Gold's gym used to be the best in the U.S. But in recent years they have just been neglected. I joined last year to test out the new locations in Austin but it was more of the same. Staff that really don't care about helping it's customers and equipment that once damaged are rarely ever repaired or damaged padding that's never replaced. Water fountains are usually warm water or dirty. Then there are inconsiderate members who bully their way to the benches without cleaning after themselves. One day I may return but for now "Fitness Connection" or even "Planet Fitness" will do.

I’ve been going to this specific Gold’s location for a few years now. It’s the BEST Gold’s in Austin Tx, hands down! I’m going to miss this place. The general manager, Zack, and the rest of the staff provide excellent customer service, a friendly atmosphere, professionalism at its best and just an overall unique experience. Thank you guys for all you’ve done for me on my journey. Godspeed with your next chapter✌️

It’s not the newest or the flashiest Gold’s in Austin, but it has a great atmosphere, quite a unique style and is definitely one of my favorites. I will surely miss this location when they shut their doors next month. I initially heard they were relocating but sadly that no longer seems to be the case. Nevertheless, it’s been a fun ride!

Sorry to learn today that the Gym will close doors in a month.
I guess Austin growth is pricing out great businesses. ☹
I have enjoyed working out at Austin North location.
The employees here genuinely care about health and fitness of its members.
They have not lost the Core Values on which Gold’s was built over 50 years ago!
I hope all staff gets placed in other locations – especially George and Hala – they have always been super helpful to members.

This is a good gym especially for the price. It gets very busy from 5-8pm and the layout is a little cramped. It does have all the equipment one needs and a good area for cardio. Some of the equipment is a little dated and might need replacing. I would recommend this gym especially for the price.

I have been coming here for years. So, you might wonder why two stars for a gym that I go to regularly? The only thing this Jim has going for it is convenience. It's close to my house. Whatever, whenever I can I go to any other gold's gym. The condition of this gym is pretty sad. Dumbbells are missing their rubber coating with the plates sticking through. Benches are missing knob so you can't adjust them. Air conditioning is always hit or miss, and it's working in one part and not working in another and then it'll just flip. Often there is no paper towels in the dispensers. Now the parking is a mess with the construction next door. I think the only reason they haven't done anything to improve this location is because it's going to be torn down eventually. However, I'm surprised gold so let's things get this bad.

Pros: Gym has all the equipment I look for in a gym. Usually don't have to wait long for a station.
Cons: Parking has been horrible since the construction started. There is a one way lane entrance/exit that nobody follows. If you can't find parking in the small lot you have to go the wrong way to get to another lot.
The music is too freaking LOUD! When everyone is wearing headphones the answer is not to play music louder. Do your customers a favor and turn the music down.

Very good classic gym. Very well preserved. They could give a little update on some areas, machines and weights, but they already fine. Just a little details that could be better. For example all the leg extension machines are bent. The A/C in some areas are not that strong. Other than that the gym is really good.

I had some issues earlier this year, i had to leave bad reviews on here and Facebook to get someone to finally call me back after several weeks. Mitch fixed my issue but I still didn’t want to be a part of a gym who’s communication is so poor with its customers. So I called and spoke to another employee who told me stated no managers were gonna be in for a while so I told him I wanted my membership cancelled because I was going to find a different gymthat had quality managers and employees. The employee never once told me I had to come in to cancel anything (remember this for later) he said it would be processed and my membership would no longer be active. So months pass by with no email or phone call then all of a sudden my card was charged for $203 from the one and only, ABC financial. So when I called they said my membership still showed active and they couldn’t do anything about the charges. This was TWO WEEKS AGO now and I’ve called both Bethany AND Mitch numerous times, left messages, I’ve also been in contact with Mitch on email and he has ignored me after telling him ABC financial needed statement showing I cancelled when I did. I’ve been totally ignored. So the one employee I did talk to at the Aiken location said she would process my cancellation online (remember they can’t do that right 🤔) funny how things work when they have been called out on their scams. Bethany (north Augusta manager) is extremely unprofessional by not calling customers back about their issues and I’ll just leave the email screenshots of my multiple attempts at communication about this issues.

Best gym I have been to. The management and community both want you to succeed and are always open to help suggest things for you. It's no wonder the community at this gym is so lively, because the gym staff treat everyone like family and try to keep up to date with what's going on.
I only had 2 problems over the course of my 14 months here and they were swiftly dealt with by the staff which was much appreciated by me and many others. Thanks again for making this place so great!

This location is falling apart, and management is unwilling to fix many issues because apparently this location is set to be demolished by end of 2022. Well, in the meantime, lots of us are paying members, and another year or more with the current conditions is a long time. I'd just go to another location, but this one is very conveniently located, and there is a particular class/instructor at this one that I specifically enjoy going to every week, so that's the main reason I reluctantly continue putting up with the nonsense. I will say, the front desk staff are always very friendly, welcoming, and helpful.

Hit or miss. Sometimes they have very rude front desk staff. Sometimes manager is rude/unnecessary himself, sometimes he's neutral or in good mood. Sometimes the mens bathroom is filthy...they used to clean it often, but lately not so much. This place has seen better days, service wise for sure.

This Gym just stole money out of my account without authorization. It's stated that I was late paying my bill, but the truth is I tried to pay my bill multiple times and it was returned to my account by gold's gym. I spoke with a representative and was told that I cannot get my money back. Although I explained I have proof and requested to speak to a supervisor, the rep refused to let me speak to her supervisor. I am very angry and would like to cancel then take my business elsewhere. I want my money back and an immediate cancelation.

I really like this location.
First of all, it's pretty big. They have room after room after room. It's like a labyrinth🙂
Seriously though - it has an entire room just for bench press.
This really helps cut down on the feeling of being in a sea of people and it means that whatever you need is usually available.
Next, the people that work there are great. I highly recommend Coach Randall if you're looking to do some personal training. He's friendly, super encouraging, and knows his stuff.
Last but not least, they have a HUGE heavy bag. I'm a lifetime martial artist, so I love that they let me kick the thing too.
To sum it up -- they have a punching bag, the staff is great & there's plenty of equipment, so you rarely have to wait (and you get your cardio in, just going from room to room😜). For me, those are the makings of a great Gold's Gym!

Hands down the worst customer service I've ever received at a gym. The staff members messed up my contract and I guess never loaded me into the system. And after going to the gym for 4 or 5 months. they started harassing me everyday like I was robbing them when they knew exactly what was going on. The general manager of this place must need a couple of refresher courses in customer service and how to write a proper email. So he could be able to fulfill his job duties and be able to train his employees correctly. Also the short guy with a beard i dont know his name definitely needs some customer service training!!!! The guy thought he was a bouncer on dirty 6th when he was talking to us. The guy seemed like he was ready to fight, he might need to lay off the testosterone little. Or maybe you need pay this little man a little more so he can afford his PCT and his estrogen won't be so high.

Cancellation is a horrific process. Do not attend if you intend on cancelling. When I signed up, I was assured that I could attend and pay for just one month, and that I only needed to send in a cancellation "notice." Of course I do this, and submit my notice immediately after signing up through Gold's Membership support portal. The equipment and service is mediocre, offering a standard range of machines, cardio equipment, and free weights. Half of all these are completely unavailable because of the (as of writing) current world issue, but that isn't really their fault. What is more concerning is that when I looked at my bank account the next month, after the billing cycle, I was charged for ANOTHER MONTH. Not to mention a decline fee because I didn't have enough in my account the day before. So I call to discuss this and try to get a refund. After a ton of transfers, I am told I need to come IN PERSON to sign a PIECE OF PAPER to declare my cancellation. I was not informed of this at all. It was not in any easy reading, and if it was anywhere, maybe in fine print, no sensible person would have been aware. I was, again, last month told to simply send a notice of cancellation. So I try again and again to get a refund, but they insist that I need to sign the paper and that I cannot get a refund. Of course, their support portal where I sent my notice does not respond or give any receipt of any kind so I don't have evidence of my notice being sent, and they continue to tell me that I cannot get a refund without proof of said notice. So eventually I give up and sign the paper, and leave. They extorted me out of my money and because of the way their system is set up, there is no way to procure evidence of foul play. Short of taking a video of your support ticket submission on your computer screen. You better be ready to use these guys for life, because they will not let you go. Also, pay with a pre-paid card, just in case. That worked well for my father.

Good quality gym and equipment. Efforts have definitely been made by the staff to keep the locker room and areas cleaner and smelling better. It's a gym, it's going to stink at times but they do a good job. The staff has always been courteous and helpful when needed. Much of the gym has dated equipment but it still works the muscles as it's supposed to. The free weight area is bigger than most gyms with plenty of benches and weights. Location can be tough to get in and out of during rush hour but it's not impossible. The crowd is very mixed in fitness level and ages. A good range with no shaming that I've seen. Work out and leave, not a crazy amount of socializing taking up an area.

Be aware of your surroundings when parking at this Gold's Gym. There is a rash of break into cars. A few weeks ago my passenger window was broken and items were taken from my car.
After discussing the issue with several people and the gym staff, this is a common occurrence at this gym and it has been going on for years. You would think they would invest a few hundred dollars into cameras.
One day while working out a staff member repeatedly reprimanded gym goers “NO personal training is permitted unless the trainer was employed by Gold’s Gym”. This was announced every 15 to 20 minutes over the span of two hours. It was very distracting and negative. Gold’s is concerned about their own financial well being, but certainly not that of their clients. There are no signs in the gym letting you know of the break ins. Yes, there are signs posted on the outside of the building stating take all your personally belonging out of your car.
I joined Gold in April of this year. It only took the thieves a few months to break into my car. My opinion of the gym inside is it’s a bit outdated and over crowded but it was nice to get out of traffic on my way home. The women’s restroom needs some TLC. This gym definitely needs some upgrades. Most of the clients that go to this gym are considerate and great.

The first two scans I had (at a different location), were not positive experiences, so naturally, I was apprehensive about my third one. Zachary Farmer, was the team member that assisted me and, to my relief, it was a positive experience. Zach was both professional and welcoming the whole time. He answered any questions that I asked and was sincere with his answers, suggesting ways to improve/change about my routine. In addition, he seems to be a great role model of what a team leader is supposed to be and what a new member of the gym would want. Zach is an essential piece, not only to this location, but to Gold's Gym as a whole.

Zachary Farmer = 5 star personal trainer. Just standing next to him makes you bigger. Not even kidding.

Love this gym! Best staff I’m town! Always clean and never too crowded to get in any workout I’m wanting that day.

Beware of shady business practices. They will continue to draft your account after your contract has expired. They tell you that your account has become a month to month contract. To cancel the contract you must come into the gym and sign a cancellation and you must give them 30 days notice. It's shady and unethical and I would never use this facility especially with all the competition in this area. Beware of Rick. He acts like he cares but he doesn't.

Treadmills slip and equipment aging. Staff is around but not engaging. Good for those into true weightlifting but not so much for cardio fitness. Men's restroom and locker area dirty and wet. Will keep attending but choose other locations when possible.

Is it me or did this gym go south on friendliness ? Used to be the most friendly gym in Austin. From the front desk to the trainers these people suck. The gym is filled with morons who can't even wipe machines, or pick up their own weights. They drop stuff in here like they own the gym. Anyways, my wife signed up with a trainer, Alyssa, not a good choice if you're trying to get a "girl" trainer. Very rude. We signed up but will go to another Gold's where we fit in. This is def. not the place!!!

[2nd week with Gold's; 1st time at this location]
--What could be nastier than the Anderson location??? The 183 Research (Burnet) location [see pics]
-WHY are the showers smaller than LA Fitness? Isn't Gold's supposed to be superior?
-WHY is the shower soap FOAM and has mildew and grime all over each dispenser?
-WHY is the floor by the urinals NEVER clean?
People still slam weights but it seems as if they actually put weights back- which is a good thing.
[Florida & Texasss]- Planet Fitness to YouFit to LA Fitness and now Gold's...............
The "higher" I go up, the nastier the gyms get.
Take some of the profits from selling your expensive Gold's gear and clean your damn bathrooms.
You could even copy LA and hire a guy to bleach the showers down with a mop--- SIMPLE!

It was hard for me to give this place a bad rating because I like it, but the staff is argumentative and overall unprofessional. This is definitely not the cleanest gym either. All the equipment is here and you can avoid the staff 90% of the time, until you can't.

If you ever have a $20 late fee then expect Erica and Rick to drag it out over weeks and weeks. They like for you to forget they forgot. Listen this place is really run down. Regulars come and they go.... and I can see why. When you make a complaint they don't take you seriously. It's better to talk to a wall. Rick should be fired. He does nothing but give you an attitude. Put on some workout clothes and lose that belly man.

I'm in the process of trying to quit this Gold's because I'm moving. I quit my 1 year contract 2 months ago (they roped me into another month - via me coming in a couple days late past the 12 months - which I paid last month) and now I was just charged again for no reason. Their front desk people are extremely rude on the phone, very uncaring. I called yesterday and they said they'd have to contact their customer care and would get back to me... they never did. I called again this morning, and the man at the front desk basically laughed and said I needed to have kept my "cancelling receipt" that they printed out for me, and he said "well that's the reason why we print them out for you" - acting like they don't have a record... Very shady. Very rude. Both associates I've talked to in the past couple days seem to point the blame on me for being charged again, which makes absolutely no sense. I've legally been out of the contract for over 2 months now. I was warned by a friend that this same location happened to make this same "mistake" of charging you again after leaving. I've been a member at other Gold's in the past that were great, but after this experience, I don't plan on ever joining one again. I do not recommend this location.

The manager let's people keep lockers for months at a time even though you bring it to his attention. The lockers are filthy and never wiped out. People keep food on there as well. The exercise class floors are never clean.

That's my gym. I'll give it a 4 for the staff, 3 for cleanliness and 2 for the equipment. Most of the equipment is old and you have to clean them most of the time before using. Finding parking in the evenings on weekdays is hard. You might have better luck driving to the other side of the complex instead of waiting on a spot close to here. They have good scheduled cardio class sessions that you need to sign up for. They have a body scanner as well. I haven't checked the other Golds gyms in the area but definitely this one won't be the best but it is adequate.
