowed to cancel, Equinox has sent my unpaid membership fees to collection in an attempt to ruin my credit and strongarm me into paying for a gym that i dont want to use. NEVER SIGN UP FOR EQUINOX. What a group of scammers! Well, my 800 credit score remains strong, and Equinox will never get another dollar from me.
WAY overpriced, crowded, lacking customer service, and dirty! then when i tried to cancel they pull out fine print saying i cant cancel in middle of the year. well, my bank and i disagree. never again will i give equinox a chance.

For context, I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve written a review. This place pissed me off so much that I’m adding one to the list.
Came in with my girlfriend to check out the gym because we didn’t want to believe the reviews that showed 3.1 stars. We’ve been to almost all of the major studios and gyms in Austin, and this was by far the worst bang for your buck.
Normal rate is $235, corporate rate is $215, and student is $210. You’re better off just going to Lifetime or if you want a combination of gym + class then do Gold’s and ClassPass.
They wouldn’t even let us try the gym for the day. They were so set on giving us the sales pitch the way they are taught that they lost sight of what their customers wanted and were asking. On top of that, the gym wasn’t that clean; it was crowded, and limited equipment. Their “business/wfh” section is also a joke. A bench and a couple of chairs. Not to mention the general pretentious attitude of the employees and coaches.
If my only impact in this world is to save someone from signing up for Equinox then I’ll die a happy man.
A bit dramatic there, but seriously people this gym is not worth it lol and if you don’t believe me check it out for yourself!

I’ve been a long time equinox member (10+ years) and have seen the company grow into growing areas, like here in Austin! The membership I have allows me to visit around the country and I’ve had the pleasure of visiting multiple states and dozens of equinox clubs. I was visiting Austin for work in April and one of the best parts of my trip was having access here, this is why…
The Austin club has stood out as one of my favorites and I can’t wait to visit again!! The south congress location is next to SoHo house (another must have membership with multi-city privileges) and many trendy restaurants and fun places to walk around to plus a very chill outdoor patio perfect for remote computer work.
The facilities were incredibly clean, which is very typical for equinox clubs… and something the brand prides themselves on, so they get A++ here! No shame admitting I was able to spare packing my shower & body care amenities bc all of their clubs are fully stocked with luxury brand face wash, moisturizer, body wash, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner… so I literally just worked out and showered there every day and that made my traveling life so easy😇 Love that they have a great steam room here too, be sure to grab the cold eucalyptus towels on your way in!
Also the instructors and trainers here are legit!!! The ENERGY in Audreysha’s class is addictive🤩 She’s a top company instructor and this clubs group fitness manager. She has won company awards for being a baddie, so I am dead serious when I say this was such a treat to have her as an instructor and a highlight of my Austin visit🥰 10/10 recommend trying her class.
Eyed some seriously challenging but fun looking privates going on that made me want to book a few privates next time I’m in town, and this club is so spread out with multiple floors so even when it was “busy” it didn’t feel overcrowded.
Also I was a super super fan of the Matcha Mama cafe they have at this club, which had some seriously delicious and good for you smoothies, crave-able avocado toast and they were even offering single serve LivOn Labs Acetyl Carnitine supplements… so my workout game was on point🥹
After I visited, I glanced at some of these poor reviews and wonder about the authenticity🤔 This was an easy 5/5 stars but I’d give them more if I could🖤

Joining this gym was truly one of the best decisions I've made for myself. I scheduled my tour with Ale Perez. She took time to understand what my goals are, helped me envision the member experience at Equinox, and connected me with the personal trainer she felt I would most align with, Madiha Ali.
Madiha is the best personal trainer I've ever worked with and would highly recommend her to women who are looking to build muscle in a holistic, balanced way.
Both Ale and Madiha have helped me form a stronger version of myself and helped me build community in this gym, which has been so important for me as someone who is relatively new to Austin. Equinox truly has been my best gym experience so far.

I have been an EQ member since 2012. This is the dirtiest equinox I have ever been to. Floors on the main floors had plenty of human/animal hairs and lint scattered all over. Men’s bathroom showers were filthy, and the dumbbell weight racks had plenty of debris visibility present on the surface🤢. The reason I joined Equinox is because of the cleanliness they provide at their facilities. The manager of the Austin TX establishment doesn’t seem to know what the policy of sanitation the gym prides itself on. Hopefully when I come back to Austin TX the gym will be cleaned and sanitized more often. Homogeny of the chain should be persistent within its multiple locations.

I fully understand why this club is rated so poorly. The communication here is nonexistent. First I emailed them to get set up with a personal trainer - no reply. I had to go through the app & was set up with a man which is why I wanted to contact someone directly. I wanted to choose exactly who I got set up with - which did not happen. Then when I went to cancel the membership it took me calling FOUR TIMES on various days to finally be connected with a manager to cancel. The front desk staff just kept saying - oh we’ll put it in the notes & someone will get back to you within 24-48 hours. This did not happen - repeatedly. This is supposed to be a top tier gym. Why did I pay $200+ a month for this kind of customer service? Ridiculous

I was in town visiting and Jeff, the Assistant GM, was so hospitable and really helped me get my bearing on the facility. I loved my hot yoga class and enjoyed my time overall. As an all access member based in SF and formally LA, I was a little disappointed on the facility itself being the smallest I’ve ever visited, considering it was newer too (and everything being “bigger” in TX). Centrally located, and not as many people on their phones while using the equipment as there was on my Houston visit. 😉 Jeff made my visit the best. Hospitality goes a long way and he was 5 star. Thank you.

I've been a member here for most of 2023 until now, and it is my happy place. I was an Equinox member in NYC for years so I had high expectations ... and they were met. I am frankly shocked by the low-star reviews here—I get that every person's interaction is valid, but I have experienced ZERO of what people are complaining about (has the steam room been closed from time to time? yes, but it's not a dealbreaker, come on people!). I RAVE about the club and trainers to everyone in my circle. Where to start? The space is airy and bright and clean. The staff is personable, from the shop tenders to the front desk to maintenance to managers. They go above and beyond, they remember my name, they smile, even when they probably don't feel like it (we all have down days). The trainers are, bar none, the best. The club and my trainers have enhanced my life so much.

Not worth the price (which they just increased again). I don’t know how Equinox can justify the rate when they don’t have a pool.
The showers and steam room are frequently out of service, staff rarely restocks toiletries in the bathroom, and it seems the studios are only mopped not vacuumed because there is dust and dirt consistently on the floors and mats.
Inhospitable front of the house staff. 95% of the time you ask for something they say they cannot help you, and to email concierge. So operatively, what is the point of having 2-3 people at the front desk?
My review is 2 stars rather than 1 because the quality of the classes and trainers are very good.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I workout at equinox Hollywood which is amazing came to Austin to visit family. I was given a one day guest pass which works at any club. I was scanned in. And in a middle of a workout the assistant manager confronts me and tells me I’m not allowed to workout here without paying the $50 day pass. I informed him the guest pass does not have any restrictions. He told me to grab my things, was extremely rude and escorted me out mid workout informing me that without paying for the day pass I would not be allowed to continue to workout
This is unacceptable I can’t imagine any fitness club treated there members this way. Let alone equinox. The low stars now make sense.
Again just to reintegrate. I was already scanned in and in the middle of a workout when I was asked to leave. Which is shocking

This was pretty low on my list of all the equinox’s I’ve been to across the U.S.- for two reasons:
1. The size
2. The equipment availability
1. Isn’t everything supposed to be bigger in Texas? This location feels very small. It’s two floors, the first dedicated to personal training/functional fitness and the second is the main cardio and strength floor. It was so crowded at 930am on Tuesday and Wednesday and the size made it feel small.
2. Only one tower and one skiierg in the entire gym. No kettlebells on the main floor! Only one small dumbbell tree on the functional floor.
The smoothie bar is great and the gym was incredibly clean. Shoutout to the cleaning crew for real!

It’s just not that great of value.
I’m not here to mention they don’t have saunas or cold plunges like other local gyms. Nor, that the payment commitment is for a whole year whether you stay in town or travel; or even if you like the place.
It is that for the premium you pay you get little of the expected amenities and customer support you would expect from a premium gym.
The gym’s relative quality doesn’t match the price. The only redeeming factor is there are less people, mainly because most are priced out.

I’ve been going for the past year. It’s a small upgrade compared to my buildings gym. I’ve only been going because my office is down the street.
- steam rooms are always under construction
- way too small
- hours suck, just have the same hours everyday
- showers have been under construction
- certain staff can be rude
- way too many people for the gym
- 3 floors is a joke with the bottom floor being a waste and the 2nd is all functional fitness for trainers
- locker rooms are cramped
- parking is awful
- big preference for classes with not enough gym space
They should move to a different location down the street or find a place where they can be 3x the size. By far the smallest “gym” I have been to in all of my travels with the least amount of amenities. My gf canceled after going for a few weeks and opted for just our buildings gym.
I’m probably going to continue to go just because it’s close to where I live and my office but what a nightmare.

After going to Equinox for the last 12 months
Pros: Spin and yoga classes
Cons: Where do I start..
- about 30-40% of the time the steam room was down
- for about 4-6 months, around some/half the showers were under closed for maintenance
- Far too often, they don't have shower towels. Last night ( 11/6/2023) at 7:30, there were no shower towels, zero.. People had been waiting..
- Lack of room/machines.. This gym is incredibly small compared to Lifetime (for the same price).
- Parking is a nightmare, too often you'll have to wait 5+ minutes to just get out of the garage, and good luck dodging the traffic going in/out of the parking garage.
- Hours especially on Sat/Sunday, closing at 6 is crazy, and they've been closing the steam room (when it's not closed) earlier and earlier.
- If they tell you that you can get out of the contract early, not happening. You have to move 25 miles away from the gym to do that.
Comparing this gym to others, it might be worth $100-$125/month at very max, not a penny more.

Management is very rude. I was in equinox for under a minute and had a terrible experience. I was asking the front desk staff for assistance in trying out the gym, she said its impossible and they dont do day passes. I then proceeded to ask if she does anything to offer a day pass, and she said “I don’t do anything” which was very apparent with her terrible attitude. She then said “maybe you could try Lifetime” and I said “do you think they offer a day pass” and she said “I don’t think anything, you can call them yourself.” Overall, this altercation was terrible. She didn’t offer me a membership, she didn’t offer to give me a tour, didn’t offer ANYTHING. I don’t remember her name, but she has huge Botox lips busted on the top, you can’t miss it :). The amenities do not even marginally reflect the monthly costs and the management is practically non-existent. I am not sure whether there even is an actual manager or supervisor. If you attempt to get in touch with someone to discuss an issue, expect to be either ignored or transferred multiple times to different representatives. Additionally, the sheer amount of upselling they attempt is so ridiculous it’s almost laughable. The free Equifit assessment is nothing more than a marketing ploy to convince you that you need a multi-thousand dollar personal training plan as a cherry on top of your $200+/month membership. The staff at the front desk are very nice though. If my monthly dues went to tipping them instead, I wouldn’t feel as bad about spending so much for so little in return.
The copy/paste responses to their Google reviews also heavily reflect how little they care about their quality of service and communication. So long as you’re locked in for a year’s worth of payments, they don’t care how you perceive them.

Bait and switch tactics from step one. They’ll say anything they can to get you in the door, but it goes downhill from there. I called ahead to get a window of when I could take a look — to find out out after driving 40 minutes that it wasn’t actually the case.
Even worse, you’ll have to hear it from condescending service at the front desk who refuses to help, provide a solution, or take any responsibility despite this being Equinox’s fault. What a way to start a relationship with a customer.

I would not sign up for a membership unless you are 100% confident you will not have to move or have any medical complication in the next year. This company has little to no respect for their member’s life situations. I have been a member for 10 months but recently had complications that bar me from continuing my membership. I do not live close to the location where I signed up anymore, but since I am now less than 25 miles from a different location I cannot cancel for geographic reasons. Additionally, I cannot work out normally due to a damaged labrum (this has been an issue since starting my membership, but has more recently been exasperated due to frequent dislocations), however unless I go to a doctor and receive medical treatment the concierge service refuses to believe my situation. I also don’t understand the requirement to disclose my detailed medical information to a gym. There is no implication when signing up that leaving their organization would be so difficult with valid reasoning. I am disappointed I now have to deal with this complication on top of everything else.

I’ve worked out at most equinoxes in the country and this one by far has the most problems. Showers always broken. Water fountain has no pressure. There was no smoothie operator for over a year. Amazing location, but all in all, the gym is not good.

TLDR; terrible management, showers and steam room are ALWAYS broken (among other things in the gym), membership increases each year without any notification. The only benefit is having validated parking in a prime location on South Congress.
I was a member for two years before deciding to end my membership. I was back and forth between emails and phone calls with Equinox because I was being charged over my membership agreement, and never seemed to get a straight answer as to why. I was also upgraded to All Access by Todd (the General Manager) without signing any agreement.
Showers and steam rooms are ALWAYS out of order. Good luck with the Texas heat.
The positives: validated parking so you can spend 2 hours on South Congress doing other things + the front desk staff are always putting a smile on my face despite their general manager being the opposite.
For ~$200/month, I expect more from a high-end gym.

Visiting Austin and was able to use all access membership to visit this Equinox. It gets the job done. Clean, modern space.. not MASSIVE but has couple floors
One floor with minimal strength equipment and mostly cardio machines (and stretching area).. the other floor with group fitness studios and all strength space (also another stretching area)
Steam room was under construction, locker room was clean
Staff are friendly.. cafe serving up smoothies and coffee too
Btw if you’re a health nut, maybe worth asking about what kind of peanut butter the cafe uses.. got a choco peanut butter protein shake and the peanut butter wasn’t .. ideal.. reminded me of Jiffy.. which means likely full of preservatives, chemicals, sunflower oil and salt

Overall a great experience. On the maintenance staff - the guy in the hat is always hustling and polite, but the hispanic woman with the leg tattoo they hired within the past few months is extremely rude to customers!

Equinox is an absolutely deceitful business. I froze my account in August of 2022. Called and cancelled in December 2022. However, I have been charge full membership and a locker fee (Which I released in August 2022) up until Feb of 2023. I have been in contact with the club on a monthly basis, as well as, Equinox Concierge three times - to whom they refer you. Be warned - if you call the club - you will be relegated to only speaking with the front desk staff. The response I am continually provided is this: We have had so many changes in management -XZY will contact to. I have an email trail from March 12th 2023 where I was instructed that the refunds would be handled. Over thirty days later- the refunds are still unprocessed. Eight months and there is no resolution and Equinox Austin and management have not followed through.

Hands-down one of the best Equinox experiences I’ve ever had. The facility was sparkling clean, all the machines were working as designed, no parts or weights missing. There’s space to breathe, focus, and exercise. The views of Austin’s skyline are the cherry on the cake. Our NYC Equinox managers should be taking trips and learning from this location. 12 out of 10 recommend.

It’s 6:45 on a Sunday and I can’t use the gym I pay $250 a month for. Cool spot but it’s not worth the money considering the hours, type of equipment and the amount of equipment. I’d expect more than 3 benches and squat racks for this amount of money.

Equinox is the best gym in Austin. The staff are friendly, the classes are incredible, the facility and equipment is top notch, and the amenities make it feel like a spa experience.
When I joined one of my immediate questions were about parking, and I can say after being a member for 6 months I've never once had an issue. I come in the early mornings usually (but sometimes midday or evenings), and again, never had a problem finding a spot.
Another was about the cost. It's worth it if you go, so go. I take a spin class everyday and would be paying 2x to 3x more for these quality of classes (they're just as good as Soul Cycle), so I have no issue with the cost.
They also have laundry and locker service! One thing that really surprised me too was they actually fold your clothes, it's not just stuffed into a clean laundry bag, which I thought was a nice way to elevate what the service.
Another thing to add is I don't look the equinox type; I'm a big guy and approaching 40 haha. I've never felt unwelcome or not allowed or looked down upon there. In fact, I've felt the opposite: welcomed, championed, and supported. Seriously, they're the best.
Overall, I can't recommend Equinox enough. Between the staff, amenities, facilities/equipment, and classes, it's the best gym I've ever been a part of.

unfriendly staff ,crammed lounge/work areas in corners near elevators, overall outdated decor, tiny lockers,no private changing bays, terrible parking garage, tiny workout floors, only 4 sinks in entire womens locker room ( same sinks for use after restroom and overall locker room use), didn’t see any water fountains, products in shower half filled, frumpy yet pretentious employees and members, not enough towel bins, no courts, no pools, limited vain focused classes. so glad I have a lifetime gym membership where there are pools ,hot tubs ,clean towels , separate restroom stalls and sinks in locker room , a steam room and sauna in mens and women’s locker rooms , friendly staff, a large healthy cafe, a variety of classes including self defense , heated yoga, cycling, pilates, swim classes, barre , hiit ,raquetball , pickleball , basketball courts, a spa, restrooms on fitness floor, stretching area, a rockwall. I really do not understand why anyone looking for a luxury gym would ever consider Equinox where there is no focus on fitness whatsoever.

Updating my review and decided to cancel. This gym has some incredible trainers and class instructors but got to a point where the amenities started to suffer. Half the showers were down for 4+ months (now fixed with only one broken), clogged showers where you stand ankle deep in water, steam room is intermittently broken, during peak hours dirty towels are left throughout locker room and steam room, etc. if you are looking into this gym I recommend coming between 5-7pm to decide if it is worth your money.

I love working out at equinox - sure, there could be improvements here and there but no place can be perfect. I work next door and above all else the
convenience is worth it to me. However, as of recently, the men’s shower situation is quite honestly… embarrassing. A couple weeks ago half of them were closed for multiple weeks because they were “out of order”. This caused long lines in the morning to use the showers. Not only that, but the renovations caused the steam room to close, a huge reason / benefit that brings me into the gym day after day. After they all were quote “fixed” I noticed they had somehow gotten worse? On multiple showers the contractor installed the doors on wrong so the handle hits the wall mounted soap holder, so the door remains cracked open. On others the plastic guard on the wall meant to catch the door is missing or falling off so the door swings in farther, making the doors remain cracked as well. The paint on the hardware is also actively chipping off. How can a “luxury gym” that just underwent renovations make things worse? It’s a small detail, but one that is annoying nonetheless. I expect more for the price point I am paying. I’m not sure what caused them to be out of order originally… but they certainly didn’t get better.

If you’re thinking about getting a membership here don’t. I’ve had several issues during my time here and always brought it up with the front desk and was told management would reach out to me… no one ever did.
I am convinced at this point that there actually isn’t a management team in place.
The amenities are non existent. The steam room is always down for maintenance several times a month as well as the showers.
The shampoo, conditioner, body and face wash bottles in the shower are 90% of the time empty.
There is also never any toilet paper in the restroom stalls. Given the amount we pay as customers you’d think the amenities would works and we would have what I stated above at all times.
I also had cancelled my membership and the rep on the phone confirmed it was all taken care of and nothing on my end was needed. The following month I got charged which makes me think no one actually processed my request. (Hasn’t been the first time I’ve called and nothing gets done)
Allegedly there was a change in management and it would get better but Todd hasn’t done anything to show improvement (doesn’t communicate with members) and clearly isnt taking care of any issues.
I am sure the other locations don’t have these issues but if you’re full time in Austin save your time and money and go somewhere else.

First, in the men’s lockers there are only 4 working showers out of nine. I’ve lived in Austin for 6 months and there have never been more than 4 working showers. I have been a member of equinox for over a decade, and this would not be a location I would ever recommend.
Update: All the showers are working, but there is still something slightly off with this Equinox when compared to other I have patronized. But I added a star because there is some improvement.

Mediocre facility, not worth the price. For a "luxury fitness" establishment the staff are poorly trained, maintenance is terrible (treadmills out of service for weeks) and personal training is expensive and poor. They also removed the hand sanitizer from the floors for no good reason.
Update 1/2023: agree with many of the reviews that have been written since. Some aspects have improved, including staff training and maintenance of equipment. But cleaning remains a problem. This week when the “Equinox Execs” were visiting they had a team of 6 people going around mopping the floors and stairs and mats (something I’ve never seen them do before). The place looked impeccable. Shame they can’t do that for their members normally, only when the corporate big wigs are in town.

If you are like me, you were interested in Equinox then came to the google reviews and left convinced it was not worth any more thought. Despite the negative reviews, I went to Equinox to do a tour. Chris gave me the tour and also talked about my goals- he was very nice and intentional! I was able to try out a couple of classes and a personal training session. My honest perspective:
- It seems like if you are interested in personal training, and willing to pay the high price, many are happy with their experiences here.
- I enjoyed the classes I attended fine. The cycle was underwhelming which surprised me given that Equinox owns Soul Cycle. The group fitness class was great, but packed.
- The general facility does seem to have some issues. The women's locker room was pristine for the most part. However, the smoothie bar in the lobby is abandoned, there were dirty towels in the main stairwell one day, paint splotches on most of the walls, towels and spray bottles left in the steam room, cleaning being done in the middle of the gym while people were trying to exercise etc. To be clear: I believe most of the work is to improve the gym overall, but it wasn't the most ideal.
All-in-all, if you want a gym that offers a variety of classes, is in a great location, has enough space where you can at least find a machine and also provides a solid locker room for getting ready for the day, I would recommend. I have decided I do not want to lock in to a year commitment based on my experience, but if you had different points of focus I can imagine it will be a good fit

Visiting from L.A and can say that the gym is underrated. Ash was absolutely amazing. The cardio room was just finished being remodeled and she pulled a boxing bag out for me to use. And apologized that the cardio room was down for renovations. She went over and beyond to make sure my workout needs were still met. She validated, listened and addressed my concerns. The front of house was Also wonderful to deal with. I will definitely be visiting this location again on my travels. I truly had a wonderful experience.

I've been a member of this gym for about a year and I can't say enough good things about it. It's clean and well maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the members are generally respectful of one another.
There are a few trainers who stand out in my mind as being particularly exceptional: Zach is phenomenal—he's knowledgeable and skilled in his field, but also personable and approachable.
Ana, who teaches Pilates classes here, is also amazing on so many levels. She's patient and great at her job but she's also really fun to work with!

The obvious value to this gym is the quality and variety of equipment and the amenities like towels, shaving products, mouthwash etc. I will say that they made poor choices on quantity of equipment in that there are too many unused cardio machines that should be replaced with the often full free weights.
But the reason I wanted to write this is that if you are considering personal training I would strongly recommend Yehuda for your trainer. Although I have been lifting weights for 15 years he was instantly able to help me refine my form and workout. He also has a really good energy to him absolutely has made my workouts more enjoyable.

I’ve had a similar experience as others on here. I thought I would try the gym out for a month to see if I like it, immediately didn’t like it because so much is broken, especially the locker room amenities, plus the gym is small and not enough equipment.
However after asking to cancel after my first day, I got an email back saying that I needed to provide documentation from a doctor so that I could cancel my membership before a year’s passed. Why did no one tell me that I was committed to a full year? This is insane and everyone I’ve communicated with has been so sneaky and aggressive.

So I thought I’d give this place a shot, regardless of the bad reviews. Told myself I’d give it a month and if I didn’t like it I can just cancel. Not even a month in and I decided the pricey membership was not worth it because they don’t maintain cleanliness especially in the locker room, the gym equipment is subpar and there are not a lot of amenities included enough for it to be worth it. So I talked to the front desk and told them I wanted to cancel my membership, and after asking for my feedback and why I wanted to cancel he told me that it was all canceled and that the manager of the store would eventually reach out to me. Did not reach out to me then I see another charge on my card for the next month, I call the store and they said my membership was not canceled and that I’m in an apparently obligatory period of 1 year for the membership. Why wasn’t I told this? Now I’m stuck paying for a gym I thought I could just try out. Don’t waste your time getting a membership here, super shady on how they treated me.
UPDATE: I feel an obligation to respond to their response below. I reached out to the email they had provided and yet no one has followed up. I also kept asking Equinox employees at the gym and they kept saying a manager would contact me but never did.

I really enjoyed the club, however the manager Logan must be too overwhelmed to do his job completely. I moved to CA and provided all the paperwork in hand to request my cancellation. The front desk staff took the paperwork and explained this would be handled swiftly and no more charges would be placed on my account since I just paid for a new month. That was not true. I called a few weeks after when a new charge popped up. Logan did not take my call but sent me an email explaining the front desk rep was wrong and AN ADDITIONAL month of April would be my official last charge. Here we are in May and yet again another 200+ charge hits mt card. I called with no answer. I sent an email, and I called the corporate office. As of now I am still waiting for a refund. Great gym- Bad Management.

It’s a fairly nice gym, but the equinox brand is known to make their customers feel special and to be on top of details. The equipment is not cleaned every day or even every week, there is regularly not stocked toilet paper in the bathroom, the toilet liners are always empty, and the staff is just normal but when I was 18 I had to give twice the level of customer service at a freakin jamba juice for what I’m sure is half the pay.
The staff often reaches out to me to see what I think of my experience but even after saying these things to them they do nothing and it’s clear they are just trying to find ways to upsell me. Which is fine, but be on top of the basics that I pay over $200 a month for before you try to sell me more.
I also see many trainers that are overweight which I think is weird if that’s your job. Customer service just overall is severely lacking when considering how much you’re spending and what the brand is known for. Unless the gym is very convenient for you, go to Lifetime instead.

My two star rating is for the gross and poorly maintained locker rooms. The Austin location’s men’s locker room, showers, amenities, and steam room have consistently been gross as recently as Nov 13, 2021. Examples:
- Multiple shower drains clogged up & flooding
- some showers completely missing soap dispensers. Those with dispensers are covered in gunk
- showers seemingly hadn’t been cleaned all day
- many showers closed off more than an hour before closing
- deodorant and hairspray bottles were covered in thick gunk
- steam room and shower areas had towels laying around on the floor
- insides of lockers haven’t been cleaned (ever?)
- steam room has that thick grime coating that only comes from lack of cleaning
Equinox, this location needs a lot of attention. A growing city like Austin is probably worth your time to focus on before you destroy decades of positive brand building.
Preemptive reply to the manager saying they care asking me to email with more information: there is no more information. Your locker rooms are gross, maintenance oversight is lacking, and you’d be well served to fix it.
