This so call luxury Gym is the worst 245 dollars i have spent on my life. Old equipment and very low energy environment. I tried to use the steam room and i walked away one second later 2 guys naked doing jumping jacks inside. Definitely not worth your money. Fitness connection is $25 per month and way better equipment and definitely the vibe is much better. Is not about the money is about the environment and quality of service.

Cool facility, I had the chance to take a tour and Expirience this place with Denise. I also signed up for a work out class which I enjoyed! I did leave after my first visit and I had decided I wanted to start a membership, I had asked front desk to have membership services reach out to me, and I never received any contact. Their loss, I take rejection as protection these days.

Came here on a guest pass for one of my friends this past Monday and attended the “sculpted yoga”. Worst class ever. I’m assuming the instructor, Patrick Masey(?) is new to the yoga industry and doesn’t know what he is doing. I wouldn’t recommend taking one of his classes. As a fellow yoga instructor, the flows are very lazy with no effort. It’s almost as if he copied a flow from someone. I would never take a class from Patrick Masey ever again no matter what studio it is.

I kid you not, on Friday night there was an obnoxious guy working out with his shirt off and doing cartwheels in the middle of the gym…at an Equinox. Members were looking for the staff to tell that was supposed to be on floor, but they couldn’t be found and must have gone home early. It was bizarre and completely inappropriate for a so called luxury gym at 200 dollars a month.

I’m not sure if it’s because of the vibe of the place but everyone here except for the people who do the food and clothes are very rude. No one greets or tries to help you solve small problems unless it involves them receiving money. The men who workout here have no manners, consideration or regard for other people and space, one guy rudely cut in line in front of me. Maybe it’s the location but, not good for someone considering a new quality gym.

This location may not become your favorite gym experience. I’m not expecting every gym or club in the same cost tier to be identical, but from a purely training focused perspective, this one falls short in a few ways that could be easily addressed under a great management.
From a marketing standpoint, the machines aren’t noticeably higher in quality than those at other commercial gyms that cost a fraction of the price. Some appear outdated or not well-maintained. Much of the equipment is placed awkwardly, and the lack of mirrors in the training areas makes it inconvenient. especially when learning new movements or skills & wanting to check your form. The mirrors that do exist aren’t very helpful due to poor placement and spacing. Only 2,3 people can somewhat comfortably train in that area.
Even during the week, the equipment-to-member ratio can feel off. However I genuinely dread going on weekends because of how overcrowded it gets. The wait time and navigating thru a fixed workout plan is just not possible. It raises the question of whether the number of memberships sold aligns with the space and equipment available.
Class options are more limited than expected, and the in app scheduling system is inflexible. You can’t sign up for a class the same day, even if there’s space and there may be a class hours away. This removes any flexibility or spontaneity in planning your day & workouts especially when the training area is packed and you might want to pivot and join a class instead.
I also don’t appreciate being interrupted mid-workout by trainers trying to pitch services. It feels disrespectful to my time, space, and focus.
That said, I do still like this gym. Every staff member I’ve interacted with has been great and professional, the space is clean, and the free parking is a major plus given the location.
I’d suggest reevaluating how the machines are arranged and repositioning them to create better flow and a more dynamic use of the space. Adding more mirrors in key training areas would be a valuable improvement. It may also be necessary to reassess how many memberships are being sold in relation to the club’s actual capacity. A significant portion of the floor is taken up by cardio machines, many of which often sit unused. Increasing the availability of weight and strength equipment would improve the training experience, reduce wait times, and enhance the overall functionality of the gym. Thank you

This was the worst experience for me. Hosts have a shirt that says “greet”, the last thing the two ladies at the front desk did was greet. Awful experience with the worst ever customer service in Houston. I would never come back to this gym and would never recommend even an enemy to go to this gym. I live in FL and was trying to pay for a day pass (every gym in the world has this service), instead I was treated with no respect, was thrown out of the building and felt very uncomfortable. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.

I was totally disgusted with the experience I had with Equinox today. After coming back from California choosing this location as my selective gym. To be pulled in the office by the GM Lynn and Assistant GM after noticing my items that I left overnight in my locker was removed and put into plastic bags and to be told my things can’t be left overnight unless renting a locker space. Then I was spoken to very rudely by GM after being accused that I interrupted the instructor class while doing intro yoga, which was never mention to me by instructor then I was informed I’ve had issues with multiple instructors when Ive only taken one class since I returned from California and the second class I cancelled because the instructor was so nasty with me while I entering into the way before it even began and just reading the reviews I see there members was have had the same encounters. In top of the fact how rudely I’ve been treated when I call in by Heather and other front counter employees and just the initial greeting to me upon my arriving or departure has been very dry or not even at all sometimes and to have members to be treated in this manner is unethical and dishonorable. So I have no intention to spend the money I spend with any establishment that does not value and honor my business. I just think this location need to assigned new people in position from the higher ups to lower that will turn around the experience that prior and current members share alike which are not great experiences and can damage the reputation that of what’s to be know as a prominent gym to workout at.

The first time I called in the afternoon and I was told that the front desk person didn’t know anything and all of the membership advisors were in a meeting, so to call back in an hour. OK. I called back in an hour, and no one answered. I called back another day at eight in the morning and I was told that the membership advisors don’t get in until 10 AM that day and to call back again. First of all, that’s extremely late. Second of all, I didn’t. I joined Lifetime instead, where there are always knowledgeable people available to answer my questions. first impressions matter, and you guys missed the mark this time.

It's no wonder in the Wall Street Journal, Equinox is CEO is unable to meet a shareholder expectation. I have been to this location. the store of yoga pant brand that they have decided to partner with the product is extremely inferior. That particular location itself, I'm willing to guess based on my professional working experience at that rent must be around 15k a month. Plus Platinum AEMX members are allowed incentives to go workout at this gym, which means there already is a business to business relationship between the business establishment with the credit card company. 24 Hour fitness Is the best example. A couple years ago, it was already struggling and there was an article about it on the Wall Street Journal about how 24 hour fitness was struggling and to survive. Notice how it doesn't exist anymore.

My husband has membership benefits through AMEX and brought our 17-year old son to try out the gym. My husband was told that he could sign up for a trial membership for our minor son on a month to month basis as part of his AMEX membership and could cancel at any time. Now we are trying to cancel and the club is refusing and giving us a very hard time. Equinox is saying the contract is with my son and he is locked-in for an entire year even though he is a minor and cannot even legally enter into a contract on his own. This is ridiculous since the person who met with my husband and son, misrepresented the entire agreement! Based on reading other reviews, it looks like Equinox tricks people like us and locks them into signing contracts that are impossible to get out of.

ETA the social media team should check before responding. I appreciate the thanks, but this is a one-star review, not a five-star review.
If you want quality and outstanding personal trainers, this is the place to go.
Otherwise, it's exorbitantly expensive and the equipment and amenities are no better than the downtown Y and most other gyms in the area - most of which offer a lap pool, something this location lacks.
Combine that with the locked in an expensive yearly membership. Todd, you are responsible for despite any changes in your ability to pay, and I recommend going somewhere else.

I visited Equinox at 7:30 PM hoping to explore the facility, but unfortunately, no one was available to show me around. Absolutely unethical billing practices. I moved and notified Equinox in writing several times that I was canceling my membership, yet they continue to overcharge me. On top of that, I’ve experienced wrongful charges in the past, which were a complete hassle to get resolved. Their personal training policies are equally frustrating—I paid for classes only to have them canceled, effectively taking away sessions I had already paid for.
Equinox markets itself as a premium gym, but their disregard for customers and their unethical billing practices tell a very different story.
As a local influencer with ties to ABC 13 and Fox News, I’d be more than happy to bring this issue to their attention for an investigative report. Consumers deserve transparency and accountability, and I hope my experience serves as a warning to others.

Clean gym, good equipment with reasonable crowds at peak hours.
Pricey enough to maintain a more professional clientele. Most members put their earbuds in and keep to themselves.
Pretty good about gym courtesy and members don’t hang out on weight machines playing on their phones.
No roving groups of teenage boys trying to max out on the bench or groups of teenage girls hoarding the squat racks.
All of the fluff of lifetime fitness, without the crowds. This is a gym for individual members, not for families/kids.

This gym has always seemed to be a “rules for thee but not for me” type of establishment. I signed up partly because of a no photography rule on the gym floor. Trainers are always trying to make horrible TikTok’s and instagram videos with Estoban being the worst offender. Nobody wants to be in your wannabe influencer video paying 200 dollars a month to work out.
The best example of the hypocritical nature of the staff is LeeAnn Sloan (who notably gets a million bad reviews here). There is a rule of no talking on the phone on the gym floor. She was literally on the elliptical behind me with the sign in front of her stating no talking on the phone, talking on the phone very loudly. This is just one of a million examples of the poor management and staff that thinks the gym is made for them and not the paying members.

I’m giving 4 stars because the music is too loud in some classes. The sound sets off the noise detector on my Apple Watch. The instructor’s volume is above the music, which has extremely loud bass, and it sounds like a bunch of noise, it is hard to enjoy the music or understand what the instructor is saying.
Other than that, I would give the gym 5 stars, the gym is awesome, great equipment, clean, well maintained, excellent trainers and spa, by far the best classes and instructors of any gym I have been to, and very friendly and polite staff.
I am sure sound level is designated by the corporate office in NY, I am posting here in hopes corporate reads this input. Thank you.

Equinox Houston is a terrific place to work out and receive quality fitness training. My trainer, Ryhean McMorris, is an excellent coach who got me in shape for a four day hike to Yosemite and Sequoia. I’m a writer and educator, who lives a sedimentary lifestyle outside of the gym, but Ryhean is helping me get my physical health in order. We need physical, as well as spiritual and emotional, health. One contributes to the other. I take my work to the gym and sit and work after a good workout. It helps stimulates the brain. The staff lifts my spirits every time I see them, from the front desk to the person in charge of the towels. Can’t rave enough about them!

Equinox River Oaks, the only “luxury gym” where you can pay over $200 a month for the privilege of waiting outside in the cold for 15-20 minutes past opening because the staff didn’t show up!
Update to owner response : what “doesn’t sound right” about it? It’s not an opinion but an objective fact. Sunday, April 29, 5-10 members were waiting outside on a cold morning for 15-20 minutes with the doors locked because the staff didn’t show up. Are you trying to debate it didn’t happen? Locking someone into a contract when they are unhappy with their gym experience is not a good business practice. I enjoyed Equinox before Covid. stopped going for about a year. After deciding to join again 8 months ago, I have been disappointed with the lineup of classes and the schedule not aligning with my work schedule. I reached out to their corporate office to cancel my membership, but they have been unyielding. Given that Im only able to average 1-2 workouts a month, it is understandable that I have no intention of rejoining Equinox and will not be recommending it to others. If they would have handle things differently I may have rejoined when my schedule changed.

Objectively not the premiere gym they try to be. Equinox was a fad and now they can’t pay for the upkeep or renovations. Poor hours, lack of amenities, crowded, showers are often dirty and close early, sometimes finding parking is difficult. Don’t waste your money like I have. You’re simply paying for the location. You’d be much better off at lifetime fitness greenway just down the road or even your neighborhood YMCA. What a shame; it used to be so much better.

As a member coming from the Dallas location . This equinox was a downgrade & I decided to end my membership because of it. The staff here that teaches the group fitness classes are very rude. I’ve even witness an instructor call someone out by name during the class because they were doing an exercise incorrectly. She could have went to the person individually instead of calling them out to the entire class. Behavior like that will make you not want to come back. Being that I transferred membership to Houston from Dallas I was expecting an invite for an inquiry for a equifit assessment and never got it even after I asked. The gym is also very small but I was willing to work with it because I loved the group classes at Dallas. It’s unfortunate the same level of professionalism and welcomes isn’t here at the Houston location.

I signed up for Equinox last month, and honestly, it's been a great move. I was getting tired of the not-so-great conditions at other gyms. The $220 monthly fee for one location might seem a bit high, but considering what you get, I think it's worth it.
The dressing rooms are seriously impressive. Everything is neat and organized, making it super convenient, especially if you're coming straight from work. No more searching for things—I appreciate that. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the switch to Equinox.
Pros:
The place is swanky, and the equipment is top-notch.
It's always clean, and the staff is friendly and on point.
Cons:
The steam rooms, though. Ugh. They seem to be on their own schedule - out of service more than I'd like.

I'm providing a 5-star review with the hope that constructive feedback can be considered. It appears there are areas that need improvement, particularly in the professionalism and friendliness of the front-facing staff. Comprehensive training for managers and staff is crucial, and the possibility of recruiting a new team might be worth exploring. Drawing from my experience managing a gym successfully, creating a customer-friendly environment is achievable. Addressing these issues is essential, as the current negative reviews may be impacting the gym's reputation and potential for attracting quality clientele. I believe improvements are possible, and I encourage the gym to take action.

Overcrowded, in particular due to having a trainer-focused environment. If you come from 7-9am, most of the lighter dumbbells might be missing, and you’ll spend 10 minutes waiting for an open bench because of trainers reserving unused benches with towels or weights for clients to come back to. I’ve been kicked off a machine twice because the trainer needed it. The response from the training staff is they don’t really feel this is a problem, and seem more concerned that I am raising the issue. Still like the location and availability of locker space, if only they would share the weight room a little more so people can workout efficiently instead of always working around the personal trainers.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
They lure you in with a $0 initiation fee, but they don’t give you ANY information in regards to billing schedule and they fail to inform you that you’re stuck with them for 12 months. When you try to cancel, you won’t be able to (which is crazy because what’s the point of even having a cancellation option?) unless you either move 25+ miles away or provide a doctors note (after being forced to stay with them for 30 days). When asked for a corporate number, the GM basically stated that it wouldn’t help anyway- “They’re just going to route you back to me.” So you can’t even get any type of resolution. The customer service was poor and this gym is DEFINITELY not worth the price for the amenities you do get, you’re basically paying for the “atmosphere.”

Club is nice but small. Classes are good. For the price i think it closes really early on weekends. They don't let you use the mats which are inside the class room but they don't tell you that in advance. Please check before signing an agreement. The salesperson will rush through signatures and not let you know that it is a 12 month contract. They basically lie by omission and then will not let you out of the contract. Lifetime Fitness is so much better.

I've been a proud member of Equinox for over a decade and have had the pleasure of using their facilities worldwide, from London to Miami. Each time I've traveled, I've been allowed to use the facilities without additional fees, making my experience seamless.
However, during my recent visit to the Houston branch, I was disappointed with the service. I was informed that there would be a $45 fee to use the facility, just to change. While I respect an establishment's policy, it's disheartening to see such inconsistencies across branches.
Moreover, my interaction with a staff member at the front desk was far from pleasant. As loyal customers, we expect courteous and professional treatment, even when there are policy disagreements. I hope the management will take this feedback into consideration and ensure consistent policies and staff training across all locations.

Joined 7 months ago after visiting a couple Equinox gyms in Los Angeles. This one does not compare in terms of amenities and ambiance. It’s rarely super crowded & most trainers are very friendly. I like the fact that it’s usually empty when I come in (9am - noon) Other than that, the sauna rarely works. There is no smoothie bar. There is no pool, and rarely enough space to lounge or work on my laptop. I have been kicked out of the aerobics room twice without the slightest courtesy or politeness (so the trainers could set up a class that started 15-20 minutes later. Rather than simply invite me to the class. I was just asked to leave in a condescending & awkward way. Definitely could have been a different conversation) My first week there , a trainer threatened to cancel my membership for taking a selfie in the locker room that was completely empty, until she walked in. I would never take a selfie with a person in the background so that intensity was shocking considering I’m a paying customer who considers myself very respectful. After that single interaction, she’s never said hello, or anything else that was hospitable or pleasant. It’s really just a good place get your workout in, nothing more.

The gym is good for what you pay for but don't sleep on the spa. Got a massage by Dane for 80 minutes today. In a 15 minute complimentary session during a fall member event, he completely cured my months of muscle tightness in my neck that had not improved with multiple sessions of chiro, cupping, and dry needling elsewhere. I was lucky enough to get a spot with him again. He has superior knowledge of muscular anatomy, trigger and insertion points, and fascial planes. Best deep tissue massage I've ever had from a technical perspective with lots of focus at high activity joints. Truly a master of his craft, I highly recommend.

Club is nice but small. The steam room doesn't work. Please check before signing an agreement. The salesperson will rush through signatures and not let you know that it is a 12 month contract. They basically lie by omission and then will not let you out of the contract. Be careful. Try Lifetime Fitness

I had the WORST most humiliating experience in my life with the manager Lee Ann Sloan while discussing my membership cancellation. She VIOLATED the terms of contract by not allowing me to cancel despite relocating. She did not even care to invite me to a private office to speak instead all of this happened at the entrance filled with people. This gym and the rude manager Lee Ann will do everything in their power to lock you in. They lie to you during the tour and convince you canceling will be easy but it is not. DO NOT JOIN! It’s a low quality gym too! Small and no pool, the steam room is always broken and there is MOLD in the showers

Equinox has good equipment, but it's very busy most of the times. It is also an absolute nightmare if you need to cancel your membership.
Some teachers were incredible (e.g.: Callie from the Precision Run class), but others were kind of rude multiple times, if you were just a few minutes late for the class or if you didn't know how much weight to lift.
I personally do not recommend and will not be renewing my membership.

For what you get, Lifetime is a much better option in Houston. The money they are asking for the club offering and one location? Pass quickly. If it was that good they wouldn’t need to lock you up with a year contract. Borderline scam in Houston. Better options in the city. Oh and they are not minority friendly especially at the corporate level. They’re on the decline. Writing is on the wall for this company.

After canceling my Equinox membership in response to consistently terrible experiences in San Francisco, I find this location to be no different. On the whole the members are friendlier than SF, which is consistent with the different cities. But you have so many entitled people claiming several pieces of equipment.
Today a guy walked directly on my hoodie without even acknowledging me or that he did it. Equinox consistently has the worst gym culture in America, I’m certain of that.

Just joined and the signup process went smoothly. You've heard the beef -- too small and no pool -- and frankly I would've stayed at LifeTime Greenway but for the trainer bringing his boombox onto the weight floor, 85 decibels, borderline hearing loss. Both LifeTime and Equinox are well maintained, but I would give Equinox a nod for being slightly less crowded, ironic since LifeTime is much larger. Equinox is older but you wouldn't know. Even though it's small you can do a serviceable workout at Eq. Other differences are LifeTime's parking is dedicated and it opens at 4am. I tried Equinox's "eucalyptus" steam room to see if it would help my sinuses and all I smelled was the typical gamey steam room smell, but it was nice and hot. The Kiehl's shampoo/conditioner they provide made my hair feel great. Maybe someday Equinox will build a facility like LifeTime Greenway so I won't have to belong to two gyms just to swim. If you have trouble finding Equinox, it's right near Harry Winston, Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Christian Dior, lol.

I was a member here for about 2 years. I stopped coming for about a year as I joined 2 other gyms with friends. I ended up rejoining recently because I see how great the facility really is. If you live nearby or you enjoy the truly top notch classes they offer, it is 100% worth the monthly fee. These classes include yoga, HIIT training, strength training, stretching, cycling, barre, dance, and more. All of the group fitness instructors always take time to introduce themselves and get to know you so you feel like you’re a part of a community that pushes you to come and get your money’s worth.
There is also a spa that is amazing. I have gotten a couple hydrafacials with Candi and I have recommended family and friends to go because she is so great!
The one bad experience I’ve had was with a personal training manager, so I stay away from personal training.
The gym and locker room is always clean and even when it’s at its most busy, it does not get too crowded. The locker rooms are equipped with a steam room and plenty Kiehl’s products like shampoo, conditioner, face moisturizer, body lotion to make sure you leave feeling clean and hydrated.

Visiting Houston and decided to check out the only Equinox. The club is really nice. Plenty of room and equipment and didn't feel crowded at all, even around 5pm. My favorite part was the view from the rowing machines. I dinged one star because this is the first Equinox I've been to where they don't provide bags for your sweaty workout clothes. Otherwise great experience!

Edit: client services reached out and apologized, but no recourse, refund, or credit was provided. I asked for a refund or credit to rejoin when I move back to NYC and was told I would get an email back after taking with a manager, which did not happen. I followed up, and my email was ignored. I expected better.
-
I could not be more disappointed in customer service regarding their lack of covid precautions. I came to them saying I felt unsafe because of the actions of Equinox staff and hoped to put my membership on hold but was instead hassled and met with excuses.
I had been a member in nyc where I loved my experience, but moved out of state and eventually landed in Houston. I joined just before the variant had taken hold, and felt comfortable at first even though there was no requirement for vaccination or masks (state law, not Equinox’s rules). However as the variants started to get worse, it seemed precautions were loosened. I was in a yoga class, in a closed room full of people without masks, where the instructor told us to breath in deep and exhale with our mouths wide open. This happened at the *peak* of the variant. I could not have gotten out of the gym quick enough and did not return after.
I felt things would pass and I’d just get back into the gym after the holiday so I didn’t say anything even though I was appalled. Things didn’t get much better so I asked the gym if I could put my membership on hold until the end of summer, when I return from my cottage. I also asked for a refund for the past month I didn’t attend as it was the actions of Equinox employees that made me uncomfortable visiting.
I was first given weak excuses as to their cleaning practices, basically told I had no reason to fear covid at the gym because they disinfected things - not at all addressing the concern I came to them with. Frankly this gym is not nearly as clean as they state but that is beside the point as that’s not how covid is spread, but they are not living up to their ‘covid clean’ regardless.
I was then hassled, and felt mocked for my wanting to be safe in light of the covid situation. I was told I cannot cancel, I was ‘offered’ as if it was a huge favor to put the membership on hold for three months, at my expense. Knowing I’d be at my cottage by then, I asked if I could simply cancel and rejoin without a fee this fall as I had already payed the joining fee twice (the first being NYC). It felt like the person I was talking to expected me to be grateful at the privilege of getting to pay to put my membership on hold just long enough for me to leave the state and was annoyed I didn’t say thank you.
I’m not sure if the person I talked to was just having a bad day or what, but I was shocked by the passive aggression that came in my bringing this up. I was given every reason why my feeling unsafe was wrong and that I had no reason to leave the gym. At no point was my concern over the actions of the yoga instructor even mentioned.
I was told I needed a doctors note, or proof that I had moved more than 25miles from the club in order to cancel the membership. I ended up needing to send the mortgage statement for my cottage to prove I moved and only then, after more passive aggressive tone and paying for another month, that my membership would be terminated.
I ended up here a very short while. I attended maybe 10 yoga classes, the 10 most expensive yoga classes of my life. But really it’s not the stupid sum of money spent on a few yoga classes that upsets me, it was how I was treated when I came to the club with a concern. I know asking to cancel and come back without another joining fee was a lot to ask, though it shouldn’t have been, but the response I got made me loose so much respect for this ‘health club’.
If Equinox contacts me to make this right I’ll update this review. Frankly I had thought I’d be a member at Equinox for a very long time to come, and as I just found I need to move back to NYC maybe I will consider returning up there but I need the company to reach out to me directly and correct this first.

Equinox has amazing group fitness instructors that will push you to your max, but still tend to making sure each person feels welcome and accomplished. I have my favorite instructors, but I don’t think you can go wrong with any Equinox class! I was a member at Equinox River Oaks for 1 year during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. I was very pleased with my experience. I used Equinox because it was less crowded and seemed "cleaner" than big box gyms or smaller, boutique fitness studios, and it observed social distancing prior to December 2020. Lifetime and the Preserve are comparables, but the Preserve seemed kinda small and Lifetime is next to that mega-church. From January to March 2021, I was probably going to their classes 5x/week, and I was pleased with the quality of their classes. I had a very easy cancellation process, with good communication from their managers, since I'm moving somewhere without an Equinox studio. I'll continue to use Equinox+.

I have been a member of this place for four years already and all I have is positive things to say. The front desk staff is very nice. I enjoy talking to them. I hear quite a few negative reviews about them. But I always had a good experience. I did not have a good experience with three of their trainers. So I decided to train outside of the club. But overall this place is the best. I have been a general manager at a restaurant for many years and I can tell you that Rebecca (the general manager) is one of the best managers I have ever met. She is amazing. I have never met her personally. But she is great. She will take care of you. I also hear negative reviews about issues regarding to money. Rebecca has always taken care of me. Even if it was a money issue, she would fix it right away. I wish the club would raise the monthly premium to over $ 200 a month. That way the club would not have to deal with so much negativity.

This gym should be a 5 Star gym. I’ll gladly raise my stars if these concerns, which have been previously raised to the gym on numerous occasions are addressed:
1) the gym is lacking overall equipment. It literally is about only 65% of the equipment you’ll find at any other equinox club.
2) lockerooms: the bathroom/ stall area ventilates to the locker area. Nobody wants to smell other people’s waste while simply changing clothes after a shower. The gym has doors that close to the bathroom area that could stop this problem, but they remain propped open. Really? Close the doors, folks!
3) when I signed up, I was assured services would always be up and minimal downtime. Was even told if something can’t be fixed in 24 hours, they simply replace the broken item. The men’s steam room has been down for over a week with no status or disposition given to the members.
4) social events: the gym often has promos going on. The staff sets these marketing/ promo events up at the top of the stairs when you enter the club. You have to walk through the promo/marketing event just to enter the gym. If you go to the locker room first, you’ll have to walk back through this circus again just to start your workout. I don’t know about the rest of the community, but I’m paying a premium to workout here.... I’d like some peace and zen. Move your marketing / promo show off to a corner or off to the side. You shouldn’t force your clients to be subjected to forced convo / further sales pitches or simply having to play human dodgeball to avoid staff / other gym members who have been stopped by the gym to join in on the promo/ marketing.
5) what I love:
The instructors are awesome.
The showers are nice/ soap offerings are nice.
Generally the space is spread out enough to where I’m not having to workout ontop of someone.

I guess I should have looked at the reviews prior to signing the contract. I had been thinking of joining even prior to the gym finalizing construction, but opted to stay at my boutique gym, because I loved the atmosphere even though I paid more.
A year an half later approximately I decided to try something different and asked Equinox if they offered any trial period, which the sales woman said no free trial but after you join you have 1 week to cancel and then the manager said their is no grace period what in the world! So less than a month into going there I was just not happy with my training options, crappy front desk people and well don’t get me started with some of the individuals that go there!!!! So I wanted out and to cancel membership within less than a month of joining.
Long story short you have to jump through hoops to leave this place and currently still paying for this membership and I am not a happy camper! I finally did cancel but still waiting the 30 days.
Funny thing is they had the audacity to send me a survey well I sure told them what I thought! Manager called me that same day offering no help what so ever!!!
Word to the wise if they are not willing to give you a trial period it’s for a reason WALK AWAY PEOPLE!!!

Love this gym. I've been a member since they opened in December 2015. This gym in particular fills a niche with their classes that no other gym in Houston provides. For one price you have access to hot yoga, cycling, regular studio cardio/strength training classes, pilates, barre... everything you can think of! Ordinarily a yoga or barre membership is going to cost $100 plus a month and you only have access to that one particular type of class. Here you pay a little more but you have access to a wide variety of classes and access to a regular gym. The instructors are amazing. Andi, DK, Macy, Jessica, and Chad are all amazing....the list goes on and on. The locker room is beautiful and always kept clean. I come out smelling like a grapefruit after showering with the lovely body wash. I love the steam room. You get what you pay for here. Additionally, the GM, Rebecca, is delightful to interact with. She was very helpful when I had to freeze my membership due to an injury and always makes herself available to members. Highly recommend.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to read through the one-star reviews to figure out that those reviewers seem to gripe about everyone and everything. But I digress. Equinox River Oaks is a great gym. It's on the smaller side, which I prefer as compared to huge multi-level gyms where you rarely see the same employees there on any given day. I go 4-5 days/week. The classes at EQX are exceptional; they have everything from yoga to jump rope (so hard!) to hip hop dance to kickboxing to spin to really hard HIIT classes that nearly make me lose my lunch! The manager, Rebecca, is fantastic. I cannot say enough good things about how she helped me with an account issue. Has anyone ever told me to lie about how to cancel my account as stated below? Um, no. Does their contract clearly state you have to give 30 days' notice to cancel? Yes. It's not their fault people don't read before they sign. Are they trying to sell memberships to people? Yes, they're a business. Do I get a benefit from the business? Absolutely. Is anyone giving me anything for this review? No.
The group class instructors are awesome, especially the group fitness manager, Corey, who is seriously awe.some. The facility is very clean -- in fact, there is someone cleaning literally every time I go -- the spa is great and the steam room has worked every time I've used it. There is an occasional machine that is broken, but they're always fixed by the next day. The Equinox staff works hard to help when you have questions, and always give alternate options in group classes which I appreciate. I joined before the facility was even built, so I've been a member for 2+ years and won't be cancelling any time soon.
